Bogie's Place is a hidden gem for anyone craving a top-notch steak dinner. The restaurant is cozy and intimate with just a handful of tables, which gives the whole experience a personal feel. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was kind, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. When the wine I had my eye on was unavailable, he quickly found an alternative from the bar next door. What really stood out was how thoughtfully he walked us through exactly how we'd like our steaks cooked. Food-wise, the mac & cheese was absolutely phenomenal. The Caesar salad great as well. The steak was perfect and cooked exactly to my liking. I rarely go out for steak due to the risk of it not coming out right, but it was cooked to perfection thanks to the care they put in upfront. Well well well, do the Boston folks want to keep this place top secret? We took an uber from our hotel to bogies and saw no signs of the restaurant even being there. We asked a couple locals and they had no idea what we were talking about - then ahh-ha! We found the secret entry. We couldn't believe how small it was and how quiet it was in there so we were a little nervous. Our waiter was fantastic he gave us the back story and provided great service. THE FOOD. Phenomenal! My fiancé took me to bogey's for my birthday, and it was absolutely amazing! First of all, I have walked past the wig shop dozens of times over the years and always wanted to go in and check it out. Bogeys is essentially a speakeasy type steakhouse, and it has no main entrance, it is accessed through the wig shop. Another access point to Bogey's is at Curley's next-door. Bogeys is situated between the wig shop and curl. It's a small intimate room, dark, lighting, velvet walls. Our server was fantastic, personable, helpful, funny and full of helpful info! We got a tomahawk steak, the first one I've ever had in my entire life. It was an amazing presentation, just what you would hope for. When we arrived, the table wasn't quite ready and they gave us complementary drinks up by the rail. We sat down and they gave us complementary Prosecco. Easily the best steak I've had in Boston thus far. Service was so friendly and quick, and the space is cozy and intimate. I didn't love the cocktails when I've been to Bogie's or Wig Shop, but the menu rotates pretty regularly and they also have a nice wine selection. We had the porterhouse (perfect for splitting between 3 people), truffle fries, Caesar salad, mushrooms, and Mac and cheese. It was an expensive meal but it was honestly worth it. Bogie's is definitely a cool little spot - essentially a speakeasy steakhouse hidden inside The Wig Shop bar. There are only a couple tables, making it feel quite exclusive while dining. The service is reasonable with basically one server/bartender for the small number of tables in back. Our server was friendly, but every once in awhile you could tell when it was getting busier and he wasn't around as often as you might expect. Their rolls and butter were phenomenal. I could have probably eaten 4 myself. We started with the Salmon Tartare, as it was a unique dish, and it was well worth it. Fresh with crisp wonton crisps - highly recommend. For our mains, the filet and NY Strip were both solid, if not quite the top tier steaks from elsewhere outside Boston. They were a true 4-star dish - one with really no complaints but just a bit less flavorful than the best out there! Improvement over my last visit (8 years ago), but still lacking. Our waiter John was great, very friendly, helpful, personable. We started with an order of crab cake & 2x Bone Marrow. While the taste of the crab cake was good, I felt the portion size was small for $24 (in that, I wouldn't order this again). The bone marrow was a hit. There was a slight snafu on the steaks, where one of the orders was captured as strip steak instead of ribeye, but they fixed it pretty quickly. Two orders of chimichurri, that was not very good (neither really got touched). The largest disappointment was the portion size of the potatoes and mushrooms. I feel if you're paying $15+, you should get enough to share; we each got a spoonful of potatoes, not worth the price. Old Smokey beverage was top notch, I'd recommend to anyone that's considering & likes a smooth and smoky drink. We were here for a 50th birthday (mentioned on the reservation). The ULTIMATE date night destination!! This spot is literally hidden inside of another restaurant so it's tiny (5 tables total) and feels very private. Most of the place is lit by candlelight and they were playing Frank Sinatra all night in the background. The vibe/ambiance here is beyond cozy, intimate and romantic... My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We started with the steak tartare, which in itself was excellent, but it was served with "kettle chips" aka Cape Cod potato chips which I felt like was an odd pairing. For our entree, we shared the tomahawk steak (medium-rare). It was an ample portion size for two people, cooked perfectly and had the most amazing juicy flavor. It came with steak butter on top, which our server lit on fire at our table to heat up (nice touch!). For our sides, we got the asparagus and fingerling potatoes. We are normally not asparagus people but we couldn't stop commenting on how amazing it was; thin, crispy asparagus sticks smothered in a flavored butter sauce. I could eat these everyday they were that good! And omg the dessert!! We shared the "campfire brownies" which was a HUGE bowl of crumbled brownies, melted marshmallows and ice cream. We had a couple seated behind us that were making out before and after our dining session ... not that appetizing for us ... but promotes the general coziness vibe. We got the filet mignon and ribeye - both perfect! Also got the Mac n Cheese, very very decadent if that's your thing. The butter for both of these was delectable. The steak tartare..... with chips.....I guess they go together? But there is better steak tartare elsewhere in the city with and actual yolk on top and bread. The atmosphere here was really cool and unique. Had to enter through a Wig Shop. They escort you to this private back room with a few tables. Very chic, velvet walls, small bar but very attentive staff. A huge plus was the private bathroom in the back. Perfect to have a conversation with dinner not too loud in here even when full. It's sandwiched between the Wig Shop bar on one side and JM bar on the other but you couldn't even tell honestly. Nice menu for food and drinks. The cocktails we had were delicious! The biggest draw for us was the steaks. I had a NY sirloin as a table we ordered broccolini and duck fat potatoes as our a la carte sides to share. This has to be one of the best, juiciest, tender, almost melt in your mouth, flavorful steak I've ever had. We savored each bite. We will definitely be coming back. Bogie's always comes up as one of the best steakhouses in Boston for a reason. It won't come up as one of the flashy places that attract tourists. This is a place to go if you really just want a great steak and are willing to pay a good amount for it. The au poivre sauce is probably the best we'd ever had. The sides are not included, like with most upscale steak houses, but the mushrooms were delicious. The menu is small but the food came out fast. The staff really elevated the experience and gave very well informed and honest input on the menu. They really pulled off the speakeasy experience without any gimmick. I came to Bogie's Place when a friend was visiting Boston recently, and I really liked it! Bogie's Place is on the side of JM Curley's, tucked away behind a nice curtain. They are two ENTIRELY different establishments--not to speak poorly of JM Curley, as I think they have quite good food. Kevin provided EXCELLENT and friendly service from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. It's nice that it's such an intimate dining room, with seats for fewer than 20 people. I absolutely loved the interior and was surprised to see that we were the only people in the whole dining room for most of our reservation, although partway through, another group showed up at the long table in the restaurant. Except for in the very middle, my filet mignon was a touch overcooked for me. The mac & cheese was good, although nothing to particularly write home about. I am the sort of person who notices house bread & butter, and they had the sweet cream butter that's my favorite. Mmm good! I love the intimate atmosphere here and only wish there were some way to further insulate the noise from JM Curley's. I think Bogie's Place is a great place to come for an intimate date night. While the food wasn't mind-blowing for me, it was overall a great experience, and the intimate nature of the restaurant--combined with the limited seating--give it a very exclusive feel. Our server was Jeremy and he was great - we had a few questions about the menu which he was very knowledgeable of, he helped us pick out a bottle of wine, and overall made the entire dinner very fun which we appreciated! The space is very intimate and feels very much like a prohibition era speakeasy. The food was excellent, we got the bone marrow as an appetizer and all of us got different steaks which were perfectly cooked and very well dressed. This is a great spot, I can't believe we had never been before. There were 4 of us on a Saturday night, we had a blast (we were pretty well lubricated before we got there, that didn't hurt). If the front desk at our hotel hadn't told bus about it we would have missed out on a great experience. It is primarily reservations only but they were able to sneak the 3 of us in. Such an amazing dining experience. I went with my best friend as a late birthday dinner and we absolutely loved the experience. They did have us wait at JM Curley and it was a bit awkward just standing around but we did not wait more then 10 minutes for our table. It was a unique and special experience. Our waiter was extremely informative and gracious. We shared a tomahawk and where automatically informed that it does take a little extra time due to the size of the steak and we loved being kept in the loop. The wait for it was actually not bad at all and we did not mind it. We didn't want an app since we got such a large portion of steak and just enjoyed the warm bread and compound butter it was paired with. My bartender ended up being my server that night. Didn't get free mystery shots this time actually. Anywho, to start we got the Bone Marrow. I cannot believe The Boy FINALLY agreed to this - maybe it was the drinks in him already - ANYWAY, we got our first taste of Bone Marrow ever and we are never turning back! Such good, gooey, slurpy flavor bombs! The Boy got a delicious NY Strip (12 oz), I got the bone-in Porterhouse (28 oz), his dad got the Tomahawk (whopping 22 oz), and his dad's girlfriend got the Grass Fed Filet Mignon (8 oz). So really ... we got one of each kind of steak the place had to offer and we all got a bite of each other's ... not a single piece of meat was a letdown. I've never seen all of us so satisfied with ALL of our steaks. Sides: we got Sauteed Mushrooms, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, and Potato Puree ... none of these stood a chance. The Brussel Sprouts especially. Needless to say, a wonderful meal. So wonderful we couldn't stuff ourselves with desserts (which never happens). Overall a TRULY awesome fucking meal at a cool-ass, intimate as hell (like there are literally only 2-3 other tables/parties) speakeasy steakhouse. My minus a quarter star though is because of the true confusion ... and not even the 'oh I'm not in the know, this is a speakeasy you dunce' but because 1) I called to ask if I could have my reservation moved by half an hour. My call went unreturned ... didn't seem to matter luckily. Our table was there when we arrived anyway ... however this leads me to... 2) We didn't get ushered in at all. No one asked who's name was on the reservation or if we had one at all ... in fact ... no one really let us in. Thank god for those photos on Yelp because we walked in the direction of the 'Adults Only' wall and really sat ourselves. Nice experience to have once, but if revisiting just come for the drinks and ambience. Food is average and priced well above-average. PROS: Bogie's is a cool speakeasy themed restaurant. Located within The Wig Shop a speakeasy bar. This setting makes it feel really special when visiting and like your going to some secret club. We arrived and were promptly greeted by the host and taken to our booth. Only 5 tables and a very intimate setting, great for dates! Our waiter and the service was amazing! We were very impressed by how quick food was coming out and how attentive the staff was. You are made to feel important and valued. Bogies went above and beyond for us in terms of service! We had gone the day before Valentines and I had made a special request for a dessert with a written message. They obliged free of charge! and handled it like pros, waiting for her to go to the restroom before scheming with me! She loved it and I appreciate the team for making it happen. CONS: The food and the prices.... Not much to elaborate on. The prices are kind of crazy, but it's fine dining and an exclusive experience so it would be worth it if the food was good....we had the Oysters and Steak Tartare for apps. Oysters were lovely and sooo tasty, steak tartare was average. For mains we had filet mignon and New York strip both were served nice and hot and cooked to a perfect Medium as requested unlike some other reviews... The filet didn't have much flavor at all but at least was super tender. The strip packed so much flavor and we both found it to be delicious. We also got the Mac and cheese which was very sad and not too cheesy! More like pasta in a yellowish watery soup. We took that home in a doggy bag and hopefully can revitalize it. Our bill came out to 300$ including the tip. There are 73 photos on this page yet you won't see any of mine. I'll explain why as I continue on with the review. We came across Bogie's Place while searching new places to try in Boston. I must say that the photos helped us in making our decision to try it. The place is small with very few seats. To find it, you have to enter the bar, JM Curley, which has a very small sign outside of it and that makes it easy to miss. Once you enter, to your left, you will see an entry way that is closed off by a curtain. There are signs. One says "For Adults Only", the other says "No cell phones". We were about to enter when a server at JM Curley approached us and questioned us. We told her that we had a 5 p.m reservation. She said she had to check to see if the waitress in there was ready to receive us. It turned out that there was a waiter and he was ready for us. Much to our surprise, we were the only customers during our entire meal. Our server introduced himself to us and talked about the place and the menu. There was background music which was apparently his personal CD that featured classically trained singers singing songs from the last 30 years. While it was interesting and pleasant, given the theme of the restaurant, we both thought that music from Bogie's hayday (30s and 40s) would have been more appropriate. We, perhaps, should have pointed that out. We both ordered drinks. I tried one of their specials, the Shinobu which consists of: "Bombay Sapphire Gin, Japanese Yuzu Citrus, Lychee Puree, Salted Basil Oil, Ancho Chili Oil". This drink had a mix of hot and sweet in it and supposedly with each sip one was supposed to experience a different taste. It didn't quite happen like that but it was a unique drink. My husband had a Bloody Mary which he found to be super spicy. For our main course, we both ordered the 8 oz filet cooked medium rare. I forget all the toppings/sauces on it but most memorable was the red wine reduction which, to me, almost overpowered the filet. The filet itself was cooked properly and very tender. For our sides, we got sauteed mushrooms and grilled asparagus. My husband ate all the mushrooms (which were button ones) which was fine with me. The portion was rather generous. I ate the asparagus which was grilled to perfection. For dessert, I got a plate of four mini cannolis which had an undercurrent of cinnamon. While I could have done without the cinnamon, they were tasty. My husband had a small bowl of lemon sorbet. I tried to take photos. While the waiter was making our drinks, I snapped a photo of the small dinner rolls which came with the meal. He noticed I did this and I got slapped down (well...figuratively). Then I got a mini lecture. He mentioned the "no cell phones" sign but I didn't take them with a cell phone. Next, I was told that they were trying to recreate the feel of an old speak easy and that if you took a photo of yourself in a speak easy, the cops could see it and come after you. I pointed out that back then, photos had to be developed and it would be days before anyone saw them. He admitted that I got him there. I also pointed out that there were photos on Yelp. He said those happened when he had to leave the room to get food. So...I didn't take anymore photos and I won't put up the photo of the dinner rolls. All in all, a good meal that we enjoyed. I will say that if they don't want any photos taken, they need to be very specific in their signage. My guess is that some of the photos posted were done knowing that they were doing so in violation of the rules. While others were taken while being unaware of the rules. Still, it was a unique experience with good food. As for Bogie's --- they really need to make it crystal clear that they don't allow anyone to take photos. read more

My husband and I went here prior to a show. We were ready for a fun and well deserved date night treat (we have been married for 27 years, we have this stuff figured out). Our minds and hearts were open to whatever came our way. This place is such a fun adventure. Kevin was amazing. The charcuterie and cheese board was the best I have ever had. Ever. The velvet on the walls.. the candles, the linens, the music and the food. All terrific. Did they have the bottle of wine I chose? No. Did they come back with something better than I could have imagined? Kevin sure did. What a range of emotions at this place. First you walk into the building and it's a super loud bar/restaurant, but then you're lead into a smaller side room which is quieter and only has 4-5 tables a 3 seats at the bar. You relax into a table and await the experience. You'd think at an intimate setting like this the service would be exceptional but in reality the service is atrocious. I waited 5 minutes to even get a menu, another 5 minutes to order a drink, and it was a full 30 minutes before I got up to leave because nobody had bothered to come by to take my food order despite my trying to get their attention. They promised to expedite the food and I was hungry so I stuck around. I think the couple next week to me waited 45 minutes before they finally asked to order. If I had come for a date or a business dinner I would have been mortified at my poor choice of restaurant. Food wise there is good news. The biscuits and honey butter they give you as the bread course are literally the best biscuits I've ever had in my entire life. Phenomenal. That's where the good news ends. Somehow this place made it's way to the list of Boston's best steakhouses but I can only surmise that's because Boston has so few good local non-chain steakhouses. The wedge salad has cayenne on it and not in an interesting what-is-that-hitting-my-tongue kind of way but in a this-salad-is-too-spicy kind of way. The filet has too much salt on it and isn't seared in a way that gives it that nice maillard flavor. And this is just a personal preference but I hate creamed spinach that hasn't been chopped first. The host Domingo is a serious cocktail experimenter with great ideas and if you could just come here for biscuits and cocktails as a warmup before going somewhere else for dinner I would do that, but that isn't really an option and so I suggest you save the frustration and go to Grill 23 instead. read more

Step back in time as you step behind the curtain into Bogie's Place. The boisterous atmosphere of jm Curley's melts away as you enter a 40's-esque, speakeasy space with calmer music and quieter voices. Exclusive yet comfortable, you feel well taken care of. Considering we were the only diners for the first hour of our meal, our server (shout out to Domingo!) was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Everything feels balanced, everything feels right. The atmosphere flows right into the food. The basket of warm cheddar biscuits are served with honey butter which is salted at the table. The details are impeccable, and the taste even better. Our Gilt City offer was a 3-course meal with wine pairings. For appetizers, we could choose the wedge salad or the oysters. However, since they didn't have the oysters that night, Domingo said we could pick something off of the regular appetizer menu. The mussels fra diablo it is! This dish is comforting with a nice spice, and the wedge salad was the steak of salads, loaded up with blue cheese dressing, bacon, and croutons. We had to pace ourselves here, as these 2 dishes alone could have easily been our meal. This starting course was made even more splendid by the accompanying bubbles, which Domingo poured generously and often. For the entrees, our options were the NY strip steak and the roasted lemon thyme chicken. One of each, please! Surprisingly, for a restaurant known for its meats, the chicken was the stand-out dish in my opinion. The lemon and thyme played beautiful with the gamey poultry. The steak, ordered medium, was prepared just right with a pink center and served with a large pat of butter on top and a tangy wine sauce on the side. The drink pairing was a fruity red which made both dishes even more delectable. The dessert course brought a cinnamon strudel bread pudding with accompanying glass of sherry. The sherry was sweet, and the pudding was warm. Although the bread was tough in parts and rather heavy, it was a comforting finish to a hearty meal. Pulling back the curtain to leave, it's a shock to reenter the loud jm Curley's and be ripped from the era of Bogie's. I could have stayed there all night, sipping champagne and unplugging from the world. If you are into a dining experience this is one for the books. First off we found this place when we had gone the night before to the Wig Shop speakeasy. Made reservations for the following evening before we left the bar. So we accessed the speakeasy steakhouse from the Wig Shop. We were seated on time and we're immediately greeted by Jamison. He was the primary reason for our incredible dining experience. Poured us some champagne and took our cocktail orders. Get the Old Smokey and watch him make the cocktail if you can. We ordered the seafood bruschetta. Delicious. The sides are family size and we ordered the Brussels, asparagus, mushrooms and two baked potatoes. Everything was so good. We then ordered the bone in ribeye and the NY strip. I normally order the filet but since we were sharing we went to the strip. The ribeye was well seasoned and cooked to order. I would order that again. The strip was not as flavorful but was still good. Some the review comment on the price of the menu items. You can view the menu and the prices. This is a fairly expensive restaurant. Everything from the location, the small intimate space (only 5 tables) to the service, cocktails and the food made this a great experience. Hidden in the back room of JM Curlye's is BOGIES. It's a small boutique steak joint & bar hidden from the public in the back room of this establishment. The quaint 5 table top place is perfect for a romantic evening of flesh before you dive into the real flesh of the evening (WINK WINK). Our meal which consisted of STEAK, grilled to perfection and mouth watering to flesh lovers. We choose to get the porterhouse special for 2 that night which included salad and 2 side's for $100. My better half ate the filet portion and I ate the larger portion of our perfectly grilled masterpiece of meat. (Something about perfect grill marks on a steak gets me excited).... Needless to say she liked my mouth watering flesh more than hers ( THE STEAK that is ) so I shared. Make a reservation cause like I said it's small and you may not get a table for your night. Awesome after much hype I finally got a chance to have dinner here start to finish you just feel like you're going somewhere special hidden in between a velvet curtains A throwback to prohibition times drinks were amazing. The place was nice enough and had good drinks and salads. However, our $90 steaks were disappointing. We've had much better steaks for the same price (or less) at nearby steakhouses. Maybe it was an off night or steak is just not their thing. We'd maybe go again but not for steak. read more

This place is so good that when my barely-religious fiancé went to the bathroom, he knelt down and thanked god for this meal. Granted, he was a few drinks in, but for that reaction, it was worth every penny we spent. Highly recommend Bogie's for special occasions or for rich steak lovers. Now down to business: tomahawk is delicious, recommend getting medium rare. Get the Mac and cheese. It'll be the cheesiest Mac and cheese you've ever had. Asparagus was good too. Try some cocktails. The bartender who works there Thursdays and Fridays knows his drinks. His double black Manhattan made me rethink my distaste for manhattans, his Smokey was the best old fashioned my fiancé has ever had, and his passion at the bergamot was refreshing and not too sweet. The only things we were huge fans of were the desserts (flavor of blueberry crumble was too subtle and texture of carrot cake was too dense) - not bad, but you may want to top off the evening in the North End instead if you're picky about dessert. The atmosphere feels like a speakeasy, and overall the food, drinks, and service live up to its atmosphere. Will definitely be back. read more
