My first time as a local going to try the infamous Washburne Cafe, and first off the the interior is so cute very whimsy, cozy vibes! I ordered some coffee and a sandwich so the coffee was good, I was nervous it would be bitter but was perfect to my liking, not too sweet! The sandwich on the other hand could see better days, the bread was kinda dry and cold..maybe some butter and toasting it could've taken it up a notch & the goat cheese left the chat, lowkey looked more like philadelphia cream cheese and the jam was overly sweet, felt like a overpriced jelly sandwich. I do like how it has a lot of seating an outdoor seating! the pasteries looked yummy so might try that next time read more

What an unexpected experience in Springfield. This cafe provides, in the best sense, some wonderful big city food and vibe. The homemade cinnamon roll was eye rollingly indulgent. The breakfast sandwiches are creative and packed with interesting ingredients. Best of all, Nami (sp?) was so helpful and genuine. Truly, an exceptional breakfast. After viewing the Simpson murals, stop by and have what one woman described as "the strongest coffee in town." On Main Street is Washburn Cafe. Plenty of seating to enjoy your coffee or work. Some savory and sweet pastries including passion fruit donuts. The cardamom vanilla latte was great and the decor is minimal but sets a calming mood. They've just expanded a bit, and are serving the same good quality breakfast/brunch fare as before! We ordered a fried chicken biscuit and I was really impressed by it. The size was a bit over the top, but that's what I get for ordering an entire chicken thigh on a soft buttermilk biscuit - the structural integrity of the sandwich would have been more sound had I gotten it on brioche. I don't think it needed egg, but then again, I have a smaller appetite than most. Very delicious, crispy, juicy chicken though :). It hit the spot for me! So on my brother's recommendation we ordered the Washburne Breakfast Sandwich ($13.50), and it is the kind of thing that makes you pause just to appreciate what is in front of you. The roasted pork belly is everything you want it to be, thick slabs with edges caramelized and crackly, a smoky-salty chew that gives way to melt-in-your-mouth fat. Add in a runny over-medium egg, sharp Tillamook cheddar, and just enough Sriracha mayo to cut through the richness, all tucked into a buttery brioche bun. Avocado for $4 takes it even further, turning every bite into a messy, glorious masterpiece. In a region that leans so heavily into vegan fare, this sandwich is a welcome, unapologetic celebration of the animal side of breakfast. The Smokey Blue Sandwich ($13.50) deserves its own spotlight. Rogue Creamery smoky blue cheese brings that deep, funky tang, balanced against the sweetness of honey mustard aioli, the heat of Mama Lil's peppers, and the crunch of bacon and greens. Topped with the same perfectly runny egg, every bite shifts between bold and sweet, creamy and sharp, savory and spicy. It is a layered, full-throttle flavor ride that keeps you hooked until the last bite. We also grabbed a couple sides of fruit ($3 each) for my nephew Burn. (Btw Washburne Café, if you ever need a mascot, look no further...likeness rights could be negotiated in pork belly sandos and fruit cups.) The café itself sits in a bright, historic downtown Springfield building that has stood for over a century, with tall windows and exposed brick giving it an easy charm. Downtown Springfield once carried a gritty, rough-around-the-edges reputation, but the Washburne building's revival and the café inside show just how far Main Street has come. If there is one note, it is that a bit more eye contact would go a long way. When I stood at the counter and asked for a to-go box it felt like I startled the staff, as if I had suddenly appeared from nowhere. Everyone was perfectly polite once engaged, but the shoe-stare avoidance is real. A small detail, and very easy to polish in a place turning out food this outstanding. Sunday morning was about half full, the pace was relaxed but flowing, and the food more than lived up to the hype. My brother was right: skipping Washburne would have been the real crime. I had a great experience right before yesterday's No Kings march in Springfield. Though obviously REALLY busy, staff were patient, kind and efficient. My breakfast sandwich (upgraded to a biscuit) was substantial, juicy and well-seasoned. The chai was delicious! The whole place was buzzing and there was a line out the door. This place is always a must when I'm in the area! The biscuits are actually to die for! I got the breakfast sandwich and it was the perfect pick me up! The portions are small so i wouldn't come here for a full breakfast but it is nice to grab something and go. I was in this weekend and it took over 30 minutes to get our food so be prepared to wait! Super cute spot!! It can be busy, but I've never had trouble finding a place to sit. Even if it's cold you can brave the picnic tables outside. Service is good. If you're dining in, go to the counter to get your drinks but they will bring your food to you. Bus your own table. If you want water, it's by the silverware, which you will need to grab yourself. Bathrooms in the back. Food is very good. Biscuits and gravy is one of my favs. Street parking, so be patient with trying to find it, sometimes it's hard. read more

That said we didn't have too much difficulty finding seating at 12:30 on a rainy Wednesday. OK 'bout the food. The fried chicken was freshly fried and piping hot. Waffles were very yummy. Made from scratch . The biscuit, which my daughter said was life changing when she came here in January, was good but not life changing for me. It was a little denser than i world have liked. I don't make it over to Springfield that often, but this is a really nice spot! The interior is a lá trendy cafe but still comfortable, not pretentious. Coffee is very good, with the beautiful barista art on top that you'd expect in such a cafe, and I love that they make all of their own flavor syrups. I tried a latte with cardamom honey syrup and it was delicious! The Washburne Cafe also offers a nice menu of breakfast and lunch options to choose from. While the overnight yeasted waffle was super tempting, I went with the Smokey Blue breakfast sandwich on recommendation of the guy at the counter and it hit the spot. Something about bacon and blue cheese together that is perfect! You order at the counter and any food items are brought out to your seat. Visiting on a Monday and around lunch time, the cafe was very busy. My friend and I sat at some bar seats by the front window for a while (maybe 30ish min) until a small table opened up. That's the one hard thing about nice cafes like this--people tend to come in to leisurely drink their coffee and work on their laptops or whatever for quite a long time, so expect to wait a little for a table if it's during peak hours like lunch time or certainly on the weekend. read more

We tried the Smoky Bleu sandwich, the Fried Chicken Breakfast sandwich, and The Basic on a biscuit. They were perfect. The Smoky had a perfect over easy egg and plentiful toppings. The Fried Chicken was crispy with a spicy honey mustard. The Basic had fluffy scrambled eggs, gooey cheese, and a flaky, buttery biscuit. We also got a ham and manchego bun that was buttery and flaky goodness. For drinks we tried the ever popular iced matcha and a cardamom latte. Both were just right. The antique wood furniture and hodge podge of plates from the last 6 or so decades were fun without being too thrift shop. Natural light and plants plus a little mini bookshelf boutique added interest. The donuts are on our list to try next time! read more

We visit the Eugene/ Springfield area a couple times a year. This will be our new go-to morning routine going forward. Love the vibe, the coffee (of course), and the food as well! A little proxy, but fairly consistent with the whole college town local economy pricing. Very comfortable place to awoke and greet the day with some awesome breakfast treats to go along with your coffee. I highly recommend the Manchego and Ham roll, which we all shared a bit of. The breakfast sandwiches were all piping hot, fresh, and beautifully presented. And shocker, they tasted just as good! Also a bonus is its location nestled down in old town Springfield. I popped in here today before heading to work nearby and was not disappointed! First of all the ambiance in here is superb. I love the music they were playing. Lots of big windows allowing for natural light. You have the option of high top seats, tables, and couch seating. I came on a Thursday afternoon and there were people there but it wasn't overly crowded. My food came pretty fast as well. The employees are so friendly and kind. Always asking if I needed anything or if they could do anything for me. The drip coffee is $3.50 and it's bottomless! I loved that. I believe it's from farmers union. I enjoyed it a lot. The sandwich I got was super filling and satisfying. Tasted very fresh. I got it on a brioche roll which I believe they bake in house. It was so soft and a little sweet. So good!! My whole meal was around 15$ which I think was very reasonably priced especially considering the coffee was bottomless. Overall, I will definitely be coming back. SANITATION FAIL!!! I walked in to order a coffee this morning & the cashier was eating a banana while standing at the register. As i walked closer he set it down on the counter next to the pastries that are displayed on open plates. He gave me no greeting. I ordered a coffee, he rang me up, still no talking with his mask 1/3 of the way on. He then walked away.. ( i have NOT seen him wash his hands once & the 1/2 ate banana was still on the counter next to the food). He then proceeded to make a persons yogurt bowl with unwashed, ungloved hands since eating a banana. GROSS That is when i asked for my coffee to go & told the barista why i wasn't staying.
