What an absolutely wonderful local establishment. My partner got her aunts watch cleaned here and had a band changed. The band broke the next week, but they replaced it for free. A testament of their dedication (and maybe the band quality). After having the watch a couple weeks, I accidentally shattered the crystal. So sad. I looked at a few options, but a lot of them you needed to ship in the watch and they couldn't tell you if they could even fix it before seeing it. Also, a lot of those shipping places starting at $70 anyway. It was coach. I took it to the coach shop, but they also did not fix that. With that in mind, I went back to where she had it fixed. The people working in there were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They were upfront about the cost and let me know the waiting time. One of them makes their own jewelry and it's super beautiful. Luckily, the watch took less time than the maximum amount I would be waiting, but I was fine either way. They called and I went and picked it up today. The two humans were working and I can tell they truly want to help and enjoy their job. The Crystal was a bit particular but it looks just like new. The cost was $80 with tax which I found very fair as they replaced the battery as well. Wonderful establishment with great employees who are professional and approachable. I went in wanting their "Bulova 96B332 Limited Edition Breton" they had on display, although it was slightly used I still was very interested as it is such a nice piece. The price at first wasn't bad but then I checked for it online and it was a whopping $150 less and brand new online versus $900 at this store in Asheville. I'm visiting here for a small vacation and would've loved to take this watch with me back home but I cannot justify spending $150 more for a used watch than buying the same thing online brand new! i'm not exactly sure how this place stays afloat, it seems like the only thing they do is replace batteries and mess around with bracelets and straps. Every time I go in there's a watchmaker behind the glass working away, but I've tried to get at least four watches serviced there and they always have some excuse for why they can't do it. The last time I was in with a Tissot Powermatic 80, they basically said they wouldn't bother with something like that they're too busy with Rolex and Omega... OK, go off I guess but I own five Omegas, a Rolex, Longines, and a couple Breitling.. I find it hard to believe in a town this size they're so busy servicing Rolex that they can't take any other work on? They seem to have a general distain for Seiko, no idea why- don't even inquire about getting any Seiko service here, oh look at you like you're nuts. I will say that the staff is generally pretty friendly and knowledgeable but there is for sure an elitist vibe in there... Like, make sure you wear your aqua terra in there, not your Seiko5 if you want them to talk to you. They do have some fairly cool used watches for sale and while the prices are a little bit on the optimistic side, they aren't out and out ridiculous. Just overall not that pleasant of a shopping experience. I actually wouldn't be surprised to learn this place was a front for some illegal business. I have now been in 2 times and each time for a relatively easy repairs (replace a crystal face) and the other time to reattach a band to the body of the watch. In both cases they indicated they could not fix that and on one occasion laughed and joked I should head to the mall on the second occasion. This place is absolutely terrible and at least the kids at the mall can fix my watch. Steer clear of this incompetence and rude service. read more

I sent my baby a 1993 Tudor Chronograph 79180 in to have the case and bracelet cleaned new gaskets and water tested I expected it to look good, was I surprised it looks excellent. Great shop. We dropped in just before closing and Justin made time to change batter6 on my wife's Heuer. While talking, he turned us on to Bertucci (Very nice Titanium case, Sapphire crystal, Japense movement for less than $200) as a gift for our college age son. He loved the gift and we loved the personal recommendation. We will continue to use for battery swap or maintenance of our higher end pieces (Omega coaxial, Cailbre 60 and COSC movements). read more

I called here randomly when I realized I had not one but two watches which needed new batteries. I told them I had a new Marc Jacobs watch and an old, beat-up Lumivox Navy Seal one, and the guy who answered the phone said no problem. I had no idea how long the wait would be so I asked him if I came in right away (lunch time, Friday) might I be able to pick the watches up before they closed? He put me on hold for a second to check and then came back on the line and said they could do it in 10-15 minutes if I got there soon. They're located in the Grove Arcade (entrance on Page Avenue on eastern side), so with both Battery Park Book Exchange AND Santé Wine bar right there, ummm, yeah, I could kill 15 minutes. Woohoo, indeed. They cleaned both watches and replaced their batteries for a good price AND the technician even told me he noticed a bit of rust in the Lumivox. He took care of it but cautioned me to keep an eye on that and try not to allow it to get and stay wet for long. I wear that one a lot when I exercise, so that's probably the issue, but at least I know to be mindful of it now. The Watchmaker's Shop offers friendly, efficient, quality service, at a reasonable price. If you're in need of some watch TLC in the downtown Asheville area, you want to check them out. I found this shop online and am thrilled that I did! My Rolex needed a new tube, stem and crown. I wanted to be sure that they used only Rolex parts and they do. My watch was repaired in two days. Not only did they do a great job but they polished the crystal and cleaned the band so it looks brand new! My watch will never be serviced anywhere else. I highly recommend them! read more

Not much of a shop. Basically room for one person. I showed up hoping to see some great watches. I collect and am always looking. Usually when buying high end watches, you aren't greeted with, "Most people prefer to look online". The young man then put at least $30k in watches down on the counter haphazardly. Not my store but i wouldn't want my vintage Rolexes being thrown about without a proper pad. Very strange "shop". read more

A few things I'm disappointed about, lost band, polished my watch when asked not to and not working on price when brought in cash also did not receive any paper with my watches serial number or reference number like I was told I would. Will update when I know my watch is running well. UPDATE: 3.5 stars, found band and shipping it back, correcting papers, I understand no fix for polished watch just make sure if you have a vintage watch and do not want it polished to reiterate multiple times before the service and during the service., Update 2, told me my watch was water resistant and passed the test, received service paper and says otherwise, do not understand how unprofessional these guys can be. Told them watch wasn't fit properly in case and was making clicking noise, was told they'd fix, did not. Don't think I got my money's worth and should have given partial refund, like most other watchmakers would. I asked them to do multiple, simple things, did not. read more

Everyone in this shop is professional and personable. More importantly, they are knowledgeable, reasonable on cost, and they make sure your watch is repaired perfectly to your satisfaction. I especially liked the fact that they put a battery in my Cartier to see if that was the problem, but found there was more to be done. Another watch repair shop had replaced the battery twice within a year, but it stopped both times. Instead of just putting another expensive battery in it for me, they were honest and suggested I deal with Cartier directly for full refurbishment. They would have sent it to Cartier for me, but stated that I would save money if I did it directly. They also fixed my Ebel and gave me a professional appraisal for insurance purposes, both for a very reasonable fee. read more

I'm not sure this is a watchmaker shop. I took in a running Illinois pocket watch from about 1910. The movement is in great condition, but the watch was not keeping time properly. When I asked what it would cost to clean and service the movement, the shopkeeper said it would run $600-$800. In addition to the farcical price for cleaning and servicing the watch the proprietor also made reference to the possible need of buying a donor movement and other complications. Even though the person behind the counter complemented the cleanness of the movement, he recommended that I not get it serviced. A better name for the shop would be "the battery replacement shop". Two weeks ago they made quick work of replacing the battery in my Tissot T Touch and charged a reasonable price. Two years ago they cleaned and serviced a Longines Admiral for me and charge $225, a far more complicated movement than the Illinois pocket watch. Something has changed at the shop, and not for the better. read more
