There's no substitution for the original . . . . but then the original isn't really the original (I know some of you are old enough to know what I mean. Those of you that aren't . . . . you missed out!). That bring said, the food and drinks here are great. And in my opinion the original flavor buffalo wings and strips can't be beat. Certainly the best in Lincoln, without a doubt the best in Nebraska, and in my experience the best in the USA! (I can't say best in the world because the is a place in Mexico that is at least as good . . . . sorry.) I stop by for these wings whenever I'm back in Nebraska, which unfortunately is only once every few years. Parents live about 100 miles away but I still make the trip, and it's worth it every time. Crap . . . . now my mouth is watering and sitting here in DC knowing that I'm months, if not years, away from my next Watering Hole boneless wing is making me sad. Best wings in town! Actually the best wings I have had anywhere. This place was a weekly event when we lived around here and now that we are out of town I have dreams of the grilled wings. Pro tip. Order the wings grilled. They take a little longer (about 20 minutes) but what is 20 minutes in the long run of having your tastebuds changed for life. If you are a blue cheese freak like me you can even order them with extra blue cheese crumbles! The Pierogies are also a classic here. They have drink specials daily. I love this place. read more

Very much a no frills, beer and wings type place which you could likely assume from the name. They advertise themselves as "the best wings in town" but they are not really anything special. The famous "grilled hot" wing doesn't pack as much flavor, nor does it have the true vinegary hit that you get from the top notch buffalo wing. They're still worth an order and passable, but I definitely hope they're not the absolute best in town as that would be a shame. read more

On Monday they have half price appetizers all day. The nachos were good and had lots of stuff on them. The fried appetizer combo was good and came with a lot of fried combinations. The chicken strips were big enough for a meal in themselves. The chicken was good and the fries were also good. Can't go wrong with the half price all day. This evening I attended the watering hole with a coworker and a new friend I got to meet for the first time. I have been to the watering hole many times in the past, but have not been there in over a year. In the past I was a little different of a person but since have made a lot of positive changes. Tonight a coworker, new friend, and myself who are all combat vets decided to meet up for wings and a drink or two at the watering whole on Coddington and have some wings since watering hole does have pretty good wings. I ordered a vodka Red Bull, my friends ordered a beer, and crown and coke. I finished my vodka red bull after roughly 30 minutes and ordered one more just as food was arriving. My drink showed up and I excused myself from the table to use the restroom. As I stood up and reached for my face covering, I accidentally bumped the table on the patio where we were sitting. The table itself rocked as the legs were uneven and spilled my second drink that had not been touched at all. I cleaned up the ice the best I could, and the glass was fine. I walked into the bar to use the restroom and asked our waitress if she could replace my drink since it had spilled. I apologized for the accident, however the table being uneven and rocking was not my fault in the least. She said sure, however after using the restroom and sitting down the I'm assuming manager that remembered me from over a year ago when I was in a very bad place in life came to our table and in front of another 4 top behind us told me I was cut off and said "I know who you are and how you are and are cut off". I said I've had one drink and am completely sober, it was an accident. I feel thoroughly embarrassed having that said in front of a coworker and another vet that really doesn't know me and a 4 top of strangers sitting directly behind me. Honestly, I have never felt so degraded and embarrassed in front of company in my life. I know in life we all have done things and do not always make the best decisions. That being said, I showed no signs of intoxication, walked right past her, talked to the waitress, and walked back to the table only to be greeted with ridicule in front of friends I'd gotten to hang out with for the first time. This behavior and judgmental attitude just goes to show that even though someone was once in an extremely bad place after some life altering events that had recently occurred a year plus ago apparently means they can not change. If the watering hole chooses to have staff in charge that are obviously incapable of realizing people change, then I find it impossible to believe that I could support such an establishment ever again and will make sure to make it a point to let everyone I know the attitude and environment promoted and was witnessed by two other people that were equally dismayed and shocked by this behavior. I will be speaking with the better business bureau come Monday and duly filing a complaint on a discriminatory basis. This behavior is intolerable, and with times as they are embarrassing someone and making them seem like the worst person in the face of the earth is unacceptable. read more

Honestly, this place should get 5-stars because the service is personable, funny and friendly and, more importantly, the food is quite delicious. However, I'm knocking off two stars for a really dumb decision by the owners that screams as nickel-n-diming the customers. As of a few weeks ago, you can no longer order a pound of bone-in wings by itself. Instead, if you're coming here to enjoy their delicious wings, you're forced to order two pounds weighing in at $16.99. What's worse is that the owners won't allow you to split sauces between the two pounds (so, Hot for one pound and Bang Bang for the other, for example). I don't get this decision at all. It certainly doesn't benefit the customers, which makes me believe that this is a profit grab by the owners. If the owners decide to bring back the one pound bone-in wing option, I'd gladly change my review to five stars. I sincerely hope they do. read more

Called to make a order to go. Was asked to hold for a minute. 10 minutes later I hung up and tried to call back and the phone was busy. I drove 15 minutes to get to watering hole and the phone was still busy. When I went into order and told them what happened they said oh I wasn't here then. I can understand this happening once. But the same scenarios happen to me three times. We live on the west side of town. There's not a lot other things to eat out here. read more

The food is good here, typical bar food. I'd probably give the food, as a whole, 4-stars at least. Service is always great, so no problems there. Atmosphere is really nice too. Five stars. However, I do have a problem with the menu change in September 2017; they removed the option for 1-lb of (bone-in) wings and the smallest order is 2-lbs for $16.99. AND they don't let you order more than one sauce with them! I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous amount of wings for one person. Maybe let people choose two sauces so we can at lest split the order. Or, better yet, bring back the 1-lb option! I probably will not order bone-in wings again, unless they revive the old menu. read more

I'm not sure why everyone is complaining so much. I had a great experience. I'm from Omaha, so we don't get up to Lincoln a whole lot. But when we do, we like to go here. I picked up take out from there today, and the wings were larger than average in my opinion. If you compare them to a Buffalo Wild Wings, they were about double or little bit more in size. I think the selling points for me is the sauce. The ones I've tried are dynamite, and you can tell that they are not from a bottle and are homemade. We tried the blackberry barbecue, which was a very sweet barbecue sauce with notes of berries. The parmesan garlic, which was so creamy and rich and a perfect blend of cheese and garlic. Typically sometimes one overpowers the other at other restaurants. The teriyaki, which was probably most like what you would expect from other restaurants but still good. Finally, the bang bang. I can't put my finger on what is in it, but it is delightful. It's very creamy, sweet, and just a teeny bit of heat. So my experience was very positive. I would like to try more of their sauces in the future. I definitely will be coming back! read more

Please don't go here! Our experience was a combination of very unimpressive service, food and drinks. Started out with a flat Blue Moon. Then the waitress brought the orange slice for the Blue Moon over to the table in her bare hands because she forgot to add it initially, and proceeded to add it to the drink (maybe I'm just a germophobe but I thought this was gross). We ordered boneless wings because the sign outside said they were famous for their wings. These "wings" seriously were Tyson chicken strips covered with sauce. Also ordered the Parmesan garlic fries, which ended up being subpar normal unseasoned fries with a side of weird Parmesan sauce (charged $7 for these). Also the service was terrible I had to go to the bar to ask for a refill, more ranch and the bill. This place is not worth the time or money! read more

If you love wings this is the only place in town(or the downtown location). The grilled wings take a bit longer to cook, but are amazing. If you like spice, order them extra spicy and grilled. You won't be disappointed. read more

I actually reviewed this place 5 stars years ago but now updating that it's great customer service and food went way downhill. My recent visit was a carryout for 3lbs of wings. I get 15 small wings and somehow that is 3lbs?!?! I called and spoke to someone regarding this and I was told I'm not a regular and if I was I would know that all sales are final once your out the door. I got the district managers name and spoke with Stacy Cole and was called a liar and attacked!!! I never asked for a refund or anything but got all kinds of attitude from the lady and her district manager. Well I promise I will spread the word. Service sucks, food has went downhill, and over priced! In fact as we speak I honestly believe we got food poisioning. I promise I will never take another food in their establishment every again! My wife and I went there for wing Wednesday. Wings were expensive for a wing Wednesday night. I ordered a copper alt and a Corona for my wife. They didn't have Corona or any other Mexican beers. They also didn't tell us any specials on drinks for the evening. We didnt even know there was any specials until another customer asked but it was too late by then. Before we could ask for more ranch or the special on beers, the waitress dropped off our ticket twice without asking if we were doing okay or ready for the check. We felt rushed. She didn't even ask if my wife needed a to go box. One of the most disappointing things that happened tonight was that my coppper alt was expired over a year ago. I really think they are not ordering more beer until they run out of their old expired beer. I visited the downtown location a few days ago. I ordered the chili cheese dog and it was so freaking good....I'm still thinking about it! Two thumbs up!! I also ordered a Bloody Mary, because I ordered the chili cheese dog I decided to order it "not spicy". I have to say, it was probably the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. We've eaten here in the past and have had awful service, but it has been a while and wanted to support local due to the COVID pandemic, so we decided to try it again; very disappointing! The wings were slimy, and fries were soggy and cold. My husband used to love their "grilled" wings, therefore ordered them, but again slimy and barely grilled. I hate that I'm writing a negative review as we want to keep local bar & grills open, but this was not good at all. I would hope business's offering carryout food services would bust their balls to make sure their food is damn good during this time to ensure their future, but The Watering Hole is unfortunately not doing that. read more

What can I say, the wings are GREAT, the food is OK-DECENT, and the service is TERRIBLE. If you are an incredibly patient person that is willing to sit with an empty drink for 15 minutes or so, you probably won't mind this place. I continue to come back because of its location, but the service issues have been the same for years and I don't see any effort to make adjustments. It's just one of those things that you walk in understanding that you will need to track down your wait person, follow up on forgotten drinks and food orders, etc. This review is coming from dozens of experiences across several years and I consider myself to be very easy going and reasonable with this kind of stuff. Restaurant on 83rd and Holdrege has gone down hill fast. Used to love their wings but now every time I go, the same wings are cooked different and quality control sucks. I called to confront them that I had only given them a $3 tip and the waitress helped herself to $5! Then I was accused of "doing MY math wrong!" ha They of course offered my $2 back but why would I drive across town for $2?? It would cost me that much in gas! Order grilled wings to go and the food was spectacular.... the service and the price however was not. The menu that was listed on Metro Dining must have been an old menu because when it came time to pay for the order it was over double what the listed price was. When we called and spoke with someone at the Watering Hole about the price difference they had an attitude and told us that they had never had wings for the price that we were telling them. When we told them that we would fax the menu that we hard to them, we were told that they did not have a fax machine and they hung up. The service was terrible! the waitress messed up all of our orders and seem annoyed with us about it. I was also over charged $35 dollars and called to get it fixed. I have called for about three days, still have no answer on what they have decided to do about it and when I called again today I was told that neither the owner or the manger would be there until some other day this week.
