First off the staff was very friendly, our room wasn't anything fancy but it was very nice. The bathroom was small but it had a tub so it was very toddler friendly. We've stayed here multiple times. The motel is not the prettiest place; however,  we love the location. Compared to other lodging options near Nye Beach, this is great value.  We typically book through Agoda. Agoda seems to offer lower prices than other booking sites.  We've stayed on the second and third floors. They offer partial ocean view and ocean view rooms. Spend the extra dollars to get a view. The heating and cooling unit has worked well in each unit.  On our most recent stay, we asked for early check-in and was able to get into three rooms around 1pm. One of our rooms did not have a set of towels so we stopped by the front desk later that day to get those.  There is a long rod to hang your coats; however, limited hangers. Additionally, there is only one hook in the bathroom to hang a bath towel. Our most recent room on the third floor did not have a hook to hang our hand towel by the sink. There are body wash and shampoo dispensers in the shower. Soap bar and hand lotion by the sink. We got a room with two queen beds. There was only one nightstand in the middle. If you were on the outer side of the bed, nowhere to place personal items. The room came with a TV, mini fridge, Kerrigan coffee maker and microwave. Big parking lot. Grab and go breakfast is available between 8-10am in the lobby. They offer coffee, hot chocolate,  cereal,  bagels, English muffins, powdered donuts, fresh fruits, yogurts and jams. There are a few tables so you don't have to take breakfast to your room.  The rooms are clean and the location can't be beat. read more

Great spot. Now under the Oxo hotel chain but when you pull up it still just says Waves hotel. They gave it some new paint, it's a simple hotel with a perfect location. For me, that's what I want in a beach motel. The Oregon coast imho is not where I'm going for super luxury - this is a (perhaps unfortunately for me as person without kids) family friendly hotel, and importantly (as a dog mom) dog friendly hotel with just a $10 per fee (I think per night). It's right at the end of the little Newport strip of fun, but you will need to walk down (maybe 1/4 mile?) to the public beach entrance as the hotel is up on a cliff and you'd die/break the law if you went down to the beach straight from hotel! There is a nice lookout point right across from the hotel and we did have an ocean view. Easy parking, no frills breakfast (wrapped up bagels, fruit cups, string cheese, yogurts). Honestly if you're looking for something more in a beach motel you're better off in a resort as this is just about what you need to enjoy a day break from the city! read more

The "Ocean View" is blocked by a building across the street. I'd hate to see what they call a "limited ocean view." This is from the third floor, also there is no elevator. The room has no chain or deadbolt to make the exit child safe or prevent staff entry. This place gets a five from me because of the value! Such a deal so close to the beach and walking distance to everything, even Fred Meyers! The room was sparkling clean, the grounds were maintained and the staff was helpful and friendly, what more could you ask! We travel full time, living in our van, and like a hotel once in awhile to stretch out a bit and enjoy a big shower! Waves gave us everything we needed and wanted, including a beautiful ocean view! There are some long term "residents" but it was quiet at night when it needed to be! I recommend Waves for a quick stop and great value! read more

Very disappointed in our stay. No hand soap provided at the sink. There are body wash and shampoo dispensers in the shower if you want to wash your hands. There is no bathroom floor mat and only 1 washcloth was given. The latch on the 3rd floor window was broken. My grandson pushed it open, and luckily, he didn't fall out from the third floor. There were many broken light fixtures and a rusty shower curtain rod. The ocean view is marred by many close power lines. We expected better for over $400 for 2 nights. I've been debating between 2-4 stars and settled on three. I have stayed here three times in the past year, amd will absolutely stay here again, that said it needs work. The floors have been updated (I think I saw a review mention gross carpet - that is gone), so have the windows. I don't know if they all have, but my room (341) had been updated and that was great compared to the last two stays. And they open (have a screen) so I could listen to the waves crash in as I fell asleep. You can't beat the view, at least from the third floor. The corner room does have powerlines, can't remember if my other room did or if they sagged enough to be a but lower. But it didn't bother me. The staff have been wonderful and the rooms have always been clean. That said, there are no towel racks to hang wet towels. My room had one hook behind the door which was fine for a solo trip, but in Oct with family, that sucked, we had to hang them on hangers in the closet (and there weren't many hangers either. The tub was old and had been patched, but water temp/pressure was fine. Absolutely not a place for a romantic getaway, but as a 'starving artist' it was fine for me to get away and write for a long weekend especially price-wise compared to other ocean view properties. No comment on the pool/hot tub as I didn't even check if theybwere open/working, I wasn't interested. read more

Okay, this hotel. We've been here for a little over a month, moving a few rooms from 223, 120, 111, and 118. (Five different reservations.) When we first got here, like the rest of the world, they were a bit understaffed but all the staff we meet looked happy, always smiled and were very helpful to make sure the stay is what we needed. First, the they were only open at night. 2pm to 10pm? But the last week, they have been open from 8am to 9/10pm. The rooms beds were comfortable expect for 111's. Wifi was great in each room. The microwave and fridge worked perfectly. Bedding was comfy, coffee machine always worked, heater/ac worked perfectly. I only have two complaints about this hotel, is not all the outlets worked in the room. When I mentioned this at the front desk to one front desk agent, she shrugged it off and made it a comment that it's not her issue. The second complaint is the water in rooms 111 and 118 was only luke warm. read more

On the app that I did the reservation through won't let me add to my review, so I'm starting a new one our trip went fine for the most with the exception of the broken handle for the window. After checking out and getting home within that same day, I realized that I left my charger which was a $50 charger plugged in on the nightstand in between the beds that sits up on top of the nightstand, when I called back nobody had checked into the room yet only the maids had been in there and lo and behold they said that it wasn't in there, I only packed one bag with me and it was not in my bag, I know that I didn't pack it when I left... so yeah if you think that the maids are going to be stand up and honest you better guess again just another low life, in a low-life job, guess I shouldn't have expected anything more read more

Nahhhhhhhhhhhh. Let me start out with saying they hired some super nice staff, so good on them for doing something right because those ladies are sweet. But owners. They charge too much No air conditioning No fan No ocean view.. Definitely had to prop open my door just so I knew my 5 month old wasn't gonna die of heat exhaustion. Transition period or not this was not worth the price I've found hotels under $100 and at least I feel like I'm in a hotel. Look, I NEVER complain. Literally ever, but wow. Older buildings but doing remodeling and have some rooms that can see the ocean but you can hear it well. Beach is down a hill across the older ruff street, some potholes so be careful. Room has gotten rid of carpet, nice sink separate from bathroom because good sized rooms. Just make sure you ask for the building with elevator if it's hard to walk up stairs of 3 levels.only Ice machine is by stairs for both buildings. Good heating and cooling units not to loud, nice pod coffee makers in rooms, good dark curtains and end rooms have windows in back and one window on the side. Has pool in separate building and good parking over there, not like the parking by motel rooms on a small hill and a few parking spots, not enough handicap parking by the buildings. I've read some horrible reviews about this place and some good ones before we came here. Yes it is dated and could use some love however nothing can beat the location and we even have a partial ocean view for $100 per night! Also the room is great size and clean. Bathroom is clean and water pressure is good. We had nothing to complain about. The needed updates are happening as I write this review. Half of the building is being updated with AC and everything. Hopefully the rate will be still affordable when everything is done. Our dog loved the stay too. It's only $10 per night for a dog. read more

Not worth the money. It was a holiday weekend,I paid 355.85, ! I expected a kitchenette for that p price. No kitchenette! The towels were very thin, one being too thin to use after a shower. There wasn't any hair conditioner, and the dispensers for shampoo & body was were clogged up . Every time I pushed on it I got one drop. I could see it was full! We planned a weekend getaway for our one year... we were very underwhelmed especially for how much we paid. It doesn't seem like the room was even cleaned (I attached pictures, but need to zoom in) The front door was hard to close, there was only 5 squares of toilet paper, the floor had debris on it, the sink backs up, there was dust on everything (I realize dust builds fast) and our ocean view was blocked by a house. I wish I had looked at the ratings and reviews ahead of time. We made the best of it because it's our love we're celebrating. My review is to help people out, spend your money elsewhere. read more

We have now (almost) stayed here twice. We are leaving as I write. I did not write a review of our first stay and forgot that we had been here. When you look at the hotel online, they use a picture that makes it look like it is right on the beach. It is not. They charge a premium for ocean view rooms . I have attached a picture to show that, at best, it is an obstructed view of the ocean. You cannot actually see much ocean if you are not standing and even then see very little. The place is run down, and when we said we were not happy, their attitude was "we are not a high cost hotel," and "we are not responsible for the pictures the booking site uses." There is road and houses in between the hotel and the beach. The doors are rusted, interior paint is peeling, I could go on. They were nice enough to refund the room. We got the other room at a resort in Yachats for $10 less. This room had an ocean view as it was right on the beach. And this a big part of the problem, they simply charge too much for what you get. read more

I can tell it was recently updated, but not updated for what you'd want from a hotel. This place didn't even give me hand soap during a pandemic, and instead had deodorant sticks that looked like handsoap???? Wires hanging for a fire alarm that wasn't there. Cracked sink that was filled with some sort of calking that looked dirty as hell. Water in the shower went cold super quick. The guy at the desk said we had one of the best room. Staff was super nice at check in, but not the typical Newport stay you'd want for the price. Pay the extra $30-$50 to stay somewhere else if you want a getaway vacation. Again, staff was nice and pleasant, just the room should Have been a $90 room and not $150. read more

When we got here they didn't have the room we booked available and blamed it on Expedia (it may have been Expedia's fault so I didn't make a big stink about it at the time because we were only staying for one night.) The room is supposed to be non-smoking but this one smells like people smoke in it on a daily basis and now all our clothes smell. There was garbage on the floor beside the bed. When I went to complain, because I can't stand the smoke smell I basically got a shrug and a sorry. That's it, there's nothing they can do. Booked a room for my mom's 70th birthday. She wanted to wake up and see the waves. I made sure that the room was listed as ocean view instead of partial view. it was costs more but she is worth it. Upon opening the door I expected to be ocean. Instead I got to see the building across the street. I returned to the office to figure out if she might have possibly given us the wrong room. I explained that I hadn't booked a partial view room. She rudely said "just look over the roof and you can see the ocean." I could understand how she thought was the solution. read more

1. Repeatedly during showers the water went cold for a minute then came back. 2. I was told they just renovated. They should have put the shower head pipe higher than 5-1/2 feet tall. The shower head was just over 5 feet tall. My back does not appreciate crouching to wash my face and hair. 3. The only table was a tiny little table that was being used for the coffee machine. THERE WERE NO CHAIRS except big accent chairs. It was impossible to use my computer at the tiny table. 4. There were no folding luggage stand. We had to store our bags on the chair or the ground. 5. Their idea of a refrigerator / microwave cabinet is to stack a lamp and the microwave on the refrigerator. Every time I opened the refrigerator, the lamp almost fell over. 6. There was only one nightstand on one side of the bed. 7. I understand the, the laundry, pool and spa being closed but they could at least change the big sign out front advertising them. 8. I've stayed here 3 different times. Once two years ago and twice this summer. It wants to be Nye Beach Inn or Hallmark and charge those inflated prices. But it's an average motel. Rooms have been renovated and are a big improvement. Wood floors instead of carpets. Top floor rooms have ocean views. Our room, 237, doesn't have hangars, hooks or anything to put your luggage on. It's as if they didn't finish this room, white walls with nothing hanging, weird thrift store lamp & table. Plenty of hot water and good "free" WiFi. Every room has fridge & microwave. It's a great location. Close to Nye Beach with fun restaurants a short walk away. COVID conscious staff. I'll stay here again because it's always clean and I like the location. read more

TL;DR - It's not a BAD place, it's sub-par with a good view. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again. Would advise you to find a different place. (Not great) : This is a MOTEL, not a hotel. Once you realize that you'll realize that the photos of this place were taken in the daytime with some EXCELLENT lighting. This is not how the rooms look in real life. The lighting is not great when you're there. We got there and I said something to the owner about the room not being what I expected and she said that there were no other rooms. She asked me why exactly I think it's not what we expected, the only difference between the pictures online and the rooms is the lack of blue sash on the bed. Anyway, she said that it would be fine if I wanted to find somewhere else to stay. I said no, it's late, we'll be fine. It's Whale Watching season and I was assuming everywhere is full at 9pm at night. Note: The bathrooms are TINY, not comfortable to change in or get dry. the sink is outside the bathroom and that's not a bad thing, but the light in the sink area isn't great either. There is a hairdryer though, which is really convenient. (The better) the partial ocean view, was actually a partial ocean view. It was beautiful to wake up to. Props! Breakfast is less than sub-par. Some bagels and oatmeal. We did come at the end of breakfast time and there was almost nothing left. When we asked the owner where we could go for breakfast she said she did not know anything other than a local place (where everyone eats, but she's not a fan) and that the only other option is McDs. There were at LEAST 3 brunch/breakfast places within a 2 minute ride down the road. When we talked to the local cafe (Stephanie's Cafe, would highly recommend) about getting the Waves Hotel a menu for them, the server was SURE they already had one. So I'm not sure if the owner of the Waves hotel just isn't a fan, forgot about them or is really ignorant. (Worse): We forgot a charger in the room, when we called back the day after our stay the owner got extremely aggressive and rude about people forgetting things. Apparently we were the second person that day to call about forgetting something. The insolent tone and the curt words spoken were inappropriate and unacceptable. A slightly unrelated note, because it's not something the hotel could change, but it did smell like a sewer outside when we arrived (and all night). I imagine that's just Newport sometimes, but it just made everything that much worse. read more

I have been going to Waves Hotel in Newport Oregon since I was a child and never had an issue with them. I was excited to go, as I heard they were remodeled in the last couple yrs. I booked a reservation back in August and confirmed September 27th, which they did not have, even though I had the confirmation number. Day of arrival I call to see if we could get early check-in and was told 2 -2:30 pm and was given room # 342. On arrival our room number wasn't ready so they put us in room #230 , which I went and was surprised that it was occupied. 2nd room #229 wasn't fully serviced and the third room was the one we ended with, which we were told it was recently remodeled???? Was pretty nasty. Came back from a really nice dinner and was looking forward to hot tubbing, only to find out it wasn't heated and wasn't working, when at check in, was told it was. I wasn't happy at this time and complained to management to only be told to leave the office. Couldn't open the window as it was taped, mildew around the window seals and bathroom sink,and along some spots around the shower/bathtub. I was told it was normal for beach hotels! There was plaster on wall, some type of stain on wall, dirt in most of all corner floors, dark hair on bed and the list goes on. Pictures are provided. We checked out a day early and was surprised to get a credit back. This room was supposed to recently remodeled. Nothing like pictures on website. I get Covid and short staff, but this is just wrong. With Covid, it should of been extremely clean as stated on their website. read more

So bad. Very outdated, not clean and musty smell. It was a last minute trip and after paying close to $350 a night, we wish we would have stayed home! It was pure robbery. While we did have a view of the ocean, we could barely see out of the filthy, salt air grime on the windows. We recently spent 3 nights at The Wave. They are under new ownership and have a friendly staff, but their hands were basically tied, and we were left with a poor experience. 1. It took 4 phone calls to straighten out our reservation before arriving. 2. We had toilet problems the entire time. 3. The pool was freezing and the hot tub was lukewarm. 4. Stayed one night. Pool was booked before we even checked in so kids couldn't swim. The bathroom fan sounded like a monster, walls are thin, no coffee pot or chairs for sitting. If you don't know local channels have fun scrolling through to only find so many unavailable channels. Staff was there and check in and check out was quick. It's a bit of a walk to the beach. Curtains don't close all the way so people can see in as the window on the bottom level is street level. The sink is updated and nice. The bed was firm which was nice. Grab and go breakfast was good wish they offered like hard boiled eggs for a protein. Not worth the $130. If it was like $70 it would be worth it. read more

This motel did a great job of letting people know what to expect during their stay. We arrived to a clean room with all of listed amenities, so close to the beach, with adequate and easy parking. We enjoyed the pool and my kids appreciated the addition of pool toys for their use. Breakfast was Grab and Go with a few options- ample for complimentary- and we had plenty of towels, linens, etc. It isn't the Marriot, but it certainly never claimed to be. read more

This is absolutely a You-Get-What-You-Pay-For kind of situation. To start off they were fully booked so we were put on the first floor by the street (actually a bit below the street) with a semi ocean view and a direct view of everyone driving or walking by. The room we got wasn't super filthy but it was absolutely not super clean either. We asked to be switched but even tho everyone had not checked in yet they refused to switch our room. The first thing my child noticed was The bathroom door looked as if it had been punched from the inside and wouldn't shut all the way. There were no lamps in our room and it was very dark. We had other friends staying in other rooms at the same time and they had lamps but the front desk could not give us lamps or tell us why we did not have any lamps. One of the lightbulbs in the bathroom area was burned out but they also informed us that they could not change the lightbulb. We were given ONE full size towel for the room and were told they didn't have any more which was especially frustrating for our friends who are a family of four and also got one towel for their room. All of that was excusable, but what was not excusable, was being woken up at 9:30 in the morning by someone walking into our room as my daughter and I slept! I was LIVID! We had the hotel room for two days and it was only the first night so there is no reason for anyone to be coming into our room especially not at 9:30 in the morning. Which brings me to another safety concern there is no way to lock the door to prevent that from happening! There is no chain or extra lock! We also discovered the next morning that our windows were not only unlocked but also slightly opened! The windows that were directly beside the street! Luckily our room did not have the gross carpet I saw in some rooms or the dog pee smell that our friends room had but the floor was absolutely not very clean. There is a heated pool in a separate building that is quite cloudy and I would absolutely recommend showering afterwards asap but the kids had a blast and the hot tub was nice and hot on a cold winter day. The rooms do at least have a coffee maker(I didn't say it was clean), a shower for short people, decently comfy beds, a fridge & microwave & a TV. Would I stay here again? Absolutely! The price is unbeatable and the people that work there are doing their best with what they have (except for the woman who barged into our room). However, if you were going to stay here, I would absolutely recommend bringing plenty of towels, your own personal hotel door lock, a window bar or extra lock, probably your own bedding and some air fresheners or candles. Maybe a few lamps and probably a lightbulb or two. If your room isn't the top floor you may want to bring ear plugs and/or a sound machine as the walls are quite thin and it will sound like the people above you or the maid service first thing in the morning are coming through the ceilings and walls especially everytime they flush the toilet. read more

My husb and I stayed there for a full week and not once received room service even after asking for it. We had to take out our own trash and go physically go get fresh towels. Then we went to the pool and noticed that there were mouse droppings on the floor next to the jacuzzi tub. The room itself was okay but could have been cleaner. This is the ocean view I paid extra for! Family was staying there for four days so we all reserved our own rooms at the same place. The street lights glared in our room all night and there was not enough curtain fabric to cover the windows. Zero sleep all night. Paid for 3 nights but left early it was so terrible. Called the front desk and told the manager Paige I left but since I already paid, my son could stay in the room since he was sharing his room with someone else & would come by to pick up a key. She checked me out completely so when my son went down to the office 5 minutes later she told him someone else took my room??? WHAT??? She was offended and told me I was hostel on the phone!!!
