I had never gone for a bikini wax before, but I saw a Groupon for this place, so I thought, why not? The studio is only one room and is on the second floor of a building next to a hair salon. You are instructed to wait in the hair salon if you get there early. The woman who did the waxing is the owner of the studio. She was very nice and knowledgeable about waxing. She walked me through everything since I was new to bikini waxing. The waxing experience was not too painful and I felt as though she did a really good job. I've been pondering posting a review here for a while, but decided there was no time like the present (in the age of #MeToo) to express my discomfort at this salon in order to prevent others from experiencing the same thing. In Fall 2015, I came in for a Brazilian wax, having newly moved to Boston. I'd had many Brazilians before, and many elsewhere since (I recommend Leanne at Bliss at the W). I picked this place because the Yelp reviews looked good, but I really wish beforehand I'd come across a review like the one I'm about to leave. The waxer made me *very* uncomfortable -- less so during the wax itself, but more so in the lotion she applied to me afterwards. I was too shocked to speak up in the moment, but her hands repeatedly went places I have never ever had a waxer go, in places where no hair had been removed, and in a motion that no beauty treatment ever calls for. I don't know if anyone else who has visited this salon has experienced this, but I'd be shocked if it was just me. read more

I got a Living Social deal for this place, so I figured I would try it (I usually go to Skin and Body works in Davis Square, which is quite a trek for me). Making an appointment was super easy through e-mail. When I got to the studio for my appointment, I found that it is truly a studio--it's literally a tiny room, smaller than my own living room. So it was a little awkward when she asked me to strip (she left the room, but still weird knowing at someone could accidentally walk in at any time...) What the website doesn't tell you is that they use hard wax, which I have never used and probably wouldn't have bought this deal if I knew. The woman seemed to know what she was doing, but she was sloooow. What takes Skin and Body works 15, 20 minutes took her almost 30. She also didn't do a full Brazilian, in my opinion...she didn't get all the nooks and crannies, if you get my drift. But what she did get looks good. This is what really bothered me: her iPad facetime started ringing in the middle of my appointment (Uses an ipad instead of a comp). She didn't answer it, but it was still distracting. She also stopped for a moment to check herself out in the mirror. Lastly, the work phone rang, and while I understand it's business, she answered in during my wax. AWKWARD. When it was over, I got dressed (in front of her), handed her a tip, and left. She was nice enough, but I'm glad I got a deal--the normal Brazilian price is $70. Definitely going to make the journey to Priscilla at Skin and Body works. Better experience for only $45. UPDATE About an hour after I posted this review, I got a phone call from the studio, blasting me for my review, telling me I was disrespectful, negative, and overall a bad person. I deleted the message halfway through. While I understand you don't want the bad press, had I received a message or a phone call asking what you guys could do better, that would have been fine, welcome even (it's called customer service, people). The fact that you can't handle any type of criticism obviously means that you should be in a different business. What I wrote is my opinion, and mine only. You should take this as an opportunity to have a dialogue with your customers, and see how you can make your business even better. (or, encourage your regular customers to post reviews!) Let's just say, for the record, that getting my hoo-hoo waxed is not exactly the way I'd like to spend an afternoon. For those of you reading this review, you've likely been through one of your own and can sympathize. But. Let. Me. Tell. You. This was BY FAR the least painful Brazilian wax I have EVER had. EVER. I was shocked- because in my experience, they've all been pretty miserable. Not at The Waxing Studio. Not even the first pull. I honestly cannot believe some of the poor reviews here. My experience was so entirely different to what those reviews described, that I can only imagine that there must be a misunderstanding in those cases. I used Groupon twice, and did not have one issue at all in redeeming them or even getting a half-a$$ed job because I was a Groupon user. If you feel she "neglected" an area, speak up! Don't write a harsh review for the world to see when you didn't have the guts to ask for what you want! And you forgot your appointment? Yes, that is your fault. And no, they cannot make an exception for everyone. It's a business, for goodness sake. Put yourself in those shoes. It's called fine print for a reason. Read it. I know I do! I'm always on the lookout for deals for Brazilians, because yeah - they're expensive! So, I bought my LivingSocial a while ago and needed to get in before it expired. It was a little difficult booking my appointment because yes, it's just a single room. However, the experience was fantastic! It was by far the least painful Brazilian experience of my life because of the hard wax, which I didn't even know existed! As a seasoned (a much as I hate to do it) brazillian waxer, this place is the best Boston has to offer. I've actually been to a plaP(back of an Asian nail salon) where the waxer was laughing at me as I held back real tears! Meanwhile she was drawing blood from her poor technique. I was in serious pain and this idiot was really laughing! Needless to say I ended that wax immediately! Sure did...left one side bloody & bruised, the other side just as hairy as I walked in. Bygones. Enter LT*, met her at a get-together she was so impressed by her wax at The Waxing Studio she agreed to let me take a peek (judge not). Made an appointment, and I showed up ON TIME...This is key people! Proceeded to have a painful, but THE LEAST painful waxing of my life. She was professional, hygenic, and so very thorough. Owing to my multi ethnic background, my regionous hair is thick and coarse. Lyndon suggested I wax more regularly to thin out the hair to make waxing more tolerable. Took her advise. Lo and behold, it works. She gets every nook and cranny, and treats the skin after the wax. She is a bit pricy, I think after my tip its about 80-85 bucks, plus parking on Newbury... My technique is to have someone drop me off and swing the block a few times. There is a lot I've used across the street when I'm in a pinch, but it's close to 30 bucks! So I'm kind of surprised by the other reviews here -- i really liked this place!! Like the others, I used my Living Social which was awesome. The studio is super small, but really cute. Bright and sunny with cute decorations. ALSO she played music (not spa music -- like top 40s) the whole time. Maybe some people wouldn't be into that but i love love loved it. It is just one small room, I never felt like my privacy was compromised at all -- she has blinds and also a folding screen that she places in front of the door. As for Lyndyn herself, she was really nice/adorable/friendly!! Talked the entire time, which was distracting and welcomed. Clearly knows what she's doing, very thorough, very professional. I used a living social deal here, and I happily went back and paid full price for more visits before my wedding. Lyndyn was very nice, professional, and friendly, but she was also able to provide a quiet and peaceful atmosphere (as peaceful as you can get when someone is ripping hairs out of your nether-regions). I love the hard wax--much MUCH less pain, and even though the wax takes longer to harden, the whole process was actually quicker than waxes I've had at other places who use traditional wax and cloth strips. The space was clean and was decorated in a fun/modern/hip way, by Lyndyn herself. She did take a phone call during my first wax (only), but only while the wax was cooling, and I got the sense it was a very small operation. Anyone who would be offended by that has got quite the chip on their shoulder! Besides, everyone knows Yelp is the place to post your "constructive criticism" when you plan on going back to a business. As a freelancer, I can appreciate small business owners taking the time to be professional and courteous to me and to witness their professional courtesy to other customers. My favorite part of my visit, and the main reason I am posting on yelp to sing this woman's praises: I have been going to a place with very lovely women, but every wax left painful ingrown hairs and I felt incredible discomfort when I left the salon that lasted for hours if not days--red bumps are pretty much the opposite of sexy, and then by the time the bumps were gone, the hair had returned. Lyndyn told me that because of the way my hair grows, I should be waiting seven weeks between waxes! I did the math, and even with her more expensive rate (plus tip), I would actually save money by postponing my next wax by two weeks for the rest of the year. The best part? I rode my bike there and back from Somerville--afterwards, no red bumps, no discomfort, only a smooth, hair-free region that felt great. read more

This place had a living social and a groupon deal going almost at the same time so I bought both. So all these vouchers have me stuck going here for 4 visits. If you are looking for the wax that uses strips, which I find to be faster but way more painful, they do not use that here. They use the hard wax, which takes longer, but generally hurts less. Minimizing pain seems to be the main focus-- using baby powder to dry the skin, and pressure afterwards. One thing that I think Lyndyn does wrong is try to cover a huge area at once. It never gets everything out and ends up causing a lot of breakage of the hairs. It also makes you sweat, which is something she is constantly complaining about. She also blows on the wax before putting it on, which I find unprofessional and unsanitary. The studio itself is a little bit weird. You do get the feeling that someone could easily walk in on you, but she does put up a folding panel in front of the table and locks the door. They use paper (like at the doctor's office) instead of sheets on the table, so it's not the most comfortable to lay on. I do like the artwork she has up, but if you are looking for a spa experience, this is not it. It's bright and noisy, with talk/pop radio stations playing. I don't find the scheduling to be very convenient. I usually had to call a few weeks in advance to get a time that worked for me. One time I was running 5 minutes late and called to let her know, and she was very rude about it. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't go back to use the rest of my vouchers, but after that I don't think I will be back. read more

Just moved to the Boston area and need to find new...everything. I was all over yelp trying to find a place that sounded right and THIS IS IT. I got a same day appointment, which is great cause I never have time to plan for them :( The salon is a single room adjacent to a hair salon. It's small and "no frills" but thats just the way I like it...let's just get down to business. I read another reviewer say she felt a lack of privacy in the studio and while it seems that way when you get there, she makes sure the door is locked and a divider screen is put up behind it. I felt completely comfortable. Now for the actual service...I've been waxing for 10 years and this is definitely one of the better experiences I've had. Lyndyn was super friendly and fast, I was in and out in 20 minutes. She only uses the hard wax for sensitive areas which I like, makes sure to tweeze any strays and uses this great oil afterwards to make sure you're all clean! I have been to many, many different places in and around Boston area for waxing, including, but not limited to Lydia Borcau in Brookline Village, Skin and Body works in Davis, Escape Spa in downtown crossing, and Newbury Day Spa on Newbury Street in Boston. So, needless to say I have been searching for a great place. I too got the Groupon because I needed to get it done and Escape wasn't cutting it anymore. I got to Lynden and she was super nice, first of all. I showed up about 30 minutes early, and fortunately she didn't have anyone waiting so asked me to come on in rather than make me wait until my appointment time. I agree with what someone else said in that this was absolutely the LEAST painful wax I have ever gotten - hands down!!! She uses a combination of hard wax and the strips, although I forgot to ask last time why she would use the strips sometimes and not always. She was uber-clean and thorough and gave me a great tip for getting rid of the occasional in grown which has really helped! For all those reviews that say she doesn't "get it all... if you know what I mean" you have to SPEAK UP and say that is what you are looking for. Imagine how awkward/uncomfortable/embarrassing it would be if you didn't want it "ALL" done and she went ahead with the assumption you did!! In my case she did ask if I wanted it all done so I said yes, but had she not asked I would most definitely had spoken up and said something, as I have had to do before. read more

Cute and simple, the waxing studio is a small waxing place situated on the second floor above shops on newbury street. This is the first place I had my first brazillian wax and the only place I go for waxes now. Lyndon is really is really friendly and tells you to hold your skin taunt to minimize the pain. She's also really great with brows, the shape is impeccable when she does it. While 30 dollars for brows is a little pricey, it's definitely worth it. I've tried brow waxes at other and they paled in comparison. Lyndon really takes the time to pluck and trim to the perfect brow shape after waxing. read more

However the woman on the phone was so rude and aggressive, I am going to chalk it up as a loss and pay full price for a wax somewhere else. I was basically yelled at with the conversation along the lines of "girls are coming in all the time without enough hair growth, making my job difficult". The woman's tone was extremely rude and made me nervous about the impending appointment. Can't believe that's how new customers are treated, couldn't imaging actually going there. I really hate to leave a bad review but need to tell you. It's your face and body. Important. I got my lips waxed and it was terrible. My skin is not sensitive at all and I've never experienced that burning feeling or irritation after waxing. So I felt really weird this time but couldn't see what happened, cause she put lots of vaselline on my whole lip area. As this wasn't my first wax with her, I just trusted her and came back home. BUT I found she waxed NOT MY HAIR near lips but my upper LIP!!! My upper lip, especially left side which is right side on the photo, got bigger in a weird shape, needless to say super painful and red. Instead, the hairs near my nose and right next to my lips are still there. I can say, she waxed MY LIPS and 4/5 of MY LIP HAIRS. Now I understand why she didn't say much after waxing or see me in the eyes. She just stopped waxing, although usually she waxed lips 2-3 times and looked into residues. I am so upset about both this careless waxing and her attitude. If you are a professional, you should know how to admit your fault, say SORRY, and fix the problem right away. Then, I wouldn't have been upset and writing this review. I liked her not painful at all brazillian waxing, but realized perfection is more important when it comes to my body. I kind of tried to ignore her imperfection previously--actually there were always hairs on lips or my bodies saying "Hello! I am still here! Your waxer didn't kill me", but this crossed the line. So i used a groupon for the first time at this place recently and while Lyndyn is a good waxer,she doesn't do a FULL brazilian if you know what i mean. She neglects the back area which i find quite disappointing. I am used to having these all the time and i like my entire area clean. Don't know if it;s because i used a groupon or what but i think you should still do a proper job if you want people to come back to you. She is good after all but i am not prepared to pay full price for a half a** job hence i will not be returning. I think she is quite pricey without a voucher too! After finding out my typical waxer was on vacation, I decided to try The Waxing Studio after consulting Yelp. I did not have the best experience and this was by no means the best brazilian I have received. It got off to a bad start, she was 25 minutes late for my appointment. I arrived a little early and waited in the hair salon next door. The setup is strange, as many people have mentioned. The hair salon seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the Waxing Studio. No one greeted me and there was no receptionist to let me know Lyndon was running behind or give me a estimated wait time. I have been receiving full brazilian waxes for about a year, front and back. Overall this wasn't a horrid experience- the room is clean, she is a nice woman and she did take her time to tweeze any stubborn strays. However, I didn't really like her technique. I was asked to help pull my skin taught for the top sections, which I have never been asked to do at any other salon. For the back section she had me completely roll over onto my stomach, spread my butt cheeks- and to make matters even more uncomfortable she blew on the wax to help it cool quicker! That was by far the most awkward way any waxer has ever waxed that area!! I'm used to hugging my knees into my chest, it's quick, efficient and way less awkward. She charged $70, which is pricier than the $60 pay at my usual Financial District salon. She also left me with two bruises, one on each inner thigh. Overall my experience was just okay. She got the job done, but I will not be returning. read more

I cashed in on my Livingsocial voucher today and had as "positive" of an experience that anyone could have getting their hooha waxed. Although I have been waxed many times, at many different places, I have never had hard wax used on me. While it does take longer than the traditional wax (the wax needs to cool before it is removed), it is so much LESS PAINFUL! Lyndyn was gentle, friendly, and thorough. The space itself is small, which can make it a bit awkward when Lyndyn steps back into the room, after you undress. Also, there's no space for anyone to wait so my boyfriend had to take a stroll outside. Nonetheless the space is very CLEAN and cute. This place is worth revisiting. read more
