This place was awesome. We came here on a Sunday in the early afternoon and the place was quite empty. Especially in comparison to the to place next door. Don't let that scare you away! The drinks were fantastic and reasonably priced for the area, about 10 dollars each.The atmosphere here is very unique. Knowledgeable and friendly staff and a welcoming feel. Inside is an old school bar feel and the back patio is great. They have an old school bus converted to a bar, vintage patio furniture and picnic benches. Came for brunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed the great package deal! The breakfast nachos were EVERYTHING I wanted for a hangover brunch. The queso, the chorizo, the perfect amount of spice. I regularly go to The Vig and The Whale, I had my birthday at The Vig and genuinely enjoyed it. I really wanted to enjoy this place, bartenders, drinks, prices and all service was great besides the DJ. So happy this place made it through COVID. Great concept. Super fun vibe. Lawn chairs, tv trays, koozies, specialty drinks. GREAT atmosphere and REALLY friendly, sincere staff. Food was wonderful. The outdoor area here is the perfect outdoor area all year round, plus the bar bus out back is awesome. The smoothies are secretly strong and absolutely delicious. Love this place! So friendly, quirky, and the drinks are killer. My husband and I went for a summer's eve dinner and cocktail-o-rama (lots of cocktails) and this place delivers. Walk on the wild side through the restaurant to the back garden and my friend, you are among friends. Seriously, everyone we met, guests and staff were super chill and so fun! It was a busy evening and the kitchen ran short of some of the the essentials ( it happens), the owner came to our table, explained the situation and made sure our experience was fabulous. A great vibe with good music! The staff is super friendly and the drink prices are very reasonable. The patio is decorated like a back yard with lawn chairs and tv tables with an old vintage bus serving you cocktails. The inside has that 70's feel from vintage chairs to even the drinking glasses. I've been here three times in the past week. Don't judge. I'm writing this because I am very impressed with the staff, and how wonderful this bar is. From the busboy, the bartenders, the manager, the bouncer, to the bartenders every single one of them is genuinely nice. The outside is super cute and the inside is great too. This is probably the friendliest bar in Chicago! While waiting for friends to get dinner nearby on an early Friday night, I looked for a place to get a couple rounds of drinks and am glad I walked into the Welcome Back. It's got a cool, mid century design ambiance and the friendliest group of people working there. Drinks were awesome, which I enjoyed inside, but they also have a back patio. Some food I didn't get to try, mostly bar type food, although it'd be nice if they offered more healthy options on the food menu. I'm excited to come back to the Welcome Back next time I'm in the area as this is the type of bar which really nailed the concept and I could see being around for decades!!! read more

I've been here a few times for drinks and it is a cute spot to check out. The music is generally pretty good. The service is amazing and has always been so kind. I've never tried the food but the drinks are just okay. Unfortunately do not recommend the frozen drinks they have. However I'd return for the ambiance and great service. read more

If I could give it a zero I would . Went on 3/09/2022 around 1030. Cooks and crowd were very nice. Has a great vibe. Went to get drinks for my friends. White bartender lady was rude. Gave an attitude for no reason. Had no sense of hospitality nor customer service skills. Assuming she was in a bad mood I brushed it off. While she was charging me she snatched the money out my hand and threw my change back at us. Mid pouring our shots she requested a tip. I told her I'd tip her if she wasn't so rude and still refrained from pouring our drinks. Over all bad experience just because of the bartender alone. read more

This place is adorable, especially ouside. It's a very laid back feel, and that carries over many ways, so just know that going in. The back is medium-sized outdoor seating with turf, lawn chairs, and half the tables are just folding tv trays. It works though. Again, laid back. The outdoor bar is out of a repurposed van, the bartender super friendly, all drinks ordered at the bar. However all drafts have to be ordered from inside. The food is also a separate window inside. So ya, you may get in a few steps back and forth. It was a hot day and I appreciated there are outdoor umbrellas, but at least at the hour we went there was good shade from the other buildings. Only had the seasoned tator tots, which took a little getting used to with the queso dip, but luckily it was on the side. The tator tots themselves were delicious. This place is cool. It's a fake dive bar so your mileage may vary. They make the type of food you would want from a fake dive bar (ALL FRIED SHIT) which is mostly why i like it. I can tolerate the eye roll worthy irony of going to a fake dive bar when you can just go to any number of real ones in the area if they have good food. The one thing i would really like is a beer + shot special. this is a staple of all fake dive bars across the country and i don't think this place can be an authentic fake dive bar until they get one. they don't even have to make it cheap, just get one!!!! read more

Had an awesome first time experience here. My group of 3 walked in on a busy Friday night to get patio drinks. The floor manager immediately greeted us, gave us a tour of the space and put us on the waiting list for the back patio while we took a table inside by the window. We got seated in the back patio within 20 minutes! Everything is super socially distanced, sanitized everywhere and everything was super clean. The drinks were amazing and very reasonably priced. I'd been there before and really wanted to return and bring friends, unfortunately 1- it was pouring rain that day so all business was indoors in a small area and 2- there was a big game happening so the level of noise was such we had to leave.
