I can't say enough about this place. The first night we went, my love and I looked at each other and said "this is our new bar." Stumbling distance from home, we found a dozen harder-to-find rotating taps, and a knowledgable staff who make some mean cocktails. The vibe is warm and friendly with bicycle wallpaper and red candles setting the scene. One of the owners chatted with us and other locals at the bar and we never felt rushed or condescended, just at home. The patio is small, but well-done. You wouldn't know you were steps away from a busy intersection across from a gas station by looking out the window. And! They are dog-friendly. Of course they are. You'd be crazy not to in Austin. I wish I lived around the corner from this place so that it could be my Cheers bar. I stopped by with my husband after dinner and we were greeted amazingly by Dario and Joe (I THINK his name was Joe. I'm so sorry if I botched that!) they directed us to their custom cocktail menu, took our names, shook our hands and were so delightful. 45's playing in the background with fresh flowers and candles on the high tops. Well we didn't even have a beer there yet because it was so late and they hadn't even officially opened the place. I think we should get some credit for being the first ones that were thrown out. Actually, Aaron and Adam were real nice about it and first gave us a bit of a tour. They only showed us the door because they were going home for the day. Cool place, good beer selection, specialty drinks, patio with fountain. Open till 2 every night as compared to anyplace on Manor. This place will bring some new life to this corner along with Juiceland and The Austin Daily Press, which means you can bring your sandwiches from next door. I moved to the neighborhood just over a year ago. And this has definitely been my neighborhood bar. The staff is always super friendly and easy to converse with. And they are on top of clearing finished drinks so you have a clean table to hang at. It's pretty small but I've always been able to find a place to sit. I like it because even when it's busy it still feels chill and not overly packed. Oh! And the bathrooms are clean! They always have a whiskey special going on if that's your thing and the drinks are reasonably priced. Their variety is all across the spectrum from miller lite to fancy cocktails. It's kinda tucked away in the corner of the strip parking lot which to me makes it feel more intimate. You wouldn't see it from the street necessarily, so it draws neighborhood locals and regulars. A big factor of me choosing this place while deciding where to go with friends is the parking. Perhaps with age I don't care to pay for parking and deal with the stress of finding a spot all just for a small gathering with friends to catch up over a few drinks. I have always been able to find parking in the parking lot. Big perk for me! I've had so many awesome moments and memories with friends here. Keep doing what y'all are doing! I guess I just don't get it. There seems to be a bike theme for no particular reason. It certainly can't be to lure bicycle riders there. We happened to be riding by and noticed this new bar and decided to try it out. The bicycle rack provided is a miserable composition that is almost rendered useless on one side by being jammed up against a piece of parking lot blocker. The beer tap selection feels like it was curated by a out-of-town beer distributor. No pale ales, one Texas beer. Can't understand the previous reviews that rave about the beer selection. Everything about this place is on point. Strong old man whiskey cocktails, bike tools, great food from the trailer across the parking lot and moon tower views. It may be relatively new but it's a classic in the making. All the bartenders make fantastic manhattans & always have interesting dealer's choice ideas - I like to ask the experts what they like and do best & nothing I've tried at The Wheel has ever been a let down. Indy in particular (lady bartender with awesome mermaid arm tattoo) makes the most delicious sazerac I've ever tasted. It's like a soft lemony burst of flavor crystals co-mingled with whiskey, I don't even know how to describe it. Just find her and order one! Interesting location and decor with the outdoor patio; however, I wasn't that much of a fan of the two cocktails I tried. They didn't seem very well balanced. I'm not sure if I'd come back for a cocktail here as there are other locations around town that mix up better drinks, but it does seem like a nice hangout spot for groups of friends. read more

The Wheel hosted Environment Texas' annual holiday party. It went great! We are a local nonprofit, and the place was the perfect mix of upscale and casual for our mix of politicians and members. We fit about 35 people, a band, a table for food, and a raffle in after anticipating it would take over the patio area. Ayron was easy to work with and flexible about many of our needs.
