Pretty happy I checked out this place when I was in Topeka. Is it kind of like a lot of other Hipster places in the world...yeah. Is it way different than most of what I have seen in Topeka...very much so. A very nice, maybe 10 taps if you like beer. The bartender was super knowledge and friendly. I had their special sandwich, The Steakhouse, which was pretty out of control good. The chips which came with it were top notch as well. Decent food but felt like more of a bar than a place to really eat. I sat at the bar. The bartender seemed to know many of those there. Must be regulars. They got a lot of attention. Me? Not as much. I suppose as long as the regulars can support the place go for it. I had the hangover and it was tasty but I felt the cheddar overpowered the smoked Gouda. Couldn't taste it. I have been meaning to try this place for a while! It was late morning, but it was super dark in the restaurant. The bulbs were cool, but I watched someone take out their phone flashlight in order to read the menu. We got a classic grilled cheese and a jalapeño popper. The classic cheese was WAY too much cheese, so I'm glad I didn't get that one. The jalapeño popper sandwich was amazing. I took half home and it was just as good. I even had it on gluten free bread, which is usually gross! The homemade chips were awesome. For sure want to go back and try more. read more

Topeka needed a place like this. Very eclectic. The food is amazing. My favorite is the Tree Hugger. On Sundays, the have a limited menu, but this made me try something different. The Ann Boleyn is superb. Lunch here costs about the same as lunch at Subway and yet this food is gourmet. The staff is great. They make you feel at home. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Topeka. The service is always very friendly and quick, even substantially present when busy and during warmer weather, the back patio is a nice fresh air place to eat. The appearance on the back patio could be better and would suggest putting something up to keep some of the flies away at times, but nevertheless, super homey feel. The sandwiches are always absolutely amazing. They have seasonal specials which I try every time and have not once been disappointed. Everything is fresh and the combinations are savory and delightful. The beer is reasonably priced and have a very good selection with great taste. The coffee is great as well. Atmosphere is calm but can get a bit loud if it is crowded. They also have board games if you want something to do at your table while you wait/eat your food. Man, those sandwiches were GOOD. I had The Pilgrim (seasonal menu), but on multigrain instead of white. It was basically a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich served with a side of gravy. Delicious. I wonder if I'd like it even better if it were in the sweeter side... maybe with cranberry jelly and no cheese? But I trust the chef knows better. My date had a Tree Hugger, one of the many vegetarian options, and a side of tomato bisque. He loved the sandwich but wasn't a fan of the soup. I guess we expected the bisque to be on the creamier side, so we were surprised it was more like what we'd call "tomato soup." Went here for lunch and got The Mafia. So good! I love a good sandwich and the balance was just right. It was warm and the sauce on it was great. The chips were a highlight for me! My wife, daughter, and myself recently ate here one evening. Overall I thought the quality of the food was good and the service was friendly and professional as well. We began our meal with the soft pretzel appetizer. It was soft, baked well, and tasted good. It came with a small bowl of queso for dipping at a cost of $6. Our sandwiches were The Olga ($10), The Tree Hugger ($9), and the Mafia ($10). The Olga is basically a reuben. Served on marble rye bread it has both swiss and smoked gouda chesse along with corned beef and sauerkraut. The Tree Hugger is a vegetarian sandwich. It has sauteed portabella mushrooms, mozzarella and smoked gouda cheese, and some greens on it. The Mafia comes with mozzarella cheese, shaved prosciutto, salami, and sauteed red peppers. All the sandwiches are served with a decent portion of what seems to be housemade kettle chips. Maybe I am just a tightwad but my only complaint was the price. We had the pretzle appetizer, three sandwiches, one beer, and gave a modest tip. The bill for three people came to $50. Seems pricey to me. The sandwiches were good but it is not like they were footlongs. Just normal sized sandwich bread. Instead of a $10 sandwich something more like $7 would be appropriate. The price knocks my review down to 3 stars. Overall good tasting sandwiches, good service, and decent atmosphere. Just cost too dang much. Afterall, it is just a sandwich with some chips. read more

Found this cool spot while headed North driving through Topeka. It's not a terribly large place, but a cool ambience and we found a table quickly. Since we were on the road and had hours more of driving, neither my wife or I had a beer, but the selection looked great. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she offered up the French Dip since it was seasonal. It was delicious. My wife ordered the Jalapeño Popper and it was even better. I would absolutely visit this place again. Hopefully while we're staying the night so I can top off the meal with a couple of drinks. read more

From the moment I heard about this place, I knew that I needed to go. I am a lover of sandwiches and beer, so this seemed like the perfect spot! I went with a couple of co-workers after work one afternoon, and it did not disappoint. The place itself is in a neat side of town, is low-key and the place has a great vibe. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and the menu made it hard to pick just one sandwich to enjoy (one of our table actually ordered 2 for this reason!) I got the Jalapeno Popper sandwich. The heat was there, but not overwhelming. The cream cheese was soft and almost melted, which was great. There was a small amount of a sweet sauce that complimented the flavors and heat like a dream. It was not nearly as messy as I was anticipating, and the chips that went along side it were great as well. I ate half of my meal there, along with a Blue Moon (I didn't have a full beer list, or I'd have gone for something local or on tap), and the other half made it about halfway home. I ate the rest on the highway driving back to Lawrence. It didn't even make it to the county line. It never even had a chance. I don't venture out into Topeka often, but I sure am glad that I tried out the Wheel Barrel. I may even make a Saturday trip to try out the Monte Cristo (which I just couldn't bring myself to order without a morning mimosa). Definitely give this place a try! read more

Such a fun new place in NOTO to have lunch, dinner and or a craft beer. The decor is very modern. They've renovated it to perfection. There is a nice selection of sandwiches to try as well as some other yummy options. The pretzel woth beer cheese was so good. I had a Not yo mama's BLT and a side of tomato soup, both were delish. The sandwiches are large and well worth the price. They are still working out time issues and there was a little bit of a wait but well worth it. YUMMO! Just went to lunch with a group from our office and everything was delish. It's COLD outside, so the back patio was not an option and seating for 6 was a bit of a challenge. Pretzels were warm and tasty but came out after 1/2 the group was served their meals. Tomato bisque was perfect and paired with 1/2 a sandwich this ended up being just the right amount of food for me. The group opted to skip desert because we were all pleasantly full. OK, this place is great. They have the best grilled cheese I've ever had. They have really cool theme oriented sandwiches thrown in with the regular menu items. The tomato soup is also the best I've ever had. The only down side in my opinion is that it's kind of cold in there so dress like you are eating outside.
