I've been here many times, it's always a great time. I even bring people that have never been and they always love it!! The burgers are divine and the the other food is really good too! First of all -- I'm suuuuper appreciative of the vegetarian/vegan options here. I just moved to Newburgh and it hasn't been as easy to find out here as it is in other cities I've lived. I tried the Shepherd's Pie and it was super comforting! I'd definitely get this again if I go back. The chili is advertised as sweet and spicy and that's exactly what it is. In my opinion, too sweet, and I wasn't interested in finishing it. But if that's what you're looking for in chili - go for it! It wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. I'll preface this by saying we've been going to The Wherehouse since they opened 10ish years ago. After tonight, I can say our time going to The Wherehouse has come to an end. The service and quality of food has declined significantly over the last year or so. First, my husband ordered a Corona Light (on tap) & I ordered a Mill House Cream Ale, also on tap... Both out. He decided on a Corona bottle instead & I got a Mill House Cucumber beer.. Entrees came out.. I ordered the falafel burger & immediately noticed I hadn't received the tzatziki it should've come with, no big deal, I asked for it.. His cheese steak was slathered in liquid nacho cheese and steamed onions (not caramelized, as the menu said). I received my tzatziki shortly after which was disappointingly and obviously cream cheese based, versus the traditional yogurt-based. No biggie, except I really didn't want veggie cream cheese on my falafel burger. My husband got halfway through his cheese steak when there was suddenly a rancid smell, strong enough for me to notice from across the table. I watched the look on his face change and he spit out his last bite and said the last bite of meat was rotten. He is C.I.A. alumni.. The guy knows rotten steak when it's in front of him. He immediately walked it over to our waiter across the bar. From there, I watched our waiter (short guy) walk it over to another waiter/bartender (heavier Hispanic/maybe islander - Miguel, I believe?). The shorter guy came over to us and said he would take my husband's meal off the bill. A few minutes later Miguel hands us the bill and says "I took 10% off." Assuming he meant my husband's meal AND 10% we handed him our credit card. After he charged my card I looked at the receipt and he ONLY took $5 off. $5 off a $16 meal that contained rotten steak. Two words - absolutely disgraceful. We will never be back. And for the record when I mentioned the disappointing tzatziki after closing out the bill Miguel said it comes "in a tub." read more

I was visiting friends in the Newburgh, NY area and my buddy had been raving about this particular burger joint for many months so we opted to go there for lunch on the Saturday of my visit. As other folks have lined out the outside of the restaurant does not look all that enticing, but don't let that sway you. Its the inside and the good eats that count the most. As you walk in you see a sizable bar to the left and there are numerous types of bottled beer and some interesting choices on tap as well. I don't remember the pint that I had but it was a wonderful summery brew that had a hint of lemon to it and it was very refreshing on the hot summer day. Food wise I kept my burger selection simple at a bacon cheeseburger but I did ask for pepper jack cheese on it. It came with some seriously thick french fries but there could have been more of them with the platter I ordered. It was also suggested that I try a sample of their chili and being a fan of the stuff I said what the heck and did. Very tasty blend for sure and its not easy to impress me with this concoction. My dining companions had a mesquite burger and a kobe beef burger between them along with a heaping plate of their macaroni and cheese. I sampled this as well and it was very tasty. Our waiter was also very helpful in suggesting things we might like based on his own experience. Thanks dude, it was appreciated. The Ambience: If you are like me and a fan of that which is Rock and Roll then you will love the decor of this place. There are albums and posters EVERYWHERE you look and there are so many vintage things your head will spin. I am not sure that these are original posters or just replicas but either way they are so awesome to see. There is also a back room with a small stage that bands perform on. I guess a classic Rock act from the region can make a name for themselves and grab an amazing burger between sets. Will I come back? Oh for sure. I just need to make sure that I keep active right after it to not show a love of burgers on the gut. Stopped here on the way to our place in Saugerties. Reviews were good so we tried it! Had the burgers which were deliciously char-grilled and hot. The fries were good, but need to be crispier. The beers were cold and tasty. Our server was a chill dude with a ski cap who was quick to serve and deliver efficiently. Cool vibe with a variety of different clientele. The bartender was very patient with the family who seemed to require a lot of soda after the young boy spilled his. Spill cleaned without a fuss. I'm not from the area so my gf and I came in for a burger by the recommendation of a friend and boy was I glad they suggestion this place. Everything was so good. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it was the best burger I've had in a while. The fries are excellent as well. They have to be freshly cut and fried in the back. They still had the skin on them and it was perfectly salted. They were so good, I didn't even end up dipping them. They were great as is. That's never happened to me before. Stopped in as a recommendation by the locals and was very underwhelmed. Ordered the Spinach Artichoke dip as an app and it was very watery and bland. This is a super cool and hip local restaurant with unique and well thought out dishes. The decor is great with a really unique rock n' roll kind of ambience. They occasionally do live music that is....loud..and that's about all I have to say about the live music. I have felt a little uncomfortable walking in and out of this place late at night. The area can get sketch from time to time so if you're a girl stick to the buddy system. The biggest drawback for me is I always have to wait an unusually long time for a meal. Their pub food is pretty quick so if you're visiting the bar and want to listen to some loud music and eat fried food in a cool setting then this, my friend, is your place. Heard about this place listening to an old episode of The Hudson Valley Squares. Had to check it out for myself. Glad we did. First the staff was warm and friendly and you could tell they loved working there. Met the owners and you could see why they did. I had read about the burgers and they were fantastic. Ordered the Blu Pig Burger!!!! Blu Cheese onion rings and bacon topping a tasty burger. Great selection of beer on tap and in bottles as well. Want to go back and check out some of the sandwiches and other items on the varied menu. The place is small with a great hodgepodge of decorations, mainly music and pop culture themed. Apparently on Sundays, the waiter acts as the server for the whole place. And if you happen to come in on THAT SUNDAY where the place is full, you end up getting your own menus, utensils, and go up to the bar to help the poor bartender, who's running the place all by himself, to get your own drinks. Burgers are still good, they have the biggest menu for themed burgers, 98 by my count, plus turkey and veggie burgers. This place saved our weekend! Cool, funky vibe with friendly and attentive owners. We stopped here on our way back from Poughkeepsie and a horrible dinner the previous night at the Culinary Institute. I told one of the owners I was grouchy and needed a drink and could he recommend a fun drink? He came back with a delicious peach margarita!! Fun guy. I love this place. I'm from buffalo, and the one thing buffalo has is good bars. It seems simple but there are so few in this area. The Wherehouse is a hipster bar for sure. People with tattoos, artists, bikers, cool peeps and anyone with a good attitude will be welcomed. They have great beer. They also have specialty beers that rotate on a schedule. Upon coming in, we decided to seat ourselves and it only took a few minutes for the waitress to come over and greet us. A friend and I ordered the Vegan Marsala with a side of french fries. It took about a half hour for the food to come and it really wasn't all that great. The potatoes were interestingly cut in discs, but were awfully greasy and had barely any flavor. The Marsala was OKAY, but I felt the sauce was way too heavy and the vegetables were kind of bland. All of this and one soda brought us to just over 20 bucks. Not bad, but given the quality and service, I won't come here again. I will say that the waitress was friendly, but everything seemed very slow.
