Epic beer selection! There are a couple of bars in the area that have a few of craft beer taps but it's mainly Four Peaks and Lagunitas. So when I heard there was a new Whining Pig in Gilbert, I got super excited! One of my favorite low key spots in the east valley! The beer selection is seriously epic, they have a ton of unique board games, and the beertenders are experts who provide amazing service. More on that epic beer list...I've never seen a place that has so many rare, limited, and hard-to-find beers. Last night we tried a Founders CBS on NITRO....That basically doesn't even exist anywhere else! Mind blown. I highly recommend the brown bag specials to try some new beers! We usually start with one of those and then study the expansive menu while we sip it, deciding on beer number two. Went in on a Saturday night on a friend's recommendation and the place was packed. It's a very small venue; it's basically just the bar with stools around it and one of those narrow drink-sized (maybe 6 inches?) counter framing the walls with stools alongside that. All seats were taken when I arrived, but we were able to snag some within a few minutes. I only had one bartender serving me and he was great, though there were three behind the counter and all seemed to be friendly and moving fast. It's a relaxed bar with a neighborhood feel. Good vibe. Nice people. I just wish it was bigger. As for the "hoptions," yeah... there is a ton. I prefer ciders and fruitier drinks. The bartender helped narrow down the options and I was happiest with a peach something-or-other. Also shared a meat/ cheese tray and grilled cheese. All good. It was loud, but not so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. There are lots of games. We went with Battleship and then Scrabble. Will definitely go again. read more

Yes!!!!! This is my go-to place to get a drink on the weekend and it's so close to my house! This bar has a great rustic feel to it, and is so tucked away in the corner of the Kohl's complex that I didn't even know it existed until someone told me about it. I absolutely love their drink selections! If you are into IPAs and Stouts, this place will definitely satisfy your drinking needs. Their drink selection is displayed on a huge chalkboard in the back where it's beautifully color coordinated to show you their stouts, ales, IPAs, etc. oh they also have wines too if you're into that stuff. Overall the best thing was the service. The bartenders really are pretty chill! I went first with my wife and told the bartender that we'd be coming more often now, and the next time we came in, he actually remembered both our names! Pretty cool and pretty genuine. Also if you get a chance to munch on a little snack, they have amazing homemade grilled cheeses! I got the pesto and sundried tomato one, and it was awesome! We also got a meat and cheese board which was fun to share with friends, and when we ran out of crackers and still have a lot of meats and cheeses left, our bartender literally gave us a huge amount of extra crackers! Such nice service! Tips 1) Try a grilled cheese sandwich but don't come starving. I am an IPA guy and they had many draught (31 total about 8-10 IPA) and bottle choices. Last but most important was the service and atmosphere. Aidan explained the concept and the different types of beers. However, everyone we talked to was very helpful and very friendly. Plus we met some very nice people (Jackie and Sean) at the bar. It's always a pleasure coming to this location, we love the staff and the environment they create. This was the first location that we had gone to once we moved to AZ, and we always try to come back when we can. The way the staff connects with you is so personable and caring that you really feel apart of the family. The bar is always clean and well kept. I will say the games are missing pieces and are kind of old but we still play them. I mean, c'mon how rad is that? We love the rotations that they have and everyone has great suggestions. We came here on NYE and had a blast with everyone that was there, and the complimentary champagne at midnight which of course I spilt as soon as roasting. Was this the reason that we were TOTALLY ignored by the servers? We were also 'encouraged' to leave because of the food. Whining Pig has a very limited food menu of meat/cheese boards and grilled cheese. We knew that in advance and were looking forward to grilled cheese. But we looked around the place: every seat taken at dinner time, but only one person eating. She was eating take out sushi at the bar, chopsticks and all. After 12 minutes of being regarded as invisible by the servers, shouting to converse over the blaring music, and hesitation about the food, we gave up and went elsewhere. This place is different than any place we have gone to before. It is very small. it is not a sports bar. They have games you can play by yourself or with others. They have a huge menu for beer and wine. They do have beer on tap. There is music playing and people draw or write messages on the wall. The bar top is made out of pennies'. Their food is limited to grilled cheese sandwiches. We had the ham and cheese, nothing fancy, but it was a good grilled ham and cheese sandwich. And they come with Ruffles potato chips, they also have brownies. Dan, who is the owner or manager can answer any questions you have, he is very knowledgeable about their product.
