I like this place for after work drinks and socializing!! The bar itself is very cozy and dimly lit, and the bartenders and employees are very nice and experienced in customer satisfaction!! My 23 year old friend's ID was 2 days expired and they refused to let her in even though she has 2 other forms of ID with her picture and name and multiple credit cards.... What's not to love about a bar that serves bowls of meatballs and bowls of bacon? The Whiskey has always been a surefire stop for me, as it's as comfy a hang as a pair of wool socks and granny panties in January. It's huge with plenty of seating, has a fantastic bill of fare to satiate any American appetite, and enough whiskey to bring Truman Capote back from his grave for a quick posthumous nightcap. It's one of the few Brooklyn Bars that opens its arms to sports fans and mustache-waxed neighborhood residents alike, so no matter your mood, there's most certainly something to tickle your fancy. Though I've never used it, I dig the cigarette machine in the front of the bar. Williamsburg has got notoriety for NOT having a lot of "Frat Boy" type of spots. They're more relaxed where you can chill out, have a great time and not deal with douchebags or awful crowds....... Then comes The Whiskey Brooklyn. I've been here a few times over the years, once recently. It's the same each time. I don't see what the hype is. Spicy backs? It's still pickle juice! And I don't need it anywhere near my whiskey! As for the place itself, it looks really nice. The waitresses are great and the bartenders were awesome. That's where the positive ends. My issues kind of go hand in hand. This place is located near a bunch of awesome Williamsburg establishments that may attract some douchebags. Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Bowl, which are all in a super close radius. Those places though you don't have to be be on top of people you don't really care for however. Here it's packed, it's hot and you are right next to that awful crowd. As a result, they have to hire a security staff who is usually not to friendly. Granted, they are doing their job. I have no issues with bouncers or doormen. Recently when I came with a group they denied my friend. He wasn't even drunk, but because they are told to not be friendly, they weren't so nice to my friend. On his birthday no less. Also, because of the clientele they serve some pretty awful beer. If you want to relive the horrors of a college bar, Whiskey Brooklyn might be your spot. read more

*Just like someone once said, Makers Mark even takes down even some of the most veteran yelp drinkers". You can kind of ignore the 3 star rating but yeah it was a spot to go after the YEE. I think it seemed nice, i like the dark atmosphere downstairs. It was a decent crowd for an after party as well. Apparently more people are catching on this, it is not such a secret anymore. I needed water as soon as I got here and that is what I got. Water after water also a shot of something I guess it was Whiskey. At that point I was wasted, blasted, busted just not ready to go home. I woke up though real fast after walking around the place for a bit and texting random people that I am near the shuffleboard area. I didn't get to keep my eyes open on events in front of me in the night like who were the two most unlikely yelpers to be caught making out here at afterparty, lol. The walk to the train station all the way to Graham Ave really hit the spot too after everything was said and done. The Whiskey Brooklyn is an interesting enough place to have a drink, but it can get a bit busy on the weekend. I really loved the layout with a central, 4-sided square bar. Kind of like the bar in Cheers, say. The ample selection of beer and spirits were clearly on the central stage. They also had a number of flat screens great for catching the latest game. On the outer sides, there were plenty of booths suitable for accommodating large groups. The bar menu is decidedly low brow with some gritty selections. Of note are probably the fried pickles and the baskets of bacon. The fried pickles were tasty, though the batter was a bit thick. The bacon was plenty crispy, but it was bizarrely served with a side cup of maple syrup and a hefty sample of bleu cheese. This tasted pretty bad when mixed and would prove to be a source of indigestion for many hours to come. The drink selection was interesting with low prices all around. I sadly did not have time to have a pickleback or three. Similarly, I missed out on a pretty nice selection of whiskeys. However, our group did take advantage of the bucket of beers special, and we helped ourselves to plenty of Brooklyn Lagers. I would really enjoy coming back during an off-peak time and have my hand at some whiskeys. Recommend. read more

I have been to many bars and clubs in and around New York City, but the security/management at this place takes the cake as the worst. They have a bunch of security dudes on power trips walking around the bar watching your every move. They kick people out for really stupid reasons just because they can or they won't let you in for whatever reason they choose. I have seen this happen to people more than once. The only thing good I have to say about this place is their cheap drinks and their bartenders are pretty nice. Yelp doesn't know it yet but I'm a regular here *flips hair* I visit The Whiskey Brooklyn quite often for the past 3 years. The drinks are always strong and the service is always impeccable for a crowded and rowdy place. I've been here in two different types of environments: the "no personal room" and "college kids in adult bodies" madness, and the "I have no bae so let me go to the bar" lonely nights. The ladder is the best time to come if you want to just chill and relax and enjoy some food and vent to your favorite bartender. John is awesome and I always have him make my whiskey sours. The food here is good as well I'm in love with their wings. Now back to that college type atmosphere where you literally cannot inhale without getting a little wasted off the scent of alcohol. Always a good time at the Whiskey Brooklyn if you're down for getting stepped on, drinks splattered on your clothes, and fun with the game room. I don't have any complaints. Small, local, rugged breweries who care about nothing but the taste of their product. Such a great bar if you have a large group but I do advise that if you do have a large crowd to come early and grab one of their booths. The DJ plays every genre of music possible which is great because they have such a diverse crowd, I mean they played Whitney Houston "I will always love you". Arcades and game area is in the back with the restrooms. If you score major points you can grab a free drink at the bar. I will say that their signature drink the Brooklyn Tea was good but very water down; I mean if you're serving drinks in a pint glass at least make it a double, all that extra ice is not helping. If I were writing this review to a crowd of myself, it'd probably just be three stars, but I like to pretend I'm 30 instead of 23 because I'm super lame. For everyone else, enjoy your youth. I've got no idea what they are, outside they come in a glass and all my friends loved them, so hey, give em a try. The staff is pretty chill, but again, jockeying for that spot at the bar can be an absolute fight. Once you're there, don't leave. You'll have an awful time getting back. Obviously, the star of the bar is the whiskey. Or whoever's dancing on the bar, but you usually can't drink them. The whiskey selection is solid and reasonably priced, but by far from the only thing the bartenders can pour. His boy-next-door, sweet-charm appeal eludes from the fact that he can seriously rock the party. The pals and I already got down at the Tricky show at the Bowl around the corner, but the DJ wouldn't allow for ppl merely standing around being tools at the bar. Like a musical tyrant, a superhero with magical powers flowing through his Macbook, he demanded dance. And dance we did. Now that we got that out of the way, onto the food: amazing! Perhaps it was a combo of inebriation and hunger, but when the bf disappeared for 10 mins and returned w/a heap of buffalo wings, 'holla'peno poppers, mozzarella sticks AND some 'fajita pizza' thing, sh*t went down. For real. I rarely find the perfect combination of saucy-crispy wings, but The Whiskey brought it. I don't usually wander to this edge of my zip code so this was part of the semi-annual event called, My Husband and I Sell Shit To Beacon's Closet and Then Get Indignant About How Little Money We Make Off The Venture So We Drink Alcohol And Then Blow Whatever Money We Just Made.* Ok, I just can't give The Whiskey 2 stars because the staff was very friendly, and my drink, which was called something with the word secretary in it, was very good and very huge.The fried pickles were not, however, good unless good now means some kind of spectacle of nastiness to be studied by scientists. Maybe we hit an off day but it was a theater of burned oil and no other flavors but maybe, um, sadness? And I don't know why you would serve those bastards with sour cream and chives, but that tasted like the TJ O'Pootertoot's WTF Special to me. The veggie burger was not a thing I would revisit unless I had several more of those secretary named drinks and, I don't know, a tastebud injury. Also, this place is like a weird portal into the bizarro Upper East Side circa 2002, and I find that to be both unsettling and not a place or time I want to revisit in Brooklyn, 2012. A friend and I (somewhat stupidly) thought it'd be a good idea to show up on a Saturday afternoon and try to get into Brooklyn Brewery. With a long line at our disposal, we found two bar seats at the Whiskey instead. Turned out to be a good choice, as this is a heck of a day-drinking bar. Despite being located right next to Brooklyn Brewery, The Whiskey's Brooklyn Brewery beers are a limited selection. But we got by with a few helpings, and then some, of the perennial lager just fine. Bartenders are friendly, and our duration even got my friend a free pickleback (I declined on the pickle but okayed the whiskey, knowing what I would have gotten myself into). So, the best friend lives literally across the street from this place. Truth is, we'd go even if it sucked just out of pure convenience. But lucky for us, this place makes my happy drunk even happier. Down in a basement (which means spotty cell service, kids) the huge bar dominates the main room. Shuffle board, skee ball, a photo booth...all the bar necessities, in my opinon. The DJ plays an awesome mix of 80s,90s, and random current music- the kind of jams that make you drunkenly scream "omg this is my songgggg!"...every 3.5 minutes. Crowd is pretty ideal. I don't feel old or young, underdressed or overdressed, or, most importantly, ogled by creepy dudes. $8 drinks. SOLD! ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO PLAN AN INTERSTATE PUB CRAWL? when my good buddy Keith heard our friend Mark was joining the Navy, we knew it was mandatory to organize an epic night out. interstate pub crawl it was: Hoboken, Manhattan, and Brooklyn [1] were the designated drinking areas. it was even more epic on a random Saturday night than it was on New Year's! the DJ was excellent. all kinds of great music and he actually knew how to cut between songs and keep the tempo up. of course our group was shuffling for Party Rock Anthem...if you've never seen a group of engineers and scientists shuffle, you should probably just give up on life. yup. the crowd was a great mix: obligatory hipsters, Woooooo Girls, some old people, guidos, and more. it was packed, but you could move around in most parts [2]. our group actually took over the game room in the back, or as I was yelling out, "HASHTAG OCCUPY GAME ROOM". someone by the bar heard me say that and got a kick out of it. we sent Rookie on a mission to get us the Bowl of Bacon...it was perfect! some others in our group got the appetizer sampler and loved it. we ended up staying til closing. the last hour or so we actually scored a booth when the place began clearing out a bit. I think I actually like this more than their Manhattan sister bar...how is that even possible? I don't know, but it is. Whiskey Brooklyn, you served honorably in providing an epic night out for our Navy friend. 1: Whiskey Brooklyn was actually supposed to be the second-to-last stop on our pub crawl, but with the trains on a messed up schedule PLUS Daylight Savings Time, we scuttled plans to end in Manhattan. 2: in some spots, well, let's just say I am fairly sure there are some paternity suits heading my way in a few months. read more

Whiskey Brooklyn is a fantastic spot for a night out anytime of the year. I've been several times with groups ranging in size from 2-12. Rarely a long wait to get in (if you get there before 12/12:30). Craft cocktails on the main floor are well made and affordable for New York standards. Atmosphere is a little more chill upstairs. Downstairs is a tad more turned up. Music gets loud at 11pm on weekends. Usually top 40 beats and throwback jams, nothing really in the edm spectrum. Bartenders are solid and pour heavy downstairs. Whiskey Brooklyn is fairly new to the neighborhood. I found it a bit difficult to locate the joint because of the confusing address. However, if you see a bright-lit sign that says "bar," then I've think you've found it. My friend and I are not as bright at locating bars that say "bar." Nevertheless, the snafu did not wear us down because we were ready to drink some whiskey. I didn't try the specialty whiskey, but they have a whole laundry list of it. I did shots of whiskey before and I knew better. If you go early for happy hour, then you get a $1 off your drink. I didn't much like the Grandpa Tom's because it tasted like too much lemonade and not enough whiskey. I would recommend the John Daly because it had a great sweet tea taste. They only have light and dark beer on tap. I don't really understand that part. I guess since they are a whiskey bar, they don't want customers to focus on the beer perhaps. The bartender and the waitresses were super friendly. The food was really good too. I tried the fried pickles and they were the best fries pickles I've had in Brooklyn. The bowl of bacon and the tater tots were so crispy that you're just gonna have to take my word for it. I was watching a basketball game while ignoring my friends and hording my tater tots. My first thought when walking into this place was "why haven't I been here before?!" they play good music, have strong drinks, and also have games downstairs (just don't get too excited for the beer pong game and accidentally put your dollar into the skee ball machine right next to it like I did). On NYE every bar in Bklyn had a line and a redic cover charge, while offering nothing other than cramped space and TV with Ryan Seacrest. Enter The Whiskey. Even on NYE there was no cover charge, the line outside was managed well and there was enough room to dance poorly to 90's hits. Sure, I heard Wilson Phillips shortly after midnight, but whatevs. If there's one time a year you're going to hear 'hold on', why not make it at 12:01am on Jan 1st. Get that yit out of your system for a while. Throughout the night our crew rocked some skee-ball, spewed poor pick up lines at a girl that was dressed like an Indian and then hit the bar for some picklebacks. Food was roaming around by a distressed wait staff and it looked phenomenal, but I can't vouch for it. There were plenty of TV's around, which makes it a great venue to watch sports at and the drink prices are affordable. Fun place for sure. Walkable to all of your Brooklyn faves and def worth a stop for a quick drink or a lazy sports Sunday. read more

Personally, not for me. Here's what I've come to realize about myself, and this may help others find a bar to their liking: I'm a mid-20s professional who doesn't get to go out often. I value my Friday nights and Saturday nights as time to catch up with my friends. That being said, The Whiskey Brooklyn is really not the environment for people like me. The music is incredibly loud to the point where you're shouting at your friend sitting in a booth right next to you. The downstairs is packed to the brim and the gaming area is cramped. As far as aesthetics (for the downstairs; I can't comment on the upstairs), I feel like I'm in a dark basement. When I hear "whiskey bar", I think of a polished place and comfortable seating; the downstairs seemed kind of run-down to me. Frankly, the downstairs is more of a party bar. Amicable bartenders, but service is kind of slow. The downstairs seems to attract more of a college-age crowd (I swear I'm not an old curmudgeon). Yes, there are some nights that I yearn for a crowded place to dance with friends and not do much else; for those urges, this place would fill that void. After a drunken night at Brooklyn Bowl for a holiday event, we stumbled for one more for the night at Whiskey Brooklyn. Cool place for one more round. My friends ordered a pitcher of their darker ale (sorry couldnt' be more descriptive since I was a bit inebriated by then) but they started yelling that it tasted like soda. I stuck with my Blue Moon (first time seeing it served from a can)...Yummmmm bluuuueee moon. Anyway, the funniest part of the evening is when I got my boss to do the stripper pole. Wandered in here on a Saturday night with some friends and enjoyed the atmosphere of arcade games and plenty of sports on tv. Their house dark and light beers are pretty terrible. But an absolute deal breaker was when after a few hours, and very much money spent, they told two people in our party that they couldn't wear their baseball caps. The wait staff was wearing caps with the bar logo and their was a group of guys wearing big Afro wigs, and one of them a dress, that they apparently had no problem with, and like I said there was sports on every tv. The manager was just rude about it and we will never go back. It's apparently a sports bar where you can't wear sports stuff... read more
