My 2nd visit to 55S. First was elevated! recent lunch was decent, but the outcome was excellent. we had two tiny issues. First was a food temp problem which went back to the kitchen and returned satisfactory. The second was another small issue with char grilled oysters. My wife asked to speak to manager for feedback. In the end our meal was comped , completely unnecessary but appreciated. They threw another beer my way too so above and beyond on the outcome. Stopped by 55 South based on a local youtuber that reccomended it. Its located in Downtown Franklin, so as with everything in Downtown Franklin you have to find street parking. The service was friendly with plenty of followups. I ordered the gumbo but tried my friends chicken and waffles. The chicken was moist and full of flavor. I couldnt ask for anything more. The waffles were tasty and crisp. That dish was something i would come back for. The gumbo seemed to have the right flavor, not too rich but not too bland. My boyfriend and I have made it our mission to venture out more and try different restaurants and last Saturday we landed on 55 South - Franklin. This place was cozy and quaint. We were sat right in front of a window which we actually enjoyed because we could people watch but also check out some of the local shops and boutiques as we enjoyed our meals. If you get one thing on the menu, let it be the deviled eggs! I wish I would have taken a picture of them, but by the time that idea came to mind we had demolished them. First of all, they don't take reservations; but 55 South is in a great location. Check in at the front desk, give them your phone number, and they'll text when your table is ready as you explore the shops and scenery. I would first suggest the gumbo, great flavors and not too spicy. If you aren't overly hungry, the gumbo bowl could certainly be a meal. I wanted to sample more of the menu, so I ordered the smoked turkey with their popular "comeback sauce". The sandwich was very good, but I'd suggest the sauce on the side as I wasn't a fan! If you're in the mood for spice, try the hot chicken sandwich. The burgers were also well liked by our table. I have never liked oysters, but they appear to be famous for them - they have a count of how many oysters they've sold up on the wall! If you enjoy oysters, I'd say give them a go. 55 South is in a great area, there is so much to see and do. I'd highly recommend checking it out. We will be back! read more

Stopped here for brunch over the weekend and it was okay! I got a Diet Coke and burger and fries. The burger was too greasy for my taste, esp when paired with a highly buttered bun. My mom and I stopped in on a Saturday night for dinner. We had to wait 45 minutes, but since they don't take reservations, I expected this and didn't mind. Our server was so kind and attentive, and our food was incredible! The standout dishes would be the Fried Shrimp PoBoy, Jambalaya, Cheese grits and the coleslaw! Just FANTASTIC! Hubby and I spent an afternoon downtown Franklin visiting our favorite places before we made a big move to Texas. We decided to try a new restaurant and man we're we sooooo sorry we didn't try this place sooner!!! 55 South was EXCELLENT. From the vibe to the service (probably in the top 5 restaurants we've been to, and we travel extensively). Shay and Bill were 100% spectacular and we can't wait to go back. Fun and popular place in downtown Franklin. We were there on a girls trip, and the 8 of us were able to sit at the bar to drink and eat. Service was friendly and quick. This was my first time visiting while in town on business. We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and were seated at a table in the front bar area. This front dining area is VERY loud. Like so loud, folks were yelling across the bar to talk to each other. My husband and I had a hard time hearing each other over the roar of the bar. The bartender was serving a full bar of 10+ people, plus serving 4 additional tables including us. Therefore, the service was pretty slow because he was managing so many folks. We ordered the fried green tomatoes w/shrimp remoulade and deviled egg appetizers. The eggs were good, the tomatoes were just okay. For entrees, I ordered the chicken and sausage jambalaya and my husband had the gumbo. Both entrees were flavorful and had a nice Cajun spice. On our trip to Tennessee today, we stopped in this quaint little town called, Franklin. Decided to have lunch here at this restaurant called 55 south. Guy Fieri was here back in 2019. So we thought well, we'll give it a try ". It was packed inside, which was a good sign. The atmosphere is lively, just because it's so full of people eating, good music playing in the background, service is perfect, and now let's talk about the food. We had today the bowl of gumbo, and hubby says it was absolutely delicious. I had the turkey sandwich. I know, I know...it sounds boring. But you guys gotta try it. It was amazing! The Kickback sauce that they put in it, makes Everything go together. I'm telling you, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back again, if we're in this neck of town. My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday for lunch in January. The food was fantastic. The fried chicken and sausage gravy biscuits was dynamite. If I could eat it again, I would skip the honey, as I don't like mixing sweet and savory in that way. Flavor was dynamite. Just an exceptional dish. My wife had the Dirty Bird. She enjoyed it. Although the Texas Toast got pretty mushy from the sauce on the sandwich. Maybe they could do the sauce on the side? We also had the powdered sugar donuts for dessert. They were deep fried and thus pretty decadent. Worth trying one time, but I don't think I would get them next time. Our server was excellent; friendly and attentive. The hostess could have been warmer; I walked up to the stand and waited for her to say hello and address me. After a few seconds of staring at each other, she said stoically, "How can I help you?" We were told it would be a 45-minute wait for a table. In the end (after putting our name on the list and then circling back a few minutes later), we asked if we could along the street-facing windows, and she said yes. I thought it was odd that she didn't offer that as an option initially. It was a good option for seating, as we could look out on the street while dining. We were sat immediately on the left side of the restaurant, which is the side that does not have a bar. The menu was on your table under the glass so there was nothing to hold, and it was simple to understand. Our server was with us quickly and was good about giving us time to chat as we were slow ordering. Once ordered though, the food came out quickly. we started with the deviled eggs, which were great! The pickle was a nice touch. For my entree, I had the jambalaya and it was also good. The temperature was a bit on the cool side, but the ingredients were top notch and it had a nice kick to it. There was some road construction down the street but it didn't stop the crowds in and around the restaurant which tells you it's a popular spot. We came in on a Sunday when it was brunch only which was sad because I had my eyes on the fish tacos but I settled for a bbq chicken sandwich which turned out very good. The homemade chips for the side are very good too and great to dip in bbq sauce. I also got a cup of gumbo for an app and it was top notch gumbo. Great place for kids too with a nice menu. Arrived here around 6:15pm on a Friday night. My partner and I forgot that it was the first Friday of the month so a bigger crowd would be expected in Downtown. Not surprisingly, the wait time was an hour and a half and the restaurant does not take reservations (first come, first serve). We went ahead and accepted the long wait time. The great thing about the location is that there were plenty of stores open for us to browse and a bar nearby to have a pre-dinner drink. They had a legitimate poboy with NOLA baked French bread and properly fried catfish and shrimp. Dressed propper. They get this dish. Very unusual to get legit poboy outside southern Louisiana. I don't know much but I know poboy. Didn't love how crowded it is for lunch, but that is just me. Probably wouldn't go back for this reason, at least when busy. Most wouldn't mind this.
