We enjoyed another amazing meal at 1799 this week. As always, it was a wonderful experience--but lately it feels like the restaurant has been elevated even further. I'm guessing that's due in part to Maverick, the General Manager, who seems genuinely committed to excellence. We actually came back this week because we realized we'd enjoyed our meal so much during our last visit that we forgot to take photos for our review. Believe it or not, we nearly forgot again! I rarely eat bread, but I always make an exception for the Spent Grain Loaf. Paired with the unbelievably fresh butter and flaky sea salt, it's one of my favorite things on the menu. My husband ordered the Prawn Cocktail. I'm allergic to shrimp, so I couldn't try it myself, but he said it was outstanding. I usually order the Koji Ribeye, but this time my husband claimed it first, so I ventured out and ordered the Alaskan Halibut with hash brown crust, orange vinaigrette, and watercress. It was absolutely delicious. My favorite side remains the Roasted Carrots with Leiper's Fork honey and tarragon--they're incredible. We finished with the Carrot Cake. It's less sweet than the version served at another well-known Franklin restaurant, which I actually prefer. The flavors are more nuanced, and the crunchy shredded carrot on top adds the perfect texture. The food was, as always, exceptional. We were fortunate to have Jeff Paul as our server again. He's knowledgeable, attentive, and strikes that perfect balance of being available without ever being intrusive. That said, we've honestly never had anything but excellent service at 1799. Maverick stopped by our table and was warm, engaging, and genuinely interested in making sure every guest had a memorable experience. Had burger and it was delicious! French fries good with burger but preferred the garlic cheese ones, (same fries, just garlic and shredded cheese on top) Met the manager, Maverick and what a good name! He's a 'pistol' extremely nice, friendly, sincere and professional. Can tell he runs a 'tight ship'. He suggested the carrot cake and OMG, it was delicious!!! I went here for dinner with a colleague. Was same night of the local festival. We were able to get in before the post concert rush. The place is gorgeous. On the quieter side which made it easy to have a discussion. The bourbon selection is very large. I was impressed. The waitstaff was attentive and chatty. We talked about the restaurant and the festival. My friend went healthy and loved his salmon. I decided to try the bison for the first time. Wow, it was tasty. Cooked just right at Medium. The asparagus was done just right. Overall very nice place for a date or taking clients out. read more

We had a wonderful experience dinning in. We arrived right as they opened and were sat quickly with no reservation. The dinning room is beautiful modern with leather and gorgeous moody wallpaper. The woodwork in the dinning room is honestly high craftsmanship. The apps were wonderful and hearty. The rigatoni was a perfect balance of sauce and beef ragu, and a great way to prepare for dinner. We all ordered a range of dishes from chicken to steaks and salads. And honestly the beef Wellington was the most stunning dish. The pastry was fluffy and crispy, a nice touch to the greens baked within. && the steak was a most perfect medium temp and flavor. It was beautiful. The star dish of the evening! The smoked chicken was a great decision either way a nice smoky flavor that wasn't overpowering. Beautifully plated. This restaurant and bar is onsite at the Harpeth Hotel and it's a great place to pop in. They are open to non- guests as well so a great dinner option. We came here for a client meeting and was instantly wowed by the ambiance when walking through the hotel lobby. We were seated in a very comfortable booth that had tons of table space. My colleague and I noticed they had a control with green chartreuse in the mix so we had to have the mixologist make us a green chartreuse cocktail. The taste was phenomenal! For starters (because we were all starving), we ordered the fondue and the seafood tower to start off. I was so excited for the seafood tower since it included caviar. The flavors were delicious, but it was time to try the caviar. We asked the food and beverage manager the options and we did the on wrist "bump" method. I wasn't a huge fan, but very excited that I was able to try it out. Now the fondue, you can never go wrong with. Cheese and carbs, what's not to love? Flavor was devine. I wasn't looking over the menu and wanted to try the special, but by the time we ordered they were already out. I ordered the filet Oscar with the special sauce they had and was wowed by all the flavor and the cook on the steak. The chef really knows what he's doing here. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake and the crème brûlée. Both fantastic! This is now my favorite place in Franklin's dm cannot wait to be back. read more

We had reservations but the bar looked inviting so we sat there. The bar staff did such an amazing job with the high volume of drink orders. Our Manhattans were perfectly crafted thanks to Ashley. We started with the oysters. The smoked onion mignonette was a fantastic blend of the sweetness of the onion with the smoke plus acid of the vinegar. It was so rich I could have eaten it on a piece of bread. Our 2nd course was the burrata and beet salad. The burrata was not the traditional round offering with soft center but more of a soft mozzarella. The beets were perfectly cooked. They were slightly overdressed but still delicious. I had the scallops over mushroom risotto. I love it when my scallops are perfectly seared with soft and light centers. The chef hit the mark. Risotto was creamy and tasteful. My husband had the lamb shank and creamy polenta. He didn't speak very much and he did share a bite. It was rich and tender. The polenta was soft and drizzled with a lamb jus and decadent. Speaking of decadent - we shared the sticky toffee pudding. Yum!!! We will definitely back and I think you should too! read more

We stayed at the Harpeth and had dinner here on a Friday night. We had a group of 10. The dining area was about 50% full (it was mid-January). Our server was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We were seated at 6:30 (ordered relatively soon after) and our entrees didn't arrive until after 8 pm. It was the longest wait I've had for food in many years. Our server was apologetic and said the reason for the wait was that two other large parties were seated around the same time as us. The food itself was disappointing. The filet our friend ordered medium came out rare (deep pink). The bison New York Strip had decent flavor, but lots of fat and also gristle in three parts. The sides that came with our entrees were small and uninspiring. Overall, portions were on the smaller side and no one came away saying they enjoyed their food. My wife was asked if she wanted anchovies on her salad; she had said no and yet the anchovies still came out. We didn't order appetizers due to not finding any of them on the menu appealing. The dessert menu also didn't appeal to any of us, plus we had already waited so long that we walked nearby for ice cream. At this price point, I expected much, much better. read more

This was a very nice place to eat. It is in the lobby of a hotel. Depending if they have an event or live band depends on how loud it is. But the place was decorated very well!!! Service was great, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to make up for the travesty of cooking we experienced. For starters we got the Brussels and the Pork Belly. The Pork Belly came out room temperature, far too sweet, and the Gouda polenta was cold. The Brussels were soaked in sugar, basically soggy without any earthiness or flavor from the sprout left. The Bison I order for a main was fine, but the gnocchi my wife ordered were possibly the worst gnocchi I've ever tasted in my life, They were like flavorless, tough, overcooked cubes of potato-based culinary despair. As someone who makes gnocchi regularly it's not that hard, but if you pride yourself on making in-house pasta do it right. Off-the-shelf Kroger gnocchi would've been an improvement. Our waitress was again very accommodating but man, that should never leave the kitchen again. read more

I joined fellow Harpeth residents for the unveiling of 1799's new seasonal menu last night. The ambiance was certainly beautiful; our server was excellent; the au gratin potatoes were superb; and the bread service was good; the trout - on the other hand - was thin, dry and tasteless; the mushroom tart was disappointing, with little flavor; the carrots were just okay; and the strawberry sorbet was lacking the flavor of strawberries. Overall, after ordering a wide variety of items, I would say my friend's and I were generally underwhelmed. We were there to be supportive and enjoy some new selections. I personally surmise, however, that no amount of new items on a menu can distract the attention of hungry eaters away from poorly prepared food. read more

Had dinner with a friend in Franklin. What a beautiful building and restaurant. The bar was great as well. Dinner was in the private booths with curtains which made for a cozy and quiet experience. Server was attentive and very nice. Drinks were great but a little slow. The Brussels were solid but not my favorite I've had. We ate from the seasonal menu with the Beef Wellington. Very delicious. Dessert was the Kentucky Butter Cake and Espresso Martini. Can't go wrong. Every seasoned well and cooked. Would return. read more

Add this to the litany of restaurants overrated by Franklinites, only to lead to disappointment, fail to live up to the hype, and make you wonder what locals are thinking. Put 1799 Kitchen up against comparable high-end eateries in Nashville and it pales in comparison. When I spend $300 for two people, a restaurant should be a lot better than three stars! The buttermilk fried quail appetizer was the best thing we had all night. That thin, crispy crust surrounding such tender meat with sweet and savory flavors perfectly intertwined is so memorable. The charcuterie board was also good, but not on the level of Urban Grub and Husk. My wife had the Steak and Frites, so naturally I stole a few bites. It was good quality steak, a bit too salty and not as tender as it should be, but enjoyable nonetheless. This is certainly no Kayne Prime, nor is it Bourbon Steak. The frites are advertised as garlic parmesan, but neither flavor was very prominent. I'm a huge fan of flavored butters on meat and seafood dishes, but we didn't care for the herb butter on the steaks at all. I had the porterhouse special, a sizeable steak that runs well over $100. But the quality was disheartening, a tough steak lacking tenderness and almost flavorless. The herb butter didn't help. For that price, it should have been a far better experience. The lobster mac & cheese side dish looks incredible on paper, with large chunks of lobster meat over Campanelle pasta in a seafood Mornay sauce. I suppose I was anticipating the béchamel I make at home, an incredibly textured Mornay with beautifully cheesy flavors. But this sauce was hardly that. The lobster was also a tad chewy, but ample and sufficiently tasty. It wasn't enough to outweigh the bland sauce and overcooked pasta. There is no question the meal was enjoyable. But it wasn't the quality to which I'm accustomed in that price range. At every turn, I found myself eating good food but finding flaws and disappointments. The location is perfect, the interior is gorgeous, the service is impeccable, but the food needs a lot of work. read more

One server for the whole lounge area is ridiculous especially on Valentine's Day. She served drinks in dirty glasses with lipstick marks from the guest before. She took my wine by the bottle order and tried to tell me it wasn't available so she could sucker me into the most expensive of the type and when I told her they only had two in the bottle per menu she disagreed. Then showed up with the one on the menu telling me it was the only only bottle they had. No shit. She dropped off the dirty glass of bourbon with pink lipstick from the guest before and never returned. Ten mins later I went to the bar asking for a clean glass and she brought one to us like she was a hero. "I poured a whole new glass!" (WOW! Congratulations on the bare minimum) We finally got her to take our order and someone else delivered it. After we ordered, waited, received the order, ate it and waited 45 additional mins to find her l went to the bar asking to please give me our check or bring it and and she rolled her eyes as if I was putting her out. I get that it was Valentine's Day however, when we showed up, nobody was in the lounge area. We ordered three hamburgers. Nothing fancy, nothing problematic and made no changes to the way I was served. We ordered at 5:30 and at 7:30. I was tracking her down begging for the receipt. Absolutely horrible service. I get that. It wasn't her fault that she was the only one scheduled tonight, but someone in management needs to take ownership and the fact that you need two people to work that lounge. read more

Everything was absolutely amazing! Hard to know where to start. Atmosphere and vibe very nice. Great live music from the adjacent bar where we had a drink before dinner. Music by Brian Ashley Jones and Melanie Jean. Bartender, Caleb, was great. Provided us as first time visitors with lots of helpful information. Food and service were great. Our server Caroline helped us navigate the menu for a perfect meal. Great unique Chef creations. Food presentation, portions, flavors were all perfect. Wedge salad, small pasta appetizers started things off. We added 'bread and butter.' Bread was made using a whiskey mash from local partner, Leiper's Fork distillery giving it a unique flavor and texture not to be missed. Cedar planked salmon was my entre and it was perfect. Cauliflower with quinoa and cashew butter was superb. Also, you have to save room for for one of the amazing desserts. General Manager, Sarena, was kind enough to stop by and make sure everything was perfect. It was!!! Probably one of the best meals and dining experiences ever! read more

The presentation of the food and overall ambience is on par with a fine dining restaurant, but for $170, the food and experience is not up to my standard. Parking is a hassle. If you are lucky, you may find street parking, but there are a couple paid lots in the area. We paid $20 for 2 hour parking. If you are early for the reservation, you won't be seated until it is your exact time. We started off with burrata, quail, and complimentary cheese popovers. The popovers were delicious and remind me of Brazilian cheese bread, which is slightly chewy like mochi. The $20 quail was very underwhelming and small (duh). I was hoping for better seasoning or something else that would make it more exciting. The burrata was okay; it is just a typical cheese and bread plate with crispy salty prosciutto and peach slices. We both ordered scallops and were hugely disappointed. It took nearly an hour for us to get our meals, and when we did, there were multiple issues with the food. The scallops were over cooked and over salted, and the risotto had very little flavor and was watery. We ordered the creamed spinach side, which had more sausage chunks than spinach. The potato side was alright. It's unfortunate we had to wait so long for our entrées. By the time we received them, we were asking for the check and rushing to get back to the car before our parking expired. read more

So .... the food is good. However, the service is poor. The bar/restaurant is connected to the hotel, so many of the clientele are hotel guests. I live locally, and this was the third strike/you're out visit to 1799. I wanted to eat more. I wanted to drink more (assuming my wife was on the same page), but it almost took a flare gun to get one of the bartenders over to put the order in. The two barkeeps were not overly friendly or interested. In fact, as I sit here writing this review, my beer has been empty for five minutes. I am at the bar. There are five other people. We stayed at the Harpeth for one night for a quick weekend as a first year wedding anniversary getaway while the grandparents took care of the baby. We had an amazing experience at the hotel, the restaurant was just fine. The hostess was great she congratulated us on our anniversary and was very sweet. The server was okay he seemed very rushed. It was dinner time on a Saturday so I get it, but still, slow it down a bit man! Now to the meal: The food was... interesting. For a starter we got the crispy pork belly and it was anything but crispy the glaze was nice but the piece of meat felt very gummy and rubbery and a bit underdone without the proper fat rendering. The wine, I know how restaurants up charge for wine. I'm not going to pay 150$ a bottle for a 40$ bottle I can get from Kroger. We got the only cab they had in a glass and I will say for it being a 16$ bottle it was really good. The pour was great on it as well. I had the caesar salad and I was expecting, like anyone, a cold crisp caesar salad. What I got was a stack of leaves that were charred and warm that i had to eat with a fork and knife. I think it there was an intention to have this upscale salad experience but the execution is what came up short. the salad was semi crisp but the warm-ness really threw me. It seemed to me like they were trying too hard to be this extremely fine dining experience but I would have preferred a basic cold caesar salad. The steak was cooked perfectly I will say that. Medium rare with a good crust the only thing I would say that would be a slight criticism was it could have used a pinch less salt. Other than that it was great. My wife got the gnocchi and it was just fine a little drab but nothing terrible to complain about. We got a dessert which they said was on the house which was very sweet of them to do that. We got the crem brûlée and it was soo good! Between the steak, the wine and the dessert that's what gave this an overall positive experience. Would I recommend this restaurant well, only if you're staying at the hotel and don't want to leave the premises like we did. If I were to go back knowing what I know now, we definitely would have went somewhere else. I knew I was taking a risk with a hotel restaurant but oh well such is life. read more

Food was pretty awful. The pork belly was all fat. The pork chop was overcooked, cool and half gristle. The fried mushrooms came out cold and stale. They were inedible. I probably would have said something had the waiter come around to check. I've been here numerous times and doubtful I'll be back. Kitchen was a huge letdown. read more

We went there for brunch. 2 of us had the blueberry lemon pancakes. 2 of us and the Prosciutto eggs benedict. Most were petty good but not overly great. Potatoes on the benedict was just okay and it was a little dry. The service was the issue. Even though the server was nice, they barely checked on us but the wait on the food and getting the initial order took forever. We also noticed tables getting their order after us when they came in 10-15 after we did. I really think he forgot to turn it in when he took our order. Review for brunch So I was completely underwhelmed by brunch but my friend really enjoyed her food. We both thought the hostess was rude or disorganized (you can decide for yourself). I would recommend reservations because they seem to expect them even when it is very quiet. Ask for a comfy booth (privacy curtains are a nice touch) or a table in the "whiskey barrel" section. One odd thing is that our waiter brought the wrong cocktail but didn't want to fix the mistake. While I have not tried the restaurant yet I went for cocktails with a friend at the hotel bar...the restaurant was in between lunch and dinner so we couldn't order food. The daiquiri was simple, strong, and delicious. My friend didn't rave about her Paloma but we both ordered seconds! I would highly recommend relaxing in the library room to enjoy the fireplace or enjoy the courtyard view and people watch. Attentive service was appreciated but would have liked to learn more for future visits (I didn't see any information on happy hours, daily specials, brunch, etc) I am excited for the outdoor patio seating and courtyard areas . I hope they will offer outdoor service on warm days during the winter but I'm not sure if we have to wait until spring! I would definitely love to try the restaurant and it would be great to see a social hour or ladies special for brunch or cocktails! $36 for 2 drinks & tip is pricey IMO but it is an upscale atmosphere. Came here for a social family dinner. I had the special which was a lobster risotto, and I highly recommend. It was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. I also had one of their signature cocktails, the Paloma. High quality liquor with a strong taste. The service was impeccable and we were served by Scott, who is lovely and attentive. The ambience is very high-end and fancy but also comforting and relaxing. My only downside to the experience was that my dad had ordered the steak medium rare, it came out lukewarm and very over cooked (medium well/well). At the price they charge, I did expect a better attentiveness to the preference of the customer and an ability to adhere to that. Overall, if you are looking for a special night out or a fancy meal, I recommend 1799 and Scott as your server. read more

Had never been in this hotel before as I'm a local who lives down the road. Had dinner for the first time with some girlfriends last night and was impressed with the space. I had crab cakes and the kale salad for dinner. I loved how the booths were very private with draping around them, we had a great time. The food was fine, nothing spectacular, but certainly tasty. Scott waited on 8 ladies this morning for Sunday brunch! He did a great job serving. The mimosas were yummy and the banana bread French toast was a great serving size and rich. It was very good, but wasn't as crispy or eggy as I expected. Maybe that a personal preference. I do recommend getting something like bacon to help cut the sweetness of the French toast. I wish the coffee had a little bolder taste as well. Overall, I highly recommend 1799! The ambiance is nice, the decor is beautiful, the service is great, and the food is really good! read more
