Hands down the best burger in Stamford. Get the classic deluxe with a black and white shake and fries.

I rarely get to visit Stamford restaurants, because we don't live in the area and we have a lot of family in Stamford so we eat in a lot. I was happy to get a chunk of time to visit The Wienery, which seems like one of the better regarded hot dog places in the Stamford area. I ordered a chili and coleslaw dog and a "Chicaaago" dog. The dogs are standard length Sabretts, all beef hot dogs from New Jersey that are popular in New York as well. The hot dogs were split and grilled. The actual Sabrett hot dogs were good, but I prefer some other regional options. I probably wouldn't have split a standard size dog like that, but that's a judgment call. The Chicaaago Dog was more like a second cousin of a Chicago dog, but it captured the flavorful point of the dog. The chili and coleslaw were both good. The Wienery is obviously very popular. People were in and out the entire time I was there. They have burgers, other sandwiches, sides, shakes and Italian Ice as well. They had inside and outside eating. The Wienery is a little kitschy and a little gimmicky - but once you get past the wiener jokes and double entendres, the hotdogs are actually pretty good. Their standard dogs are good, but the real magic is in the specialty fare. Note that the average diner will need at least two dogs and likely three if you're not getting a special. On a recent trip I enjoyed the Mo Dog (kraut + mustard) and absolutely loved the Rodeo Dog (Onion Strings, Crispy Bacon, BBQ Sauce, Cheese Sauce). I probably could have used a third dog because they are not huge. The Wienery is not Walter's - it is, however, a solid option in Stamford. read more

It wasn't a total miss for me but it wasn't a home run either. I ordered a Chili Dog Combo. I love a good old fashioned Natural Casing Weiner and the Sabrett just did not hit the mark for me... The Chili added very little flavor to the Hot Dog. And the fries were a frozen affair. Meh, seemed mailed in to me. :( The store is very clean and the order taker was very nice. Today I stopped by the Wienery to grab some food before my flight to Miami. Whilst ordering, this wonderful young lady named Whitney was very kind and helpful to me. $7.50 for two specialty dogs that tasted good but looked skimpy. I had a hair appointment on the area and saw that this was across the street so I stopped in for a quick lunch before I drove home. It is a very small restaurant with maybe 5-7 tables if that and an even smaller parking lot right off the street where you pull in in front of the restaurant. While I am happy it wasn't street parking, the lot could be confusing because I don't know if you could park in the back too, it kind of seemed like you could. I ordered the Mo and Mario Lopez dogs. The mo was just a hot dog with spicy mustard and sauerkraut ( my absolute favorite dog) and the Mario Lopez was pico, avocado and cheese sauce. I should start of with saying that there dogs reminded me of five guys, it's even split the same. It took about 10 minutes to get my dogs after ordering, and after receiving them that just seemed too long since everything was sloppily thrown on the dogs. The mo had the spicy mustard and be sauerkraut in the center and the Mario Lopez was practically sogging from the bottom of the bread. Overall, I was not impressed by this experience and I don't think I would come back again it the opportunity ever arose but the dog flavors are creative and fun. read more

Came to the Wienery for dinner with my family today and everyone really enjoyed their experience! We were able to look at the menu and figure out what we wanted to order without any pressure or rush. The men behind the counter grilling and taking orders were polite and friendly. The space has plenty of seating indoors (ac'ed) and outdoors (suited for groups of 4 or less). There was music playing indoors and outdoors, but it wasn't blasting so we could hear each other talking without yelling. The hotdogs and burger combos we ordered were great too! Nothing was greasy or oily, the hotdogs and burgers were cooked to perfection, and the fries were perfectly fried! Definitely will be coming back again hopefully soon! read more

While in town for a convention we ate out each night. Our first two meals were at expensive date night places. This was our third and final meal for the trip. A hyper local sort of place that as a visitor I'm unlikely to find without recommendations. Great food, fast service, made me feel like stepping back into a local place from my childhood in the 90s. It is a small restaurant inside, there is seating outside though. The parking lot is also little tight, you pull in right off the street where you pull in in front of the restaurant. Slightly better than McDonalds... I guess. I was so excited to try what seemed like a New England, Stamford, CT classic burger joint. I read the reviews on yelp and thought well this could be the place. Then I walked inside, and got smacked in the face with a bright red wall, which didn't hurt quite as bad as the food smack I got. The food here is cheap. And that's where the positives end. I got a plain hotdog hoping for it to be homemade, and I got a Spicy Eddie with a drink and fries. The hot dog was not homemade but rather tasted frozen. As for the Spicy Eddie that was terrible, it was supposed to come with pepper jack cheese but they ran out. So instead I got jalapenos with cheese wiz, on a single smash burger patty. The bun was frozen cold on the bottom. I will say this the fries were meh, but hey that is better than bad. They were seasoned well, but were soggy. Slight side note the ambiance was very jarring unless you like bright red in your face. In short, if you want something slightly cheaper than McDonalds this is your place, but if you are looking for that classic New England burger shop feel I suggest you go to Rawleys in Fairfield, CT right up the road. These are some of the best hot dogs in the world. They start with all beef Sabrett dogs, and dress them up with all sorts of fancy fixings. I came in yesterday and got The Big Sloppy dog and added pico de gallo and cheese sauce. It was delicious, filling, and fresh. The establishment is super clean and the service is friendly and prompt. Located near the Ridgeway Shopping Plaza, this place was relatively crowded when I came in at an off hour (2pm). Lots of families and kids. I was excited to try this place as it's been on my bucket list for awhile as the reviews were highly rated. Overall, I think this place is average at best. It's not bad at all, but it's nothing amazing either. It's good for when you just have simple cravings of things that take you back to childhood memories. They offer the standard burgers, fries, sandwiches, shakes, etc. Their speciality hot dogs get a little more creative with toppings and are priced around $3-$4 each. I opted for the Mario Lopez and the Tater Dog. The filling was good and obviously a nice step up from basic hot dogs, but I felt like the bun could have been crispier. It felt a little too soggy for my tastes. For 2 dogs and a small soda it was $11. Not terrible but for that price, I could get a real lunch. I left feeling pretty hungry. I spotted this hot dog joint while driving through town and made a mental note to self to bookmark it and come back for a meal. So today was the perfect day for me to dine here as I was in between conference calls. I walk in at lunchtime and review the menu and see that they grill burgers too. I was extremely excited to try this place out for the first time, but was quite disappointed, given the top-notch rating on Yelp. The food was average at best - hot dogs were tiny, nothing special, and the sliders were flat and mushy, nothing to write home about. Sorry to admit, but I honestly prefer White Castle burgers over these sliders. Prices don't appear too shabby when you order them from the menu, but for what you receive in return, they're pretty overpriced.
