Went here for the first time, early (4pm) on a Friday for "Fish Fry" to beat the crowd. What a nice, clean friendly place. Very welcoming staff and food/drinks were great. Our party of four each ordered different styles of fish meals and all were beautifully prepared and delicious. Our server Lindsey (sp?) was great. Very nice, attentive and truly made us feel welcome and appreciated. We will be making The Wild Turkey top's on our list of favorite dinner stops. Need to come back and try the Prime Rib next. Traveling through Conover and happened upon this place. Lunch was super tasty. Both the lunch special, enchiladas, and brisket sandwich were delicious. There was ample meat on both. The ice tea was so refreshing and smooth. Service was quick and efficient with the waitress coming at the right frequency. The decor was quite pleasing with black, white and color popped in. The horseshoe bar seemed very inviting especially with the big window pane behind it. We really enjoyed our lunch experience there and if ever in the area again, we'll be sure to drop by. read more

I was last here a few years back and they definitely remodeled. I almost didn't recognize the place from my last photo! We stopped here on the 4th of July as it was one of the few places open. They were busy, all the tables were filled when we arrived, and our waitress was moving. I don't recall her name but she was good even though she was swamped. Since it was Friday, our group had a variety of items. Fish fry, baked fish, jumbo shrimp, ribs, and a steak sandwich. Portions were generous and everything was delicious. I'm glad they had a full menu because the last time we were there they didn't. We all left full and satisfied. read more

Wow this is really outstanding bar food! We got a bbq starter that might have served for a nice little lunch. All really good bbq I got a ribeye steak sandwich which was cooked right and just hit the spot. Everything superior from well seasoned chips to good fries that avoid being soggy as in other places. Caught The Wild Turkey during a menu revamp, maybe not the best time, so even though my experience was closer to three stars I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Apparently they are abandoning their smoked meat and BBQ menu for something else, but haven't fully landed on what that something else might be. Tonight's special was fried perch, which I had. It was OK, but I would order something else next time. Had a nice ale on tap, staff was friendly. No dining at the bar, however, which I prefer when flying solo. read more

I have had some really good bbq here but that was a while ago. The last two visits were a bit disappointing. There was a huge fight in the kitchen time before last (year ago +). And just last week we went for dinner and the brisket was just gray in color with lots of fat. In fact all the food on my plate was just kind of the same color. read more

We stopped at The Wild Turkey randomly as we passed through town and it was some of the best BBQ I ever had--and I've been to Texas, the South, etc. All meat was fork tender and fell off the bone. The ribs in particular were my favorite. The baked beans were unlike any other baked bean I've had. It had multiple types and sizes that kicked it up a notch. Everything was handmade, even the hand cut French fries. Nothing frozen here, folks. The owner and master smoker, Ed, ran the bar on this particular day and was very pleasant to chat with over the course of the lunch. The restaurant was just recently renovated and looks great. All in all I wish I lived near this restaurant because it was that good. Ed could easily win any BBQ competition around. 10/10. read more

OMG, we just moved to the area and came here as a recommendation from a local. Boy, we were NOT disappointed. The waitress was so sweet and welcoming and made some great suggestions from the menu. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer but it didn't make the cut picture wise because we LOVED them and ate them all but let me tell you, one of the best fried curds I've had and they came so fast, hot and so many an easy sharable starter. The sampler of BBQ was amazing everything was so tender with a great smoky flavor and the BBQ (made in house)....WOW! Give it a try, you'll be glad you did. read more

I don't know what's happening here but we stopped in yesterday for what use to be some of the best homemade pizza in the area. We were told they no longer have that but now have frozen pizza available. As frozen pizza goes it wasn't bad but when you have had their homemade and now all they have is frozen it was quite a disappointment. read more

Old Fashioneds are good with good service. Brisket (smoked) is to die for. Definitely worth it but the red potatoes are everything.

We ordered ribs, brisket and rolls, they cut the rolls to size and even buttered, and the most amazing macaroni and cheese I have ever had! Not sure if being from California like the previous reviewer, qualifies you as an expert on brisket and smoked meat, but as a Midwesterner, I'd say the meat dishes are good but not outstanding. The brisket was a bit dry and the sauces are too thin. They could be a little more imaginative with the sides. Tater Tots, chips or boiled potatoes. It's winter up here and snowmobilers show up in packs. The pleasant waitress/ cook/ bartender was overwhelmed as groups of 10-12 walk in wanting drinks right away. Took us longer to get the check thank to eat our meal. The smoked chicken wings are your best bet. read more

This place is not prepared for CoVid precautions AT ALL other than a sign on the outside door & signs reminding to social distance. Condiments, napkins on tables. Only bartender & cook were on duty for dinner. Bartender Roland was slammed. Lots of people at the bar very much lit up for a birthday, he came to our table of 5 to take order and sat down on a chair next to our 10 yr old who skooted his chair the other way. He was friendly, suggested the ribeye sandwich. Later came back to say they were out. 1 of us ordered a cheeseburger with pickles. It came no pickles--out of them. We watched a lady take her family's dishes to the bar, (probably to bus for the slammed Roland) while her husband pd bill. They left. New family came in & sat at their unwiped table! St Pats decorations still hanging as well as St Pats drink specials flashing on the tv screens. This was on May26, 2020! Told me nothing had been done in 2 months to prepare for customers to come in. Menus in plastic sleeves were dirty and not wiped between people using them. The pool table was covered up w/ a tv in a box on top. A prize? I dunno. Maybe for whoever survives eating here & getting CoVid! It was our family's first meal at a restaurant since Stay at Home order. We put on clothes for public viewing! We were excited, open minded. Food tasted fine, smoked brisket, fries, chix on a stick, cheese curds, peel & eat shrimp, but we will NEVER go back considering the owner does not have his customers welfare in mind at all. Roland was nice bartender, but his talent and hardworking efforts are wasted here! And this owner is opening another joint? Not for this year round northwoods family! Will warn everyone I meet. Amazing ribs, brisket, baked beans, literally everything was delicious! They take their time with the food and it's worth the wait. Unbelievable!
