Walleye, chips, BBQ beans, tartar, ranch
Helena F.

Friday night fish fry was great. Three cheers for the walleye. Everything was good - BBQ beans weren't too sweet, the slaw was fresh and flavorful, light and crisp fish batter wasn't greasy. Perfect way to end a day of outdoor recreation at a place with awesome boat-themed decor. It's a fun and casual alternative to the supper clubs and the food is just as good. Remember that it's cash/check only and seating is limited. Take out is an option. Great place to stop during your Up North visit!

We've been visiting the Phelps area for the last three summers and finally decided to stop here. We left saying that was one of the best meals we've had in the area. Besides the atmosphere (outside you sit in boats), our waitress Holly was fantastic, and the food was great. The menu isn't huge but the options are great and they smoke their own meat. We had some other smoked meats down the road and this brisket and pulled pork was far superior. The salmon sandwich was delicious too!

First things first: bring cash or a checkbook -- they do not accept credit cards or mobile pay options. Second: Yelp! lists this restaurant as "classy." But it's very casual. We came here twice while up in the area for vacation and sat on the patio. They've converted old boats into seating, which is fun. They also have a small patio for lawn games to keep kids occupied and let out some energy. Both times we had to wait for a table, and they don't take reservations. Service was also a little slow, so don't go if you're in a hurry. That said, the staff were attentive, kind, and told us in advance the (small) kitchen can get backed up pretty quickly. The food was good, especially for the area. The garlic cheese curds are a must have! The fish tacos (technically a burrito) were also tasty! Multiple people in our party ordered bbq and liked it. They also have fish and chips. We tried perch, which were fine -- a little soggy. They have a good list of craft beers from local 'sconie breweries. They also have good flavored ice teas. If you're into dessert they also have an ice cream counter inside with a rotating variety of Cedar Crest brand ice cream flavors.

Smoked salmon roll. Tasty slaw!

Stumbled on this awesome place while out on a bit of a north woods exploration. The wife and I were going to share something but after seeing the menu we decided to each order. I had a really delicious smoked salmon roll. Nicely presented and easy to eat without making a mess! The wife had their chicken sandwich but in a wrap. Great tasting aioli on board as well as delicious bits of chicken. The coleslaw is slightly different than at most places and really good. The fries are awesome! They smoke their own meats and they sell ice cream. Need I say more? Go there! We will be back!

We ordered bulk carryout a week in advance for a group. The brisket, pork and salmon were each nicely packaged, hot and fresh. It reheated well in a low oven. The wood smoke taste was delicious, tender and perfectly cooked. Try the onion tanglers and the homemade chips! Great sides.

Celebrating summer at The Boathouse in Conover, WI.

This place is truly one of a kind and so much fun for families! The decor is made out of boats, boat parts, hand painted wood skis, paddles, etc. You actually sit in repurposed boats! great hand dipped ice cream (plus a grille). Owner operated and they are so friendly and helpful. One extra special touch is that they put a little Swedish fish "swimming" in the bottom of each child's cone. I highly recommend it!

The decor alone made me fall in love with this little gem. I love the boats that were repurposed into seats. The atmosphere is cozy and the owners were so very lovely. We didn't have a chance to get anything from the grill, but we did have the ice cream. The kids loved the vanilla and the Superman ice cream. My sister tried the coconut explosion, which was kinda like a ice cream version of an Almond Joy. Yummy! I had the Deep Dish Apple Pie ice cream which was outstanding. Perfect balance of apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Next time we're in Conover, we will definitely be heading there!

I mention this to give credit to the female bartender who was hustling her tail off. Once seated she came over and took our drink order. THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I WILL SAY ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THERE WAS NO DRINK MENU. Our gin and tonic, brandy old fashioned, white Zinfandel, and Bloody Mary with a chaser came out extremely fast. A perch dinner, beer battered fish fry, chicken tender, and a classic burger were ordered. We waited about 20 minutes for our food to arrive. My 3 piece beer battered cod was flaky and not greasy. My husband's perch came with 2 large filets and he said he really liked it. Chicken tenders are chicken tenders and hard to mess up haha. My dad said his burger was flavorful and juicy. For all 4 of us ordering food and having alcoholic beverages, our bill came to a little over $100. The bartender thanked us for our patience since she was the only person working, but we didn't feel we ever waited a long period for anything. Will definitely be back.

Food was cooked well, came in large portions and at very reasonable prices. We got a combo basket as the starter and it came with so much food! We had the curds, tenders and jalapeño poppers. All of it was great but I just couldn't get over how much food was there! Also, great bloody Mary's and my spotted cow was only $2.50 regular price. As for the fish fry, you have the option of perch or haddock and your regular sides. I had the haddock and it was lightly breaded, not greasy at all and while nothing spectacular, it was good and satisfied my fish fry craving. I don't eat tarter but I heard from others in my group that it was kind of weird. Lastly, we had absolutely wonderful service. Our waitress quickly picked up our indecision and offered suggestions and was just very friendly and likeable. Also saw her talking to other tables with kids and she was so sweet and friendly. Also, we didn't get the pizza but it looked awesome! I definitely recommend checking this place out.

After dinner, we brought our half-full drinks to the bar so as to open the table for others. Dave,…read morethe bartender, basically ignored us for a good five minutes, preferring to talk to local regulars. We had to flag him down for refills on the empty glasses. His area was for only about 10 people at a quiet bar so he had to know we were sitting there with empty glasses. Then, after ordering another round of drinks, he immediately told people who entered the place that we were almost done and they could have our seats as we were leaving soon. We learned that Dave is a friend of the owner so guessing this is how the place is run. Why would we return for so-so food (spending over $200 for five people) and this type of service from the bartender?

What the heck this is a supper club on steroids. My son and I were able to be seating at the bar. He had the kids cheeseburger, I had side of Brussels, the beef tip appetizer, and the blue cheese wedge. Wow that wedge salad was amazing- the bacon was perfect, blue cheese great and it had a French dressing sauce as well. I have never had a wedge served that way and it was great. My son's cheeseburger was amazing. They use the left over meat from trimmings. Our server (perhaps owner I should have asked) said they don't want to be a burger place. Well I hear you but that kids burger was amazing. The beef tips were fantastic- great Dijon mustard sauce. It was a great meal! Crowd was up north Chicago style- but man the food is stellar. But the crab cakes hit it out of the park. The best I have ever had- yes- in the north woods the Crab Cake was the bomb. It was served on a wood plank with a red slightly spicy remoulade sauce. Two lovely thick cakes with lots of sweet crab meat. Made my entire week! I would just order these for dinner and add a salad on the next visit. Hubbie and I had the tenderloin infused with the garlic. So good. Cooked to perfection Medium. Our friend had the rib eye and ate every bite. His wife had the fish fry and enjoyed it but could not finish as she had stolen some of my crab cakes. Lovely atmosphere and not too big of a dining room. Such great service from a lovely group of all woman servers and bartender. I think this is our new favorite place to eat in the North Woods. Please do not do anything to that Crab Cake recipe. It is perfection
