A strange set of circumstances landed me at The Boathouse and I'm so glad they did. The owner, Carlos, was extremely welcoming and the place has a nostalgic Northwoods feel to it. We found our new up north Sunday brunch stop! Both the interior and the employees make you feel right at home from the minute you enter the restaurant. There's a small building for coffee/brunch, and a larger building with an outdoor covered patio for lunch/dinner. Bloody Mary's were delicious! The menu is very small, but all of us raved about our meals. Our group enjoyed breakfast burritos as well as eggs Benedict. I was able to order the breakfast burrito vegetarian which was appreciated. Also, their breakfast potatoes are FAB 10/10 cooked to perfection. The best part about our visit was the service. We were promptly greeted, and they went above and beyond to accommodate my toddler (making sure she had a high chair, offering milk and applesauce, etc). Way way overcooked, incredibly dry. And be ready - cash only. Claim they can't get a signal for credit cards yet they offered WiFi. I just hate when the first time you find out it's cash only is when they hand you $75 bill. Nowhere does it say cash only - not on the door, not on the menu, not on the wall, nowhere. Friday night fish fry was great. Three cheers for the walleye. Everything was good - BBQ beans weren't too sweet, the slaw was fresh and flavorful, light and crisp fish batter wasn't greasy. Perfect way to end a day of outdoor recreation at a place with awesome boat-themed decor. It's a fun and casual alternative to the supper clubs and the food is just as good. We've been visiting the Phelps area for the last three summers and finally decided to stop here. We left saying that was one of the best meals we've had in the area. Besides the atmosphere (outside you sit in boats), our waitress Holly was fantastic, and the food was great. The menu isn't huge but the options are great and they smoke their own meat. First things first: bring cash or a checkbook -- they do not accept credit cards or mobile pay options. Second: Yelp! lists this restaurant as "classy." But it's very casual. We came here twice while up in the area for vacation and sat on the patio. They've converted old boats into seating, which is fun. They also have a small patio for lawn games to keep kids occupied and let out some energy. Both times we had to wait for a table, and they don't take reservations. Service was also a little slow, so don't go if you're in a hurry. That said, the staff were attentive, kind, and told us in advance the (small) kitchen can get backed up pretty quickly. The food was good, especially for the area. The garlic cheese curds are a must have! The fish tacos (technically a burrito) were also tasty! Multiple people in our party ordered bbq and liked it. They also have fish and chips. We tried perch, which were fine -- a little soggy. They have a good list of craft beers from local 'sconie breweries. They also have good flavored ice teas. Stumbled on this awesome place while out on a bit of a north woods exploration. The wife and I were going to share something but after seeing the menu we decided to each order. I had a really delicious smoked salmon roll. Nicely presented and easy to eat without making a mess! The wife had their chicken sandwich but in a wrap. Great tasting aioli on board as well as delicious bits of chicken. The coleslaw is slightly different than at most places and really good. The fries are awesome! We ordered bulk carryout a week in advance for a group. The brisket, pork and salmon were each nicely packaged, hot and fresh. It reheated well in a low oven. The wood smoke taste was delicious, tender and perfectly cooked. Try the onion tanglers and the homemade chips! Great sides. read more

This place is super cute and my family and I came here twice during our trip. The food is fantastic and the owner came out to tell us all about the place, which is great! The second time we came, they were busier and it took about 45 min to get the food which kind of sucked, but was understandable for how busy they were! The only thing they need to do is just train the server a little better. The first time we went she didn't know the chips were homemade, which we found out the second time. I think she'll seem less flustered if she knew the menu better. All and all we'll be back and I hope this place becomes a staple when we come up every year! read more

The decor is made out of boats, boat parts, hand painted wood skis, paddles, etc. You actually sit in repurposed boats! great hand dipped ice cream (plus a grille). The decor alone made me fall in love with this little gem. I love the boats that were repurposed into seats. The atmosphere is cozy and the owners were so very lovely. We didn't have a chance to get anything from the grill, but we did have the ice cream. The kids loved the vanilla and the Superman ice cream. My sister tried the coconut explosion, which was kinda like a ice cream version of an Almond Joy. Yummy! I had the Deep Dish Apple Pie ice cream which was outstanding. We love The Boathouse! We make sure to go here for ice cream every time we are in town. The owners are lovely and the boat-themed decor is really fun. They have a nice variety of ice cream flavors (Shipwreck and Coconut Explosion are my favorites). My kids love that they put a Swedish fish candy in the bottom of their ice cream cone and look forward to that every time we are there. :) A great place to go on a summer night! read more

This new Grill & Creamery has a delightful charm. We stopped in for ice cream after having grilled out and done a night lap around the lake. The serving sizes on the ice cream were just right. Many places feel that they have to charge $7 and give you half a gallon of ice cream in a waffle cone. The Boathouse gets it right with a smaller serving size for a reasonable price. I like the knick nacks in the store. Some new, some old. It is a nice feel and sets the mood right for ice cream or perhaps a snack on our next visit. When we came in on Saturday evening they were playing live music under the porch, very nice touch. I hope this place survives, many small town businesses have difficulty in the off season but we will be sure to visit year round (if they are open in fall/winter) when we are here just hanging out at the lake. read more

The Boathouse has the best smoked brisket around. The owner starts at 4 in the morning to od the smoking. Five stars aren't enough to describe the taste explosion of the smoke flavor and succulent texture. Our meal started with the tomato bisque soup that was out of this world as is terrific. Make sure you try it. The food is very reasonable priced and the décor is cool as you are actually sitting in a boat for your table. The Boathouse has a very cool interior and the seating is creative. While ordering on the small menu, they were out of multiple things or simply told us "we haven't made it yet". First off the way the boathouse is decorated is adorable- every detail possible went into mind with making this place to feel homie and you get to eat in your choice of boat, way too cool. The food was amazing and tasted homemade, the menu is simple but has so much flavor and very reasonably priced. The ice cream is the best I've tasted up here so far, they have so many different flavors not just your basic flavors. The owners are super friendly and will accommodate you anyway they possibly can to make sure your meal and visit is the best. We were searching for a restaurant north of Eagle River and my wife noticed a review for the Boathouse, which was just around the corner from our location at the time. Everything about this tiny spot was outstanding: the decor, the welcoming hosts and our meals. We split the fish tacos and the beef brisket. They slow cooked the brisket for many hours in their smokehouse, and the flavor and texture were heavenly. I'd not tasted brisket like this before. Went to the Boathouse Grill & Creamery last night and had one of the best dinner's I've ever had in a long, long time! Service was over the top, GREAT! The atmosphere was wonderful, so much to look at and the all around decor was so cute. Sitting in half a boat was one of the selections of tables to sit at! The Ribs were super, skinny onion rings, the best I've ever had! Now, The side of Cucumber & Tomato salad was so awesome I actually bought extra to take home! Unfortunately, I took what they had left and that was just about a cup full !! That salad was truly the best I've ever had ! Brought home 2 brisket sandwiches for my husband and a friend and they raved about it, that coming from a man who does not prefer meat ! I really have nothing to add other than towards the end of the season last year, they had live entertainment outside at the Boathouse. Hoping that they do that again. It's not major headliners, but just a fun relaxing evening with some good music, family and friends. And naturally the food and ice cream are very yummy!! They had a really good pot roast sandwich on special. The owners grills and slow cooks a number of their selections and they make things in small batches with ingredients that are fresh and homemade. It shows! It's a little place, but big on atmosphere and the quality of their food is unexpected for a place like this. It's right on Hwy 45, stop by and enjoy! We're glad we did!! read more
