Was here with 6 of my family touring Williamsburg. Stopped to do some wine tasting. Went to tavern to taste and have appetizer. Got poor service, they were chatty with themselves instead of us, water glass dirty,lots of flies and fruit flies around us,gentleman in kitchen swatting flies with wipe down towel and after our flight of wine served the glass of wine we ordered in the same wine glass without rinsing it out or exchanging the glass. We brought it to her attention and she still poured the wine in our glass. We ordered a meat platter and cheese platter that was good. The only thing about the place. read more

My wife and I were in town for our honeymoon and we came across the winery and we were pleasantly surprised! The prices were fair, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff was very friendly. We'll certainly return when we come to Williamsburg again! read more

One of my favorite wineries in the Virginia Area: the place looks great (outside, it has a small street that makes you feel like you are in the 18th century, while inside has a ton of wine decorations and different rooms), the wine is very decent and the staff is friendly. I recommend the regular tasting for $10 instead of the premium one ($15) since it gives you the same amount of wines (seven), plus there are not much better. In my opinion, the "wine by the glass" prices are higher than they should be for the quality of the wine they have (would not pay more than $7 for any of their regulars). read more

On Friday, July 8, we took the winery's 1:00 tour. Our host was Jeff. He gave an excellent 2 hour tour explaining the wine making process from the vineyard, through crushing, fermenting, bottling right through to the gift shop. We really enjoyed it. He gave us lots of information without being too technical. We learned a lot. Of course the best part of the tour was the wine tasting. Williamsburg Winery makes delicious wine and we sampled nine of them along with some cheese and crackers. Once again, Jeff guided us through the wines pointing out each one's characteristics and pointed out aspects of each wine to look for. I highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky enough to get Jeff, you're in for a real treat! read more

What a beautiful place this Winery is! I was truly amazed at the size of it from the moment we entered. Perhaps that's because I've never been to a winery? Nonetheless, the drive in was beautiful. Grape fields, beautiful buildings (not quite sure what each was dedicated to as I did not take a tour). We entered the tasting building & were greeted right away. There were two tastings to choose from. One for $10, the other had additional options for $15. Both come with a WW wine glass I believe. We went with the $15 option & chose a great variety of whites, reds & a dessert. Gail took care of us in the standing tasting room area. She was very knowledgeable about the wine selections we made & what they paired with best. We purchased two bottles on our way out. For a wine novice such as myself, it was a delight to find wines I truly enjoyed! In all it was a great experience. read more

My husband took me to the winery to stay one night for my birthday. We enjoyed the tour and even though he is not a wine person he still found some that he liked. The tour was fun and everyone had great changer service. My only complaint is there was a contractor of some sort using power tools at all hours of the night about our room and I was woken up so many times I got no sleep. I mentioned it to the staff and they were genuinely apologetic and had no idea he was working so late. I think if I had made a big fuss they would have compensated me, but that's not really my style. The food at the cafe was fancy and totally sufficient for me, but my husband being a hungry man had to supplement with taco bell afterwards. All in all it was lovely and relaxing, except for power tool at 2am fiasco. read more

My family and I came here to celebrate my sisters birthday. While we waited for our tour to start we met an awesome couple from Maryland Julie and Brad. They were club members and they informed us about our tour. Our tour guide was Joseph, and he was awesome. He was very informative and nice. Our group was awesome everything was just perfect. The wine and cheese was delicious. There were some wines we did and didnt like. My sister enjoyed herself it was a first experience for all of us. At the end of the tour we took pics with the tour guide and purchased the 2017 dry Rose which was our favorite! If you haven't tried wine tasting please come here and make sure you get Joseph for a tour guide, he is awesome! read more

My husband and I have visited the winery and stayed at the Wedmore Place (on the property) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This will absolutely be our last and final visit to the winery. My husband purchased a "package" which included a wine tasting, a $50.00 gift card to be used at the restaurant or the gift shop on the property, and breakfast the next morning. After the wine tasting, a visit to the gift shop where we purchased almost $100.00 worth of items, and then a couple of glasses of wine at the pavilion, we decided to walk over to Gabriel Archer Tavern to get dinner. As we walked in, we noticed there was an abundance of empty dining tables yet plenty of restaurant staff.. yet my husband was told "we couldn't be seated".. no questions asked and no explanation given.. did not matter that we were staying on the property, patronizing the business and NOT willing to travel off property for a hot meal! The restaurant staff were rude and unprofessional! We promptly walked back to the Inn and informed Joanne at the front desk, what had transpired. She did her best to get them to accommodate us, and when we walked back over to the restaurant and asked for a table, we were once again treated poorly and told "you can only sit here"... after receiving dirty looks from the staff and hostess, we decided to just order a coffee (which we were charged for) and that was it. We clearly did not trust the kitchen staff/wait staff with preparing and handling our food at that point. Let me say, NEVER a again! We were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary here and my husband put a lot of planning and effort into it. Our advice would be to steer clear of this place. There are entirely too many other decent, reputable wineries in the state of Virginia. Don't waste your time at this dump. read more

A wonderful little gem of a winery in Colonial Williamsburg. I've heard good things over the years, but never been here before. We found it rather easily about 10 minutes away from William & Mary. Parking is plentiful. From what we could see and hear about, the property is beautiful. An old, carefully decorated hotel. A fancy restaurant, Cafe Provencal. A tavern, The Gabriel Archer Tavern. Fields with grapes and grapes growing. The main building was built about 17 years ago, but is built to mimic an 00's style. Tour and tasting is less than $15 a person and there are coupons in promotional booklets all over Williamsburg. The wine tour was somewhat unimpressive because I thought we'd be able to see more of the land or something. Basically, we sent into the great hall where they have events, they pointed out the back lawn, and we saw the red and wine barrel fermenting area downstairs. Apparently, this is 1 of 4 wineries in Virginia that bottles its own wine! Jacob was our guide and he was just great as a tour guide! Enthusiastic with fun facts to weave into the narrative. Our tasting consisted of about 7 wines including: 2014 Trianon, Varietals: 75% Cabernet Franc, 25% Petit Verdot; 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon 90%, Norton 10%; and 2014 John Adlum Chardonnay, Varietal: 100% Chardonnay; I didn't dislike any of them except for the really sweet dessert wine. Pricing per bottle is $30's and up. Lunch at the tavern was really nice. We ate on the shaded patio. Water in glass carafe rubber cork bottles. I had the Gabriel Archer Tavern Salad - 10 Mouth is watering just thinking about it. Manakintowne Greens, Dried Cranberries, Toasted Pecans, Garlic-Herb Croutons, Raspberry Balsamic Vinaigrette. It's served "vegan" so I had them add in goat cheese. read more

I went to college in Williamsburg and never once even considered going to Williamsburg Winery. Probably because I thought wine was for old and/or rich people. But recently some friends recommended ye olde reserve tastinge at the Winery. So off we went. With said friends in tow, of course. The Winery feels like an extension of Colonial Williamsburg, with the historically replicated grounds and building. For $36 (I know!), you can do the reserve tasting which, actually, turned out to be surprisingly fun. Our guide, Leo, was informative and entertaining. We began with a tour of the winery itself, including tasting rooms outfitted with antique coats of armor, giant stone fireplaces reclaimed from a several hundred year-old French château, weathered flooring and exposed beams. We experienced the "wine museum," a small room where the Winery's owner has an antique wine bottle collection as well as some small exhibits about artifacts found on the grounds during excavation and building of the Winery. We toured the wine cellar where vintages were being aged in oak barrels. We saw the bottling machines and learned WW is one of the few VA wineries bottling their own wines on site. And then we were led to a room in the cellar where we had our private tasting. It was a really neat atmosphere, down there in the 45° chill behind a wrought-iron gate. Along with some delicious cheeses and fruits, we sampled nine wines starting with a sparkling white not produced by WW -- hunh? The rest included '09 Viognier, '09 Chardonnay, '07 Vintage Reserve Chardonnay, '05 Trianon, '06 Trianon, '05 Gabriel Archer Reserve, '08 Adagio, and a Late Harvest Vidal Blanc. We loved the Viognier, which had a slightly bubble gummy taste; the Gabriel Archer, the '05 Trianon, and the Adagio which, at $65 a bottle, was out of our price range. To my mind, WW is producing some really enjoyable wines. So, four stars for the experience as a whole. The wines were quite good and the tasting tour itself was nice. For $36 I would have liked to see a few more reserve wines included in the tasting. Still, an experience I'd recommend if you're in the area and looking for something to do other than tour ye olde haberdashery.* *This is not to knock Colonial Williamsburg, with which I am in love. read more

Bordering on one star. The only reason I can think to come here is because you want to see something half-historical, but you want to get a buzz while doing it. I guess this is your place. The place keeps that Williamsburg tourism thing going while offering an incredibly commercial/modern atmosphere. They have something like 30 wines there? Maybe more. If you do a tasting... you buy a ticket and you wait 15+ minutes to be called into this nice, huge room. Mostly empty. Just some wine in one corner and one chainmail armor guard... I didn't know colonial williamsburg-ians were knights of the round table. Anyway, while they have all those wines, you only try the ones that they put on the list on any given day. A total of 8. Bit of a rip, and ts all about the day you're there. I didn't care for it... really any of them. Very boring. They do offer a tasting of their 70 dollar wine, for five bucks. Wow, 5 dollars to then decide if I want a 70 dollar wine. I tried it, it was very good... merlot, with a blend. Very very good quality. Its too bad the rest of their wine isn't like that. read more

I took the basic winery tour and tasting here and for $10, it was a pretty good deal. The tour and tasting combined lasted for an hour and included a history lesson of the winery via a short video and a tour of the facilities with a basic overview of how the wines are made- from picking to bottling. For someone who is still new to the wine scene, this was perfect for me- very informative and easy to understand. It might be a bit boring for the wine kings and queens out there, but our older tour guide was very sarcastic and made it a fun experience. The tasting itself was just ok. We tried 3 whites and 3 reds, plus a dessert blackberry wine. None of the selections blew me away. I did appreciate that we got to keep our glasses! The setting itself is beautiful- I image during the warmer months it would be a great place to walk around a bit and take some memorable pictures. read more

Had an enjoyable couple of hours here at the Williamsburg Winery. For all the times my family and I have visited this area, we never thought to go to this local winery. Shame on us! My hubby and I started out with lunch at the restaurant on the grounds. We were both hungry and really didn't want to start tasting wines on a completely empty stomach. They had indoor and outdoor seating so since it was such a gorgeous day we opted to sit on the patio. It's a stone patio with vine covered trellises surrounding it. A really pleasant atmosphere. Prices were okay.....I always say what's expensive for Williamsburg is pretty common for Northern Virginia, so no sticker shock here. A curry chicken sandwich was $9, salads were $8-$9, and my turkey and havarti sandwich was $8.50. Our server was kind of no-nonsense. She talked rapid-fire and never smiled, but I don't think she was being rude. I guess she was just one of those no-frills types, so we overlooked her lack of warmth. After lunch, we meandered over to the building where tours and tastings are given. The staff there were very nice, warm and friendly. We had just missed a tour (they are given every half-hour) so we had to wait for the next one in about 15 minutes. The tour and tasting last about 50-60 minutes total. I wandered around the small gift shop and ended up chatting with one of the managers. Our tour began right on time and there were about eight of us in the group. They do bring you to a room and pop in a DVD to give you some background. The "movie" is about 7 minutes long and I did learn a thing or two, even after being around many wineries. Our guide was a bubbly person who made the tour fun. She brought us down to the cellar and talked about the barrels, the bottling process, etc. It was a little chilly down there but nothing you couldn't handle for the few minutes you are there. I always think it's fun to see the operations side of things, so checking out the oak barrels and taking in the aroma of the wines being bottled was interesting. Back upstairs, time for tastings! Although we were supposed to only get six tastes, our guide snuck in a few more (hopefully she doesn't get into trouble for that!) so we had a total of eight different wines. I didn't care for the raspberry-infused wine, it was too sweet (and I usually LIKE sweet). I always manage to find something I like, however, and this time was no exception. I have now been here three times, as three different groups have dragged me here, and I haven't enjoyed any of my visits. Everything is very mechanical, they just want to pour your wine and shoo you towards the purchasing area so they can bring another group in. They have won a lot of awards but I have learned by visiting so many wineries that to compete they must pay a decent amount and be able to provide an unreal amount of wine so many wineries (especially the small ones, which are almost always better) are unable to compete with wineries like the Williamsburg empire. Skip it and head down the road to New Kent or Gautheir, you aren't missing anything here. read more

I visited the Williamsburg Winery on Christmas eve while I was in town visiting some relatives. We were planning on having an early dinner at the winery restaurant, but since they were closing early that day for the holiday I chose to just do a wine tasting instead. For the wine tasting you could choose from two different levels. There was a tasting menu for $15, and a separate one for $6. With either choice you received a glass to use for the tasting and then to keep. I chose the $6 menu and tasted 3 whites, 2 reds, 1 blush, and a spiced wine. The tasting bar was in a separate area from the retail area. When I arrived there were a few other groups already in the middle of tastings and two attendants providing the samples. I was promptly given my glass and my first sample and then had to wait a few minutes for my second sample. The attendants each had their own groups and made the rounds through each one. Even with everyone starting their tastings at different times they did a great job at keeping track of what wine you were to be tasting next. The only downside is that is got pretty busy and it ended up taking me almost a full hour to taste my 7 samples. The staff was very knowledgeable about each individual wine. They explained the flavors very well and gave ideas for pairings for each wine. They have an extensive variety of wines to choose from. There is definitely something for everyone and for every budget. I ended up taking home three bottles that day: Governor's White, the Virginia Viognier, and Two Shillings red. It was tough to make a decision about which to buy, so I'm looking forward to going back and getting some more. I'm also planning to do the tour and reserve tasting. read more

Upon arriving we were greeted by a lady at the front desk whose sole purpose is to push you to away. She wasn't very personable and it was a foreshadowing for the rest of our visit. Once we made it to the Tasting room we were finally acknowledged by the gentleman and told to go over to the other side and wait. There were 5 other groups Tasting and only one person helping everyone. Due to this he was unable to spend time and discuss the wines with you. He gave you a 10 second description and moved on to the desk group. Sadly this took away from the experience even though the wines were satisfactory we could only think about the service we were receiving. We most likely will not be returning. read more

How many wineries have I been to in order to compare? None. Came here only because a friend is a bit of a wine connoisseur. On the drive in, we saw the fields of grapes. When we got closer: caught a glimpse of some barrels. The place is very casual. We decided not to take the tour because my buddy already knew what was up and that didn't really bother me because I really liked just free winging the place. Managed to browse around and check out the bottles of wines on display and barrels in another room. They have different rooms including a gift shop with nothing super interesting except nick-nacks to go along with your wine. But I managed to pick up a 09'bottle and a bag of these coffee beans dipped in chocolate. Decent wine and really enjoyed the coffee covered beans. As a souvenir, the host of the sampling session allowed me to keep my WW wine glass, so I have that has a little token for my memory there. The host informative enough on inquiries we had. This room we had samplings in reminded me of a big room in a lodge. It was big enough to host a small party or a banquet. It had a good view of an outdoor setting where guest could mingle. Not much more to say except, cool little winery experience to spend an hour or two. read more

Absolutely beautiful winery! My husband and I (with baby in tow) stopped by the winery after spending the afternoon in Colonial Williamsburg. We paid $10 each for a tour and tasting. We got there just in time to join a small tour that was just starting. You start with watching a short video on the winery, it's actually pretty interesting. After the video, the actual tour starts and you get to see the events area and where the wine barrels are stored. There's a small museum at the end of the tour before you get to the tasting room. The tasting consisted of 8 wines, our tour guide even threw in an extra. Honestly, I really wasn't a fan of a lot of the wines. I did like two of the whites...the James River White and A Mid Summers Night. Overall, we loved the tour. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgable. We will definitely be back when family is in town. read more

Moving to the mainland has its perks, that being able to go to a winery just like that. Now, I was there many months ago but I still remember how nice it was. I love the ambiance that seems to be present at wineries, must be something in the air. We came a little early and yes, I had the baby with me but no problem. I carried her through the tour and it went perfect. The guide even forgot that I had a baby with me LOL because she was being that good (Thank God!) They began the tour with a short video about the winery but unfortunately it was on a small TV in a small room with no acoustics so I could not hear a word. Next we were guided through the winery and introduced to how they made their wines. In the end came the tasting together with some cheese and crackers. The wines were all good, some better than the others, I do enjoy a good glass of wine and we ended up getting three bottles of wine on the way out. I can especially recommend the rose wine, I don't know if they have different wines but on a warm summer evening it is hard to beat having a glass of ice cold rose. I wish we had stayed for lunch as the restaurant there but duty called (meaning my husband) so home we went. I'm sure I'll get a chance next year to go try more wine, and eat some good food. read more

I have been twice, the first time was horrible (in which somehow my first review was removed) and decided to give it another shot just to be nice. Again did the tasting and tour, and again had the most condescending tour guide, who honestly did not know much about what he was talking about either. Having worked at a winery before, I had some simple questions about productions, and he spoke down to me and then didnt answer my questions. I am sure I couldve learned more about a stereo system from a deaf and blind person, than I learned from their associate about their facility. At one point he was explaining types of corks, and how they reacted with the wines. He proceeded to tell us that plastic corks can taint the taste a little (which they do) and that the wine we would be tasting today would be corked with this........... The wine they did have us taste, was at best 2/10. Many were produced with high residual sugar to cover flaws, or was slightly sour. Now, this was the standard tour and tasting however, I feel like if you want people to have a good look at your wines, you shouldn't give them the lowest quality stuff you make on the standard tour. I did buy their Gabriel Reserve, one of their higher quality, and still was not impressed. They are a large producer of VA wines, but yet have lost sight of quality in the process. They have a great facility and venue, but the wines are what counts. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

This is a fun tour to take, especially if you're on a budget. The tour we took was only $8, and you can find a coupon in the regional magazine they have at most hotels that will drop the price to $6. The video was a little cheesy, but you learn a little bit about the winery and the regional wines. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and kept it fun. We tried 7 different wines, which were all decent to very good. I'd like to come back and do the Reserve Tour, which is about $30 and takes you through the fields. I definitely recommend going to the restaurant across the way afterwards and get a bottle of your favorite wine from the tour (in our case, it was the Riesling), along with a cheese plate. read more

I've been here five times and each visit has been wonderful. I can't help myself and I always leave the winery with at least one bottle of wine because it's so delicious. Each time I've gone I've done a tour and tasting, which is reasonably priced. The tour is about twenty minutes and your tour guide shows you some pretty neat stuff. Like the barrels of wine and how it is made. The tasting is the best part of it all, of course. When I visited this past weekend, we tasted eight different wines, all of which I enjoyed. I especially enjoyed the 2013 James River White, 2012 Lord Botetourt Red and the Vin Licoreux de Framboise, which is a raspberry dessert wine. After having my eye on it for a couple visits, I bought a bottle. At the end of the tasting you can take home your glass! I love adding them to my collection at home each time. My next visit I am determined to do the reserve wine tour and tasting, which is a longer tour and tasting. The tour goes into more detail around the grounds of the winery and you get to taste a ton of different wines! I can't wait to go back! read more

So as promised, I returned for the reserve tasting. I recommend making reservations a couple weeks in advance (especially on the weekends) because it will fill up. They ask you to get there a half hour in advance, but we found that to really be unnecessary since we kind of just sat around until our guide came and got us in the lobby (although you should probably account for that terrible traffic situation around 64 when the lanes go from 4 to 2. Ugh). The tasting lasts for 2 hours and for the first hour and a half, you're basically walking around the estate (WITHOUT WINE) and listening to the guide drone on about barrels, vine diseases, and steel crushers. Look I get it, I like to learn about wine and how things work but I found the education portion of this to be mundane and about an hour too long and we all started to get a little stiff and tired of standing after the first hour and just wanted to sit down and drink some wine. Once your guide takes you into the final room where you will be tasting, that's when everyone really opens up anyway and starts asking questions and talking to each other so it's kind of annoying that we were rushed through that part because too much time was spent talking in the front end when all anyone really wants to do is sit down, drink and talk. We ended up getting ushered out because the next group was on its way in. That said, we tasted some very complex wines, even one of their "Library wines", which we were informed would be marked up substantially in the coming weeks over $100. Along with Barboursville, they probably have some of the best reds in the state of Virginia and seem to be quite the well-oiled machine. Our guide was pretty hard of hearing and we often had to repeat our questions and speak loudly, but overall it was an enjoyable experience that might be fun in a group. My only recommendation would be that maybe we should all start off with a glass of wine as we walk the estate and get to the tasting part sooner so that we can then address questions and educate ourselves further while also being comfortable. read more

We are avid VA wine drinkers and have visited numerous vineyards. We finally decided to cross Williamsburg Winery off our list. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. It was busy when we got there so we had to wait to be called for our tasting. When we entered the tasting area I was taken aback by the noise level. We could barely hear each other to have a conversation. The server who was very busy gave a brief inaudible description of each wine, quickly turning away to serve others. Leaning on planks balanced on barrels gave the feeling of a picnic, not a wine tasting. $15.00 for 7 wines us much more than other VA wineries charge and the wine was mediocre at best. This is not a VA winery that we will return to. read more

I would give negative stars to this place if I could. My mother, my sister and myself (three Mexican women) went to the wine tasting patio and were immediately told "I'm sorry we are full. You can buy a bottle of wine and enjoy it while walking around or sitting over there" (pointed to an area where nobody was sitting that was not apart of the wine tasting. Immediately after a white couple was seated. 5 minutes later a white family of five was seated. So were they full or were they racist? I'm gonna go with racist. Great experience, the tasting room was large and accommodating for large groups. Our host for the tasting was quick, but we did not feel rush, and had great suggestions. When you need to purchase the wine, most of them is not on display, you will need to ask for it, which can take a while if everyone is busy to assist you. read more

The weather was a bit chilly and wet (snow in Williamsburg in late March?), and the vineyards were bare, so the outdoors was nothing picturesque. That aside, we had a great visit after eating a light lunch at the on-site tavern. The wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our reserve tasting. The two of us were with six others for a excellent tour of the winery and a tasting in the library while the regulars tasters could only look in on our private tasting. All the wines were good, and the Adagio was my favorite. Wine snobbery aside, if you enjoy wine and can talk about it at any level, do the reserve tasting. Tom was a good tour guide and conversed well with the group. Pros: Wines. Knowledgeable tour guide. Atmosphere in the library for tasting. Selection of cheeses (all available at The Cheese Shop) Cons: The single condiment tray in the center of the table was a bit difficult to manage for the group. Never sat down for the two-hour tour. Winery: plenty of parking. Cute facility. Lots of items for purchase that are useful. Tour: I purchased the $12 tour. The tour guide seemed very new due to lack of information and nervous ticks. She was unable to give detailed information and answer questions. She was very nice. Wine tasting: the wine selections for the tasting were great! I liked most of the wines which never happens. Crackers and cheese are provided. After the tour, I requested to taste asagio wine since it was not in the tasting. They were happy to provide this. Staff: all the staff was wonderful and helpful. Once here is enough. I was traveling through in mid-November. I decided to stop and buy some wine. Other than diners, there were no other customers in the retail shop. First, if I'm buying wine, I think I should be able to taste it without having to pay their rather high prices for the tasting. Otherwise, I'm just as well off to go to a wine shop where the staff are for sure more helpful and knowledgeable about the wines they sell than the staff working here are this winery. The young lady begrudgingly brought me a swallow of their Acte 12 Chardonnay. It was fermented half in oak and half in stainless. It was rather flat. For about $22, I would recommend you save your money and buy a good California Chardonnay for a lot less. Secondly, the staff are very rude here. I was in the process of picking out some bottles of their basic whites (Governor's, James River) and their Spiced wine. I had my little poodle with me, and she showed me the door and would not let me complete my purchase [note there was no sign indicating pets were not allowed]. read more

Great landscapes and scenery on the drive to the winery and walking around. We decided to take the winery tour on a Saturday afternoon for $10. Overall the winery was not crowded and after talking the tour I understand why. The tour was scheduled for an hour, 30min for touring, 30min for tasting which quickly turned into 45 mins of "let me tell you why you should have your wedding here" and 15min of shots of wine. I found the tour guide condescending and rude at times. I'm not new to wine tasting and when you give me 1min inbetween the next pour without rinsing my glass there is no possible way to "appreciate" the wine. We left the tasting uninformed, and put off. Waiter. There's a bug in my food! I'll get to that soon. But from the onset we knew we were involved with a subpar dining experience. Hostess sat us 4 FT from a 4 ft industrial fan on a stand. The equivalent would have been to be seated behind the turbine of a 747. We asked to be moved. We were moved. 5 min later we were told they needed our table so we were moved again. Wife ordered a glass of wine. She enjoyed it. I ordered iced tea. My glass had a clump of lip stick stuck to the rim of the glass. I don't wear lip stick. Gross. Food came and I noticed my prime rib sandwich bread was not as advertised- they used a hamburger bun that was wet. After about 3 mins into eating my wife noticed a surprise guest in her food - pic attached. Marginal apology mixed with all other elements of this experience have us giving this place a down check. Btw - this was no ordinary outing. We were celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary. We live in Williamsburg - would have loved to support a local establishment but can not in good faith. Sorry to cut this short - we're hungry - going to get something good to eat. read more

The folks at Williamsburg Winery are nice and the logistics of how they handle wine-tasting are well thought-out. Sadly, the wines are not interesting. I do have to include the caveat that I generally prefer French wines to other wines, but I think that anyone who regularly buys wines at the prices Williamsburg Winery sells theirs for will be disappointed. Jim Law at Linden makes some wonderful wines and both New Kent and Saude Creek in the Williamsburg area make reasonably good wines, so it's not that I am biased against Virginia. In addition, two older women who tasted wines next to us and who did not seem at all "wine-snobby" found the wines equally unexciting. One of the red wine blends was nice enough, but since they were asking for $32 for that one, we deferred. Had it been a $15 bottle, we'd have bought one. I honestly think that they must be over-producing their wines -- that is, allowing too many grapes to remain on the vine over the course of the year in order to produce a greater volume of far-less interesting wine. If they were to cut them back and reduce the tonnage of grapes per acre, each grape would have more character and the wines would be more interesting. On the other hand, they're the only winery right next to a touristy destination and I'm sure they sell a massive quantity of their wines. So, why change to satisfy me? One of their sweet wines contains raspberry juice. If that offends you, you'd hate this place. If you think it's an interesting concept, don't let me hold you back, but do watch you wallet as the wines are not priced cheaply. As noted, I'd suggest both Saude Creek and New Kent ahead of this place. read more

We came here for the reserve tasting where you taste the higher level more vintage wines all for $15 a person. We've always done the tour with the tasting and not just a tasting alone. But with just the tasting you bring your tickets to a large room where you hand them to a worker and they start the process. It takes a while bc there is a lot of people there and about 3 workers so after each one you gotta wait about 5 or 7 minutes. My favorite was the 2012 Adagio, it was amazing. My boyfriend who doesn't care for reds really enjoyed it as well. They were really busy bc of 2 weddings being set up so it was a little hetic but hey I love wine tastings. read more

My wife and I did this on a whim while staying in Williamsburg and we are both so glad that we did . we purchased the tour tasting and lunch on there website and it was a great price for the two of us and the tour was lead my a very knowledgeable girl and the tasting was very enjoyable and the lunch blew my mind , so good . Worth every cent and thank you to the winery for making our trip that much more memorable . read more
