I can't lie, Winchester isn't my favorite. To me, everything is just okay. I'm not the biggest fan of the food selection, but I'd still recommend giving it a try since so many people love it. It could just be a personal preference! The service is always great, they do try to be accommodating and inside/patio area is cute. My friends enjoyed their Naan and French club sandwiches. I'll have to try the Naan next time as that seems to be a popular choice. The kale Caesar is good, I enjoyed that! I did not like my lamb gnocchi, but again personal preference, that was a special. Staff was awesome (friendly, attentive without being smothering, helpful). Food was tasty and came out pretty quickly. Lamb Gnocchi - lamb was flavorful (cubed bits throughout), the couple of sugar snap peas were fresh and cooked just right (wish there'd been more), the gnocchi itself was excellent. I thought the sauce was a bit much (too much of it and too much flavor/too salty), and it could've had less bread crumbs. Not sure if this dish was supposed to be lukewarm...Without the sauce and excessive amount of breadcrumbs, this dish is easily an 8.5-9/10, but too much sauce & breadcrumbs I have to give it a 6.85/10 Fish & chips - tried my gram's fish and chips. Outside of the batter being pepper heavy, the batter was perfect. It wasn't too thick, it wasn't soggy or over done, literally just the right amount of crunch. The 2 filets were quite big and the fish wasn't dry, nice and flaky. The fries were like old school McDonald's (so when they used to be good and had flavor...). I'm not a fish and chips person, or a pepper person, but from what I tried of this one, I'd say it's an 8/10. Desserts - if you want something light and summery and you don't mind the taste of basil, get the Matcha Tres Leches (green dessert). I went to the Winchester recently with my parents and had an overall good experience. The interior is really nice and chic without being overthetop or uninviting. The restaurant itself is in a great location on Wealthy Street with street parking and walkable shops and parks nearby. The menu is eclectic with a variety of different dishes from a multitide of cuisines. We ordered everything from fish sandwiches to butter chicken to gnocchi. Everything was really good and well seasoned but the portions were a little small for the price but still tasty. The service was attentive without being overbearing which was wonderful. I wanted to like The Winchester. It's a nice little spot in a busy section of Wealthy Street. Unfortunately our lunch experience was pretty substandard. Our server was really good. Friendly, attentive and she knows the menu. I wish I could say something good about the food. We ordered the pork lettuce wrap starter. I don't mind filling the wrap myself. But the lettuce was so hard that it broke apart as soon as you tried to wrap the pork, spilling all the contents on our plates. Even worse, within a couple minutes of getting the starter, the manager delivered our mains. I absolutely hate when that happens, and I hated the manager's response even more. He offered to take it away and bring back when we finished the starter. I asked him "Won't it just get cold?" to which he responded "Yes". So I said to just leave the food at the table... If the kitchen can't time the delivery of food to the table it's an immediate fail. And if the manager dismisses the poor performance of the kitchen then I really don't know what to say. We finished the app as quickly as we could only to be treated to a dried out smash burger and luke warm fries. I complained to our server about the mains coming with the starter. Her response was "Yeah the kitchen does that sometimes." Seriously? There are too many good restaurants around here to ever think about coming back to The Winchester. I was going to leave a 2 star review, but after reading what I wrote in this review, I was tempted to change it to one star. I still left our server a good tip because she really was very good despite her dismissal of the kitchen's poor performance and the managers unacceptable response. This spot gets a lot of great reviews so maybe we were unlucky, but I just can excuse the performance of the kitchen and the manager's response. read more

It is a beautiful space with lots of wood and twinkle lights. The service is always nice - I've never had anything but attentive servers who make sure I am happy! Now for the food - there is medium size menu with some shareables, sandwiches and main entrees. I always go for a shareable and a salad. Another great place in Grand Rapids. Stopped in one night wanting to have some cocktails outside. The patio area is nice and quite large. My review is solely based on cocktails. We had already eaten. They do have a large food menu. I really like their cocktail offerings. They make a lot of infusions and homemade syrups. I can't remember the name of the one I ordered the first night but it was a Chamomile Simple, Thyme, Gin cocktail.. I really enjoyed it. Sadly it was gone the next time I came in. I counted my check ins and I've been to The Winchester at least 145 times over the past 13 years. Wow! I used to live a few blocks away, so I was a regular there for dinner, brunch, happy hour, and drinks on their patio. I don't go as often anymore, but whenever I do, I always wonder why I stopped going so much after moving further away. It's one of those spots that's consistently good. I've never really had a bad meal at Winchester, and service is usually very good. The bar is a bit dark and moody inside towards the back and always gives me Chicago vibes. The patio is completely enclosed and heated, which makes it a great spot for those early and late patio season days. They do have some designated parking spots in their adjacent lot, but they fill up quickly. Street parking nearby is pretty easy to find. The menu is a bit unique, which I love. They have great burgers and sandwiches, as well as some large plates and share items. The options change pretty regularly, but some of my favorites are the naan club (all time favorite), crispy Brussels sprouts, and the grilled chicken Caesar wrap. They also have brunch on Saturday and Sunday, a nice cocktail menu, and a short draft list. Happy hour is Monday-Friday, 3-6pm and burger night is every Monday, where you can get a drink + a burger for a deal. The Winchester is still one of my all-time favorite spots. It's like an old friend - no matter how long you go without seeing each other, it always feels comfortable when you reconnect. read more

I will say that the food that I ordered was prepared, thoughtfully and packaged beautifully. In sustainable containers with adorable stickers. The kitchen workers or servers must do a good job boxing up to go orders. I had the Kale Caesar salad, and a really yummy burger with cucumbers and goat cheese or feta on it. I don't even remember, but I was absolutely delicious and the kale salad hit absolutely perfectly late at night after a couple of gummies. (What, it's legal.) The kale salad was beautifully dressed with toasted bread crumbs and delicious cheese and I would recommend that burger to anyone! By the outdoor dining space is a green space with picnic tables and yard games like cornhole.
