I used to summer in Windsor, VT in the early 70s and the Windsor Diner would always be the spot for me and my friends, Jerry and Joyce. I love the coffee and more importantly, the conversation. I came back last month for the first time in three decades and I was happy to see things have not changed much. I ordered the BLT I used to get as a young man and it was ebullient as ever. I also recommend the french fries and gravy - it's a tribute to our neighbors to the north. The Canadians know French Fries. If you happen to find yourself in Windsor with your friends, family, significant others, boy toys, or business colleagues - I say take them to the Windsor Diner. good homemade comfort food, which is what I expect from a diner. too many diners take shortcuts with their food, but this place had sweet and cakey homemade pancakes with fresh apple chunks in them, freshly cut fries, decent coffee and very reasonable prices. I am used to 15 page diner menus ala NJ, but this place had a small but nicely rounded menu- everything that you would expect a diner to have. my burger was cooked to my satisfaction, and the help was nice. all around good diner. read more

I like eating at diners and this place is a favorite. I am in Windsor a couple of times each year and I always look forward to having breakfast here. They make a home-made hash which is like a New England Boiled Dinner in hash form with some secret seasonings, it is incredibly good and I order it every time. The staff is pleasant and friendly, but not too friendly- a refreshing and honest change from the over-the-top fake smiles of the chain places. Where do I start? I never write reviews but I must this time. Stay away if u have kids and Friendly service as a previous reviewer wrote... That's funny. My dad said "good morning" very audible and no response. The server/hostess has no patience and treated us with discrimination. The food was average but who knows if the food was spit on with her demeanor. But the service really just killed our day. They should really just put a sign at the door if they don't want kids inside this Diner. Stay away! We made a horrible choice being the other place we wanted to go to wasn't open till 11am and we didn't want to drive further since the kids were hungry. read more

Used to love this place and it was nice as it is about a 5 minute walk from our place. They use Wal Mart eggs (they stack cartons by the grill clear as day for all to see), that was my first put off, but everything was usually decent and their all you can eat haddock on Thursday is great. Then more and more, "specials" are cooked in the microwave (they have a few stashed). Usually edible but soggy and overpriced for what I consider leftovers. My girlfriend usually got the fried chicken which was some of the best I've had until it wasn't. I don't know if they started re frying or what but it went down hill along with sides that had been left out a bit past due, like coleslaw(ew dude). She got brave and started ordering the special the last 3 times we went (all for dinner as we found it worth while to travel a bit up the road for a fresh cooked breakfast). I always stuck with the fish which was never bad. However her food was always less than satisfactory. I will never forget the, "orange chicken" & white rice special. It was a good sounding deal at 6.99, but dang, it was just some reheated goey mush. Not nasty but scalding hot, sweet, very soggy, and kinda tasteless. She is very polite and never let it be known. The last 3 times I consider the 3 strike out visits that ended with service that was basically, "screw you". We were local forgiving frequent customers that always tipped well, and that really sat poorly with us and we have moved on up the road. Waiting 20 mins for a drink refill while you gab it up with I guess better customers is just not how you get someone back. Sorry gave you plenty of chances and we were always pleasant. 2 stars because I always dug the fish and you guys got creative the night the fryer went down. read more

Today I called in an order for pick up, and was told they were too busy to take my order and to call back later. Once I called back the lady on the phone acted like it was a complete inconvenience that I didnt only have one order.. she then said it would be 30 to 40 mins. When we went to get the food after 45 mins we were told that it still wasnt ready. While waiting I watched the cook use a shapchula on my omelet, then flip someone's french toast, then move a cheese burger and then went back to my omelet with the same spatchula! I am a vegetarian and that is also some serious cross contamination. Overall my veggie omelet tasted like a french toast burger . read more

Classic Worcester diner. It wasn't busy so we had good service. Good Coffee, fish and chips were fresh, fries were excellent. Everything was A-OK. We found it clean. The best part is the pies are made there. We had a slice of an awesome blackberry pie with ice cream. We will be back read more

I don't think I've been ignored (and scorned - but maybe that was just my inner Massachusetts chip on my shoulder...) so much as my family was at this diner. Wow, great location and could do so much. Chicken salad sandwich was sweet (yuck) and teeny-tiny. Shake was good. Salad was below basic. But the service - man, was it dismissive and rude. Like we encroached on their personal time, seriously. It is now a standard bearer for our diner experiences, and not for the right reason! We went to Vermont to pick up classic car and my nephew had a decal on a pickup truck he bought with a bumper sticker from Windsor Diner and asked us to stop and check the Diner out!! What a great place and friendly service! I'm the type who asks a thousand questions and loves to highlight on the past! The girls were very courteous and eager to help satisfy our inquisitiveness! I was the "belly clam" friend on Saturday at the Windsor Diner, I changed my order from the haddock special to the belly clam plate as well. For 20 years now, I've been going as well, and always looked forward to a visit. I've never been disappointed until now. For 27.00 you would think the basket would have had a fair share of seafood on it. I don't mind spending the money, but please make it worth it! The waitress was a funny, sarcastic 'Treasure"! I can't believe this place got any rating above two stars. We had four things -- salad with chicken strips, garlic bread, spinach soup and apple pie. The garlic bread was soggy, the chicken strip salad was tasteless, and you could not cut the apple pie crust with a fork; you had to use a knife. The soup was good. Okay comfort food and friendly staff. They charge for soda refills, almost $3 right there. However, unlike it specifies on Yelp, this restaurant does not accept credit cards. I remember going to this diner when we lived in town. I had breakfast there and it did not impress me. It was gross. I'm not the first person to say something about the food. But it was gross. Tonight my in-laws ordered dinner there. I ordered a chicken salad. For $8.50. Half the size of the one pizza chef gives you for the same price. In a soggy cardboard to go box. I ended up ordering pizza chefs salad as well. I had a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. The first bite I took, I knew there must be something wrong with it. But I figured restaurants are supposed to follow guidelines with handling their food. Well everyone who ate the mashed potatoes became sick to their stomach. They tasted like they sat in the fridge for 2 or 3 weeks uncovered and reheated They charge enough for all this food- it should be good quality. Not to mention the fries. Someone else mentioned they were fried in old brown oil. That's exactly what it looked and tasted like. The chicken did not look like chicken. The haddock dinner my in-laws ordered was supposed to be all you can eat. Instead there was one thin strip of fish. This place really needs to step it up. The atmosphere walking in was very welcoming and friendly and homey. The service was extremely quick, but not rushed at all. The waitress was friendly and very thorough to make sure you got exactly what you wanted for your food. It was an absolute perfect experience for a first timer from Texas. If you enjoy pretty standard american diner breakfast food, you will enjoy Windsor Diner. The menu isn't fancy and the food is pretty much what it says it is. My mother was from Windsor. To see the downtown now in comparison to what it was say 50 or 60 years ago is sad. They just can't keep businesses running. This diner has had it's up and downs too as I recall. But when I get into town, if it is open I sometime stop just to absorb the atmosphere inside this old Worcester car diner which the sign inside says was delivered in 1952. The banter of the waitresses and the one older maie customer who keeps talking and talking whether anyone is listening to him or not can be a fun local experience. You get the traditional 'do I know you or not' as you get eyed up and down when entering; little do they know my Windsor connection. Since it's a Worcester car, booths and stools are available, as well as a small side room where a buffet is conducted once or twice a week. Standard diner fare is offered with occasional specials and homemade desserts. I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich which was fine. I had some really outstanding sweet coleslaw, as a side - yum! For dessert, I had the house made apple crisp, which was good though microwaved. The food was slow in being prepared and cooked, but once it was the server brought it right over. I'd recommend you stop in when you're driving along the Main St. Good steady food, reasonable prices. And I'd hate to see them close again, like they did several years ago. Friend & I stopped in here after finding out the place we were trying to go was "closed for the season". What a blessing to stop in here. Fried Fish was sooo good (& generous) the fries homemade & NOT suffocated in salt & the coleslaw was really good (& cold ---not room temp.) Has the best (homemade) banana cream pie that I've ever had. My friend had homemade blackberry which was not sickeningly sweet. It was clean, water glasses & silverware unspotted & sparkly clean. Waitstaff friendly, funny (funny haha, not odd!), and efficient. Prices good. Obvious they have faithful followers & we could understand why. Next time will go for breakfast. read more

This grubby little place may satisfy diner-philes, but my experience today was less than satisfactory. It's dirty; the windows look as though they haven't been cleaned since who knows when, and the general greasy look inside numbs the experience. I ordered a burger basket with LTO and although cooked as requested, the lettuce had brown edges and the fries were pathetically limpid, hand-cut grease sticks. The price for the combo basket was reasonable, but then I got bagged $4 for two glasses of ice with some tea and a slice of lemon in them (same slice, no less). That made the meal seem like more of a rip-off than a good value. Next time I'm in Windsor I'll find another place to eat. read more

We live in the area and have repeatedly tried over the past few years to see if anything has improved. The only thing I can see is another layer of greasy dirt. The food quality is below par. They use the cheapest product they can buy, I am sure, which only makes horrible meals. When the owner is only concerned how quickly she can pay off her loan instead of having meals that people will return for she may not be open to the end of her loan. Great business plan!!! read more

Cute place. Good service. Reasonable prices. Sat at counter. My eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast were good. Choc chip pancakes had about four mini chips in them. The pancake part was so bland. Cinnamon may have helped. But you shouldn't need it. French toast was bland too. First of all let me tell you it is not Dans anymore. It is Marq's Windsor Diner! I thought it said Marg on his T Shirt and I read it out loud, Im glad I wasnt thrown out!! My 9 year old son loves pie and 3 had just come out of the oven thanks to Marqs wife. We sat right in front of the pies at the counter and had the best cheeseburgers,EVER! With homecut french fries and yummy cole slaw. Marq, his wife and the other waitress there (sorry I didnt get your names) were so fun with all their banter! And the pie, to die for! My son got the chocolate cream (I was lucky to get a bite) and we brought home a piece of the apple , still warm out of the oven and at least 8 inches high, for our friend , who said it was the BEST ever! We come to Vermont 4 times a year, this our new Funky Diner! (That was for you Marq, LOL!) We will be back, cant wait! read more

crackers for soup were stale. french fries were fried in old oil-they were dark brown and tasted terrible. my dad's pancakes were falling apart to crumbs when i cut them for him. waitresses were talking to this man who they called daddy. they were pulling pranks on him and were obnoxiously loud. terrible experience and the worst food we have ever had. my mom said its not nearly as good as she remembered it to be years ago. read more
