Great little store. Excellent selection of domestic and foreign beer. Great selection of wine and spirits. Delicious cheeses. I used to think it was expensive but having started paying more careful attention I realize the premium is usually only $0.50-$1 versus other places - and their cheese is far cheaper than Savenors and every bit as good. I nearly always go to W&C to buy wine. The wine staff is very knowledgable. There is also none of the humiliation factor one finds at some other wine shops. I might ask them to help me put together a case (always 10% discount and sometimes 20%) in the $10 -$15 range. They are courteous and and they don't make me feel like a an idiot or a boor. read more

We bought all the alcohol for our wedding in October 2011 at Wine & Cheese Cask, and could not recommend them more highly. They worked with us to select wines for our tasting we would like, then provided cases of what we chose at a discount, and took back unopened wine after the wedding. Planning a small wedding reception and went to The Wine & Cheese Cask for some beverage suggestions. The guy that helped us was fantastic - none of the hew-hawing about whether we liked oaked or unoaked. We needed a white, a red, and a Champagne. He just picked a great set of wine (and he kept price in mind, in addition to giving us a discount). Fantastic, and fast, experience. Plus, there's parking. read more

I like going here and have been for a few years but won't be going back. I bought a six pack, brought it home, and found out later that the sixth beer had been opened and was half empty. I told the clerk about it and he said he was sorry to hear that. I didn't tell him it was the second time this has happened since he couldn't have cared less. It's too bad. read more

I had a very mediocre experience here. On the one hand, the selection of cheeses is pretty great (if on selection only, it would've gotten a 4 or 5). On the other hand, the woman who helped me was less than enthusiastic about her job and pretty unhelpful because of that. You'd think that a person who worked at a specialty shop would be passionate about whatever made that store so special. I went in to try something new and asked for recommendations -- said that I was looking for these types of tastes and told her what cheeses were my favorites. She looked at me blankly. When I asked for something with a mushroom-like aftertaste, all she could recommend was cheeses infused with truffle. I want to walk into a cheese shop and have someone who's just excited about flavors as I am, but she seemed completely uninterested. I did, however, ask if they had a certain type of cheese, and another woman (who was slightly more friendly) wrote it down with my # and is going to ask the owner. That's cool. Well what can I say that you don't already know? A great selection of cheeses from all over the world, cut to order...but not for those living on a budget. The wine is what really has brought me in over the past five years. A great selection of American, Italian, and an entire separate room dedicated to the greatest wine producing country in the world...you guessed it, France. Pricing on the wines is a bit above what you should be paying. But here's the catch...the staff at the counter is absolutely horrible. I don't know if they only recruit disenfranchised 20 something year-olds to work the counter, but they make the customer service experience at the Massachusetts RMV look like Breakfast at Tiffany's. I was there this evening dropping another $80 on three bottles of wine and two pieces of cheese, and I left wanting to tell the "woman" behind the counter what a miserable slice of urban life she represented. But being the gentleman that I am, I wished her a nice weekend, went home, and swore I would never step foot in there again. Here's an alternative for you...go to Kappy's in Everett for a great (even better) selection of the same wines with better prices, and buy your cheese at Whole Foods Market. You'll get service with a smile and save quite a bit of money! read more

I used to come here frequently when I lived in Cambridge and always got good advice and good wines. I was recently given a $100 gift with the requirement that I splurge, so I went to WCC to find a couple of good bottles of wine. I got some advice from one of the salespeople who has always steered me right in the past, and one of the bottles I got for New Year's Eve was $55 bottle of Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz. It was just this side of vinegar. I was throwing it out when my wife insisted I take it back - that they'd want to make it right. I've only returned two bottles of wine in my life - both in restaurants and they were unpleasant experiences - waiters who tried to make me feel guilty for my judgment of their wine. But I did so, and was very pleased with the response. No questions asked, they apologized, and offered me a $70 bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape in exchange. I haven't tried this one yet, but I liked the response and it makes me want to go back to being a regular customer. As a customer, I always hate to complain, and it's a pleasure when they make it easy. read more
