We had a reservation at 6 o'clock and we were seated immediately. We had an 8 o'clock show in the building to go to, so we thought we had plenty of time. our server confirmed that. Drinks were delicious and the wine was very good. We enjoyed the appetizers, especially the nachos and the Caesar salad was tasty. Service was fairly slow, which was disappointing because by the time we got our entrees there was no time for dessert. Now to the entrées, the black cod was delicious as was the cheesesteak. Two of us ordered the papparadelle al Limone and we added Burrata to it. The pasta was made in house and was made well, but the Burrata on top was so cooked that it was like rubber and the pasta was in a watery butter sauce that had zero flavor. If we weren't out of time and needed to get to the show, we definitely would've sent it back. It was that bland. I can't remember the last time I sent anything back, but this would've been one of those times. I would go back to the restaurant because I like the vibe but you would have to do a lot of convincing for me to ever order that entrée again. I was torn between giving it four stars or three. However when we moved indoors, we got serviced quickly! Got a medium well burger (with bacon added). It was pretty standard in terms of taste - only surprise came with the fries which were disappointing as they lacked salt and seemed kinda burnt. Well go through the good and the bad... I was excited to try Mabel's after seeing their tiktok videos and menu. Who wouldn't like the vibes, the setting, the environment and the food. Set into such a cute background it's hard to pick apart the scenery. I met my friends and we sat in the lounge area. It was comfortable, cute, we loved it. I settled for the yoshi drink (it was matcha based and quite amazing!) my friend had the rotary which he said was great as well. We ordered a hodgepodge of appetizers and food to share amongst ourselves.. the oysters were good, they were small and didn't really justify its cost. Smashburger was exactly that, nothing mind blowing or memorable about it and we had no complaints. We got the focaccia with whipped ricotta and honey. But out came a focaccia with tomato sauce on top and Mozerella. We had to ask the waitress about it who replied the kitchen may have updated the menu and substituted that in its place... I don't know what your thoughts are but whipped ricotta with honey is not even in the same category as a glorified pizza cheese bread and our bellies really didn't want this imposter of a plate. But our waitress had it corrected. When it came back out we were met with the whipped ricotta and honey with bread which was great! But it wasnt focaccia... disappointing but if the menu was going to state focaccia than focaccia is what should be served not the sourdough bread we got.... So sad! their charcuterie nachos board was to die for, the meats sliced perfect and olives that were so fresh, it came on a board with beautiful presentation. We ordered cheese fries too but that was mediocre at best. We were there for a while so more drinks ordered. We had to send a rotary back because it was definitely not made with woodford reserve and had some other drink mixed into it. My friend had an internal meltdown because it was soo bad, accidents happen at the bar so our waitress personally watched the bartender remake it and it came back perfect and all was right with the world again for my friend... Now off to desserts. We had the 17 layer chocolate cake, the upside down pineapple cake sundae and the butterscotch pudding. The best one out of all of them was the butterscotch pudding. The upside down pineapple cake sundae was meh.. and Mabel's should just take the 17 layer chocolate cake off the menu. I was offended for the ambience to allow a cake of that caliber to be served there. It was dry. It left our mouths feeling like we bit into sand after each bite. The chocolate frosting also felt like it was a rolled sugar after thought. Had the texture off marzipan and lacked taste. It was disappointing I think we wanted to cry.... The chocolate shavings they had on the cake for presentation was dry and showed visible signs of age. Like they had rolled the shavings days before and put it into a tub to use throughout the week. We made it through some of the cake by spooning the upside down pineapple cake sundae into each chocolate cake bite.. All in all the vibes is cute but the food did not hit like we wanted it too. My recommendation to the restaurant is to revisit the menu and personally taste it and be very honest with the plate and ask themselves if the bite matches the mood of the restaurant and if it doesn't take it off the menu and replace it.... The goal is to keep and retain customers so they continue to recommend and recruit more people and for this place it should start with being proud for the food being served and the accuracy of the quality of the food. read more

We went today for the Saturday brunch menu We ordered the pierogis for an appetizer and they were perfect. Homemade, served with sour cream, crispy shallots. A+ The entrees were an upmost disaster. We had a table of 5. The kids menu is lacking. I get it. Kids menus aren't great but there were two things on the menu. Fine, we ordered the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken was beyond over cooked. It was a hockey puck. Not even edible. The fries looked awesome but served ice cold. Two of us got the special. The lamb burger. The burger was 5 oz of gyro meat served on a huge bun with cucumbers. There was more cucumbers than meat and way more bread than both cucumbers or meat. I got the crispy chicken wrap which basically was a chicken Caesar wrap. The dressing was sour. The chicken was the same from the kids meal, dry and not edible. The other person in our party got the avocado toast and it was good but only came with one egg. Overall I wanted to like this place but the food seems precooked. I've been here previously for happy hour with coworkers and based solely on that experience I would have given 5 stars. But we decided to grab brunch after the Pokémon liquid games festival and had a subpar experience. It was a 15 min wait for a table but there was an opening at the back of the bar so we took those seats. I ordered the Grand Prix and my husband ordered the Salmon Benny. Both our dishes came with a thick piece of sourdough. I wish they gave us the same amount of bread but sliced it in half. It was a little difficult to eat after it being toasted and thick. I paid an extra $7 for marinated greens. I was expecting roasted vegetables like asparagus, green beans, etc. not a side salad with dresssing. Honestly, I should have asked instead of assumed so that's my fault. Service was on the slower side which I expected since the restaurant was packed but one of the bartenders was complaining/venting to a server within earshot of us. She was complaining that the other bartender couldn't keep up with the customers and she had to cover. That if they can't do the job they should quit. I understand the frustration but it's unprofessional to say that in front of your customers. Find your manager and let them know, or vent in a more private area. read more

I love the community found inside Bell Works. There are so many activities and food spots, and I would say Mabel is a longstanding one. Inside the restaurant, there are several bar seating areas, and a deceivingly bigger indoor area for larger parties. - Shrimp Agilo e Olio, (3.5/5): barely any shrimp, that was chopped up into small pieces.. dish was overall a bit too greasy but I enjoyed the crunchy flakes on top - Scarparelli Wings, (2/5): tasted like buffalo wings, except meat was overcooked, tough to chew, and the sauce gave it a strange texture - Pumpkin Cheesecake, (3.5/5): loved the toasted seeds, and there was some slight pumpkin flavor which was very nice I wouldn't say I was very happy with what I paid and the food I got. I'd probably check out another restaurant at Bell Works at the next visit. read more

I've been wanting to come here, but I'm not always local. I stopped by an event going on in Bell Works today, and we were starving, so we figured it was the perfect chance to check it out during the day for brunch. We waited in the front for someone to come seat us and only waited a couple minutes. I've seen the bar area before and I know that they have some tables around there and some spaces to overlook Barbella and Bell works, but they ended up walking us behind there with turned into a pretty decent sized room that I didn't even know existed! We started with a lemonade and diet soda, and the soda was kind of flat and we felt like the drinking glasses were on the smaller side. We got the cabron flat bread, which we really liked. I'm not a fan of spice and the kick was tolerable for me. We also got a smash burger which we really enjoyed along with the house made chips. The burger was my favorite. It was a quicker, smaller meal but I definitely want to come back for dinner and cocktails. read more

It pains me to say that the last 2 times I've been to Mabel, I was left disappointed. Yesterday I sat at the outside bar around 4:15 pm and was offered a happy hour menu, along with a raw bar menu. The "happy hour" is just a small offering of the regular menu at the SAME prices ($18 Caesar salad, $17 fried zucchini) and not the same as what's on their online HH menu. We tried to order the tuna tartare but the bartender said we couldn't order that until 5 pm (even though we we were given a raw bar menu?). Minutes later, we saw a runner bring out food to another party of multiple dishes that weren't on our menu. Service was ridiculously slow at the bar. We had to wait a good 30 min before putting our food order in (with only 3 parties present at the bar!). After asking to put our food in, the bartender said "one second" and then went and had an entire conversation with the couple next to us? By the time our small plates arrived, it was past 5:00 so we put in an order for the tuna tartare. This was the most disappointing dish by far. The tuna tartare was MORE THAN HALF cubed cucumbers! I checked back on the menu to see if I had missed the cucumber part but nope, it's not listed as an ingredient - even though it was literally the MAIN ingredient! It was also served on a thick and crumbly "sesame torta" that was honestly not at all appetizing. And to top it off, the tartare was a whopping $28. I had held Mabel to a higher standard because Cardinal (sister restaurant) is my all-time favorite brunch spot. But honestly, based on my last two visits, Mabel is a little lackluster imo. I will say their lunch is fantastic and will probably just stick to that from now on. The lunch is still pricey but I felt that the food justified the cost. Came to see the Lumon building from Severance and found the treasure that is Mabel. We sat at the bar to catch the last of Saturday brunch. I got the Cacio e Pepe Eggs, a platter of breakfast basics each cooked to perfection. The scramble was lighter than air, the sausage sensitively sweet, the salad dressed evenly and simply. Yum! I've been coming to Mabel since they were only a pop up on the outdoor patio serving light bites. Consistently friendly service, excellent food, upscale but relaxed environment, wonderful Thursday happy hour (food and drinks). Mabel is a gem and I'm so glad to have a place like this in Holmdel. I'm there at least twice a month for brunch or dinner. Also good for bringing a dog with two people - one person can sit inside the bar and one can sit on the other side of the bar (technically outside the restaurant) with the dog. read more

We sat at a table for 10 minutes without any sight of a server. When we finally got served - the food was horrible and total garbage. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at this restaurant. From start to finish, it was a complete waste of both time and money. To begin with, the service was terrible. It took about 15 minutes for a waiter to even come over and take my drink order--and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There's really no excuse for that level of inattentiveness. As for the food, it was just as disappointing. I ordered the Widow Mushroom Burger, and it was absolutely drenched in grease--so much so that it was dripping all over everything when I picked it up. The French fries tasted like they had been cooked in old, stale frying oil, which made them nearly inedible. Overall, the combination of poor service and low-quality food made for a truly awful experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. read more

went to Mabel at Bell Works with a friend and had a mixed experience that started strong but unfortunately didn't finish that way. The evening began really well. We had a tuna appetizer with pine nuts that was outstanding. Fresh, balanced, and easily the highlight of the meal. The bartender was also excellent. He poured a great reposado tequila and was genuinely welcoming, which set a great tone for the night. Where things fell apart was the main courses. I ordered the pork chop, which was about $45. It arrived in a bowl of broth and was very difficult to eat without splashing while cutting it. More importantly, the heat from the broth kept cooking the pork, which made it overcooked by the time I was eating it. It felt like a dish that sounded good conceptually but didn't quite work in execution. My friend ordered the seafood fra diavolo with homemade pasta. The seafood was piled on top of the pasta, and unfortunately both the seafood and the pasta were overcooked. The pasta was so soft it was breaking apart when picked up with a fork. I politely shared this feedback with the manager because I thought it was useful information for the kitchen. I wasn't looking for anything to be comped. The response, however, felt defensive and a bit combative. He did remove the dishes from the bill, which I appreciated, but the interaction made it clear he was not happy about receiving the feedback. That was disappointing, because the intention was simply to provide constructive feedback about the dishes. There is clearly potential here. The appetizer and bar experience were excellent, and the space at Bell Works is great. With better execution on the mains and a more open response to guest feedback, this place could be much stronger. read more

Bell Works has sprung to life over the last couple of years and Mabel as the first restaurant of its kind at Bell Works is a testament to the evolution of Bell Works. Mabel is towards the back as one enters through the front doors. The restaurant has a large bar, a hallway where one can see into the kitchen and two dinning areas. The food is delicious offering small plates, pasta, and other entrees. The pasta is made in house and you can taste the freshness of the pasta. Their pomodoro was the highlight of the night for me along with their wings. The wings came in a nice sauce with sausages and were enough wings to split as an appetizer. The halved baked chicken was good as the chicken was not dry and had a crispy skin. Mabel also has decent drinks so don't skip out on ordering one. A good restaurant and a must try. read more

Enjoyed a great meal with my husband here. Drinks were delicious, as was the octopus and the truffle fries. My husband enjoyed his agnolotti too. Our only gripe was the cheeseboard- it wasn't really a great variety of cheeses or items. Our server, Jordan, was lovely. The dining area is very beautiful, but the tables are tight, especially the ones along the wall. Price was not cheap, but similar to nicer spots in the area, plus you can walk around after in any weather. We will definitely return. read more

The wings were the most expensive appetizer on the menu, and it was disappointing. The wings were dry and just drenched in the sauce. Pork Milanese was more than half more than the size of my plate, but dressed in salad. The pork was very dry, and the salad was tastier. We also tried a special prix fixe menu that included dishes like a short rib pasta and one of the best salads I've ever had, both of which deserve a permanent spot. While in Bell Works, we decided to go to Mabel for lunch! The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice, I loved the mid-century modern style of the room. I got the Fish and Chips, and it was fantastic. The fish was made perfectly, and exactly how they do it in England. Perfectly crispy breading, and the fish itself was perfectly cooked. No peas as a side though, which is the classic side for fish and chips, but instead there was a pickle as the side. The steak frites were also really well done, and I ended up loving the malt vinegar mayo more than I thought I would! I also got the Lemon and Elderflower Tiramisu. It was amazing! I could notice that the lemon creme layers were made using real lemons, as it was VERY tangy. The elderflower powder as a topping was very interesting! It's a very tart and floral tiramisu, I adored the flavor profile of it. The waitstaff and hostess were great; they seated us quickly, and service was fast. The only minor downside is that when the restaurant is full, it is EXTREMELY loud. I think it's because, technically, the restaurant is fully concrete and glass due to the building itself, but I couldn't see any sound dampers in the ceiling. We did go just as the lunch rush had started, so the resturant was pretty full when we first were seated. Once other patrons had slowly started to trickle out and there were only about five tables with people, the volume level went way down, but whoof, it was hard to think with how noisy it was at the beginning! The prices of this place are also pretty high, but the food quality was great, so it was worth the price to me! EDIT: Also, be aware there is a 3% surcharge if you pay with a credit card! I didn't see that posted on the menus or signage outside, and I can't find it anywhere on their site. I JUST noticed it now when I was going through my receipts. If you have a surcharge for only one type of payment, aren't you supposed to post that somewhere? read more

Ordered a $18 Turkey Club today that was on "Pullman loaf," idek what that is, but it was over toasted hard/stale white bread. Could barely even bite through it. My entree was disgusting. I should have sent it back. It was called shrimp cavantini but the pieces of garlic were bigger than the pieces of shrimp. It was so salty and gross. I didn't finish it after 2 bites. They also had the nerve to charge $32 when no shrimp was in sight. I just had a Chinese shrimp dish with 6-7 huge whole shrimp and vegetables for $12. I will never go back and would never recommend this restaurant. The 3 others I was with had $28 hamburgers that were edible. You can get a $28 hamburger at many other places for less. My 10-year-old son was kicked out of the bathroom mid-use by the manager to accommodate an older white woman wearing a white jacket with black hair. While my sons were taking turns using the single-occupancy restroom, this woman began banging incessantly on the door, frightening both of them. My son was still using the toilet and hadn't even had a chance to wipe when the guest rudely asked, "Why are you taking so long? as she entered the bathroom. The manager--a short Asian woman--then instructed my son to leave the bathroom immediately. We contacted the police, and the manager's account changed from what she initially told me. At first, she claimed she had directed the guest to use a different restroom located about 30 yards away, but that turned out to be false. Due to this disturbing and humiliating incident, my son had to discard his underwear and find another restroom to finish. read more

What a great night my friends and I had at Mabel! The host was charming and funny and made us feel welcome. At the bar, I was able to try the non-alcoholic Guinness on tap, which was so delicious. Everyone else really loved their pre-dinner cocktails too. Our waitress, Lila, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, and patient with our group of friends who rarely get to see each other and therefore do not shut the heck up when we do get together. The food was delicious and I appreciated that there was no drama when 2 of my friends and I decided to split a bunch of appetizers because we couldn't decide on what we wanted, everything sounded so good. The food came out and the only time we were quiet was because we couldn't stop stuffing our faces. The Caesar salad was the best I've ever had, the winter salad was delicious, the chicken parmigiano meatballs were very tasty. The filet mignon toast was a swing and a miss. I feel like thinner slices of both the beef and toast would have been more palatable. It was giant thick slices of both, it felt like something a college student dressed as a wench would serve at Medieval times with a tankard of Budweiser. The Piri Piri chicken wings were very obviously quality chicken. They were tender and juicy and delicious. Everyone loved their entrees, and the Pot de Creme I had for dessert might have been the best one I ever had. Mabel definitely is on my list for a quality night out. read more
