The Wine Foundry in Napa, CA Charles and our Wine Tasting host Monica
    Janet A.

What fun and yummy as well!! Monica really made us feel welcomed during our excellent wine tasting and tour of the facilities. If you have ever thought about making your own wine complete with personal label, this place is for you. They have workshops, you can visit and be part of the process throughout or talk with the wine master on the phone to invent your own wine. We are going to sign up for our own label and are having the Foundrys wines we sampled shipped to us in Florida. Happy tasting!!!

    Awesome juice!

Tours and tastings are by appointment only. Call them at 707-226-8320 or email at…read moreinfo@hendrywines.com to schedule a tour. 21 years of age and over only. Not kid friendly. But dog friendly. Quality/Quantity - I had a hard time with the website making my appointment, it's a user issue as I am just not tech savvy. So I called and someone actually answered the phone and made my appointment for me, THANK you! We arrived 15 mins early, so we hung out in the lobby reading all the history, etc. Then Skip took us to the best view overlooking the vineyard for our tasting; see pictures! We sampled almost ALL the reds! All of which were good. See pictures. I like the fact that we did side by side tastings of many of his wines. My favorites were the 2022 Primitivo and 2021 Malbec, which we bought a few bottles of. Ambiance - Secluded private winery. Close to main Downtown Napa, but far enough away for privacy and a feeling of being far away. Appointment only, so very private and customer focused. Typically no more than 3 parties at a time. Today was considered a very busy day as there were 4 parties including us, lol. Gated private estate. 200 acres. Plenty of parking, especially since hosting only 3 guests at a time. Events - See their website. Well behaved dogs are allowed outdoors. Service - Skip is a history buff and we both talked for hours... After leaving, well really the next day (LOL), I realized that our tasting was supposed to be only 60 minutes. I guess because we got along so well, we stayed until closing! And he gave me a glass with a generous splash and let us walk the property alone after they left! So welcoming and trusting. Price - Depends on which tasting and what you buy; see their website for prices. Tastings range from $50 to $100 per person. One free designated driver allowed. Tasting fees waived with wine equivalent purchases. Hike tours $75 per person ($60 for club members). See their website for more information. Owner Comment - Congrats on your family's success since 1939 and congrats to this winery's success since 1992.

I took the online WSET Level 1 Award in Wines class with Napa Valley Wine Academy earlier this year…read moreand really enjoyed it. My instructor was awesome and the online learning platform was surprisingly user friendly. I learned a ton (maybe too much -- now my friends don't want to drink wine with me because I can't help but start dropping wine facts)! The class consisted of several self-paced modules (written content, a few self-check quizzes, videos, etc.), and three Zoom class sessions with group tastings that were recorded in the event you could not attend. I took the WSET Level 1 exam immediately after the course ended and it felt like a piece of cake (passed with no issues!) after making my way through all of Napa Valley Wine Academy's content. If you're looking to get a great foundation in wines and preparation for the exam, I definitely recommend Napa Valley Wine Academy's courses, but if you are looking for something more interactive to build community, I would not recommend the online courses -- nobody in my class used the discussion feature and I did not connect with a single classmate. I really enjoyed Level 1 and would have already signed up for Level 2 if it weren't so expensive....hopefully one of these days!

His knowledge, personality, and genuine customer service are second to none. I usually never spend over $100 on a bottle of wine, but Bart's recommendations and the way he made us feel valued had me wanting to spend even more. He never pressured us--he simply listened to what we liked and guided us to wines we absolutely loved. Exceptional service like Bart's is what keeps people coming back. If you're visiting V. Sattui, do yourself a favor and ask for Bart. He truly is one of the best things about the winery, and he turned a great visit into an amazing one. More than 5 starts, I would give it a 20

We bought a panini sandwich and $9 bag of Torres brand, egg flavored potato chip imported from Spain. Both were delicious. There's a huge cheese section and it made me want to try so many. . The cashiers at the wine purchasing area were not so helpful but the wine guy was really nice and gave me suggestions on how to store the bottle of Cab I bought which I plan to hold onto for awhile. Aging will diminish the tannins in the bottle, he said. Their bags and boxes might need to be fortified. I saw a woman with a box of 4 bottles where the box started to fall apart on her. The bag I had for the $60 bottle I bought didn't feel that secure so I cradled it with both hands as we left. Prices have clearly gone up for the wines. Hope to be back.

Unfortunately, the service has consistently fallen short of the quality of the winery itself. The staff at the front desk--the hostesses who greet guests--have never come across as particularly welcoming. On each visit they've seemed cold, curt, and, at times, a bit snobby. I was even a wine club member for a while, but I eventually canceled my membership because I never felt valued as a customer. We recently stopped by hoping to do a tasting or perhaps just enjoy a glass of wine. At most wineries in Napa, the staff will warmly explain the available options, even if they're fully booked. Instead, we were met with brief, curt responses that made us feel more like an inconvenience than welcomed guests. It's disappointing because the setting is absolutely beautiful, and the wines are consistently outstanding. I truly want to love this winery, but after multiple visits, the lack of warmth and hospitality from the front-of-house staff keeps me from recommending it as highly as I otherwise would.
