This tasting room speaks to me on so many levels. A chill vibe with that "IDGAF" attitude (but not to the extent that would turn off the easily offended.) It's that "You either like us or you don't, but let's chill anyway!" vibe and I'm here for it. There wasn't a single wine I didn't appreciate, and I was pleasantly surprised that the chenin blancs stood out as something I may come back for before heading home in a couple of weeks. I can certainly see myself back here with my book and a glass before my vacation ends. Each taste was subtle yet present on the palate, each of which I'd love with a dish of anything! What a fun spot! My friend and I were in town for a wedding and decided to stop by for a glass of wine. In an area with so many expensive tastings, we were surprised to find this freebie! The staff was super nice and friendly, chatting with us while we sipped on our wine. Scott was totally cool when we walked in and we ended up spending so much time just chatting. Learned a lot about Cab Francs and Chenin Blancs, and tasted some truly wonderful wines. Absolutely love G+M. Came in 2023 for the anniversary thing and ended up joining the club. From the cozy interior (bar top/stool + a table with a large C-couch) to the cartoon labels/decor to the excellent wines and good vibes, this place rocks. Fantastic selection (love me some Cab Franc), and the Feral Rose (of Cab Franc, of course) is a definite pick up. The Entaglement is a crowd pleaser for sure, (especially if I don't want to break out the Stagecoach lol). Adam is a master of his craft and a pretty f*n solid dude. This is a great off-the-beaten-track tasting room that's fun, quirky, but also just a great wine experience. There's such a great variety of vineyards and flavors and if you don't know much about Chenin Blanc or Cab Franc, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll leave a fan. We've been by twice now and each time there's been some interesting movie playing, good music on the Playlist, and good vibes overall. I heard they were offering free tastings in celebration of their anniversary, and not many (if any) tastings in Napa are free or even waived...so I jumped at the opportunity. It is more of a wine bar and pretty intimate. The space is not large at all - there's about 4-5 bar stools along the bar and then a few couches available for lounging and sipping. Then they have about 4-5 tables set right outside their door for tastings. My husband and I chose to sit outside and we were greeted right away. Our server remainded attentive throughout our experience. The wines were all good, but I prefer a sweeter wine and that's definitely not their style here. However, we really enjoyed the experience because of the knowledge of our server. read more

Three words for you, great wine + Adam. Gamling & McDuck is by far the best tasting room in downtown Napa. Not only are the wines amazing but the owner Adam McClary is f*cking great. When you think of someone with a heart of gold, it's that guy. The entire experience is warm, welcoming and engaging as you're chatting with the person who knows best about these wines. Speaking of wines, these are well made and quite elegant, simply put gorgeous. The Chenin Blanc, Cab Franc, Hyparxis and the latest addition (just in time for New Years) C'est la Bérézina sparkling are all must haves. Aside from doing a tasting, you can also belly up and order your favorite bottle then just hang out. There's movie theater seating and something interesting always playing on the big screen. One time we played Mario Kart, not kidding, wine and video games rule. G+M is such a great place for locals and visitors alike. But don't just take my word for it, go and check it out yourself. A friend in Minnesota recommended this place located in downtown Napa for my trip to Napa so we popped in around 6:30 on a Monday night before going to dinner. NOTE: they close at 7 pm and are also closed Mondays and Tuesdays We met Adam (the McDuck part of the dynamic duo) who took us through their whimsical collection of wines featuring the grapes of the Loire Valley-primarily Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. He was so mucch fun to talk with and he gave us great info about their wines and approach. His partner is Gabriel (Gabe for short) and their small tasting room is like nothing else I've visited in my years of travel to the area. They do offer tasting appointments too-a good idea during the busier days/times as well although we were luck that the smoky Monday (wildfires) we popped in they weren't too busy to let us taste. Tasting fee was $25 and I enjoyed the wines. Ended up taking home some of the McDuck blend and a quality chenin blanc from 50+ year old vines. A must stop for people wanting to experience a lighter tasting experience with a pair of wine dynamos shaking things up in staid Napa valley. read more

We really enjoyed our experience here! Non-pretentious winery in downtown Napa with really good wine and quirky yet extremely fun atmosphere! There were lights on the ceiling, a mini movie theatre inside with seats, and a black cat sitting on the bar. Very friendly cat though! We came here about a month ago during MLK Jr day in the afternoon after our meal at Grace's table. There were two other parties wine tasting with Adam (total 4 ppl) but Adam was welcoming and accommodating when we entered. We opted for a tasting $25 each and Adam was generous to give us more tasting than what was on the menu. The menu bottles were uniquely designed with comics and cartoon characters. Each bottle was different, creative and fun! Certainly nothing we've seen before in Napa. We enjoyed all of the wines, especially the cab franc with the fun cartoon on the outside. The chenin blanc was my second favorite; light yet flavorful. Adam entertained us with stories of the wine, especially his cartoon drawings on the wine bottle. You can tell they put a lot of care, attention, and passion into their work. It truly shows. We left with 3 bottles and a desire to come back again! We'll be spreading great words about this place to our friends and family, and we can't wait to come back with them after our wedding in Napa in September! Fun fact, they adopt cats! And were showcasing a book of adopted dogs. We have an adopted dog of our own and a huge proponent of adopting pets... so that really hit it home for us. read more

I have been reviewing wine tasting rooms on Yelp since 2008, when my wife and I visited Paso Robles and discovered customer friendly places like Tablas Creek and Justin for the first time. Since then, I have visited additional tasting rooms in California, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, and Idaho, including quite a few in Napa, Sonoma, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Joaquin, Calaveras, Tehama, Nevada, Yuba, Solano, Alameda, Contra Costa, Madera, Yolo, Lake, Amador, El Dorado, Placer, Mendocino, and San Diego Counties. My experience at Gamling & McDuck is the second worst wine tasting room related event* I have encountered in those eleven plus years of being an active Yelp reviewer at the Elite level. It is my sad duty to have to recount my experience so that you and your wine tasting friends might not have to face a similar fate in the future. My wife and I recently completed a three day visit to Napa Valley. We used Tock to reserve tastings at Hess Collection and at Gamling & McDuck. Our first planned visit was a 10am tasting here on January 2, 2020. We made both appointments online before the New Year and received confirmation emails in both cases. While the Hess Collection visit on Day 2 went fine, despite arriving earlier in the day than our official reservation time slot, when we arrived at the Gamling & McDuck tasting room in downtown Napa on Day 1, the front door was locked, and no one arrived to greet us, despite waiting for more than a quarter of an hour in the cold. After three emails and two phone calls, Adam M., the owner, finally got in touch with us to explain that he had NO IDEA that we had reserved a tasting and asked us if we wouldn't mind rescheduling for a later time or day. In fact, this was not possible, as we were not planning to be in downtown Napa after 1pm, and we already planned on lunch at the Hog Island Oyster Bar at the Oxbow Market before checking into our hotel near Mount Veeder later that afternoon. While Adam M. did cancel our Tock reservation promptly after we managed to get in touch with him, Day 1 of our Napa visit was seriously disrupted. My wife in particular was quite upset by the entire experience of standing outside a locked door on a chilly winter morning in an unfamiliar section of downtown Napa to which we had walked on foot from our parked vehicle at the Oxbow Market, approximately one mile away. She still has traumatic memories of standing in line for food as a child in Communist Romania under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu, and I believe the whole Gamling & McDuck fiasco triggered repressed feelings of insecurity, inadequacy, and mistrust - which is never a good way to begin an eagerly anticipated and exhaustively planned three day vacation to Napa Valley wine country, let me assure you. Fortunately, the rest of our Napa Valley visit was awesome, from oysters, Dungeness crab, and Robert Sinskey Abraxas white wine at Oxbow to tastings and tours at Hess Collection and Trefethen Family Vineyards the next day to an amazing midday meal at La Calenda in Yountville and so much more. As much as I would like to encourage you to give small, independently run wine operations like Gamling & McDuck a chance to impress with their audacious wines made from grapes like Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc (two of my favorite varietals, ironically enough), I can't recommend them until they figure out how Tock actually works so that you, too, don't end up standing outside of a locked door at 10am on a Thursday morning at the start of an otherwise auspicious new year. I offer my apologies to Gabrielle S., Adam's wine partner, for having to write such a negative review. You likely deserve better. I hope to be able to submit a more positive update on Yelp later, should we be able to arrange a return visit to downtown Napa, when your lovely looking tasting room will not be locked and empty, so that we might instead be welcomed with the professional courtesy that we as your prospective customers probably should deserve. This was a great find as Gamling & McDuck specializes in those Loire varietals, Chenin Blanc which is often relegated to box wine blends and Cabernet Franc which is now popular. Make sure you stop here when visiting Napa!! As a wine lover and a cat lover, it felt like this place was made for me! We booked a tasting with Adam and we just had the best time ever on our girls trip! He was knowledgeable about his wines and a great time to hang out with. He set us up on the patio with the air hockey table so we were able to have a little tournament going intermittently between tastings. Adam did the artwork on the bottles himself and told us about all the strays he's homed throughout his years and we loved all his stories, and then we got to meet the black cat he rescued who hangs out in the tasting room. Overall we had a really wonderful time and will DEFINITELY go back next time we are in town - we are savoring the bottles of rose we took home with us! read more

If you are a fan of Chenin Blanc or Cab Franc this is the place for you. Their Chenin Blanc actually changed my mind about the varietal. They treat their wines and their customers very well. Often times I can find parking on the street very close by if not right in front. If that isn't possible there are many public parking lots in 1-2 blocks.
