The Wood used to be a staple for me and my friends! They were known for having a reasonably prices happy hour with delicious food! Coming back years/ months later and things have COMPLETELY shifted! The prices were ASTRONOMICAL and not at all what the menu depicted. They charged .45 cents on each item... SCAM! The happy hour prices were also not happy houring... prices were only $1 less than the regular prices. Added mac and cheese and potato salad. Inside is nice and dark. They have a little bar area that only seats two people. One thing i liked was the food came out quick, under 10 minutes and the customer service was great. It was a nice vibe inside of people. Unfortunately, the food was not good enough to bring me back. BBQ had no good smoked favor like others. Just oven made with sauce on top. For the sides only the potato salad was good but the mac and cheese was terrible. Price came to $36 before tip. This is the WORST establishment I've ever come to hands down. Entirely disorganized. Accepts all these orders and can't fulfill the demands. I placed my order on JULY 2 for today JULY 4 because I anticipated it would be a crowd. This place opened at 12 PM. I received x2 text notifying me of my pickup time frame (1) stating pickup would be "12:20 PM - 12:30 PM" and (2) stating pickup would be "12:20 PM - 12:25 PM" (see photo attached). I arrived at 12:30 PM today 7/4/25 my order was not ready. I waited 30 mins my order was still not ready yet all these large orders were coming out. I left and came back at 1 PM and still my order was not ready. I spoke with the Manager, Brenda with the hijab and she tells me "I'm going to go look for it" never came back. I later went inside and lo and behold there's Brenda on a phone call in this tiny little kitchen crammed up with the cooks and other staff. The owner of this place should be ashamed of himself because the kitchen doesn't even accommodate that many workers. LONG STORY SHORT... I received my order at 2pm. Opened the bag to check my order before leaving and it was thrown together. No BBQ sauce on the meat in SIGHT! (See photo attached) Food stains on all the containers. Chicken was small in size and dry. Chicken link was cold. Mac & cheese and greens were decent. They gave me bbq sauce in a cup (after I asked) with "complimentary cornbread". How about refunding some of my money and/or offering me a cold beverage to go with my food after waiting in the heat for over 1hr!? No. They were avoidant and made excuses the whole time. This place is a joke and should be SHUT DOWN! They need to be CLOSED and the only people I feel bad for are the kitchen crew. I could tell they were under so much pressure and stress. The staff bringing the orders out didn't seem to be bothered, lacked compassion, empathy and had a total disregard for customers who were waiting. They didn't try to compensate or rectify the situation (i.e. returning some of my money, offer a cold beverage) and my food was $56 dollars including tip (because it was pre-ordered so tip was included). The plate I received was not worth the amount and this establishment is not worth anyone's time or money. My friend has lived in Inglewood for decades, moved out of state and when he came for a visit, he wanted to go here for dinner. Love how they close late! I got the two item with two side combo which I picked brisket, pork ribs, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. Those collard greens are the best I've had. Not too sour and had a nice kick of spice. This is not a bad spot considering I do not eat/like much bbq. Since I went with a group of ladies for a friend's birthday, I indulged. I only ordered french fries and fried zucchini. Both were good. Date night was a bust, so I took myself out to a spot I chose The wood BBQ & Sportsbar in Inglewood, The City of Champions. I saw grilled salmon on the menu and decided to try it. Glad I did--the salmon was cooked perfectly, not overdone. I enjoyed it with some tasty barbecue sauce, collard greens, and some of the best potato salad I've had in a long time. I also ordered cornbread muffins that were delicious, reminding me of Dulan Soul Food's muffins. The presentation on a tray threw me off a little, especially with plastic utensils, individually wrapped, which I wasn't used to. Still, it didn't stop me from enjoying my meal. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and I chose outdoor for some people watching--it was worth it. The prices were reasonable, and the food was excellent. I added a little hot sauce to the greens, and the hot sauce they provided made it perfect. My server, Darell, was friendly, giving me space to relax and checking on me as needed. More please! Seriously, I ate SOOOO much but I could have kept going. We Uber'd from SoFi (maybe 2mi) for lunch today and got there just in time. Had a reservation for 1:15 but actually got there about 12:45. We arrived just before ALLLLL the Pittsburgh Steelers fans. There were 10 of us but they got us setup at two tables inside (4 kids and 6 adults). Plenty of space for all of us to spread out and eat, quite nice. Our server made a few recommendations and she nailed it! We came here for SuperBowl Sunday, and could not understand why they refused to put the pre-game on until the 3:00 Black National Anthem, then immediately went back to the D.J. We missed every pre-game band and song, all the SuperBowl commercials, all the chitter and chatter re the game--utterly frustrating! Went yesterday Friday and overall, the ambiance just wasn't it. It felt very old school, and we were expecting more of a mix between old and new vibes. The service was okay, but everything took a long time. One person was doing almost everything, even though other staff were present. The food overall lacked flavor. The only items that were decent were the brisket cheese fries and the hot link. Everything else was very underwhelming. What really ruined the experience was the billing. We were a table of seven, but my friend and I ordered together off the happy hour menu. Our bill came out to $141, which made no sense based on what we ordered. I haven't even fully calculated the exact overage yet, but it was way more than $30, and the individual charges don't add up at all. For example: * Drinks listed at $11 were charged at $16-$18 each * Mac and cheese listed at $6.99 was charged at over $7 * A small side of ranch was charged $2.06 These price increases, plus unexplained taxes and fees, kept stacking up with no explanation. Gratuity is fine, but being repeatedly upcharged beyond menu prices is not. My friends and I came after a work event to celebrate and intentionally support a Black-owned business, especially during Black History Month. Being overcharged and feeling taken advantage of in that space was extremely disappointing. It really felt overpriced and dishonest. Eater loves this place, but Yelpers clearly do not. I myself am torn. The barbecue itself is quite good. The Ribs come off the bone with minimal gnawing, the brisket is tender with good smoke, and the pulled pork makes a nice sandwich. Skip the chicken links though - the texture is rather off-putting. I ordered my stuff on Doordash, and what I found baffling was that every single item had literally half a squeeze-bottle of bbq sauce on it. Not basted, not cooked in, just a sea of cold sauce so stifling I could barely see or taste anything underneath. The sides are all good here, baked beans, slaw, etc. Mac n' cheese hits, and street corn is fun. I will say the prices are quite high for the portion size. Good meat isn't cheap, but it's hard to feel okay when you only get 2 ribs and 3 slices of brisket. I was in the mood for BBQ. I Didn't want to head to Woody's but was excited to try another black owned spot after viewing it on Instagram. Upon my arrival I noticed the something was missing. The lingering smell of smoke leading to an established was missing. No vapor, no fragrance of grilling go be found. However I charged it yo the game because I arrived around 7pm I assumed all their food was in the warmer. The vibe was very lounge like (kinda felt like a club) atmosphere. The music was hella (yes I said hella) loud and even had security on site (hints the club reference). The staff, DJ and even the security guard were all pleasant, but how did it taste? Margarita - I normally don't post my beverages unless they are exceptional. Unfortunately it was basic and taste nothing like a Margarita. Ribs - Baby backs full of a rich Smokey flavor. If that's your thing it's definitely heavy on the smoke and you won't be disappointed about how they fall off the bone. (I would have like these if they were not cold.) The BBQ Sauce however was "trash". I'd imagine there's a bucket of generic, room temperature sauce they refused to encamped and just dumped it on top of the meat. No basting of sauce at all. Sausage Link - Well flavored, yet cold. And again with the goop of BBQ sauce smh. Brisket - Unfortunately both servings of brisket were as equally cold as the ribs. Paired with the cold generic BBQ sauce it began to solidify the moisture brisket is beloved for. Not only was this cold but they serving size it one brisket cut in half. SMH Baked Beans - Everyone does baked beans a bit different but I have no complaints. Well seasoned and fresh off the stove like mama used to make. Collared Greens - If you're accustomed to a healthy portion of smoked turkey or pork trimming to fill your fork you won't find it here. However they were "top notch", well seasoned and hot. Definitely worth stopping by for a lesson if you don't know how to make greens. Mac & Cheese - I have to commend my waitress for this recommendation because I was skeptical but they were flat out amazing. You can tell someone made a roux and blended these flavors with real cheese. Every bite was delectable from the cheese pull of the crust all the way to the last bite. Summary - Man I had the highest of hopes. But if you can grill and you just don't want to make sides this is the place for you. If you want a lounge atmosphere and a place to watch the game please come through. If you care about quality service you cannot miss. But if you're in the market of mouth watering BBQ I'd recommend either getting their early or maybe just rolling the dice somewhere else.
