Nostalgic. Great location. I keep seeing cars parked here so I wanna know... are they staging a comeback ?

Packed at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday. Sat inside due to wait for outside tables. Still got a decent view. Cut to the chase: the food we had was decent. Salmon with veggies and salad. Jambalaya with rice pilaf. The world famous mai tai. Happy. The negative is that the service was basically AWFUL. Hostesses at front seemed confused and were dealing with very unhappy customers who were before us. Once seated, we waited 15 minutes and did not get any service. Tables that came in after us got water, ordered and served appetizers. I had to get up to ask for a server. Then we still didn't get a server. Finally a nice waitress from another section took our order and delivered it. When we were almost done with our meal, our actual waitress came over and checked in for the very first time and was prompt to drop off our check without asking if we wanted dessert, coffee or anything else. Ready for her tip! UGH. Luckily we didn't let it ruin our meal. The food was good but something is wrong with the management. And, we tracked down our nice server and tipped her directly instead. For all of you who have been thinking about visiting Tony P's it's time to get over here! They close at the end of June and if you haven't been here for the tasty happy hour and the fantastic view you're missing out. They are known for their world-famous mai tai's and contribute to the community at large quite a bit. I know for a fact that they supported my son's school. The end is coming for Tony P's Which I believe is closing June 29th. I stopped in to watch Game 6 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals and I used some points on my reward card. I had an Arnold Palmer ($3.95), Stuffed Mushrooms ($18.50) and the Ribeye with sauteed mushrooms ($49.99) which all came out at the same time which was disappointing. The total bill was $79.40, but with my card points, the bill was just $7.05 and I left a left a cash tip of $17.00 for good service. I'll probably make my way back one more time to deplete my points, and it will be a sad day as I have loved this venue for decades. Try to stop in one last time! RECOMMEND. read more

I was charged for someone else's bill and the only way I found out was checking my credit card statement a few days after dining here. I live in Marina Del Rey very close by so I really wanted to like this place but after what happened I will never be back. I will say that Patty fixed the situation and refunded me the money that I was charged incorrectly, but still that should never happen when dining out at a place of this level, even Denny's doesn't do that. The location is beautiful and it's right off of the water so you can dine while seeing boats and marine life but the food quality is very medium and our service was extremely slow. I think the big draw for this place is that they are the only restaurant in the area on the coastal side that does not charge for parking. I think because of the no parking charge is what draws people in, it is not the food taste or quality. That being said, the parking lot is very big and filled with a lot of spaces so it should not be an issue finding a space. As mentioned the service was extremely slow. It took a long time for our server to come over and take our order, and it took awhile for our entrées to come out. On top of that after our meal was over, our server charged my credit card for someone else's meal, which maybe was a mistake or maybe not, I don't know, but I know that I will never deal with that again at this place since I won't be dining there again. I started off my meal with a cup of the Clam Chowder, which was my favorite part of the meal. It was a very hearty Clam Chowder and I would recommend it. Next, I followed up with the Steamed Clams and honestly they were just OK. The white wine sauce was almost flavorless and even though I dumped my bread in it it just didn't really taste like anything except water. I was really let down by this. For my entrée I wanted to order the Seabass, but they were out so I chose the Halibut and think I made a mistake doing so. It was overcooked and just had no flavor. I ate 3/4 of it because I just didn't want to eat the rest of it. I was really disappointed, and this was even before I found out that I was overcharged. Tony P's has been a Marina Del Rey gathering spot for over 25 years. It was a perfect pick for a late afternoon meal before heading to an event at the YouTube theater. The large menu is heavy on seafood, pasta and pizza. All were priced very affordably. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant overlooks the marina and we watched two lazy sea lions sunbathing on the nearby dock during our meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Roman, our server, did a nice job of getting our meal prepared in the limited time we had before getting on the road. We arrived during Happy Hour (3-6pm) and saved a bundle on our drinks and meals. I had to try Tony's Martini for $11, as it included blue cheese olives. My dining partner and I shared the Spicy Louisana-Style Mussels. It was very different from the traditional preparation with white wine. Personally, I thought the creole sauce was too overwhelming. I ordered the Blacken Cajun Chicken Pasta for my entrée. The portion was huge and delicious. For $21, it could easily feed two. Roman said the Fish & Chips is one of their most popular signatures. First time at Tony P's, and surely not the last! I was very impressed with both the food and customer service. I came to Tony's on a whim after running the LA Marathon! As you can imagine, I had a voracious appetite and was eager to replenish my glycogen stores immediately. Tony's was the perfect choice since it was conveniently located in a beautiful, peaceful spot on our way home. The food was absolutely fantastic! I ordered a creamy plate of garlic shrimp pasta, and it was heavenly--steaming fresh, perfectly seasoned with Italian spices, and with a sauce that had just the right consistency ... not too thick or watered down. Also, the garlic bread was toasted to perfection without being overly greasy! What made the meal even better was the gorgeous view of the marina, with the sunshine glistening on the sapphire water. Service was efficient and attentive. Our waiter was kind, checked in often, and made sure we had everything we needed. It's been quite a long while since I've been here for a meal let alone drinks. This visit, we stopped off for happy hour before heading to the airport. The whole property is quite big. Restaurant is along the waterfront of the marina with a beautiful view of the marina. There's plenty of parking in the lot. Both the bar area are quite big as well as the patio dining. Bar area, plenty of seating along the bar, loads of hi top tables as well as plenty of seating scattered. Menu wise for happy hour is limited but what they did offer was quite nice. We had the loaded potatoes skins, the buffalo boneless chicken, the ahi tuna sliders (more like crostini, and the steamed mussels. Overall, mussels and ahi were great. Portion wise for them was pretty impressive. Drink menu special is also offered for happy hour. Great seafood restaurant! This restaurant had a variety of foods ranging from seafood to Italian to the point it took me a while to narrow down what I wanted the most haha. First I had the complimentary bread and it's among the best complimentary breads I've even had at a restaurant. It was warm, crispy, soft, buttery, and lightly salted. So good. For my main, I got the crab and shrimp stuffed tilapia. It was good, big and moist. However, it did lack a bit in flavor and seasoning in my opinion. The veggies and side of rice pilaf were also solid too. As good as it was, I don't think I would pay $31 for it again. My table's server was also great. She was nice and playful. 5-star location, beautiful dock and boats; 4-star service. We were warmly greeted at the entrance by a gentleman whom I guess to be the manager. We appreciated it. But our waitress was not very attentive. We needed more ice water but she totally disappeared after we finished ordering. 3-star food. Still great food, service, and view. The food comes out pretty fast. It's best to come on weekdays when it's less crowded. The free bread is soft, salty & delicious. The Thai Chicken Salad is always great as a refreshing appetizer, with extra grilled chicken added. The pizza is very cheesy! The fresh fish sandwiches are good, either proper portions. Lots of things are good to split, like the chicken stir-fry. They also have a decent food discount on the happy hour menu, especially the pulled pork nachos, which is huge. We only had to wait 15 min to get seated which wasn't bad at all and they sat us in the enclosed patio which was perfect to see the sunset and all of the boats! We had for appetizers: the potato skins, crab cakes and spinach artichoke dip; for the main course I had the Garlic shrimp pasta and as you can see that was enough for 2 days!!! I had to pack half of that for tomorrow!!! I'm giving this place 2 stars because our server was really nice, and we did like the bread, but to be honest it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. They seated us in the very back of the restaurant, the last table on the patio before you reach the rear exit. What was unique about this table aside from the hearty cross breeze that took our breath away is that it was stationed directly beside the kitchen door. Each and every time a server stepped down onto the patio, our chairs and tables shook with the impact. This happened several times per minute as it was an incredibly busy day, and the staff was hustling. Kudos to the staff! The table would have been an uncomfortable place to sit any day, but what truly made the experience miserable was the food. My fried chicken salad was so flavorless. Overcooked chicken nuggets on iceberg with the most watery ranch I've ever tasted. Even when I asked for extra dressing and hit it with pepper a lot, there was no saving this salad. My son's burger was overcooked, as were his matchstick fries. My aunt's Asian style salad with grilled chicken and wontons was pretty good, though she also needed to doll it up with additional dressing and salt and pepper. She and I shared a carafe of white sangria, that was also pretty good. $90 before tip is just a lot to pay for flavorless food. The pull of a marina restaurant is the view, and there just isn't much of a view. The windows are small, almost like old house windows, so unless you are seated right next to them you won't see anything. I would go to almost any other restaurant around the marina before coming here again. read more

I wanted to write another update since my last visit. Today we tried the French Onion Soup to start. We both ordered the cup because we both wanted addition food to try. We loved the French Onion Soup! The beef broth was delicious and salty good! Hahaha! My friend ordered the stuffed mushroom crab appetizer and she didn't care for it, and said it was bland. I tried one, and it was pretty bland, compared to the flavorful French Onion Soup. She didn't want to send it back, and just ate a few pieces. Tony P's is a Marina del Rey staple with great Marina views. Their patio has had a nice facelift, and it is pretty and inviting. It used to have more of a casual sports bar feel. Portions are large. We split a small Chicken Caesar and Seafood Creole with Rice. Please note that there is a $3 per person split plate charge. We should have just ordered an entree each and split it ourselves; however, the split portions seemed larger with the charge. So disappointed. I know Mother's Day can be a tough service. Super busy, condensed menu but I heard they were closing at the end of June and I've always meant to try them so here we go. It was awful. Like legit I couldn't even eat it. When the waiter came, my husband literally said "this is trash". I got halibut and it was bone dry with no sauce (think supposed to be with a beurre blanc or similar) and it was pounded flat like a chicken breast they turn into chicken parm or fry. Dry, tasteless, very odd and this is the kicker.... powdered/instant mashed potatoes. I'm not kidding. Maybe they ran out but this was a $35 plus meal? It would have been better at a Hometown Buffet type spot. That gritty, stir with water powdered ready made mashed mess. I had like a bite of potato and 2 of fish and it was gross. The crab cakes were good and while I loved the idea of the hot/sweet peach salsa it was so lackluster. Like a jar of salsa someone dumped canned peach bits into. I had a friend of mine staying at the hotel up the road and when we got sick of sitting at the pool there we decided to take the short walk to Tony P's. Tony's seems like a few different concepts in one: a sports bar, a casual seaside patio restaurant and a slightly more upscale but still casual indoor restaurant. We got seated pretty quickly out in the patio since I had my dog with me. Sunday night was busy and it was pretty bustling. Our server came up to us and after looking at their beer selection I just stuck with water, it was just ok with not too many options. We had a good evening at Tony P's and the bar/tavern is a good spot for watching sports and having above-average bar food! I didn't have high expectations but the clam chowder was actually excellent and one of the best I've had in LA - the right balance of clams (not overcooked) and potatoes (not undercooked ) and seasoning ! After cups of chowder we shared the tuna slider app (delicious) and the boneless buffalo chicken pieces with dipping sauces (very tender and generous portions). The drinks were ok, one mojito with so much lemon (not lime) the drink didn't taste like a mojito at all. A cucumber cool was ok, missing the spark of a great drink. The food we ordered was pretty good. The calamari was a giant portion for an appetizer and super yummy - fried perfectly with nice, fresh tasting pieces. The Cobb salad was good, it needed more dressing in my opinion and the addition of chicken helped. The table side bread and butter was good, warm & was nice to munch on as we chatted. Visited for an early Saturday dinner. It was our visit time eating here. We were promptly seated on their patio where we enjoyed nice views of the marina. I ordered the fish sandwich with the wedge salad. My wife order the pulled pork sandwich. Her sandwich was supposed to come with hush puppies but unfortunately we had to ask for the hush puppies. My wedge salad was just okay. Kind of underwhelming. Not enough salad dressing and just lettuce. Most times when you order a wedge salad it comes with egg, bacon, and cheese. This was just lettuce and a little blue cheese dressing. Both of our sandwiches were very delicious. We really enjoyed them. We ended our meals with their mini desserts. I chose the peach cobbler and ice cream and my wife got the hot fudge sundae. For only $3.50 they were truly MINI desserts. Good but really small. We did like the service. I love coming to Tony P's the atmosphere is always laid back and cool I came down today after checking out my new apartment. It always nice and clean here I wouldn't expect anything less we chose to sit in the back to have a nice view I ordered a turkey club sandwich with a baked potato. Once it came I had to have my waiter bring me some mayo because the sandwich came with cranberry sauce and I couldn't se myself putting cranberry sauce on a sandwich, and I had to request another half bun because I dropped mine and the waiter took good care of me. I would have gotten dessert but the apple pie that they had advertised had too much stuff going on for me crumbled pecan crust why couldn't it just have a plain apple pie so except for the dessert choices this was a nice little pit stop on my way home. read more

I recommend Tony's special pasta, Mussels, Cobb salad, apple cobbler, turkey sandwich, nachos... Just to name a few things. Excellent bar either way great recipes and a fun menu. Avoid the Clam Chowder it's a tiny amount of soup in a bread bowl. It's over 10 bucks and you will not be full. Really bad portion that is deceptive from the way it looks. This restaurant never serves bread and has bad bread sticks too. I can't imagine anyone can honestly say they like the bread sticks. Hands down, the best sports bar on the West Side--potentially all of LA. The staff is always incredibly welcoming, the food is great, and most importantly, the beer selection is top tier! It's also the perfect spot to bring family and friends from out of town to give them that waterfront experience. There are many perks of being in the SFV. One of them is the close proximity to the beach town of Marina Del Rey. The other prize (if you are a seafood lover) is Tony P's Dockside Grill. We came here for the seafood, but were rewarded with a front seat by the marina, a cool breeze, mesmerizing weather and spectacular views. The holistic ambiance is immersive. I had to ask myself, why did it take me so long to get to this restaurant? They have an attractive and eclectic menu. I was instantly, in a conundrum. So many mouth watering selections. Where do I start. We ordered two fish and chips entrees, one fried fish sandwich and a greek salad. Also two Mai Tai's, a drink they are well known for (having served over 250k of them). Let me start by saying that all the food was superb. Fish and chips, is what they are known for, and it was a major hit. Superb presentation and optics. Memorable batter, perfect crispness, bursts of flavor. Never seen so much of tartar sauce (that is the way it should be). At other places, I have to keep asking for more. Not here. Accompanying cole slaw was so very tasty. Thin French fries. Delicious. Nice dessert selections too. But we saved that for the next time. Service was friendly, accommodating and exceptional. Tony P's is in the Marina and some seats have a marina view, which is lovely. The place is very pretty, has a full bar, and the parking is easy--for free. When you do in you are greeted by a lovely hostess who will get you to your seat. All the seats are comfortable and relaxing. The menu is pretty big. You can get great burgers and super seafood. It's a lazy Saturday and felt like trying Tony P's. Had their famous Long Island Ice Tea, I really wasn't wowed by it. It's wasn't that good to me. It seemed like it was missing something. Clam chowder and bread were good. The fish sandwich was good. I just decided not to eat the bun as I already had some bread earlier. Asked for tarter sauce and ate the fried fish pieces by themselves. The fish was good. Love that we sat by the window and got to see all the boats and people walk by. I think I will try one of their salads on the next visit. Service was ok, but neither good nor bad. Been coming here for over 20 years and never disappointed. Awesome cocktails (best martinis and bloody Mary's) and consistently good food. Love their "no bones" chicken pieces and they have a really great spinach and artichoke dip with corn chips. Beer battered fish and chips for something fun, but their salads are the best if you want to go flavorful but healthy. OVERVIEW: Came here for dinner on a friend's recommendation during a weekend trip (I'm from Vegas). We had a party of 5, and had a great 10 minute walk from our hotel along the docks to the restaurant - very easy walk and easy to find. AMBIANCE: Tony P's has an ample parking lot and has a great "dockside" vibe and appeal. They don't do reservations and they seated us very quickly (30 second wait on a Saturday at 6:30pm no less) and accommodated our request to dine out on the patio. The patio is stunning, great view of the docks, boats, and sunset, and most importantly it was very comfortable - glass blocking the wind and once it started getting later/chillier we heard their heaters kicking in. SERVICE: Our server Josh was busy, but took great care of us, was expedient in our requests, and got every order and request 100% correct. FOOD: I cannot rave about this food enough! This was quite literally the best calamari I've ever had in my existence - perfectly light and crispy exterior, soft and tender on the inside, and not at all chewy. My clam chowder was exceptionally hearty. I had the Garlic Shrimp Pasta, which was HUGE. The portion sizes are insane, all our entrees were definitely too much for any single individual. The sauce was a mix of subtleties - subtle garlic flavor, and because it was a creamy marinara, it was both creamy and rich but with a subtle tang of marinara. I did have to supplement with some salt and a dash of tabasco, as I personally felt it was a tad bland. However the shrimp and mushrooms in the dish were terrific and cooked to perfection. The bread they offer with the entrees was toasted a bit too much and it was very firm, but worked really well with the pasta sauces to soften it up and was seasoned very nicely. OVERALL: Highly recommend. We already resolved to come back here on our next trip to Southern California, specifically for that calamari. I'm eager to try their other dishes too, as my fiancé had a Mahi Mahi sandwich that looked incredible (he finished the whole thing, so I assume he liked it, lol). read more
