My cat knocked it over, the liquid spilled on the top overnight, and it completely bubbled up and stripped the stain and varnish. I found Wood Wizzard Refinishing on Nextdoor and saw a bunch of great reviews, then looked them up online and found even more good feedback. I sent in a request with photos through their website and heard back almost immediately with a very reasonable quote that even included pickup and delivery. I highly recommend Wood Wizzard to anyone who is looking for high quality refinishing at a very fair price. I inherited 3 lovely, very old pieces of wood furniture from my mother who died recently. All the items were in fair to poor condition. The Wizzard did an incredible job of refinishing each of the pieces and bringing them back to their original condition. The one I was most amazed by was a 70+ year old French Provincial chest of drawers that was quite damaged and faded; but I loved the color it had faded to. The Wizzard repaired and refinished the piece, reproducing the color I wanted perfectly. The missus and I attempted to refinish a dining room table but ended up doing more harm than good. When we did some calling around, WW's quotes were very competitive (plus it help that we had already removed the polyurethane during our muck up, which equated to less labor for them.) My beloved father-in-law left me his circa 1950's Duncan Phyfe tallboy dresser. In my last move, the movers manhandled it badly leaving scratches and gouges all over this beautiful piece of sentimental furniture. It irritated me each and every time I looked at the gouge on the front (you can see the deepest and ugliest gouge on the right side of the third drawer). I found The Wood Wizzard of Skokie on a facebook post. Not only did they repair the scratches and the gouges beautifully, but they refinished the entire dresser (which had been refinished once before) in a richer, more authentic colour that highlighted the beautiful grain of the mahogany drawers. Contacted The Wood Wizzard to refinish on old sewing machine cabinet and a desk with chair set. We not only received a timely response to my inquiry but also reasonable price for the project. Other companies responded but did not follow up or were much more expensive. Barrett was great to work with to determine what would be the best for our items. After the wood was stripped, we stopped by and worked with them to select our stain and finishes. The sewing machine cabinet needed extra work which was expertly done. The finished pieces are beautiful! It was all done in about a month's time. Plus the furniture was picked up and delivered. We are very satisfied. I inherited a lot of beautiful wood furniture from my grandparents. Over the years some of the wood was damaged, and in the 60's both of my grandmothers painted some of it. The accurately named Wood Wizzard repaired, restored, or refinished (as needed and appropriate) a cedar chest, a dining room table, and a set of nesting tables, bringing my beloved but battered family heirlooms back to their original beauty. Next up is to strip and refinish a painted mahogany dresser, and I will have several jobs for them after that. Would not recommend this company. Horribly responsive and do not seem to want business. They kept asking me to send photos for a quote by email but then said they never received the emails (x3) even though I confirmed the address was correct and it went through on my end. They basically said to resend and check back in three days. I asked if I could text them and was told no. Extremely rude as well.
