As someone that has frequented Big Cedar Lodge over the years my only disappointment is that this is my first time eating at the Worman House. We went for breakfast with Santa for my children and it was a buffet style breakfast, which I figured was just going to be another breakfast. I was extremely impressed with the food and service so I immediately made reservations for dinner that evening and canceled my previous reservation. Dinner was even better. The service was amazing and the food was superb. Everything from the cocktails to appetizers to main course and deserts were phenomenal. My wife, young children and I were treated extremely well by the attentive wait staff just making the whole experience amazing. Anytime we are back in the area we will definitely be making dinner reservations again. read more

The restaurant looks amazing, there is a musician playing every night, and he is really good. My husband and I went to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary, and had one of the best dinners in our lives. We got couple of signature cocktails, and started with tuna tartare and roasted beet salad, both were delicious. As entries my husband ordered seafood pot pie, he loved it, it reminded us lobster bisque only better! I ordered chef's special of the night which was bison stroganoff, I got it with mashed potatoes instead of the linguini pasta, and it was outstanding. For dessert we got vanilla soufflé, we have never had a soufflé before, we really enjoyed it. Our server Jenna was very friendly and attentive. She answered all our questions about the drinks and food on the menu, and gave us her recommendations. We will definitely come back, thank you for such a nice experience. Let's start by stating that you need to ignore all the previous reviews - notice that most are from 3 years ago or longer. I even deleted my 2 previous reviews because they are no longer relevant. Why? They were formerly a breakfast and casual lunch restaurant for Big Cedar Lodge until the newly renovated Truman House opened and replaced Worman House in that role. It remained a banquet/special occasions only venue for approximately 2 years. Fast forward to 2021 and they've reopened as a premium dinner restaurant; open Wed.-Sun. Nights only. Reservations are required. Since we had been here before (see above) we knew that it was a beautiful, historic and restored building and had been told of it's opening in the Spring of 2021. Obviously, we were anxious to dine here. The prices are high - even more so than the former best restaurant at Big Cedar - Devil's Pool. Expect to drop around $100 each. Is the food worth it? We thought so. They start with a sampling of Champaign to welcome you and also send out a complimentary small appetizer. It was excellent. Then the server will take your entire order - drinks, appetizer, soup/salad, entree, and dessert. (We were uncertain as to the last one so we asked if we could wait until after the entree on deciding). It is a quasi- A' la carte menu; your entree comes with a starch and possibly vegetable but that is not a given. We had the scallops as a shared appetizer and they were cooked perfectly - something not every kitchen can master. Then we each had a salad and I can honestly say that it may have been the best Caesar salad I've ever eaten! My wife had Sea Bass for her entree and I had the 22 oz. Ribeye - much larger than I'd normally order but it was the only steak on the menu. The sea bass was some of the most tender fish I've ever tasted and the steak- outstanding! I'd rank it in the top 3 steaks I've ever eaten; possibly in the #1 position! We finished off with 2 coffees which came with 2 biscottis. The whole dinner took almost 2 hours but at that price and for this nice of a restaurant - think of it as an event and not just a meal. Service is top notch with a huge wait-staff; each person has a specific role: drinks, water, clearing plates, delivering food, taking your order, and even the manager stops by to check on you. All in all a very memorable dining experience and this will probably be our first choice for future celebratory dinner occasions! read more

Went to the Champagne Brunch at the Worman House. My family has gone to Big Cedar many times over the years, and this is the first time we ate sunday brunch at this restaurant. There was so many choices. Eggs Benedict with salmon, biscuits and gravy, omelet station, great pastries, salads, seafood, and deserts. I tried to sample everything I could, and I almost succeeded. Service was nice and friendly. Atmosphere was excellent as always at Big Cedar. Devils Pool Restaurant brunch is also good, but this one is a step above. read more

Wonderful food and service. Thanksgiving meal was HUGE. We had a large group and everyone complained about how much food went to waste.

Jessica (the manager) turned what could have been a horrible situation into one of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant! Through a series of events, our reservation was messed up and we ended being seated over an hour later than our scheduled time. Jessica and her crew made sure they made up for any mishaps from earlier in the night. Noemi was our waitress and she was the best! I think she was born with a smile on her face. The food was great, but the service and atmosphere we experienced was the real difference maker. They proved it's possible to turn a possible disaster into a great memory. We came to celebrate my mother's birthday and experienced the WORST SERVICE OF MY LIFE. The manager was unbelievably rude. My brother flew in from Denver and I drove in 8 hours from Nashville to meet my parents and grandmother for a very special birthday for my mother. We've been coming to Big Cedar every year for 30+ years (years before our annual trips began, my Dad actually still remembers his fraternity formal at the Woman House--back when the chandeliers were made from wagon wheels). To start, our service was unbelievably slow. I was a food writer for years and have never had a meal take so long (including an 11 course Italian feast). And all we ordered were 5 entrees and 4 desserts. It took over half an hour to receive drinks (2 glasses of wine, one cocktail, and water for the rest). We were repeatedly told bread would be out shortly (it never came). While the food was delicious (Chef is wonderful, the problem is clearly management), it took FOREVER to come out. We even ordered our desserts before our meal (because we all know soufflé takes about an hour), and still we waited more than an hour after we finished our meal for dessert. Also our glasses--water, wine, etc.--were left empty for far too long. Honestly, it often felt like we had been forgotten about. I almost got up and picked up a pitcher from the service table in the corner because I was so thirsty. Our waitress was very sweet, kind, great at guiding us through a menu, it was just very clearly her first job in fine dining and she was not properly trained or managed. We really liked her! After an hour had passed since finishing our entrees, our sweet waitress came out and told us one of the soufflés fell and the chef had to start from scratch, but that the soufflé would be on the house. She assured us that she ordered it in plenty of time, just one of them fell. So we continued to wait for the two soufflés and two apple crisps. I can understand the soufflé falling, however a meal of entrees and dessert should never take MORE THAN 3 HOURS, as ours did. When the manager came over to ask how our meal was, my mother, the Birthday Girl, kindly said everything was great but everything took much longer than expected. I've never seen a colder stare in my life than the look this manager gave my mother. She narrowed her eyes and through tight lips "explained" that they time their meals to be 2 1/2 hours long (apparently even for only mains and dessert) and that that's a normal standard. Every member of our party has eaten at some of the top restaurants in the country--that's not standard. When my mother informed her that this was not our first rodeo, this woman got colder. Her jaw set and she launched into a brief lecture then promptly left our table. My mother found her later on in the night and asked her why she was so rude to her in front of our entire family. The woman began to lecture again that this was "standard" and that nothing was wrong with the service we received. . . When the bill finally came, the soufflé was still on it. After pointing this out it was eventually removed. We LOVE Big Cedar. We LOVE the staff. We know their stories, how long they've been there, we ask to see pictures of their grand babies. However, something has gone wrong at the Worman House. . . this was not the Big Cedar standard we have known for the past 30 years. read more

We had dinner there last night, and the experience and the food was wonderful. The evening starts with a champagne toast and a chef's tasting. Then we started with lobster ravioli, I had the sea bass and my husband had the short rib. Both were out of this world. The sommelier helped us with some great wine pairings. For dessert we had the apple strudel a la mode and it was to die for. The view was amazing. We sat in the chef's room. I'm only giving 4 stars because there was an obnoxious screaming child that kept putting things up her nose and talking loudly about boogers at table next to us, her parent weren't much better, also loud and two of the women literally had their butt cracks hanging out of their jeans - classy. We could tell the other tables next to us were also annoyed. It took away from our experience. For a meal costing several hundred dollars, perhaps children should not be allowed after a certain hour and loud patrons asked to leave. read more

My wife and I chose the Worman House for a date night while at a family reunion in Branson. While there were some wonderful highlights there were some issues the team there might want to be aware of. We had reservations for 7pm Saturday. We were seated at around 735pm. In this environment I can understand the wait. The bartender was incredible as we ordered drinks and waited. The restaurant is beautiful and full of history. The waiting area was well appointed and the live musician was very good. An older couple that came in after us, that we struck up a conversation with, also had a 7pm reservation. They were seated before us and taken to a table overlooking the lake. Beautiful view. I will tell you that we had the distinct impression that we were seated later due to our younger age. It certainly could have been due to something else, but the demeanor of the hostess and manager, hustled, a bit out of sorts and not approachable, gave this stark vibe in our interactions. When we were guided to our table it was next to the restroom and wobbled as if we entered a waffle house. I leaned my elbows on it for the duration of the stay, Incredibly disappointing and seemingly very obvious as a plate could tip the scales. I suggest they switch the tables along this particular wall to the waiting tables along the railing facing the library and perhaps fix that table. The waitress was nice but did not seem to respond to our thought of giving us a different table, or switching us back to the high top table we had our drinks at, which was splendid. As we transitioned to dinner, the French Onion soup was the best we have ever had. Bravo! We also shared the charcuterie. It was fine. My wife chose the Seafood Pot Pie and it was delicious and interesting as well. I chose the short ribs. I can best describe them as good pot roast, so I was disappointed. This is my fault. For dessert we shared the Creme Brule. It was very grainy and seemingly overcooked. It did have good flavor. The visit boiled down to very high highs in the soup and pot pie, and some very surprisingly low items in our table location, state of repair and dessert. If choosing a restaurant in the area again, it would not be this one for us. It has tons of potential, but we expected it to feel like the money we spent, and it absolutely did not. Great location, poor execution and consistency. I would love to hear some feedback on the restaurants thoughts on the matter and will look for them here. Hopefully they had an off night. Well, let's start by paying $10 to drive in. Then either park in free parking and walk a half mile to restaurant or be forced to pay another $10 for valet. Your in $20 before you even order food. Food and drinks overpriced. I will say the food was really good. Just very expensive for a backwoods restaurant. Put this in NYC and prices are in line. Not out here in the boondocks. read more

The Worman House never disappoints for brunch, especially during their yearly "Breakfast with Santa" brunch. The offering is slightly scaled back, but delicious, from the omelet station, fresh fruit, biscuits and gravy, and amazing coffee. Santa is always a highlight, but our waiter this year, Ameto, was outstanding! Visit him at the Buffalo bar at Top of the Rock (his usual area)-you won't be disappointed. The Sunday brunch here is sooooo good. Lots of items to choose from. Far more than I can list here. This is an old house converted to a restaurant at Big Cedar Resort on Tablerock Lake so there are stairs to go up and down as you go back and forth to the buffet. Reservations are a must! I've made them as much as six months in advance but normally you can make them within 2-3 weeks. Otherwise, call and see if they can fit you in...they always try to accomodate everyone.
