Really really good place to stop and try I was very impressed with the burgers and pizza and those carnitas cheese fries could be a meal by themselves you must stop and try.

We started with the Texas Heat Bites and OMG... sooo bomb! The combination of sweet, savory, smoky, and a little heat was perfect. Definitely a must-order. The meatloaf was incredible tender and flavorful with the perfect sweet and savory glaze. The mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables paired perfectly with it. We also had the Toasted Spring Chicken, and it was just as impressive. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the sweet pea risotto underneath was creamy and delicious. The asparagus and sauce brought everything together perfectly. And the drinks were GREAT! Beautifully presented, refreshing, and made really well. Between the food, cocktails, atmosphere, and Daniel's wonderful service, La Colline was such a great experience. We will definitely be back!

Unfortunately, both visits were disappointing. My first visit, I ordered the grilled chicken Caesar salad. The salad was bland and lacked seasoning, and the chicken had a rubbery texture that tasted like it had been cooked earlier and simply reheated. Hoping it was just an off day, we came back. This time I ordered the Spring Roasted Chicken with risotto. For a nearly $30 entrée, I expected much better. The dish looked nothing like the photos advertised online. The risotto resembled a bowl of watery oatmeal more than a properly prepared creamy risotto, and the rice was still undercooked. The chicken once again had that same rubbery, reheated texture, making it hard to believe it had been freshly prepared. My daughter ordered the chicken strips, and they were so over-fried that the breading was painfully hard to chew. She literally had to peel most of the breading off just to eat them because it was hurting her teeth. To be fair, my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak both visits, and he said it was excellent. It looked great as well, so there are clearly some dishes they do well. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, especially for a local business. We genuinely wanted this restaurant to become one of our regular spots. But after two visits, the quality simply didn't match the prices or the expectations of an upscale restaurant. I hope they're able to improve because we'd much rather support local than drive into San Antonio.

There was a sign to seat yourselves. OK. We sat down and the bartender brought us menus. Us and a group of three were the only customers. Brought us waters. While looking at the menu, a server comes over and asks if we wanted appetizers or go straight to order. Straight to order, please. The husband ordered the brisket pot roast. It came with asparagus and what he thinks was puréed squash. I had the pecan chicken. Panko breaded with pecans and a bourbon sauce. Maple and bourbon were the flavor elements. Came with baked Mac and cheese and sliced slightly charred carrots. This was really good, as was the husbands plate. Warm Sourdough bread and butter is served with the meal. We split a Caesar salad. The salad was OK, the dressing was a little tart and served on the side. I'm taking a slice of chocolate cake to go. As I peek into the bag, it is a generous slice with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Stay tuned. The restaurant is part of the Hillside Resort. Looks like a bunch of rooms. When we were about to leave a group of women came in and sat at the bar. I told the bartender we'd heard about them through Texas Eats. He said 'are they still showing that? That was about six chefs ago!' All righty then. I'd say it's worth a trip to try.

Reservations were made ahead of time for 4 and upon arrival we were were seated right next to the large open windows. Ordered the Berry Patch cocktail- nice and refreshing with a splash of mint leaves. Menu wasn't overwhelming and had a nice assortment of dishes. Starters ordered - pork belly bites and fried Brussels sprouts. Both highly recommend! Dishes ordered- salmon, pork chop, pot roast, and steak. Pork chop and steak were not dry, but juicy with lots of flavor. I loved pot roast growing up , so I had to order it here. Although tasty, texture was a little chewy and tough. Also would have enjoyed a little more helping of vegetable/potato purée underneath the roast. The salmon dish looked fabulous, but was slightly salty. The sweet bun that accompanied each dish were delicious! Service was good. I'd come back to try the pork chop next time around.

Myself and one other *lone…read morestar* attended Whiskey Wednesday with Mike, where we spent most of the evening learning about proofing, bitters, and cocktail craftsmanship while enjoying several samples and an old fashioned along the way. Maverick Distillery is housed in the old Lockwood National Bank, the first bank in Texas to allow women to open accounts without a man's permission. Their money was stored inside barrels in the bank vault. Today the bank vault has been repurposed into a small rick house, where barrels hold a different kind of currency. (The rest of their barrels are offsite in a more traditional rick house.) Once we were done upstairs in the private bar, we made our way down to that vault where we thieved directly from a barrel. Maverick is one of several distilleries along the Riverwalk, but the others don't appear to have mid-week experiences, which is a shame. In this triple digit heat, the most effective sunscreen is sitting in a bar.

What really stood out was how they went above and beyond for the birthday girl in our group. She was able to choose a different tour drink than the rest of us, and they wrote "Happy Birthday" on both her whiskey flight paddle and the bag holding her whiskey glasses, personalized with her name. They truly made her feel special and celebrated. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. I enjoyed learning about the history behind the name, the Mavericks, and the location itself. The Old Fashioned was excellent, and the whiskey flight was a great way to sample their offerings. The tour lasted about an hour, and afterward we were able to relax and spend some time at the bar. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!
