The Yard doesn't officially open until the 29th, but they're up and running now, with just beer (liquor to come) and a limited food menu. I am amazed by how many things are wrong about this place. Horrible, almost non-existent service, lame, lazy, unknowledgeable, way too hip bartenders, incredibly bad mixed drinks ( you gotta be bad to screw up a Margarita). Food was passable but not worth the 30 minute wait (for chips/salsa). Do yourself a favor and go across the street and see Rene at the Pig and Whistle. He is everything the bartenders at the Yard are not. The picnic tables are OK. read more

Let me start by saying, save yourself some serious time and go to Pecado Bueno. My wife and I have given this restaurant more than enough chances and the food is very slow to come out every time. This last time was the last straw. We waited for 35 minutes and never received even our chips and salsa. The waitress eventually came by, apologized, and then ignored us for another 20 minutes...no food. We and one other couple eventually just got up and walked away. There is no way this place deserves your money until they get a better functioning staff / system. We went to pecado bueno, got better food, paid less and were in and out in 30 min total. read more

Ugh. This place was so annoying. They charge extra for sub par salsa, even when you pay $5 for guac and chips you have to pay another $5 just for salsa. No house salsa or anything like that. I asked for pineapple habanero salsa to come with my 3 small over priced tacos and guess what they charged another $1. So now we are already at $11 just for chips, guac and salsas. We ask for water, the water comes at the end when our mouths are on fire and every ounce of our beers have already been consumed. I think the total bill was around $60 for 6 small tacos a la carte, chips, salsa, guac and 2 beers. That seems borderline outrageous to me but kudos to them for getting away with it- the place was packed on a Friday night. read more

I start every review of places that are deemed a Mexican restaurant by the quality of there chip. The Yard Cafe gets a 5 star in that category. Chips were fresh from the fry, lightly salted and very good. We added the guacamole to go with it, lets just say they were both gone in minutes. That is the way to start is with actual made in house chip. I ordered two tacos, one with the carnitas and the other was adobada. The carnitas was very good but the adobada was amazing. Also ordered a side of the the red rice which is actually a pretty big bowl that could serve two as a side. Overall really good, my only reason to give The Yard Cafe 4 stars is the price, a little over priced for what you get. read more

The Yard is a hip yet friendly and approachable environment. They have amazing soft tacos. The prawns and stake are my favorite two kinds. They leave the testbeds tantalized and ready for more. I often find myself ordering a few for happy hour and then doubling the order later because I can't get enough. Their Margita is also legit. read more

Okay okay, I know it was a beautiful day out and you were busy because you have a great patio but the service here was still inexcusable, and the food was mediocre. I love the dray and I wanted to love it's little sister but I just can't. It took 10 mins for the waitress to even take our drink order then she forgot one, i had to go to the bar to get it, then another 10 to get our food order and she told us our appetizer would not come out first because 'the kitchen is really small' and then she forgot to order my food at all. When i finally got it the pork in the tacos was so chewy and for a $3.50 taco?? Seriously??? The space is great and the beer selection is pretty awesome but I have no interest in trying this place a third time and getting a third disappointment. read more

Had a great night with friends, the margaritas were awesome, as was the chorizo queso. Actually our night was great until I accidentally mixed up another employee with our waitress and asked if she would grab our check. Jen (not our waitress,) said no, and that she looked nothing like our waitress and walked off. I've never been treated more rudely by an employee anywhere and honestly it left a very bad taste of the whole place overall. May or may not return - get rid of that employee. She was rude to us and our friends, as well as the other wait staff working. read more

Completely refused to serve me because I am Canadian and only had my Canadian ID on me at the time, even though Canadian IDs ARE legally acceptable according to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board. Waitresses and other employees were all very nice about it but the manager was extremely rude and refused to even Google it when I tried to explain this to him. Again Friday night, 1 behind the bar and 1 on the floor. good luck finding someone who cares that you are there. Beer selection good. Wine not listed. Food OK if it had been served hot. Was not. Trying to get someone's attention for a second round or even getting our "appetizer" before the meal was a struggle. Loooooong wait for anything. Major attitude of women behind the bar, rather socialize with each other (once 2 were added at the 7 pm shift) than assist any of the thirsty/hungry customers. Horrible service, food completely over priced for what you actually get, and the taste is nothing to write home about. We walked in the door and were basically ignored as multiple employees walked by. We were left to guess that it was seat yourself.... Once we did have a server, service was completely intermittent and almost seemed troublesome to our waitress. Had to ask multiple times for drink refills. Once we got our meals, the "1/3 lb burger" came out char broiled and definitely not 1/3 lb. We asked for mustard, but apparently they don't have any. The other plate was the chipotle orange salad. Chicken was VERY salty. At one point we asked for a chip refill, the response we got "you know the kitchen has a lot going on right now and i don't want to bother them". It is safe to say we left here hungry. The ambiance and atmosphere of this place is actually very fun (worth the one star), it really is a bummer that between the service and food we will not be returning. read more

Friends and I frequently go out for happy hours around town so we decided to try this place. There really isn't a comfortable table or area to seat more than 4 people so we ended up outside at the picnic tables as there were 6 of us. The happy hour beverages are only $1 off the regular priced beverages so I really wouldn't consider that a great HH deal. We all ordered various tequila type drinks. Some were ok and others were downright boring and ordinary. The HH food was good but servings were small. I know it's HH servings but still too small. The stuffed jalapeños were the exception. We had several female servers who were lacking in personality and friendliness. When we asked for some water we we told to get it ourselves as there was a spigot behind us. I think it would've just been as easy for her to get it for us. Not above getting my own stuff but I am paying for service and what I was asking for was not out of the question. The food was decent, drink specials not great and service not fantastic. We tried it once but we will not be coming back. read more

Used to be my favorite bar, since it's opening last year. I even ponied up the $250 for the Founder's Club, basically a mug club that promised (unfulfilled) perks, parties, freebies, and a daily Imperial pint for the regular pint price. Not any better than getting "regulars" service in other pubs (thanks 74th St). Now that they are enforcing their NO DOGS rule, I'll no longer need my Founder's Club mug and tiny locker. Anyone want to trade for my remaining 4 months of large beers at the regular price, let me know. The staff is great (Thanks Kate, Mark, Krystal), great for soccer, and the patio is nice. Always diverse tap selection and esoteric spirits and scratch cocktails. But, where goes my dog, so goes I. There are plenty of other places.... read more

I've been to the yard before and it's served the purpose of standard food and great cocktails. We hopped in hungry and ready to spend money. The waitress on staff Sunday evening around 7:30pm 4th of July weekend made us feel so unwelcome. We came in, sat down and asked if we could get nachos... She replied "we don't have nachos here" snobby and unwilling to help. As we sit there and discuss the menu and how the alambre would suite our craving and sounded like their equivalent of nachos, the waitress came up to us and mentioned how the Lodge would have what we're looking for.... I just think the owners should know what their employees are recommending to their customers. We were seated outside and I'm not sure if it was the end of her shift or what. Super disappointed, will not consider this as an option in the future. :( read more

Brunch was decent -- not going to have you rushing to throw on pants on Sunday, but not too shabby. Definitely recommend sitting outside in "the yard." Sounders game was on and the sun hit just right. Meal consisted of two white fish tacos; a pretty standard American street taco affair. Happy to see Seattle Cider Co. on the menu. Super awesome Mexican brunch, so rad

So my wife and I went for a Pick-up today. And the bartender with beard and a black mask was rude as hell. He first told us to wait outside because it's gonna take a few more minutes and we did. A few minutes later, it has reached to 5:56 pm when the app says it will be ready. But we waited a few more minutes because we were not in any rush and we didn't want the workers to feel being pushed. Then we went in again around 6 o'clock. And the second time we came in the waitress came to us and ask if we Needed any help. I told her we are here to pick up and she directed me to the bar again. As soon as The bartender saw us at the bar desk again he felt really unhappy and he came to us and said next time we had to wait outside until they're ready. First of all the app already said you're ready it's five minutes past when you would've been ready. And if you're bringing things outside to us we would love to stay outside. We gave you a few more minutes after 5:56 pm and we assumed that it's ready to go. Second of all, we came to the bar for the 2nd time because your waitress directed us to. The bartender was extremely rude to us, and we definitely would not visit again. read more

The passion flower vine caught my attention as I was walking to Chocolati for a cuppa. I stopped to check out the menu displayed at the entrance into the yard and knew I had to try this place. The next day I brought my mom in for lunch and I couldn't have been more wowed and impressed. The food was amazing. We had the fish tacos and warm chips (fried to order) with dips. The salsas and guacamole were stand-out-delicious, fresh and not too salty. Although I didn't have an adult beverage, the drink menu is also impressive with rotating micros and a large, upscale booze selection for yummy craft cocktails. I am a sucker for microbrews...I suck up the IPA's and I will be back to have a beer and try more food items! read more

Somehow I left my earrings at the restaurant. I called right away and they had already placed them in their "lost and found" area and told me to stop by to pick them up. I went back on two sepearate occasions and no one knew what I was talking about. They even had me come back on a day when the waiter who talked to me about the earrings was working and they were still gone. Would have appreciated a little more remorse...or maybe a free marg?? This place has a really great outdoor space with picnic tables and lots of room. On a sunny day I could hang out here with some friends for a very long time! I met one of my friends this time for happy hour and we shared a few things: chips and salsa (homemade fried tortillas, yum), stuffed jalapenos (one of them had the seeds still so it was way too hot) and I got the tostada with carne asada (good portion for $5 and pretty tasty). I liked the atmosphere here and the one waiter was really running his butt off so kudos to him! Their beer list is decent but I like how they list the next keg in the rotation, makes you want to come back when that keg is tapped.
