The Yard is AMAZING! My husband and I dropped by to grab a quick lunch before heading to the airport and we were blown away by the food! We purchased the oxtail burger, chicken thigh wrap, fries, and sweet potato tots. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavor! We can't wait to come back for their summer events!! No ratings my food was unacceptable I went on my lunch break and ordered a jerk chicken thigh wrap HORRIBLE . The wrap was wet the fries were over cooked the sandwich was not even hot, no spice . No sauce I'm the bag as I was asked and requested walla sauce. They threw this meal together for $20 this is unacceptable tried calling them I keep getting a cam , can't leave a message mailbox full . Are y'all serious SMH. We found this place on accident, thinking it was a chain restaurant I'd been to in Chicago. It was anything but that! What an amazing surprise! My first foray and it was an absolute delight. I had the chopped chicken thigh on roti with a side salad and ate it outside at the sweet little tables (the fresh tulips in vases on the tables are a nice touch). Great menu (that nice mix of American with Indian touches ala Walla in Halsey Street - same owner, BTW) which I plan to work through every Friday night over Summer. We had The Yard's food at the Newark Winter Village and wow what an amazing spot. Oxtail burger is a slow cooked oxtail taken off the bone then blended with ground beef and seared to perfection. If you're looking for a great way to ruin your Sunday brunch vibe then this is the place for you. Unprofessional is not even the word! Staff is very nasty and rude. Very unorganized and chaotic. The waiter with the nose piercing was the worst of all. I asked for light cheese on my eggs, she looked at me and said " No you either get cheese or you don't". I stared at her for 5 seconds in such disbelief. Customers were walking out because of her nasty attitude. After people were leaving the Owner proceeded to laugh with the rude waiter mocking customer's reactions when they discovered majority of the menu was not available to order. The Owner continued to laugh and mock customers saying "We're out of food what do you want us to do?" When I asked where the bathroom was the Owner yelled from the kitchen "It's a 45 minute wait!" making fun of how long the wait was to be seated. The Owner should be very ashamed of himself. This afternoon a long time Sister- Friend who was visiting from Florida and I decided to go to the Yard for Brunch! What an amazing meal! I had the salmon cakes with grits and scramble eggs with cheese. My Sister- Friend had the Lox with cream cheese, fresh sliced tomatoes, red onions on a toasted croissant with a spicy garlic sauce. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! The coffee was amazing as well. Our Server Tee was delightful. She was attentive and thorough and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. I love this place and I do not always have an opportunity to eat there. In addition, there was a young man there who serenaded us on the trumpet . I adore live music. We really felt like we were amoung friends .I am so very glad that we went today to enjoy the last Sunday Brunch, for awhile anyway. We were told that Kai (Chef/Owner) is working on some enhancements. I am very excited to see what the future holds for the Yard! Love this black owned business. We had tickets to a show at NJPAC this was a nice 2 minute walk. Creative burgers and very tasty. I had the shrimp burger which was delicious with sweet potato tots. My husband had the oxtail burger and there was nothing left on the place. Nice owners and the service was good. The place is small but very cute. read more

Someone who knows good food recommended The Yard. So off these four seniors went into Newark. It was a lovely Spring afternoon and The Yard wasn't hard to find. We parked and walked just a bit and there - nestled in Military Park, it was. We were greeted warmly by Kai, the owner. The restaurant is nice and clean. I didn't expect anything less. The menu offered a variety of options and the spouse ordered the oxtail burger. Two of us ordered wings and sweet potato tots and the fourth person in our party had the hot dog and fries. We should've taken pictures but I told you we are seniors, so you just take my word on this. The presentation was excellent. Each plate was full of good food made colorful with fresh flowers and a variety of sauces to try on the side. I very much enjoyed the park all around us and the spouse, who is from Newark reminisced about having played there as a child while we very much enjoyed our dinner. As good as the burger and wings and hot dog were - that Georgia cake - toasted - was even better. Hmmmmm. It was moist and buttery and all I needed to go with it was a cup of coffee. The food was ok... but the music was too loud and our server and the other girl were talking very loudly and cussing, the server could've waited to eat with her fingers. I don't know the other girl's position but she wasn't doing much of anything besides being on her phone.She could've been washing them dirty windows and cleaning tables and chairs. The place can definitely be cleaned better and more often, especially after each seating. My husband wanted to sit outside but I knew those tables and chairs were probably worse than inside. Came in town for a couple business mtgs and was looking for a quick spot to grab a quick lunch. The staff was exceptionally friendly and our waitress Cris was awesome! I got the Oxtail and Short-rib burger and fresh cut fries. They were both exceptional and they were so go I forgot to take a picture. But it wouldn't do the food or the service justice. And the homemade sauces were great as well. The spicy house made ketchup and the Walla sauce was great! I travel for a living and eat all over the country it's one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. read more

This place is really a hidden gem. I had brunch there over the weekend. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It took a while for my meal to be served but it was well worth it. I ordered the stuffed french toast and it was delicious. I have been trying to get to this place for an entire year. It is hands down, one of the best southern brunches I have had. Hands down. I'm a hard critic. I don't like grits but I loveddddd their grits. The salmon cakes were top notch and the eggs were SEASONED to perfection. The French toast was almost as if it was sanctioned by the angels. The food is fresh so it takes a small bit of time but who cares when the food is amazing!! The chef came to our table and everyone was kind. Come here with patience and you will be A Ok.
