Chicken Taquitos - Honestly they weren't that hot which was surprising as they should've just came out of the fryer. Queso was good though.

Mehhh...I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes based on the ratings, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. Pretty on par for any fast casual Mexican spot like El Nopal, which I also didn't like much at all either. Mexican places like this seem to have multiple locations around town so maybe I'm just not a fan and other people are... Everything we had seemed to be just sitting around or heated up in the microwave. The tostaguac wasn't horrible, but the ground beef was luke warm. The chille relleno tasted fine but was so hot it had to came out of the microwave. Somehow the taquitos weren't even hot, which should've came directly from the fryer. The queso was our favorite part, along with the free salsa. The decor and everything inside was cute and looked nice overall. It was located in a small strip mall and the other main reason we ate here was Bingo a few businesses down. I won't be back due to not enjoying the food enough and it also not agreeing with us the day after...

The yellow cactus is a Mexican eatery in the Jeffersontown portion of Louisville tucked away In a very massive and unassuming shopping center off six mile lane. I travel the area frequently and have never noticed this place until I stopped in the other day to have lunch with my family and some family friends. Walking in and it's a rather spacious place. Extremely colorful and vibrant decor and vibe. Like so colorful and vibrant it would be hard to be an a sour mood here. Very uplifting. All the tables and Chairs looked to be hand crafted and hand painted. Someone spent a great Detail on making this place appear the way it does. The staff on this sleepy weekday we stopped in was pretty sleepy themselves. We was the only customers in on a random late November monday at 11am and all the workers sat a table playing on there phones majority of the time. We had a large party and our food came out fast. But if we needed anything we had to stand up and give a neighborly wave. I jokingly asked the teenagers in my party if they were communicating with the staff since they all had faces buried in phones. The complementary chips and salsa weee very good. Salsa had nice flavor and chips good taste as well. Came with traditional mild and hot options. Put party of ten people sampled the menu pretty well. The younger kids went with a kids chicken tender meal and it got mixed reviews. Some ate it all and others a piece here and there. My wife got a steak ranchero and while it was overpriced at around $20 she did say it was good. Said steak nice and tender. My oldest daughter got a steak burrito and her best friend got a steak quesadilla. They both stuck with the theme that the steak was top notch and they enjoyed it. I personally got the Pollo con chorizo which was grilled chicken, cheese sauce, rice and chorizo. Our friend got a Similar plate except it had no chorizo. She loves hers and had plenty of cheese sauce. Me I was disappointed. It's like they skimped put on the cheese sauce to add some chorizo and my chicken was rubbery. So rubbery that when I went to cut it up what little cheese sauce I had slide off my plate and on the table. Bummer. Overall majority of the people in our party loved our meal. Place had great vibe and decor. Our waitress maintained her focus for the most part but it isn't easy being the only one working when all your co workers are sitting at a table playing on the phone. I get it. Slow boring day but you have to understand perception that can put off. I'm sure on busy days they don't do that. As for the kitchen staff they were very fast and we got of food out quick, correct and warm. Solid Mexican eatery. Worth a shot if you are in the area and looking to try a New Mexican establishment.

I've always said (at least since moving to Louisville) that when one Mexican restaurant closes it's doors (Mi Casita) another one opens. Such is the case with The Yellow Cactus. We were able to visit on the first weekend they opened, after having waited for what seems like forever for it to open. We'd drive by frequently, looking to see an opening date but not seeing anything. Fortunately my wife takes Karate around the corner and came home on this Saturday and when I asked where she wanted to go for lunch her answer was "just drive. I'll navigate". The restaurant is very colorful and the menu is huge. By "huge" I mean "enormous". By "enormous" I mean "extensive" By "Extensive" I mean "Freakin' MASSIVE!" The furniture is decidedly Mexican, very similiar to the very colorful table and chairs you see frequently at Mexican eateries, but uniquely on the back of all of the booths it says "Fiesta Mexicana". I love this kind of furniture and if my dining area at home was large enough we'd be eating at this furniture every day. Well, until my wife came home... We were seated immediately and handed the aforementioned menus. The is A LOT to peruse through where this menu is concerned. The chips and salsa we good. The chips were your typical tortilla chip affair, the mild sauce pretty average, but the hot salsa? EXCELLENT! Spicier than your average salsa, so I loved it I settled on the Burrito Carbon, my wife the Arroz con Pollo. Both were excellent and served VERY hot. I'm going to say less than ten minutes from order to delivery. The atmosphere is very laid back and quiet. Our server was on the spot with drink refill and anything we needed. I always welcome new eateries and this is one that we'll frequent VERY often.

Enjoyed our dinner, food and service until the bill came with a $4.50 surcharge for paying with a credit card. This was a shocker as there was no mention of this prior to presenting my card. Granted, no fault of the server but instead of a 25% tip ($100+ bill), I reduced it by $2 to so everyone had skin in the game. I wouldn't mind paying if I had been warned in advance and given an option to pay in cash. Needless to say, I won't be back!!!

Fajita taco salad. I got queso cheese on the side instead of shredded.

This is as a nice, bright & clean place. We enjoyed our lunch. A fajita taco salad and the pollo con arroz. Fast, efficient and friendly.

It was pretty tasty; it's just not the absolute best in town. Service was top notch and the restaurant is very cozy and colorful.

Really good Mexican restaurant that offers all the classic dishes known for this kind of cuisine. Friends and I stopped in here one evening and we were happy to try a new place. I really liked the atmosphere and the colors of the place. The drinks were great and so were the dinners. The tacos were crispy and the chips and salsa was tasty. I will be back

Great service and delicious food The Yellow Cactus delivers a great meal. However, be aware that beans are canned and some dishes are reheated.

    taco was good,too!

Delicious food! Hot and fast, and reasonably priced. Plenty of food and the sweet tea is southern approved. I had the lunch combo with taco, relleno beans and guacamole salad.

The American breakfast had large potato pieces, good sausage, and made to order eggs. Hot coffee was on the better side for hotel coffee. Dinner: they were super accommodating, as we were traveling with a friend with an infant. I called ahead to let them know we would come in with a stroller, and they made sure to sit us in an area where the stroller was not in the way of servers or other guests. Our server was one of the most attentive people I have ever met, and every recommendation they gave was fantastic. We started with the oyster rockefellar and the spicy tuna tartare. The oysters were massive and the tuna dish was so good, we got it a second time later in the weekend. We all got steaks for our mains and added a lobster tail - there was a mix up with the lobster tail taking a bit and they ended up bringing out the largest lobster tail to make up for it. All steaks, their sides, and sauces were fantastic- better than most I have had in the DC area. The food was all rich so under order or share amongst friends. Cocktails were of course fantastic, from espresso martinis to the famous smoked old fashions. We had drinks at the bar another night and the service was just as good, though they did tell us that they didn't serve the drink in a smoke box when we certainly had one just a night before.

They offer valet parking for $14, but street parking was easy to find and just a short walk away. We started with the Caesar salad and the wedge salad. Both were good, although the wedge had a bit too much dressing for my taste. I ordered the filet with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms. The filet was excellent, and while I'm not usually a mushroom person, these were truly outstanding. The bread was also some of the best I've ever had. I also ordered one of the mocktails, which I enjoyed because it wasn't overly sweet. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the service. Our waiter was efficient, but he wasn't particularly friendly, and the entire meal felt rushed. Several times, someone tried to clear my plate while I was still eating. We also had to ask for more time more than once before ordering because we felt pressured to make decisions quickly. With a bill of over $300, I expected a more relaxed dining experience where we could enjoy the evening at our own pace.

Their claim to fame seems to be 1) Muhammed Ali used to eat there and 2) they wouldn't serve OJ Simpson and kicked him out. Nick was our incredibly friendly and knowledgeable server. I ordered a half dozen oysters, an iceberg blue salad and a Cowboy rare petite filet mignon steak. We also shared a large side of shishito peppers. The oysters were very fresh and spot on, served with horseradish, vinegar, fresh lemon and Tabasco. They weren't fully shucked, so I had to pry them from the shell. My salad never made it to the table. Nick was mortified and offered to make it right with dessert (which I politely declined). The steak was good and was cooked rare, the way I asked. The weird thing was that the rare steak tasted dry - maybe it was the rub, but a rare steak should not taste dry. Almost like it was cooked medium. I told Nick I liked the steak but it might have been the seasoning that made it taste dry. They comped the steak. Outstanding. They earned a star back. Nick knew how to make a customer feel welcomed, special, and appreciated. Definitely worth a visit, but bring a credit card with a high limit. Four of us had an excellent experience for our dinner in Louisville, and besides the food, a lot of that experience was due to our server, Julie. She was great, super friendly and professional, and expertly answered a ton of Bourbon-related questions from my Bourbon loving friend. My wife and I dove into the Southern theme and had a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16), Southern Colada ($16), Fried Green Tomatoes ($10), and a Southern Gumbo ($10) for dinner. I ordered the Fried Gren Tomatoes to share with the table, and they were wonderful - "Five full moon green tomatoes fried in cornmeal and panko, topped with fresh chives and served with Doc's Remoulade". They were light as a feather, most definitely non-greasy and had a great crunch from the panko and cornmeal. My Southern Gumbo (A hearty stew filled with andouille sausage, chicken and vegetables in savory Cajun broth served over rice. Served with cornbread) was excellent. Great flavor, great spice, plenty of sausage and chicken, and excellent accompaniments in the rice and cornbread. And how could I not mention my Southern Colada, with Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, Pineapple Juice & Coconut. It was quite a bit stronger than any Colada I ever had, but I guess that can be expected when you use an 86-proof small batch Kentucky whiskey in your Colada. Of course, I loved it. This was our second visit to Doc Crow. We were there a few days ago as the first stop on our Louisville food tour and enjoyed a delicious bowl of shrimp and grits. The Doc sure treated us well. And hoped for that sweet, crunchy top with cheese pull but it wasn't that it was the creamer version and deconstructed. Kinda felt like it was made in a bowl and not made whole. I'd definitely return tho, skipping dessert.

We came for dinner- group of 6. We had a reservation, but we arrived early, so we went downstairs…read moreto their bar. They have a sweet vault door to get in. There were many seats at the bar as well as couch and chair areas. They also have bathrooms down there. Service was outstanding. We had a bourbon flight and some cocktails. Our server even took group pics for us. He also provided menus so we could be prepared for dinner. When our table was ready, we reconciled our check and headed back upstairs. Upstairs, we had amazing service also. I ordered a cocktail that they had on the downstairs menu, and not the regular menu. It did not faze our server. He said he would figure it out- and he did! After a round of drinks, we stayed with appetizers: meatballs, fritto misto, piatto di frutti di mare and the crab cake. Everything was devoured. I loved the crab cake and the meatballs. The fried calamari was pretty standard and the cold seafood platter was fine- I had an oyster off of it. For dinner, I had the "Pappardelle" : short rib ragu alla bolognese, grano padano, and added two seared scallops. Wow. The pasta is homemade. It was phenomenal. My husband had the "Maiale" : 16oz pork chop, cauliflower puree, chard, stone fruit, bourbon glaze. It was a large portion and cooked perfectly. So good. Our friends had steaks and sides, so I was able to try the Mac and cheese- which did not get congealed! The corn was delicious and the mushrooms were a variety. Of course we had dessert. I asked for cannoli and they had it! They weee not soggy. I had three different favors. I love cannoli. These were really good. We also shared the millionaire's tart and some sort of apple crumble with ice cream. Yum. We had more round of drinks throughout including some fun ones - see the treasure chest video. I would recommend this place. They have a great menu. Drinks were awesome. Service topped everything. They went out of their way for us multiple times. Thanks so much. We can't wait to come back again.

My hubby and I have an ongoing, unspoken competition: who can find the best steak in Louisville?…read moreThe one spot we always wanted to try closed a few years back, so every new place now has some pretty high expectations to meet -- from meal quality to overall experience to value. Hubby took me to one of the oldest steakhouses in town last fall, and even with three adults, the bill was noticeably lower than what we spent at this establishment. Service here gets a solid 5 stars -- everyone was attentive and personable. Ambience earns a strong 4 stars with a nice vibe that fits the area. The menu itself is intriguing, and every dish we ordered came out at the right temperature and well‑executed. Overall flavor was good. The desserts, however, didn't quite match the caliber we hoped for -- though to be fair, we're not professional food critics, so take that for what it's worth. Not sure yet if we'd return. If we did, it'd probably be with a larger group so we could share the dishes we enjoyed and make the price point feel a little more balanced. That said, the location is perfect for out‑of‑towners staying at the nearby hotels and those hitting the area's higher‑end entertainment spots.
