This did not feel like a four-star restaurant. I came here previously and had a similar experience, but assumed it was an off day and chose not to leave a review. After returning with a party of five and experiencing the same issues, I felt it was worth sharing. Multiple glasses had a strong egg-like odor, and one had lipstick stains, so I opted for a canned soda. The CTM was overly sweet, the lamb shank too salty, the samosa doughy rather than crisp, the tandoori chicken lacked depth, and some of the biryani chicken was dry. People come to a well-known restaurant for the overall experience--the atmosphere, the service, and the food. Unfortunately, that experience can be ruined by the way guests are treated. I understand that upselling is part of the business, but it should be done in a way that makes customers feel welcomed, not uncomfortable. For example, if bottled water is an extra charge, simply ask, "Would you prefer bottled or tap water?" rather than repeatedly asking if we want the bottle in a way that feels pushy. The same applies to ordering food. We were made to feel like we could only order one appetizer, which was disappointing. Guests should never feel pressured or limited in how they order. We arrived at 8:45 PM, and the restaurant closes at 10:00 PM. By around 9:30 PM, we had only just received our main course, yet we were already being asked to order dessert because "the kitchen is closing." It felt rushed and took away from the dining experience. No one wants to be pressured to order dessert before they've even had a chance to enjoy their meal. If the restaurant doesn't want guests dining later in the evening, then consider stopping table reservations after 8:30 PM. Seating guests until 8:45 PM and then rushing them to order, eat, and finish before closing creates a poor customer experience. A great restaurant isn't remembered only for its food--it's remembered for how it makes people feel. We came back after raving about this place last year and it's gone downhill... The complimentary papadam chips are gone!! Now you have to order them. And the tandoori sea bass (star of the show here) has been pulled from the menu completely and replaced with fusion dishes like chili cheese chicken and poutine. At an upscale Indian restaurant in Danville?? The food we did order didn't land either: - Rogan josh: Used to be my favorite "curry" on the menu and came out bland and oily - Daal: Somehow tasted like creamy refried beans?? - Papdi chaat: way too much yogurt - Mango lassi: Sour. And there were small things too. The logos on most of the plates were half worn off or missing entirely. The staff wasn't familiar with the menu. For the prices they're charging here, that's not a great look. We left disappointed and are not sure we'll be back. This review is only for table cleanliness. We went to this place on a weekend a few months ago, were so disappointed to have the table cloths so dirty. If you charge premium price for your food, atleast have clean tables. We changed our tables to the next tabke, and still the next table was also not clean. My husband took me to this place to celebrate my birthday tonight. I've been wanting to go to a Sanjeev Kapoor restaurant and it did not disappoint!! Everything we had was amazing with the exception of pani puri, which was just okay but not bad. I gave this The Yellow Chili a second chance for a business meeting, but unfortunately, I won't be returning. It was empty at lunch on a weekday in December with only two other parties in the entire restaurant. I arrived first and checked in for the 5 of us. I was initially lead to a small booth but with 5 people, I asked for a table so we'd have more space and be more comfortable. The waiter seemed annoyed at my request and reluctantly brought me over to a table set up for 8 people and took away 3 place settings. They brought a small plate of complementary papadam with tamarind sauce. Since there were only 3 small pieces we asked for another one so we would all be able to try it. These were light, crispy, and great with the sauce. After ordering our appetizers, we asked for a refill of the papadam and was scolded saying he already brought us 2 servings and that if we wanted more we'd have to order and pay for it. Ironically papadam was no where to be found in the menu. A few minutes later, a busser brought us one refill. Unfortunately, this soured the dining experience right from the start. For appetizers we went with: The sea bass (Ajwaini Fish Tikka) appetizer was very tasty but for $36, I expected more than 3 pieces (see my photo). Their Prawn pepper fry was $24 for 5 large prawns. it had very good flavors consisting of black pepper and cumin. The half order of tandoori Murgh (Chicken) only included 2 pieces but for $20 it was fair. We also enjoyed the channa jor tikka - potato patties were coated with crushed spiced black garam - 5 for $18. While the appetizers were delicous, the mains were a miss. The butter chicken, fish tikka masala, Tariwalla Murgh (chicken curry) and even the paneer dish all lacked flavor and soul. I was joined by business associates who all grew up with these flavors and cuisines. I did, however, enjoy the fresh garlic naan with vibsible pieces of garlic...and they do have a decent selection of Indian beers. Consistent with the some of the other Yelp reviews, the service was unfriendly and the food overpriced. The appetizers were the only highlight, as the mains were underwhelming. For a meal of 5 appetizers and 5 mains plus bread and drinks, the bill ended up being close to $75 per head. In summary, the quality of the experience simply does not justify the cost. I searched through multiple Yelp reviews for Indian food. Yellow Chilli checked many boxes for me. Food presentation, flavors, freshness, variety, service were all great! Upon entering, I loved that there was a full bar, space was gracious and well appointed, modern, very well maintained. Ordered the papaya and peanut salad, samosas, grilled paneer, coconut fish, a chicken biriyani, mango lassi, and Falludah. Everything was super delicious and I'm so happy! We've dined at Yellow Chilli twice now. The first visit was about five months ago, and while the food was flavorful and delicious, the service left a lot to be desired. So we decided we wouldn't be back. Fast forward to today: we were craving Indian food and gave Yellow Chilli another chance. The ambiance and environment are really inviting especially great for a date night, and the quiet, comfortable vibe was a big plus as the place wasn't even half full when we arrived. The food on this visit was just as tasty as we remembered: butter chicken, prawns, potato curry, naan, and vegetable biriyani all delivered with good flavor and proper spice balance. However, the service still fell short in several moments. It stood out that, despite the restaurant not being busy, we and other tables had delays and a lack of attentiveness. For instance, our wine sat at the bar for about 15 minutes before we took matters into our own hands and brought it from the bar to our table ourselves, since our server didn't seem to be paying attention. We also noticed a few other tables had similar lapses like plates not being cleared and the next course not arriving promptly, even though staff seemed nearby. As the night progressed the quality of service became more apparent whereas it stayed to get more and more crowded. It felt like there's a gap in how the team is coached on guest service during the evening rush. I did read some reviews noting concerns about service and even attributing it to bias. I didn't want to go there in my mind, but I did notice a sense of uneven attention across tables, which was hard to miss. It's not something I want to assume about the staff, and I'm hopeful the team will address it with some coaching or process tweaks. The kitchen is clearly capable and the food remains enjoyable and well made, but the service experience didn't elevate the meal this time. Bottom line: the food is consistently good and flavorful, the ambiance is a big win for date night, and I'm rooting for Yellow Chilli to address the service gaps so the overall experience matches the quality in the kitchen. If you're coming for the food, you'll likely be pleased; if you're sensitive to service tempo, this might feel frustrating. The atmosphere of the restaurant was relaxing and not loud, which was a big plus. One standout experience from the whole night was the excellent service that the staff provided--especially from Ajit. They were very helpful in guiding us through the menu and making sure our dinner went well. It's a shame. The food here is good. However, they think it's acceptable to basically PUSH you out of the restaurant exactly at 2:30 when they close after lunch. When we sat down, the waitress told us that the food would take longer than usual because they were short-staffed. She then proceeded to turn on all the lights, and come to our table to let us know "we are done" and basically telling us to leave at 2:40. There was another table next to us still finishing up as well. Unfortunately, good food can't save crap service. All of the drink-ware is plastic, the serve ware is chipped and damaged, could nick your finger if not careful. The Indian food isn't spicy at ALL. I do understand that the restaurant is located in Danville and must cater to bland taste buds ... but offer spicer options for your ethnic crowd too. We had an appetizer that consisted of lamb in the shape of sausage, fried chicken and fried fish. Due to my celiac (gluten allergy), I was only able to taste the lamb. It was good, my friends attested to the chicken and fish being delicious. However, the butter chicken was sweet and not spicy enough. The goat biryani was okay. The quality of the goat was good, but it was dry and the biryani had flavor but no spice. The staff is so kind, respectful, they go above and beyond. The instrumental playlist is lovely. The decor is super trendy. Love the patio, but I came here to eat and was not impressed by the food****. Would not return. Also - why are they serving hot water in plastic mugs/cups!? Our experience tonight was a very bad experience . We had dinner here tonight ordered the Pani poori ,butter chicken , mutton biryani , Tariwala murg , butter naan and Laacha paratha . The Tariwala Murg was old dry burnt and very bad . I am Surprised that they even served us this as my piece of chicken was completely burnt and dark. Starting at around 2pm we felt rushed, when one guest had not finished eating yet. We were not offered desert or coffee and when I requested chai, it was served in a to go cup. I requested a real tea cup, which they obliged. I know the staff wanted to sit down for their own meal at 2:30 but the management should reserve a staff member to continue to serve guests until the guests depart. We visited Yellow Chilli for a Mother's Day lunch with four families. I had made the reservation in advance and even called to reconfirm the day before. We arrived before our reservation time and checked in, but unfortunately the experience started off on a very unpleasant note. The manager, Ajeeth, came over and began speaking to me in a raised voice in front of other customers, saying he had tried calling multiple times a few hours earlier and did not receive a response. While I understand the intention may have been to proactively confirm reservations on a busy holiday, it should also be understood that people may occasionally be busy and unable to answer calls immediately. Since I had neither canceled nor changed the reservation, I expected it to be honored professionally. Being spoken to that way in front of so many people was embarrassing and disappointing, especially on a special occasion like Mother's Day. From the moment we came in, we weren't pleasantly greeted with our request to have an outside seating. After a few jokes, we were at the spot. Requested a drinks and an appetizer - Tandoori Sea-bass. Boy, did they go fishing for that seabass in da Bay. We've went through the drinks and about to leave when finally the food was delivered. We came here for a work lunch. They seated our party of ten comfortably and the place has a good selection of veg and non veg food. We ordered their non veg platter which we all really liked. We also got the tari wala chicken and Rogan Josh both of which were made well. The bread basket was also a great option and their nan is super fresh. The decor is nice and the staff is good too. I don't have extraordinary things to say about the place so it gets a 4. They did things just right. We also got the gulkand, the kulfi and rabdi all of which also tasted fresh.
