Their butter chicken and garlic naan are top of the line in my book. Always very fresh tasting and good spices. My colleagues crave this location and we have always come here when they visit from the other offices. I have tried to find flaky naan like this to see if it's as good and I haven't found anything yet. I'm wondering if it's a certain regional kind that's special to Southern India? I like the environment inside of the restaurant. Service is polite and the gal who is usually up front is very welcoming. There was however some confusion about whether they would come to our table to collect payment or whether we were expected to go up to the front. The other stuff I had from here was tasty but wasn't as remarkable as the butter chicken. I was also a tad bit disappointed that their entrees don't come with a little bit of rice, especially with the prices for everything. Probably some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. Came for the buffet and was at first impressed by the choices but basically everything tasted awful. Some of the food was too spicy to be enjoyable. The rest lacked flavor. I guess this is to be expected when you have a buffet with 20+ options. We never really had a server and the whole experience was a little chaotic. We just basically started eating and hoped for the best. At one time a I flagged a waitress for soda but she said they don't have any? I thought it was just me who didn't enjoy the food but my entire South Indian family also said it was awful I'm sure this place could improve greatly if they mastered a few dishes instead of trying to put out everything under the sun and hope for the best read more

Honestly, I'm not sure what to start. It's a detailed review. Read if you want. Or in one line, it's a pretty rundown Resturant with unnecessary spicy Food which lacks attention and flavor. I went at 11:30 and the store was closed, but the Google says It's open. I went at 1145 again The store still says it's closed in the sign, but I saw people inside cleaning So I went inside. They have Buffet on weekdays But apparently on that day, it's not there. And it was a Wednesday. I'm not sure how that works. It's like a lottery. Anyway, I ordered the Uthappam. It came after 30 minutes With absolutely the only order For whole Resturant. It was literally not cooked inside But I was told that that's how it is. Well, It's supposed to come with sambar. But they said they don't have it. They are making it fresh.. It came after five minutes. And surprise it is cold. And I was told they're making it fresh that's why it's taking time. At least they can be honest. I couldn't eat it so I ordered a chicken, Chetteinad. It came after another 20 minutes. And I told them make it medium. It came Extremely spicy. And I am Spice LOVER. But there is no point in putting so much of dry chili to kill the taste of that dish. Well, it Was not at all flavorful also. It was barely a flavorless extremely spicy basic chicken curry. The naan is also a joke. It's probably the smallest none that I have seen in my whole life. And it's crispy like papad. There was a spot in the naan Which normally comes if the dough is old and have a black layer on top of it. I was extremely disappointed with the food and went to restroom to wash my hand. Well, the restroom is actually pretty nice Only thing is that it's flooded with pee. When I say flooded, I really mean it. Water is coming out from the toilet. There is half inch pee in the floor. I have no idea when was the restroom last cleaned. I told multiple times the uttapam it's not edible. The server told it's the best food around here and it's OK if you don't want to eat it. I kind of assumed that meant they would not charge for it. I would have anyway paid But well, for a single time never mention that the food was not great so they will drop the charge for uttapam. I just thought it would be nice gesture for them to at least mention. I can't remember not going to this place sine they opened, thsi has become my go to for Indian food without thinking twice for biryani atleast. Some items cannot be made less spicy like vijayawada biryani's and I just don't like them but regular items have good taste to them, good ambiance and in a nice place whree you can find a Indian store next to them and several other good food options as well. read more

San Ramon Pakka Local has a decent interior design, but unfortunately, that's where the good experience stopped. The chicken was blazing spicy - so hot it overwhelmed any flavor, and there was no warning given on the menu or by the staff. Literally had to stop eating as it burnt all the taste buds. My guests (3), native to the kitchen - teared. What really pushed this into two-star territory was the poor service and chaotic atmosphere. There was a line of confused guests crowding the lobby and the dining hall (see picture), all waiting to be seated with zero guidance from staff. I came here for the buffet lunch on Saturday afternoon. It was all you can eat style. They had idli and fresh made dosa. It included a welcome drink & chai . I liked that they had pani puri with ragda and other fried starters. They had 3-4 curries chana masala was the best. A couple of rice dishes. Over all a good range of items for a lunch . Walked into an empty restaurant around 6pm on a Sunday evening. We ordered biryani, butter chicken and goat curry. For the appetizer, we ordered onion pakoras. Those were finished fast. Service was good, and overall good dining experience. A couple notes, they seemed to be out of tamarind chutney and ice. The best thing here are the robots that bring your food! The food itself is almost as cool as the robots with rich Dahl and flavorful chicken tikka. The cocktails are done well with unique drinks and glassware as shown in the photos. I would return for both the food and drink quality. The Raita was average but I can't pinpoint why. As I a white guy, Raita is a priority in my life and as a baseline should include carrot and cucumber. Music as someone else commented, is too loud, especially at lunch. That in combination with a waiter that did not smile at all and just stared when walking up to the table with no greeting equates to the star removal. A second waiter was very friendly and attentive. This place is basically a full bar with a full South Indian food menu. We tried the dosas this time and they did not disappoint. The service is terrific if you go during non peak times. It is very clean and there are about 30 tables. We will have to see what it is like when busy, as it looks like it could be very popular. The dosas were partly crunchy as they should be, and the fillings were great. The spices were spot on and the sides were typical, but a bit small portion wise. Their food is wonderful. I've ordered it on door dash before. However, the experience to get a table is less than desirable. I made a reservation for 1:30 PM. I got there early around 1:20 PM and they told me the wait would be about 5-10 minutes, which was fine. At 1:30 PM, I asked the hostess about the status of the table and they kept adding 5-10 minutes. Finally at 2 PM I gave up. The same hostess who was seating us was also checking out tables and their workflow is a massive issue. They should consider having a separate checkout line or collect checks at the table. read more

The staff was very friendly, and gave us time to peruse the large menu. #Onion dosa - TBH it was my first time having a dosa...and this was the best intro to a fantastic dish! The chutneys were finger-licking good. #Chicken tikka masala - this was one of my favorite dishes, and I loved how they also added in onion and bell pepper #Garlic naan - fresh, hot, and the perfect vehicle to eat the chicken tikka masala with #Hyderbadi veg dum biryani - be forewarned, this is spicy! In general, the food tasted good and the flavors were enjoyable. However, I strongly advise future patrons to avoid ordering any meat-based dishes--especially the "baby goat curry." We couldn't eat a single piece; the meat was rubbery and inedible. That one dish overshadowed an otherwise pleasant Friday evening. I would have rated the restaurant four stars, but I'm giving it one to draw attention to this issue. If the kitchen runs out of the advertised item, I expect the chef to respectfully decline serving it rather than improvising with subpar ingredients. Guests come here to celebrate with friends and family, and deserve a meal that reflects that occasion. We ended up eating just the gravy and still paid full price--including a mandatory gratuity. I did report the issue to the host, who offered a replacement dish--but only after we had finished eating. The term "baby goat" on the menu feels misleading and should be reconsidered. Also, the ambience during dinner was overly bright and could benefit from softer lighting to create a more relaxed atmosphere. If I return, it won't be for dinner--and I'll be steering clear of the meat dishes. read more

Nice location a bit hard to find though. Menu was pretty extensive. I had the khara dosa from the menu. Unlike some of the other South Indian restaurants this one actually was properly fermented and had a homemade taste. The accompanying chutneys were also well prepared. I'm giving one star for the ambiance. No one checks after delivering the order on the table. They have robots who bring the order. One worker was touching dirty dishes and same hands to place clean dishes, he looked so angry! . The second worker LOVED rubbing her nose while touching our food. Gross. Dirty hands!! Dosa did not have all the condiments like other restaurants give. Biryani had no savory dip yogurt like other places give. Customers and robots, missed the customer service. I opened the door while pushing my family member's wheelchair, the worker at the front was watching me like it was an entertainment, no courtesy to hold the door. Not going back. I didn't expect that i will update review this soon. My family and I went for dinner on a weekday and only 1 table was occupied. It was very cold and windy outside and I felt same coldness inside as well, sadly. We ordered naan, chicken dum biryani, chicken 65 and chicken curry. We were not expecting much from the food, wanted some Indian restaurant with goo ambiance. The chicken 65 has lot of artificial food color, biryani doesn't have anything except rice and 2 chicken pieces, the curry was mediocre, and the garlic naan was paper-thin. The garlic naan was 4$ and it's hardly enough for a kid. I am done with this place and not looking forward to try again even not for the ambiance. read more

I was incredibly excited to see this place open in San Ramon. Really, for the longest time it felt sad to live in neighborhoods where people's understanding of Indian food is just chicken tikka masala, butter-chicken and mango lassi. It doesn't get much sadder than that, given that India is a country with a lot of impressive regional cuisine, especially in the South. On my first visit, I got the Pakka Local Spl. chicken biryani with the konaseema kodi vepudu appetizer. Complete let down. The second time, I went with the ghee roast goat biriyani and the pepper chicken appetizer. Only slightly better than my first visit. These are definitely some rookie, self-taught cooks who think that they have to dump every spice into the dish and call it 'original'. Kind of how people take ownership of a certain cuisine just because they come from that region, but were never trained in the cookery. Unfortunately, they'll have to learn the hard way that using a popular restaurant chain's logo and throwing in a nobody for a chef isn't going to hold up for too long. Very unhealthy, sub-par tasting food with a pilfered logo from a popular restaurant chain in Southern India sums up this place for me. 1-star for the food and 1 more for the ambience. This was like a fine-dining Dosa experience! Great ambiance. The service was good, as in they asked us how the food was and explained in detail about the mocktails. This one particular drink called Ushhhh.. was an interesting twist of guava. We tried Andhra Podi and Ghee Roast Dosas which were crunchy and delicious. For me, the sambhar was very spicy but it depends on your preference. The chutneys were good. I found the Dosas to be on the expensive side compared to what I have experienced in the Bay Area, and from a vegetarian's perspective. But they are so inconsistent with the portions (like in this picture, as if its half a plate or someone ate some of it) and taste (atleast twice they made it super salty). They even miss things like cashews that go in sometimes. I totally understand if it was once or twice, but it happened too many times that i am motivated to write this review. Opened in May'2024, this latest addition to the growing Indian restaurant scene in the Dublin, Pleasanton, and San Ramon area is refreshing! Pakka Local provides a wonderful dine-in experience. They have done well with the restaurants ambience and the bar scene. We tried the Jaljeera Mojito, Old Fashioned Pakka Way, and Aamras Rum Punch. Each made well with great attention to detail from the bartender. Highly recommend the Pepper Chicken starter if you are in the mood for spice and the Nimbu Chicken for a creamy taste. We also tried the Fish Fry and would get it again. The egg noodles were also on the spicier side for our taste, and delicious :). A couple of things that could be improved. The bar dine-in experience left us slightly unsure about the staffs readiness for it. The Karam Idli was cold and no Karam, perhaps because it was during dinner time. The food here is really well done! We ordered the Gobi Manchurian, pakora, garlic naan, Channa Masala, and tandoori chicken. Everything came out piping hot, well seasoned, and plated nicely. The only criticism I have is that service is a little inconsistent. For example, our table didn't have utensils and the appetizers were served with the main course. Lovely new addition to the San Ramon scene. Love that they have unique dishes outside of your usual/typical Indian options (though they do have your usual butter chicken & chicken masala & tandoori, so don't fret!). All the dishes were full of flavor. I would have loved to have some eggplant or okra but Their bar is gorgeous!! It was just setup, and doesn't have the full array yet. They have beer taps but nothing was yet on draft. No Indian beer options were available in bottle, so we opted for wine & an old-fashioned. The wine options were OK, my Sauvignon blanc was decent. Husband was disappointed by his old-fashioned- it was not a proper full glass. More a splash? Service was really gracious. We didn't know many items on the menu and he was very amenable in answering questions and giving recommendations. Even spoke to the kitchen to ensure spice levels on the goat curry could be adjusted. We appreciated that! We would absolutely come back to try other items on the menu! The chicken 555 was good and I enjoyed it but the Hyderabad chicken dum biryani had a very weird burnt flavor and was not enjoyable at all. The chicken itself was very dry and flavorless (minus the aforementioned burnt flavor) and I ended up just finishing the 555 which was genuinely good. I only went here because the other biryani places were closed and ultimately would not recommend unless you only want appetizers and everything else is closed. read more
