I can't get enough of this location! The room temperature is perfect for hot yoga, the teachers Lindsey and Alisha are so amazing and professional. The floors are clean and at the end of every session they provide you with a small wet cold towel with essential oils to cool down. It's a very well put together hot yoga studio. I like the studio and the instructors, BUT...the hot room is incredibly smelly, like a pile of sweaty, dirty gym socks. It almost made me turn around and leave. One more thing: I wish the instructors would stop implying that pain is good. Getting out of your comfort zone is good. Pain means something's wrong. read more

It stinks, I stepped in someone else's sweat when I entered my class!! GROSS! and the owner has awful customer service. She is rude and to me and my friends she has messed up on our membership literally 2 out of 4 girls that's 50% of messing up and it was either over charging or not giving us the proper amount of classes. I would never recommend this place to my friends again. OH one last thing that bothered me too, is I over heard her say that her studio is the way it is to manipulate all her customers. This studio is my second home, and I love it dearly! It truly is the premier yoga studio in Vancouver. 4 different class offerings - Bikram Hot Yoga, Inferno Hot Pilates, Yin Yoga, and Hot Vinyasa Flow! The community, students to teachers, are all so welcoming! The studio is clean, warm, and changing rooms and showers are available! The heat is high-tech, the humidity is on-point, and they use a neat anti-microbial rubber flooring to keep the yuck at bay (it's not 'carpet', even though it may look like it! so cool!). The Instructors are all highly-trained, kind, and teach with love. The open-hours are unique, but this is true of most yoga studios I've found.. I have been taking classes here after work for a few months now, and my only complaint, is that I can't go more often. Here are some things i like: Its hot, its clean, there are two showers in the women's locker room, the studio is big - even when there are a lot of people its not crowded. Mica is really welcoming and says hello to most people by name. Its reasonably priced. The reason i like bikram is that is utilitarian yoga, and seems to be more of an emphasis on exercise, and less focus on sermonizing. The less talking about inner peace, the better - I just want to Dandayamana-Dhanurasana, and burn off the cookies i ate at my office, not go to a therapy session. read more

I live in Portland and I drive 25 minutes to Vancouver to take the classes at Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell. I've taken five classes at this studio from five different instructors and I've developed some overall thoughts about this studio: 1) It all starts with the owner Mica Fish. She has created a space that's friendly and welcoming. If you haven't done yoga at all, I'd fell comfortable suggesting that you try Bikram Yoga at Mica's place, because of the welcoming culture of the space. 2) Each instructor that I've taken a class from has been knowledgeable and supportive. 90 minutes in a hot room can be extremely intimidating and I'd say that if you haven't tried this type of yoga before, then this is absolutely the place to give it go. 3) The location is easy to get to, right off I-5, exit 4. (ask about the secret way to get to the studio from the huge shopping center on 78th). 4) For Bikram afficionadoes, it is a smaller space, but I think this actually helps the regulate the heat a little better and the room tends to be consistant temp wise. If you're looking for a workout that'll leave you thinking "hurts so good" I highly recommend the Hot Pilates

I went to the YIN classes. The door is locked when class begins! No late entry but THEY NEVER TOLD me that so I was locked out and had to leave after driving all the way there! Once the doors are locked they put up a sign facing outward that explains they door is locked. But there is no way to see that sign until the 1st time you are locked out. ' Reading a sign posted on the wall I saw that they have a long list of what's expected in your behavior and attitude. I didn't like the 'check your negativity at the door' expectation because I go yin class for stress reduction so naturally I am not in my best mood on arrival. As an alternative at the beginning of class they could do a 1 minute meditation to release everything you brought in the door with you and arrive in the present moment. The Yin instructor gave us the same (real yin) poses in the same order each time which is not Yin but a teacher has the right to her preferences . She gave plenty of silence to focus and didn't talk continuously. She used her cell phone as a timer and from time to time she let it give off an annoying alarm tune! The music was usually appropriately meditative although there were days when the music had a drum beat you could dance to. I felt there was a lack of personal attention. I was never asked if I was familiar with yoga, had injuries, questions or concerns. The only things said to me by the instructor and the receptionist were Good morning (often while staring at their screen) and "Are you staying for the next class (b/c if you are I will sign you in)" The floor was clean and covered in that fuzzy stuff. Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell gives very high quality Bikram instruction in an improbable location with a wonderful variety of yogis and yoginis in attendance. This studio is not frilly, but it is clean, calming, and covers the basics with safe storage, available mats and towels, good flooring, and nice showers. I feel GREAT after class, I've never been pressured to go past the point of safety, and I have felt very welcomed. All in all, I've been very pleased with my groupon purchase and I'll be coming back even after my classes expire. read more

Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell is great. I've been doing yoga (mostly Bikram) for almost three years. Bikram yoga itself is the most therapeutic type of yoga I've found, making all my "normal" aches and pains literally disappear, so I was excited to see one open right along 1-5 in WA. The owner, Mica, is incredibly friendly and welcoming and has created the most open, welcoming design I've seen yet. Her teachers are great, and the people I've met practicing there are super friendly. Having a space that feels open and positive--both physically and interpersonally--is my most important request in a yoga studio. This is the best combo of those two things that I have found yet! "Saying you're not flexible enough to do yoga is like saying you're too hungry to eat." Someone else said that, but I like it! Four months ago, if someone had told me I'd be canceling my gym membership to start a hot yoga routine, I'd have laughed at them. If they'd said I'd be going three times a week at 6 in the morning, I'd have sworn I'd rather eat my shoe. Man, I'm really glad no one said that. To get the full experience, you really need to take classes with each of the different instructors here. Mica and her team of instructors compliment one another amazingly well, creating a welcoming and energetic environment where achieving real results is possible without feeling pressure (other than from yourself) to push beyond your limits. Let me add to the barrage of five star reviews. I took my first ever Bikram class last night with Mica and it was a great experience. It was challenging, but not impossible and I could tell that the more experienced yogis were challenged by Mica as well. The studio is accommodating and clean. Mica is encouraging to new students without being patronizing or singling them out and she does an excellent job of explaining and pushing everyone. I left the class feeling energized, refreshed, happy and soaking wet with sweat. I highly recommend Mica and her studio! read more

I discovered this place by driving past it each day. Curious because my sister's friend loves hot yoga. My sister, who has low blood pressure, felt ill taking a class and subsequently joined a kettlebells gym instead. She is athletic, whereas I am not. I took my first hot yoga class *ever* with Eric T. He seemed quite groovy. I was surprised how prescribed and militarily drill-like it was. I had to slow down quite a bit as class gave me nausea and headache. And even like I would faint at times. I guess this is normal for beginners? When the 90 minutes was over, I felt like I was in a mild meditative state...very zen and euphoric. I also felt both physically and spiritually aware, if that makes any sense. The studio is cute, clean and unpretentious. The owner called me to check in with me to see how I was doing and I thought that was nice. The Yin yoga class that I also took is more my pace, but I sense that Bikram might be good for me...kind of like eating brussels sprouts. You don't enjoy it, but you know it's good for you. The practice was gentle on the joints, so I felt daily Bikram could be practiced without injury. read more

I love it here! I am a yoga beginner and I was a bit hesitant to go especially on my own. Mica made everything accessible and easy to understand. That doesn't mean that it is easy to do. I've been going to Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell since it opened in May 2013. I'm a huge fan of the studio and the people who work there. The owner, Mica, is always friendly and willing to answer questions. The instructors are knowledgeable and personable. It's a 90 minute break from the outside world where I can work on centering myself. It cleanses my body and my mind, as well as helps to stretch away some of the tension from working in an office job. I have been to other hot yoga studios, but this one has an open and approachable feeling. I recommend it to all my friends. Make sure to be well hydrated and come try it out! I passed my one year anniversary with Mica's studio a month ago. My three to four times a week practice has strengthened my 65 year old body, improved my balance, and made me much more flexible. In addition I'm aware of improved strength, balance and flexibility in other areas of my life - emotionally, cognitively, spiritually. All those other reviews of Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell's amazing studio neglect to mention its biggest asset: Yin Yoga! For a thorough explanation of what Yin Yoga is, go to their website: bikramyogahazeldell.com. Or just listen to my unbiased opinion: Yin Yoga can eradicate back pain when practiced conscientiously because it releases your body's shock absorbers, the hips, allowing them to do their job. I have practiced Bikram Yoga for years and give it full credit for literally snapping my body back together after my first back injury: the pain relief I experienced during my first class was amazing. Alas, after another spasm, I learned from a chiropractor that tight hips were the source of my back problems. I was advised to quit running and just do yoga. Quit running! Unthinkable! From an Internet search, I learned that Yin Yoga specifically targets tight hips, and Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell, surprisingly, teaches Yin Yoga too. After six months of Bikram class, immediately followed by Yin class, I am pain free, running again, though admittedly a little less durable than I was before the injuries. However, despite almost only doing yoga for half a year, I maintained reasonable fitness, and I was surprised to discover what a high yoga provides when practiced 2-3 times a week. As long as Bikram Yoga Hazel Dell offers both Bikram and Yin Yoga, I will make the longer drive to enjoy the benefits of both yoga styles. Overall, their instructors teach a nurturing, soothing class, not the bossy class that turns some people away from Bikram Yoga. Now for the disclaimer: I had a lot of experience finding that place between stretch and pain prior to my injuries. If you have an injury get medical advice before going to yoga class. If you're healthy now, consider practicing both Yin and Bikram to prevent injuries and improve your health. While Yin class is gentle and easy the first time, it may take a few classes to begin enjoying the heat in Bikram class. Go ahead and treat yourself to a Bikram class, immediately followed by a Yin class. You will love the way you feel when you walk out of the studio! I found my experience at Bikram Yoga, at 7409 NE Hazel Dell Avenue to be a real disappointment. If you are going there for the first time, be sure to bring money. Even during the "workout," Mica says, "Hold out your left arm, with your hand open, like it's holding money, and you don't want to drop it." I could hardly believe it. "The term yoga comes from a Sanskrit word which means yoke or union. Traditionally, yoga is a method joining the individual self with the Divine, Universal Spirit, or Cosmic Consciousness. Physical and mental exercises are designed to help achieve this goal, also called self-transcendence or enlightenment." Definitely do not expect anything like that here. God bless all who wish to realize Union and Oneness, and if you are seeking a studio where this consciousness is of consequence, I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I have been practicing Bikram yoga for 3 years, not as regularly as I should. I have been to several locations around Portland but when I choose to practice yoga today... I drive from SW Portland to this Hazeldell location. The studio has a positive energy that feels right. The studio is clean, the changing room is nice, and the people working there are always friendly. The yoga room has the perfect temperature and humidity for a sweaty tangled posture. The instructors are all very good and professional. They push you just hard enough without making you feel like you can't go on. My recommendation, if you are going to try Bikram yoga and have never done it before, commit yourself to at least 4 classes. The first two are going to be tough, the third will get easier, and the fourth you will feel like you are making progress. I bet after 4 classes, you will want to recommit yourself to more.
