The vibe was decent but our server was VERY off putting. He was very cold to us and seemed as if he did not want to be there. We ordered about $250 worth of food and when he brought the bill he flipped it open and held it wanting us to place the card in it with out seeing the receipt. I've been to The York twice now in the last year. Both for my Birthday. The atmosphere feels like a chic little place you'd go to in Manhattan but found right here in Syracuse. The food is absolutely amazing (you can see my captions in the pictures for more details). Despite how busy it gets, the wait staff is very attentive to your party's needs. I made a 7pm reservation for my brother's birthday on a Tuesday and arrived at 6:50pm with all 6 of my guests. We were told to wait at the bar until the table was ready. The host sat us at 8:15pm for our 7pm reservation. While waiting, I witnessed multiple Caucasian guests be seated immediately, the hostess told us it's because they have smaller parties. We didn't get our food until 9:30pm and the food was cold, not room temperature, COLD! When I asked to speak to the owner, he came out and immediately rolled his eyes. I explained the situation and his exact words were "you guys can just leave then, leave the food here and you don't have to pay but don't come back, we don't need your business". I've never been here before but the food looks great, I ordered the tenderloin skewers as my meal considering me and friends were going to be going out after and didn't want to eat heavy. We made reservations but the wait between drinks and food was an hour which felt like forever, I definitely need to try their pasta dishes some fitness had them and they looked amazing. Nice spot downtown for a ladies dinner or date. They have happy hour M-Thurs 5-7. We started off with margs. They're also one of the only spots in town with oysters! They're $1 during happy hour. Super fresh and delicious. Moving on to dinner, I went w the Cobb salad with steak. Salad was very good. The steak was ehhh. It was supposed to be medium, slightly undercooked. I didn't bother sending it back because sometimes I don't mind medium rare. It was a bit chewy for my liking. Service was good. Our waitresses were sweet. I will say, it's a bit dark in here. If you come closer to night hours on a Friday or Saturday the vibe will be very different as it turns into a club. Our first time in at The York wasn't one to disappoint!! We started the evening with the Shrimp Tempura Sushi Roll, this came out in a timely manner and was delicious!! The perfect amount of spicy without being overbearing. I had the NY Strip, cooked to medium rare and it could not have been better. The only downside was that the sandwich had a lot of sauce and the bun struggled to hold all the insides together. Overall we are very satisfied and plan to return back soon. I went here for my first time with a friend for a girls night out. The space inside is a very cool, industrial style restaurant with an even cooler back patio. We sat outdoors, which was cozy and had a very laid back atmosphere. It was happy hour so we ordered drinks and the charcuterie board, which was fantastic. Highly recommend for sharing. I then ordered the salmon, and my friend the scallops. Our order came out wrong which was not a big deal because they were busy and our server was training. The salmon was great, cooked perfectly and the scallops, while slightly overdone, were flavorful. We stayed for one more round of drinks, happy hour ended at 7 so we took advantage of that. I have been here several times since it's been open but only have gone for drinks. I finally got the chance recently to come here for dinner, I was a little worried beforehand after looking at reviews here on yelp but I was glad to be proven wrong and had a wonderful meal. We decided to come here on a Friday without reservations around 6 PM and the wait staff was happy to seat us. Our server was very friendly and he brought over spicy pickles that come with your dinner (like how other restaurants do bread and butter, they do pickles). The pickles are actually spicy fyi. I enjoy a nice mule And this restaurant had several to choose from. We both thought the drinks were good. For an appetizer we started off with the braised short rib Poutine which was so good. For dinner I ordered the Tanglewood chicken that is: free range chicken breasts, collard greens, mashed potatoes and diced fried ham, I thought everything tasted fantastic. My husband got the surf and turf which was a filet mignon and 4 ounce lobster tail, the serving looked kind of small but he said everything tasted good and the steak was average. All in all this is a nice dinner spot with something for everyone, they have a very good happy hour with nicely priced appetizers and several different drink options, I believe this goes from 5 PM to 7 PM, but don't quote me on this. Always call the restaurant for updated information. They do take reservations if you go to their website. It's also good to follow them on Facebook because they do several events throughout the year, and after the dinner rush they are usually a lively bar in the area. read more

The York Restaurant was hands down the worst dining experience of my life. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that our race played a part in how we were treated. From being ignored at the hostess station, to being seated in a terrible location with no regard for our comfort, the entire experience was a nightmare. We waited over 20 minutes just to place our drink orders, and over and hour for our food to arrive. To make matters worse, during our meal the staff started moving all of the furniture around us, creating a barricade as if we were not worthy of being by other customers. When we raised our concerns to management about this unacceptable treatment, we were met with indifference, they were dismissive and unapologetic, stating that this is just how they operate. To top it all off, the service was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Our waiter was more interested in chatting with other tables, particularly a group of Caucasians, than actually attending to our needs. To top it all off, when it came time to pay the bill, one of the individuals in our party asked to have the bill split to pay her portion separately, we were met with hostility and unnecessary confrontation, our waiter was rude and dismissive, insisting that we all pay together, this is how they operate if we wanted to have bills split we should have went to a restaurant that does that and walked away as if we were children. Overall, the York was a complete waste of money, and a truly degrading experience. The total bill of my portion ($123.17) was exorbitant for the terrible experience we had, and I felt completely ripped off. I will never set foot in this establishment again and urge others to avoid it at all costs. Very impressed by this place. I came in a bit cranky because my girl was "hangry" and annoying and I just couldn't handle it. If you know you know. First off, we spend 4 hours in the car and couldn't find a single place open past 9 in the area. But then we came across The York. Definitely on the nicer spectrum as far as dress code is concerned. Not suit and tie but I was definitely under dressed in my sweat suit. The food was great tho, as a matter of fact, idk who the chef was that day but he legit made one of the best seasoned steaks I've ever bought at a restaurant.. and it's not even a steakhouse. Bar staff was super nice and nobody made me feel out of place for looking like a bum. They made some good drinks too with a kick. We sat in the lounge area on the couches which were comfortable for us. Ordered damn near buffet style. Got the spinach flatbread (my girls favorite) then we got the steak tenderloin appetizer (my second favorite). For dinner my girl got the Nashville hot sandwich which she said had too much sauce and she couldn't taste the avocado ranch dressing on it... she's nuts cuz that thing was bussin. I got the bone in rib-eye.. Cooked perfectly and honestly better than most steaks I've had. Good job. Oh and my girl got a side salad instead of fries with her sandwich and they brought out a massive salad. Bueno. A tad expensive but I'd 100% return and I'd recommend to others. If you walk straight to the back there's a hostess stand on the right hand side. They will take you back into the restaurant area. Looks like a modern pub. I was just confused with the entire ambiance and vibe of this place because the back of the restaurant looked somewhat intimate and romantic from the dim lights/ candles on the table. Even the cocktail list is sorta fancy. We ordered crab Rangoon and tacos for appetizers. I thought the crab Rangoon were pretty good. Tacos, eh. They send out complimentary sweet and spicy pickles. I say I don't really know the vibe of this place because it has the potential to be romantic and fancy but they serve their appetizers in paper Boxes. Like basically what you get your fries in at McDonald's. So I was kinda confused. Plus the music is so freakin loud in the front bar area you can't hear anything. Needed my hearing aides for sureeee. I got the salmon for my entree, it was pretty tasty! Light and refreshing. They also have the potential to make some good drinks with their vast cocktail menu but they put so much freakin alcohol in their drinks that's all you taste. I ordered two drinks. Sent the first back and only took a few sips of the second. The service was eh, but I think it's because it was late, the kitchen was closing and they wanted out (dont blame them). The food are all so SALTY. my friend for the strip steak and it was over seasoned for her, i wanted to try something new and for the linguine clam sauce pasta and that was so disgusting I had to tell the waitress it was inedible. I've never had to do this at a restaurant before and usually can just eat what I ordered even if it isn't that good but this pasta was not only HUGE (i mean the entire plate was just noodles it looked like a whole box of linguine was used for this dish) and it was so salty with whatever white sauce they used and not a single claim in the sauce, it was just salty garlic and parmesan balls. I was only served with 3 large clams. For $28? this was so bad and so salty and like what is with the portion... it was literally 3 large clams and the rest was a HUGE plate of Linguine. Anyway, luckily the waitress was super friendly and was able to remove it from my check. Came back after a few years for dinner. Decor is still on point but food really needs some work. Loved the pickles when you first sit down and the wings were good, but our flatbread and linguine with clams should not be ordered by others. We modified the meat and cheese flatbread- skipped the meat and hot peppers. The cheese was not high quality which led to a really unenjoyable dish. The linguine with clams had this ridiculously heavy sauce that was way too rich. This dish is meant for a light wine sauce. Would not recommend either. Okay so first off...the drinks and service were amazing. If you want a good cocktail this is a great place to go. Now the food on the other hand was actually pretty awful. I ordered the filet and asked for it medium. When it came out the filet itself was sliced in half so it was two thin patties and was WELL DONE. I mean I think it would have been impossible to cook it to medium with the filet sliced in half like that. But who cuts a filet in half??!! I mean it was a $30 cut of meat and it was just almost inedible. I ordered a bordelaise sauce with it but received the equivalent of au jus. The whole thing was just so disappointing. One of Syracuse's top restaurants. Surprised to see that this restaurant doesn't have at least four and a half Stars. This has to be our favorite restaurant the past couple months here in Syracuse. Living in downtown Syracuse definitely has its perks, and one of them is certainly to be within walking distance of this wonderful place. The biggest elephant in the room would be their cocktails. Their bourbon drinks are primarily comprised of Basil Hayden for their bourbon cocktails, and Barrel aged Patron for their tequila cocktails. All of them are wonderfully priced at 10 to $12, and their meticulously crafted in front of you without shortcuts. For maximum entertainment value, your best choice would be to order the holy water and watch them make it at the bar, or get the head scratcher if you're looking to get the best drink on the menu. An odd little tidbit is to be prepared to hand them your ID as collateral if you choose to order the drink in a skull mug because they have had multiple people steal that mug. Happy hour is where this place shines. There flatbread options are wonderful, and only $5 if you come before 7 and after 4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. They are $5 wine options consistently come with heavy pours. Plus the $1 oysters wrap it up to give you some of the best deals in the Syracuse area for happy hour. Dining options after 7 and on the weekends are plentiful and will leave you for the most part happy. Their food is top-notch, and most importantly, tasty.
