It was Colonel Mustard in the Ballroom with a Candlestick! ... Wrong game? Whoops. Instead, though the night we went to Escape Zone, we were hauled away to a Central American Jail after some issues with the authority. We had one hour to escape before the guards came back! The Jail Break room was a fun experience as a group of eight of us worked together to find & solve clue after clue. We were so close to failing but finished with a whole four SECONDS left! It was definitely close quarters but the room felt well thought out. It was exciting in the final few minutes to see everything come together! They currently have three rooms but are working on expanding. The Inheritance Room is made for six, Jail Break for eight, and the newest one, Rush Hour, is for four. Overall, a really great time for date night or for a group of friends. Some of the instructions given to us at the beginning were a bit ambiguous but we ended up figuring things out! After this experience, my only tip is to keep the clues organized and work together with everyone in your group! Can't wait to be back to try the other rooms.

We had super fun today :):) We choose the Jail one, and I could definitely see how they put efforts on it. We are definitely coming back for Rush Hour one! However, the traffic on University road is super crazy so make sure you arrive earlier. You might have to look around for the place cuz it is kinda hiding, so.

This was my first escape room and we loved it! We were in town for work for the weekend and I saw this online and the reviews looked great! Well, they didn't disappoint! We were only 2 in my group so we had only the runaway subway experience. We first met with a worker who explained everything and then we jumped right it. I can't tell you how fun it was! The guides are helpful if you get stuck and the clues are great. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a fun night out with the family, friends or even a cute date night! Can't wait to try again if I come back to Tempe!

Had a great first time escaping here! My group of 4 did The Attic and Pharaoh adventures. We were greeted and guided by Ariana. She was wonderful, informative, and made the experience all the more fun! The Attic had an awesome spooky vibe and a mild difficulty that was great to start the night. We finished that one and were offered a discount to do a second room. We chose the Pharaoh because we were having such a good time. The Pharaoh was a more complex series of rooms that challenged our group a bit more. The theming of both rooms was immersive and the puzzles flowed well into each other. Overall, a great experience and we will be visiting the Tempe location again, and trying out the Mesa location! We even broke a couple records!

The best group activity we've done in a while! Working together makes it more thrilling & exciting throughout the uncovering of the different hints and tricks. Ask for Ariana for an extra great experience! She was super fun & helped us "escape" the room! Give Ariana a raise!!!

We played Rush Hour a 2-4 person game. As we have played many escape rooms we did escape (4 people). But it would be a fun outing for a couple or two couples to do while downtown Tempe. Nice job to the team there

We escaped the Jail Break room!

We have been to a couple escape rooms but this was by far the BEST! The room was well put together, and the guy was great there! I would HIGHLY recommend!

Jail Break was such a fun time for experienced escapers and newbies alike!!

Ask the Community - The Zone Escape Rooms

What is the difference between the room themes?

There is The Inheritance where the setting is your grandparents have left you clues in an attic to retrieve an inheritance/treasure. Rush Hour setting is that you're on a subway/light rail and you're trying to stop a runaway train. Jailbreak setting…

What is the minimum age recommended for the easy room?

That's a great question. Since the vast majority of our guests are adults, the games have all been designed for adults. The logic and reasoning skills of a younger player will not be up to the task of solving puzzles or making sense of clues and…

Kinda seemed like escape rooms would be the worst thing on the planet for me. But a friend loves the cyberpunk-esque vibes, and I was going to swallow my hatred to try my first escape room here with the Immersive Machine. I leave the experience virtually speechless. (No spoilers here, so read away!) Why it was great for two people new to escape rooms: -You can book the place solo. You don't need to be partnered with strangers who are going to speed run the place. -There is no clock anywhere. Time flies (serously, wow, it went so fast), but you aren't feeling rushed. -I was worried about it, but there aren't any "HOLYSHIT GO FAST YOU'RE GONNA DIE" vibes like some of the "escape to live" ones I've been told about. There's an alarm going off when you first get there, but it's like, a casual alarm that just reminds you that it's going off every 5 minutes or so with a light "beep". Like a friendly alarm. Nothing in here is on a time limit, constantly flashing, or constantly making noise. Nothing is designed for a panic response. This was huge for me. -The gamemaster's involvement is fluid and very immersive in the universe (but they're not in the room), so if he sees you're struggling, he steps in, in-character, to gently guide you without making you feel stupid. -Puzzles make sense, but they're also just really fun. It was a lot more of paying attention to the room's details and exploring the space than trying to solve a Rubik's cube or a slide puzzle. There were a few moments that required some actual hard, focused thought, but most of it was trying to pull together details of the space and alternative universe you're in (that are all easily available if you look around again). -There is nothing to memorize or "called back" throughout the place. You don't need to remember something that was told to you 50 minutes ago or else you can't finish it; everything you need is always easily accessible, and all the puzzles are "solve it and move on". We started by taking tons of notes on our phones just in case, and we abandoned that quickly since it wasn't necessary. -You mostly stay in the same areas, so you can put down waters or drinks and take breaks as needed. It doesn't cut you off of any of the areas, so you don't have to stress about constantly moving. -We finished it, two person, in under the average time, despite never having done an escape room in our lives. Why it was great, overall, in general: -The "alternate universe" makes it a lot more fun. At one point, you'll get to see a calendar the team made, complete with holidays and other details specific to this universe that doesn't exist in ours. It's these small touches that made me super excited (and sad I couldn't just sit and read them). -The gamemaster (Randy, I think?)'s personality was absolutely amazing. He was super friendly, and getting into his character really made it easier for us to feel okay getting into them too. -I'm not super into LARPing or playing pretend, but if you wanted to, there are free costumes and the over-the-top vibe of the gamemaster makes you feel less silly about trying it for yourself. -There's a little personified "friend" that pretty much everyone is going to fall in love with. I now think I love escape rooms, but I'm not sure any other escape room will ever compare to The Immersive Machine. There's no way for me to go but down; there's no way any other escape room will be as good as Immersive Machine was. It entirely converted me, and now I think escape rooms are the coolest thing ever. I see why it has a straight 5 stars on every review platform AND wins annual awards from the escape room social network. This is amazing.
