Only giving a 4 because I have definitely been in more extravagant escape rooms. This one, we went in and there was only one room. We did not unlock any other rooms after that. We do a lot of escape rooms so we normally sign up for the hardest ones. However, we only had 4 people while we were in town so we signed up for the only 4 person room. It was their beginner room. We still had to work together to solve but it was easy as it said. PERFECT for a first time group. Gets you used to the possibilities on what could be going on in a room. The room host was nice. It was Colonel Mustard in the Ballroom with a Candlestick! ... Wrong game? Whoops. Instead, though the night we went to Escape Zone, we were hauled away to a Central American Jail after some issues with the authority. We had one hour to escape before the guards came back! The Jail Break room was a fun experience as a group of eight of us worked together to find & solve clue after clue. We were so close to failing but finished with a whole four SECONDS left! It was definitely close quarters but the room felt well thought out. It was exciting in the final few minutes to see everything come together! They currently have three rooms but are working on expanding. The Inheritance Room is made for six, Jail Break for eight, and the newest one, Rush Hour, is for four. Overall, a really great time for date night or for a group of friends. Some of the instructions given to us at the beginning were a bit ambiguous but we ended up figuring things out! After this experience, my only tip is to keep the clues organized and work together with everyone in your group! Can't wait to be back to try the other rooms. read more

We were only 2 in my group so we had only the runaway subway experience. We first met with a worker who explained everything and then we jumped right it. I can't tell you how fun it was! My family and I were really looking forward to this event just coming together and doing something fun as a team. Unfortunately we have some elderly members in our party we were not aware of the steps when entering the facility or the steps walking up to the Island room. We called the owner to inform her that we were unaware of this and unfortunately some can't participate. The owner was extremely irate she informed me multiple times that a refund is not allowed per her policy, she informed me the website states not wheelchair accessible so i informed her they aren't in a wheelchair and this is compliant. She shouted at the top of her lungs the entire lobby heard the conversation i told her to lower her voice so i can hear her and she hung up in my face. I have never felt so disrespected while patronizing a business. However the host was nothing short of amazing she was very patient, understanding and transparent. She worked very well with those who could participate and gave them a great experience. Very ugly attitude from the owner no professionalism was shown to represent herself or her business. read more

Had a great first time escaping here! My group of 4 did The Attic and Pharaoh adventures. We were greeted and guided by Ariana. She was wonderful, informative, and made the experience all the more fun! The Attic had an awesome spooky vibe and a mild difficulty that was great to start the night. We finished that one and were offered a discount to do a second room. We chose the Pharaoh because we were having such a good time. The Pharaoh was a more complex series of rooms that challenged our group a bit more. The theming of both rooms was immersive and the puzzles flowed well into each other. Overall, a great experience and we will be visiting the Tempe location again, and trying out the Mesa location! We even broke a couple records! read more

We booked a private room for Rush Hour. The room was fun, well thought out, and not overloaded with key/lock combinations that some escape rooms tend to overdo. The room however was quite small and not well ventilated (only a few small fans). There were also several codes and boxes that you had to retrieve by getting on the ground. Didn't like that too much. I don't want to get on a dirty floor on my knees for several minutes trying to open locks. Not great for people with bad backs and knees. Will try another escape room here as the puzzles are well thought out. Hopefully the next room is better ventilated and doesn't have locks near the ground. read more

So cool! This location is kinda hard to find, even with the sign outside there's tons of staircases. This one is behind the huge trees and down into a basement almost. We walked in and no one was there to greet us or let us know how to check in. We saw a row of computers and assumed this was how you check in, but it's just a waiver to sign. We arrived 30 minutes early, like it had asked us too and we waited for almost 45 minutes before being helped, we'll past our time. Another group walked in after us, and they were helped first. I like that there are brain teasers in the waiting room and the AC was blasting. Once we were helped we were led back to our chosen room, I tripped walking into the hallway due to the uneven room, not being told to watch my step, and no signage stating there was a dip. I said out loud "wish I would've been told there was a dip" and the guy helping us said "sorry". We were able to start with any clues, the guy explained everything to us and then showed us a brief safety video. We beat our room which was awesome, and our "prizes" were some coupons to support the local business on Mill which we got to choose. Pretty cool place. We highly recommend escape rooms! I went with my bf and it was just the two of trying to solve a "Hard" room (Pompeii), but luckily, we were able to get up to 4 hints to go through 4 areas. It may not have taken that many hints (or minutes, for that matter) for us to get out (with 37 seconds to spare) of the room within the time limit if there were more people (namely, my sister). The puzzles were awesome and made a lot of sense once you knew how they were solved. I loved that there was variety and not just figuring out numbers to a lock (there were plenty of those). I love puzzles that require physical cooperation too in order to get to the next level. My only complaint was that the set in one of the areas was completely falling apart and I spent half the time trying to straighten things up, but in order to really fix the set, I would have needed a hammer and some nails (which of course I would not have been allowed to do anyway). I hope they fix this area... it's hard to concentrate on puzzles when things are falling to the floor... read more

I reserved the Rush Hour room for 2 people on a weeknight. While I loved the idea of the room, the layout and how it appeared that the subway car is moving, I don't think the room was set up well. I've done countless of escape rooms and my friend and I both agreed this room just wasn't set up well. It was a great price but I would choose a different room. read more

I saw this place on the website of Escape Rooms Mesa, and since that place has been good 9/10 times, we decided to check it out. When we first arrived, the door was locked and we had to call the place so they could unlock the door. After entering the room, which we did the Pharaoh room, the room was extremely dark and thus hard to see things. Another escape room place fixed this by giving us flashlights. The room itself was very difficult, way more difficult than the "medium" difficulty the site advertises. Sometimes the locks just didn't work, even if we had the right combination. When doors would open, they wouldn't make a noise to indicate such, and they only unlocked and didn't actually open, so we couldn't tell we could open them. One of the solutions just didn't work the first couple times we did it. As for the puzzles, half the time there would be NO indication of what to do. We literally couldn't figure a whole puzzle out until our clue master had to tell us what to do, and even after we have no clue how anyone would've figured it out. After the room was over, which we failed of course, my sister asked how to solve one of the puzzles (which he literally had to tell us what the answer was) and our clue master DIDN'T REMEMBER (the puzzle itself took 15 minutes before we were told the answer. Overall, I did not have a fun experience with this room. Getting to last puzzle felt like a chore rather than something exciting. We will not be returning to this location. Escape Rooms Mesa is literally owned by the same company. I recommend you to go there instead. read more

I was terrified to do an escape room. Always wanted to try one but when my boyfriend surprised me for a date night, I froze. Thinking of being locked in a room for 1 hour with other people I didn't know scared me to the core. But WOW, what fun! I like puzzles and a good mystery. We had four kids with us ages 10-14. There weren't very helpful and most slowed up down. I would recommend going with other adults. I think going with a group of people you know what be really fun. I would recommend this place to anyone. I'm ready to try another escape room! The decor of the place is nothing to write home about. Kinda looks like some high school or broke college kids slapped this place together. But once in the escape room itself it was very well done. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'd generally heard positive things about escape rooms. My fiance and I let my little brother and his wife plan our night out when we visited PHX for the Cactus League. The location was convenient and near many places for food & drink after our fun experience. I was surprised Escape Zone was relatively large, accommodating different rooms with different themes. Since this was a family affair, we chose the "family inheritance" room. The difficulty wasn't for beginners (!) since my brother and sister-in-law had already been to other escape room adventures. Nonetheless, we worked pretty well together -- even if we didn't successfully solve the case within the time limit. The room seem big enough for the four of us. We appreciated the "phone a clue" hotline when some clues didn't work as they were set up to be. In hindsight, we realized when we missed more subtle clues. I have to praise this staff though. I cannot tell you how incredibly cool they are. I called the wrong place and realized my mistake last minute and Jake was so helpful and said he'd let me use the Groupon price I'd already paid for. I ran into other issues and Marissa really helped me get my family in at the time slot we wanted. The people who had that time slot called and cancelled and she took it upon herself to call me and let me know that the time slot we wanted was now available.
