This is a really great little theater. No matter where you sit in this theater you can see everything going on on stage, and the orchestra is excellent. Next time I think I would like to sit in that section. It's a little smaller, less seats and closer to the stage than where we sat. The play we saw was called, Half Time. It was a true story about older people who auditioned for the half time show for a basketball game. It was funny, entertaining and sad all at the same time. The actors did an amazing job. As far as the singing, some were better than others, but I think part of the problem was, some of the microphones were not as loud as others. It was still really awesome, and made the reality of getting older sobering and funny at the same time. I am not sure how long this show is running, but if it is still at this theater, you should go see it. I was able to only sneak two photos, since we weren't allowed to take pictures. I would go back to see other shows here. It's a great theater located in the great town of Port Jefferson! read more

This is one of those "Missing Yelp Reviews" I've lived in the area for over twenty+ years. The best time to come to Theatre Three is during the Dickens Festival in Port Jefferson. The cast of Charles Dickens takes over the town, caroling, walking in restaurants and talking with the local patrons. I have seen The Christmas story here and it is a blast! Not only do they put on an amazing performance, when it's over they do the entire show backwards! It really is a great show and I highly recommend taking your family during the holiday season. The theater is very charming, comfortable seating and has a very large stage. Lots of new theaters are being brought back to their former glory, Port Jefferson IMHO has the best theater. read more

This is an iconic, small Long Island Theater within walking distance to the village of Port Jefferson. The seats were not the most comfortable and for the first act the A/C was blasting. Other than the fact that the slope is not that pronounced, any seat should be fine for viewing. Now for the important points.......We saw "The Fantasticks," the longest running Broadway show from 1960 to 2002. Jerry Orhbach actually played el Gallo, the narrator, in the original who opens the show with the beautiful ballad, "Time to Remember." Well, this production followed that proud tradition. Every actor was excellent and very talented.......the narrator, the boy, the girl, the two fathers, the mute........they were all superb. Bravo! A job well done. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Tip: on weekends when the Dime Bank is closed it is OK to park in the adjoining parking lot. We confirmed that with the theater. read more

Must see. Better than Broadway. The actors were incredibly talented, they blew me away. I have never been so moved by a theatrical performance in my life. The choreography, lighting, effects, and delivery were far better than anything I have ever seen. I can't believe something like this can be found on Long Island. I'm so glad I went. I sat a Christmas carol with my girlfriend as part of a group function. The house was packed, and for good reason. I think my ticket was $25 but the show we got was worth more than the price. The ambiance was incredible. There are so few theaters left with this kind of character. It also appeared there is a comedy club and bar in the basement. I walked down there to explore with my girlfriend and it had a great Cozy feeling. Sometimes you do get more than you pay for and this was one of those times. I will be doing my best to patronize this establishment in the future, and recommend that everyone else does too! read more

This is the definition that I got from the owner of Theatre 3, when chatting about the most recent performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This version was indeed a conglomerate of bits and pieces and many adaptations of different styles of music, song and interpretation to convey the basic story from the bible. Here is what I experienced as an audience member. Perhaps more well known by the Donny Osmond version, I was told that it originally was a 15-minute segment with Lyrics by Tim Rice and Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber for a school performance, that blossomed over time into varied presentations. Yes, it did take me away for a while watching the performance and yes, I do recommend your going to see it. Without giving too much away, there were Egyptian, Western, and Caribbean styles of music and dance, incorporated into it. Even if someone had left the building, they would certainly say that it was over the top in performance allowing a variety show feel to it, instead of biblical bracings of the story told. Shari Feldman was a charming Narrator. The Children's Choir with varied ages of children, was an interesting energetic addition; in tie dyed shirts and well placed on the bema steps on stage to keep them and the audience involved throughout the show. I believe that the man I saw with so much enthusiastic energy in the Orchestra was the conductor Gregory P. Franz. The costumes were of bling and color and many of the crew must have done some quick changes. We were there 45 minutes before the shows started on a Sunday at 3pm, to collect our tickets, and I have to say that maybe the Parking Angel was watching over me, as I was very lucky to find a spot. There really is no close place to park around the area even with public parking. And, be aware!!- even if you do not see a sign, the street parking is only for 1 hour. Also, note, while we were in row W and were able to see, we were very close to the wall and the seats felt like the tiny cramped seats I have had to sit on in an airplane. I had asked an usher if we might get an aisle seat and he said NO, as it was sold out and all the seats were taken. Ok, I get that. Once in the corner there was no getting out past others who were sitting in the row with no wiggle room to move. While there was an intermission at one point, overall we just put up with it for the few hours of the performance. read more

First time here. Purchased tickets for the Long Island comedy festival. Nice little theatre. Old, but rustic and charming. Quick check in and seating. Comedians were very funny. The only complaint is they need to be more aware of wheelchair patrons and put them in a designated area. Our seats were next to the wall, and we had a wheelchair patron, who was completely immobile sitting at the aisle seat. There was no intermission. My husband needed to use the bathroom, and he couldn't get out of the row due to this patron. Either they need to be sat inside the row, or in a specific area. We began wondering how we were going to exit after the show without having to sit and wait for their assistance to arrive. Luckily, we were able to (barely) squeeze through. We will definitely look to attend other shows here in the future. read more

This amazingly professional theatre has changed my life and my entire feeling about local theatre- over the past few years it had given me so many wonderful memories- thankfully they ate abiding by Covid laws and keeping their actors and audiences safe. I can not tell you how happy I was with the production of "legally blond" that I saw here. This is a wonderful theatre with excellent seating and a nice orchestra. The theatre is small but all seats have a great view of the stage. Having seen this show on Broadway, I can honestly say that this performance was a 5 star production. Terrific actors and actresses who clearly were enjoying their roles, the sining and dancing was wonderful. I am always pleased when the sound system allows you to hear the music and understand what the actors are saying and singing. It is sometimes hard to remember that you do not have to go to NYC to see a Broadway performance. This was my first time here and definitely not my last. read more

This was always my favourite theatre growing up, even though i saw maybe 1 show here. Definitely the best non-profit, almost-professional theatre on Long Island. Low ticket prices, great comedy shows, and excellent musicals. The One-Act festival is a highlight. And, where better to go for a night out than Port Jefferson, where great restaurants abound. Theatre Three caps off an excellent evening, for sure. As a side note, there is a prolific amount of original children's theatre as well as well-known shows like Blues Clues. Always a good time. Productions are very thought out, actors talented, not a bad seat in the house. Saw a few plays here, favorite being Little Shop of Horrors. Recently seen- Beau Jest, Oliver, and Godspell among many others. I've also seen comedy shows in this theater, and those are great as well. Just purchased my tickets to see Shrek the Musical. The production was excellent, the whole cast was great but the actress who played the Ghost of Christmas Present (I think Renee Santos-Stewart) was excellent. I was out of work and thought after 30 years of supporting this theatre they might consider a small discount for tickets so I could take my wife out to forget our problems for a time. They did not have the class to even respond to my email. I know they did not have to discount anything but it was humiliating enough to have to ask but to then be ignored was insulting. The theatre downstairs is stuffy and uncomfortable and the staff seems snooty when I did go. read more

Absolutely charming theatre. I saw "BINGO" there. The ushers were great, the décor absolutely perfect antique, and they show live theatre with real singers doing theatre productions accompanied by live musicians. Below is a lounge. Only thing is: they only sell beer & wine with candy, no liquor, and they don't let you bring it in with you to your seats. They also have a lot of theatre programs for kids to check out if you live nearby. A great, sweet time to pass a lovely evening. read more

My son found this theater and purchased a subscription for his grandmother a couple of years ago. (And now it is tradition). AND I AM SO HAPPY HE DID. We have never been disappointed! Love all the shows, love the live music, top notch! Just recently we saw "I Hate Hamlet". I was worried as it is not a musical that my mother may not hear it BUT the sound was perfect. This is a very nice, intimate theatre. The prices to see their plays is very cheap, compared to Broadway of course. All the plays I've ever seen here have been terrific. They have a downstairs "cabaret" theatre where they host their annual festival of one act plays as well as Friday Night Face Off, improv comedy. The theater is also a host to comedians, the Long Island Comedy Festival comes here yearly. That's always great to catch. read more

I just saw A Christmas Carol here and it was incredible. In my opinion one of the best retellings of this story I've ever seen (even including the movies). It truly encapsulates the essence of the story and the Christmas spirit, and it leaves you with a warm, friendly feeling when it ends. The staging, acting and special effects are superb especially considering it's a small theater. And because of its size there really are no bad seats. Ticket prices aren't bad either. Overall an awesome experience and seeing this show here is becoming a Christmas tradition for me. read more

i was seeing a christmas carol with my whole family along with my sister who is 1 years old and she was so excited during the show and made a couple of noises here and there when a man came up to us telling us that children under 5 are not allowed in the theatre( my grandfather had to pay a full price for her ticket even though she is not taking up a seat and just turned a year old) but apparently it's supposed to be a "family production" and then he's saying how there was many complaints especially from the main actor (Scrooge) so he can not perform when there are a couple of noises here and there? guess he is not a real actor. a review after me mentioned how a man with us caused a huge scene, yes he did because the way the usher approached us was very rude. the play was good but i have seen many plays there and i won't be going back any time soon. and when the baby did make noise the actors on stage could barely hear it because she talked when everyone on stage was talking so you wouldn't even hear yourself breathe.. and when she did start crying my father would take her out so i don't know what the hell theyre talking about. read more

Always take my kids here for plays. Cheap tickets and good shows. As an adult I find myself tapping my feet to the music. Always get a few cute laughs from their plays. Def a great place to take the kids. Only down fall and not a big deal is the theatre is older I guess...not really by appearance but by smell...it smells a tad funny but not worth it for me stop going there. read more

I just saw RESPECT. What a fantastic show. If you haven't seen it yet, you still have time to get your tickets. The talent and entertainment was amazing. We laughed, we cried, we danced in our seats. Eras of women's rise to success were methodically blended to relive history. The only complaint I have is that it had to end! First off, I will say this. I grew up in Port Jefferson... I took classes and saw numerous productions at this theater. When they were collecting money to replace all of the theater chairs... My family gave money every time we were there. Over the years they have always been very snooty and stuck up towards their customers. But I assumed that it was because of the staff and that over the years that would change as the staff changed. Many years have passed. I now have a daughter and a niece. This past fall I went to a benefit and spent a ton of money on a basket with a gift certificate to a children's production at this theater. I thought it would be nice to take the girls to a play and then out to lunch or dinner. Needless to say, I misplaced the gift certificate for a couple of months... And when I found it in April, the production that was going on was not one that I could take my daughter or my niece to see, for religious reasons. When June came around I noticed they had nothing playing. I called the theater and explain to them that I had misplaced the certificate for a few months, and that I hadn't been able to take my girls (4 and 6) to see the last production because of personal reasons. I asked them to honor the certificate one extra week so I could take them to the performance the first week in July. They told me they refused to honor the certificate and that I had until the 28th of the month to use it. The woman then went on to tell me to stop calling. (!!!!!!) This was my FIRST phone call, and I told her that. To which her response was, "several people have called asking this question and we have told everyone the same thing... We will not honor the certificates." They wouldn't even let me use it towards two tickets, instead of the four it had been written for. So here's my review. The performances there are pretty good. Sure. I won't lie about that. But the staff is rude, and this is not the kind of place that does right by their customers. Here it's all about making a quick buck. I probably would have spent money on drinks and snacks for my girls while I was there... But now I will never see another performance in this theater and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of what I went through. I have lost all respect for this business after this. Everyone can make their own decisions, but shame on Theater Three for screwing myself and apparently... "Several" other people out of certificates that they paid money for. I am not a rude person. I would never normally leave a review like this. But I was literally asking them to give me an extra week to use it because they had no performances for me to use it on and they refused. If this is how they want to run their business, that's fine. But I refuse to support a dishonest, selfish company like this. read more

Scrooge really owns his role. Performance was ok up to the point where Allen (not an usher) came over to tell my wife that our baby was making to much noise. This is a family production the owner herself said they age discriminate. But they did not discriminate the ticket that we had to pay for her (they charged for the diaper bag) the way this was handled was not good, first we were asked to make her be quiet then just asked to leave no more noise was made by the way in between this time frame. The problem to them came when 17 tickets needed to be refunded. Allen didn't want to let go of his gold. So he started to make a scene. The actor playing scrooge said he was distracted, well you have kids in here. if youre not a good enough thespian to handle that, then don't ask the kids to come. Allen you should play scrooge you have a great start already. You have lost any future business from me, my family and everyone I speak to about this incident. On a side note the people in front of us and behind us said that the baby was very quiet and did not say they were disturbed. The review from d.w. sounds like it's from the manager. It goes to show that the last time this theater was reviewed was over a year ago read more
