    Prime example of horrible marketing.

Canceled my membership on December 8th and was told in writing: "Memberships canceled." Despite that, this gym has attempted to charge my account $99 almost every single night for the past 4 months. This is not a one-time mistake, it's repeated unauthorized billing. I have full screenshots of the cancellation message and the ongoing charge attempts. Be very careful giving this place your payment information. Monitor your account closely and keep documentation of everything. I've already blocked them through my bank and am in the process of reporting this.

    My first amateur boxing match
    John S.

I have been training with owner Mario for over 10 years and he has been the best personal trainer and boxing coach that I have ever worked with. Arriving at Mario's former gym as an unfit finance professional in my early 30's to simply lose some weight, Mario transformed me into an amateur boxer within 6 months. After that time I prepared to make weight for several amateur fights and won an amateur fight by TKO within one year. In addition to the insight he provides on boxing, fitness, and diet, Mario instills in me a strategy and mindset that impacts my overall approach to life. The only times I have taken a hiatus from Mario's oversight were times where I was traveling or living abroad for work assignments, times where I worked with other professional coaches and did not see the same results. Working with Mario is an investment in your physical and mental health, you will never be the same person again!

Be warned. Bought…read moretwo sets of sessions for my son and a friend to learn from Chuck. The intro session was good and the two boys were enthusiastic but other sports got in the way of immediately following up. Four weeks later their summer schedule finally opened up and we went to book using the three sessions each boy had. Turns out that's a problem If you buy any sessions they come with a very very short period before they expire. But if the coach you're supposed to be using isn't available when your kid is- well tough luck. Every week we tried to see if our schedule aligned with Chuck's. For the weeks that we could do the sessions - It didn't - and by the time our schedule and his finally aligned the session block we booked expired. Add in the fact that the company website is a pain to use - and you can see why I'm disappointed.

I've been training with Coach Chuck every week for about a year and a half now, and my only regret…read moreis not starting sooner. For context, I don't have a sports background, but I do have strength training and powerlifting experience. I wanted to find something that would build real cardio capacity while still challenging me technically. When I decided to learn boxing, I searched everywhere for a place that wasn't just another "boxing-inspired workout" class. I wanted real coaching, not a group cardio session. That is exactly what Classic Boxing Coach offers. I was quick to become obsessed with boxing. If you're reading this, I encourage you to make the call. Chuck will be honest about whether the class is right for you. This isn't the kind of gym where you can just walk in and spar with whoever's around. The training is technical, and safety is a priority. You can't improve if you're getting hurt. Sparring and drills vary between technical and looser sessions, and because the groups are small, you get a lot of focused attention from the coaches. Chuck is also highly knowledgeable about diet and overall fitness. I attribute a lot of my physique progress to his advice. I weighed 234 lbs the day I walked in, and I'm now around 202 lbs and in the best shape of my life (I'm 6 ft tall). I've also worked with Coach Andrew for a few sessions, and he is great as well. Very challenging and good for conditioning. I haven't yet worked with Coach Morgan but have only heard great things. Whoever you end up training with, you'll get real coaching and a group of serious, respectful boxers who push you to get better. It is not cheap. But also, can you find A5 Wagyu at USDA Select prices? You get what you pay for. Here you get that and far more. tl;dr chunky guy walks in, lean mean fighter walks out. looked for cardio, found a new obsession and made cool friends.

Kickboxing: I've trained at other gyms before, and one thing I really appreciate about Coach Haley…read moreis her consistency and reliability. She's absolutely great! She's always there pushing us to improve, which honestly makes a huge difference compared to coaches I've had in the past who weren't consistently present for classes. Her routines are also really well put together. She mixes in new combos here and there, so there's always something new to work on. She's very knowledgeable and experienced in what she teaches. Boxing: Jessie is an awesome boxing coach! He's very attentive, walks around the room to make sure everyone is using proper form. Great combos and I like that he suggests options to add a strike in the middle of the combo routine. Jessie exudes an incredible energy that motivates you to push out your best efforts in every class. Also shoutout to both coaches for good selection of music and always ending each class with stretching. I really appreciate that they take the time for recovery and not just the workout itself.

I would strongly caution anyone considering doing business with A1 Boxing Club…read more I canceled my membership and confirmed the cancellation twice over the phone, yet they continued charging me afterward. When I discovered the continued charges and asked for the money to be refunded, the owner, Joe, refused. What made the situation significantly worse was how it was handled. Instead of trying to understand why I was upset or make the situation right, Joe was extremely disrespectful and aggressive with me on the phone. If a customer cancels, confirms that cancellation twice, and is still charged, I believe those charges should be refunded. Continuing to take someone's money after they've clearly communicated that they are canceling feels predatory to me. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. According to the BBB, they attempted to contact the company regarding my complaint but were unable to obtain a response, and the dispute was recorded as unanswered. This could have been resolved very easily with basic customer service and a refund of the charges after my cancellation. Instead, they chose not to resolve it. I would not recommend this business.

A little over a decade ago, I discovered that kickboxing was my spirit workout. It's the only…read moreworkout that I always look forward to doing, consistently, over and over again. And movement/exercise is so important, especially for me dealing with young-onset Parkinson's disease. So when my favorite kickboxing studio closed last summer after having been my fit fam for almost 10 years, I was on the hunt for a new kickboxing/boxing gym. A couple of months ago, I happened to notice Title Boxing Club as I was driving by. I took the free trial class and immediately joined. And I've taken 24 classes in the last six weeks. They offer both regular boxing and kickboxing classes to a wide range of members: I have seen students to working professionals to retirees. And while each class is paced with distinct intervals, you can punch and kick at your own speed and at your own power level and modify as needed. The classes are taught by some of the friendliest, funnest, and most approachable coaches you'll ever meet. I think I've taken classes with all but one of the coaches (my schedule hasn't lined up with Coach Oleksand's schedule yet, but I'm hoping to catch one of his classes sometime soon), and each coach has their own personality and expertise, which they bring to their classes. Coach Mike is great with those new to boxing/kickboxing. Even though I'm pretty experienced with kickboxing in general, I find his detailed instructions helpful reminders to maintain proper form as my dystonia and dyskinesia try to take me down. (Not today, Parkinson's MFers!) Mike patiently explains and demonstrates each punch and kick and reminds everyone to be safe and to modify and take breaks as necessary. But don't underestimate him just because he's a nice guy; his class will kick your butt without you knowing it kicked your butt until after it's done kicking your butt. All while he's low-key zen-like congratulating you on a job well done and kindly reminding you to stay hydrated. Coach Marcus has a lot of cross-disciplinary expertise and stresses the importance of defensive boxing. In his class there's a focus on light footwork, slips, and rolls. Marcus also sometimes incorporates aspects of yoga and tai chi into his class, which is so cool to me as it juxtaposes smooth, flowing, grounded movements with the sharp jabs and quick punches of boxing, showing how strength and power can be fundamental in each of these disciplines which work well with and complement the other. Coach Diego is the ultimate cheerleader of the club and has a perpetually huge warm smile on his face because he's always genuinely thrilled to be there. You can clearly see how much passion he has for, and fun he has with coaching boxing and kickboxing. You can't help but to also smile with him; even me with my resting-workout-face, I can't not smile when he gives me a fist bump. It's especially appreciated after his super high-energy class when I'm wiped out. I'm old, he's young, and he reminds me of when I used to have that kind of energy. Coach Emmanuel is very good at pushing you that extra bit more than you think you can do. You don't think you can do it, but you do end up doing it and then you feel great about it. How does he do this? One word: "EXPLODE!". That's right. Whenever he yells out "EXPLODE!" you do a pre-determined set of moves in a quick, explosive manner at maximum power. It could be at 15 seconds, 10 seconds, 8.5 seconds, 3.141592 seconds, who knows? Or it could be back-to-back-to-back-to-back until you think your arms will fall off but you keep going anyway until you finish the complete drill because it was so damn fun and you love a good challenge and Pavlov or something like that. Off the floor he's got such a kind and calm demeanor and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The front desk staff are also wonderful. They greet you by name when you come in, are happy to help you with anything you need, and are just all-around positive and encouraging. Shout-out to Ina (manager and the first friendly smile you'll see most days walking into the gym), Cierra (she was the one who signed me up. When it was time to give her my credit card, I realized I'd left my wallet at home. I told her I'd run home real quick to get my wallet and be right back. On the way home I laughed because I realized that sounded like a stereotypical bad line to dump a business and that she probably was thinking "yeah, right, lady." I think she was surprised I actually came back within 5 minutes.), Abby (she greeted me by name the first time we met. How did she know? Is that a superpower?), and one other girl I saw one time I came in but sorry I didn't catch her name. They make me happy to show my face there every day. If you're curious or on the fence about boxing or kickboxing, come try out Title! At the very least, you'll get a (first time is) free fun and effective workout. Or maybe, just maybe, you'll discover your newest favorite sweat therapy.

I was going to a different studio and wasn't expecting to want to become a member here, but the intro sold me! Courtney and Mitch gave a thorough tour, and her class was so much fun! What really drew me in was the floor area - the class alternates between the bags and strength training so I felt like I was getting a well designed, comprehensive workout. The studio is brand new and super clean, I feel fortunate to be a founding member! In addition to Courtney and Mitch, Brian and Manny are awesome! Manny has been teaching members only clinics (free!) the past two Sundays and I've really enjoyed being challenged and learning from a professional in a small group setting! I also met Julia and Rumble's resident pup, Theo today. Everyone has been so kind, helpful and are truly starting to make it feel like a community. Rumble is located on the Peninsula on Newport Blvd near the pier. There is both street parking (which you have to pay for) and garage parking (which Rumble validates). They sell everything you need - gloves, wraps, workout attire and more. They offer complimentary towels, filtered water and lockers. You can also rent gloves for $3 a session. Booking classes is simple on the app, and you have the opportunity to choose your bag and bench. We took him up on the offer. The experience was great! My boy worked through a fighter's circuit: skipping rope, guided shadowboxing, heavy bag work, pads with Bryce, and partner drills followed by sparring. All the coaches and members are super welcoming. Very chill, family vibe, conducive to learning. No ego. Good times. Legit, highly technical, bad a$$ Muay Thai. My son also has history with one of the other Rising Sons coaches, Coach Yannick (a Peruvian Muay Thai champion), from a previous gym where he trained for a little bit (pre-Covid), so it was rad to re-connect. They have an active squad of killers who are wrecking shop on the local & National scenes. They're also investing in the future by growing a crop of lil' savages who my boy was able to get solid sparring rounds with. Both Bryce and Yannick are really patient, encouraging and positive with the kids. You can tell they understand how to bring them up slowly & build the toughness organically. We've been back a few times on Saturdays, and if we lived closer, would totally have my kid join forces with the Rising Sons crew. Unfortunately we're all the way out in the 626 and it would be too tough to make that trek during the week. That said, if you're anywhere near the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa/Irvine area and you or your kids need/want to get in shape, train to fight, and meet cool people with folks who really know their stuff, Rising Sons Thai Boxing is the place to be. Adults or kids, I highly recommend it!
