I have been a long time Customer of Earl's Store 1 for about 10+ years now,I even help put together a magazine article on performance plumbing when I was working in print media. I understand what people say about Tom, he can be abrasive at first but I think that's because of the type of product he sell. His job is to understand his customers needs without seeing said problem then coming up with a safe solution to help fix or plumb your project. I car remember at lest 2 time I've walked in with an idea in my head and Tom has helped me come up with a solution! Not to mention having everything in stock for same day pickup! read more

Not sure why there are so few reviews here, I know I've left a couple over the years. I'm always impressed when I walk out the door. This is a model of how to run a business in my book. True, Tom may seem to be less than ideal. But I get why, he has thousands of parts there, and unless you know what you want, he can't help you. Do some research before you go so you can explain what you need. Know the size of the parts you want. If you don't know, take the part in. Take pictures. He will help you, but he's not able to unless you can help him. And don't go in acting like you know everything, he won't argue with you. He will give you what you ask for. I was impressed when he recognized me after I had been in for about 6 years . Now, on to the review: Been going here for at least 15 years, probably more like 20. I just recently discovered all AN fittings are not equal. The metal and the machining are what makes the parts, and you can rest assured both are top notch at Earl's. Many of the internet parts are made from inferior metals, and as a result they will fail or leak. Earl's primary business is with government contracts, meaning their quality is literally a life and death issue. You can find their hardware on a multi-million dollar plane used to defend your freedom. I have never had a leak or a failure of one of their products. The hoses they made for me have never leaked. Yes, you can buy cheaper fittings and hose. But if you want to be sure that it works, come to Earls. Pay a little more, or pay to replace it. I also can say I've never walked out of their shop without the part I've come for. They must have a crazy inventory. Keep up the good work there guys, you're doing it right! read more

This guy is a complete jerk. I am just a regular guy, and I called about a part; a fuel quick disconnect fitting. The gentleman asked for a part number, and when I didn't have it started making me feel stupid for not knowing it. Even after I got the part number (summit racing part#) he was telling me that it doesn't exist. I asked him how it could be when I telling him the exact part number. Then he found the part, tells me he doesn't stock it, and that it's not a "quick disconnect" This guy just seems like he wants to argue about something so I hung up the phone. Ok, so here's the deal with Tom (owner of Earl's). He apparently doesn't have a clear line between internet prices and walk-in prices. If you go to the shop and said that his internet prices are lower, he can't adjust the difference. You to order online then pick it up in the shop for the discount. Strange but true. Tom, The issue is your staff DIDN'T spend time with me. I'm sure all of the other one star reviews are invalid as well. Your yelp reviews are mostly terrible. Instead, try reaching out to people via private message and seeing what could've been done to improve the experience. Nasty, public replies over a year after the original review was given only helps prove my point. You guys need to work on your customer service! I don't understand why everyone cries about going here. TOM Is a true bad ass in his line of work. My wife and I go to earls and as soon as we walk in Tom greets us the same as the first time he has ever greeted us. We ask him for a part and he gets it for us. If we are kinda lost on what the part is he gives us a second to figure out what it is we need and we have never felt disrespected in any way period. Prices are great for the quality in fittings that you receive. I've bought from other places and even Amazon and by far i wouldn't recommend using anything if you can afford it. I don't worry about the lines and fittings leaking from underneath the cars I build with I use the earls lines and fittings read more

As of today (12/3/11) there are 4 reviews that yelp has filtered. Yelp's filtering system is already a sham but lets skip that. The general consensus of Earl's Store #1 is pretty simple: its a plumbing shop that sells AN fittings and such. The owner, Tom, is a rude and arrogant individual. He has this higher-than-thou complex and likes to treat people like they're fools.. you know, typical know-it-all. Bottom line, this is just a local place to get AN plumbing if you're in a jam. Earls is hardly what I would consider high-end when it comes to fittings. Skip the attitude, buy from another vendor. As for Tom, I think we all know where he can put those fittings. 8/9/12 Update: Response from Tom "From time to time we have to weed out customers like you. Im sorry we had to throw you out. This place is great for a one stop shop for your automotive plumbing needs. I wasted hours searching auto parts stores just to leave frustrated and empty handed. Should have headed to Earls first! I had drawn out a diagram of what I needed and the guy that helped me took one look at my project and knew just want I needed. Better know how long you need each hose though.... my hesitation was met with, just tell me how long, not why. Lol. But he had me outfitted and out the door in 15 minutes. Thanks again! I came here because they carry high performance plumbing fittings and I needed a T bolt clamp for the exhaust for my bike. They carry Earl's fittings and are open Saturday. I matched the fitting I needed and he rung me up. This is where the low 2 star rating comes from. He charged me double the cost of the part. He has the part listed online for $5.99 and charged me +$13. He asked what application I was using the clamp for and told him Buell exhaust. So he gave me an exhaust nut (a .50 cent item) and told me these go for $6.00. I must have seen the look of speculation in my face when he first told me the price of the clamp. Guy must have thought I was a chump, I guess I am becuase I paid and left without saying anything. So here I am on Yelp complaining about being over charged. He does carry very high quality parts but price check the silver haired con man with glasses. read more

I've visited this store over 5 years ago on a Sunday when I was visiting SoCal from NorCal. It was a closed store day as it said on their window, but there were people there restocking. We told them we wanted to browse, and they let us in to check out the store. Since then, I've moved to the area years ago, and finally found a reason to go in again. I knew generally what I needed, but didn't know exactly what they had. The guy who was working brought out an oil cooler and fittings for it, but suggested I bring in one of the lines, or the fittings I would be using on the bike, and it saved me a headache. He found me the perfect size oil cooler, with accommodating fittings to fit my 2 wheeled project. Great customer service, and knew exactly what was needed for my project. Great to have a store with staff who knows their stuff! Thanks guys! Definitely a customer for life! read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. As to the owners comment: I am in no way affiliated with your "competition". In fact, your store cannot be considered competition to any business I have interacted with. I did not plug any specific businesses either, save for your old neighbors Industrial Liquidators, who are actually still in business down here in S.D. under a new name (Surplus Depot, in case anyone down here wondered what happened to them) after restructuring after the old owner passed. As to your friend who referred to my noobness: Yeah, when it comes to AN fittings, I am a rookie. That being said, I am a student in life...I enjoy learning from people who really take the time to teach. I've never been in this store and observed an overwhelming crowd of customers, so one would think that taking a few minutes to "skool" a customer wouldn't be such a hassle...but apparently that isn't possible. I guess the main turnoff about this place is the heavy dose of attitude requisite to interact with them. These guys are very difficult to like or just do business with. I build hotrods and need a place like earls but I really don't like the way they treat customers. Not open on Saturday is one thing, but when ( on more than one occasion) I showed up at 4:30 the signs say open till 5 and the place is shut down, lights off, everyone gone. So I show up Monday, tell him what happened, he insists they were there. liar. Also told me several other lies about how you cant get there from here, they just don't make that, so I had to go elsewhere, buy online and wait. on one occasion when that happened, I showed up at his shop to show him the fittings do exist, you can do it as I wanted, he just turned away asking if there was anything else I needed. real bad service. read more

I went in today to Earl's to with my plans and measurements to get a better idea of what I wanted to do. The owner Tom helped me out and from the very get-go was very helpful and useful. He took the extra time a small "mom and pop" shop owner should do, to show the other guys, someone has customer service. Very knowledgeable of the task at hand, and in no way made me feel stupid. I explained from the very beginning that this was my first time plumbing fuel lines for a fuel cell in a hot rod, and he educated me. As for the prices, I had looked online first and did alittle research, and I think the prices were fair. I was surprised of the grand total, but this was a big project. My projects would never get done without their help. I used to go to mail order warehouses, but this place has the personal touch in store when im in the area and even when i call in from out of state... and their mail order website is absolutely the best in the industry,. I have become a better engineer with my Earls AN fitting education here. I can see some people may be frustrated by the attention to detail.... But the staff makes sure you are buying items that will work safely and work for a long time. AND inventory is U.S.A made product that is a PLUS! I went to this place based on the expertise of the owner. If you don't know anything, then follow his lead and get ripped off. I know alittle but and when I would suggest doing my project the way I researched, I was quickly shot down. Long story short, all I needed was a simple filter, he talked me out of it, over paid by four times for something I didn't need that ended up causing a lot of other problems down the road. This place had potential but the employees are what turned me off. I needed some an fittings in a pinch and decided to head down there. When I get there there was a sign on the door saying out running errands and a phone number to call. so I call the number and someone rudely answers the phone and asks me what I needed. so I told him what I needed and the person told me to hang out and they would be back in 20 minutes, an hour later tom shows up and doesn't apologize for leaving me hanging for over and hour. I explain to him what I need and he responds with "well we don't have that" I looked at him and said in this whole store of fittings you can't put something together to do what I need. so he reluctantly goes in the back and cobbles together some fittings to do what i needed, it was almost like I was horribly inconveniencing him and how dare I come into his store and try to buy something. overall if you need fittings with a high price and a side of verbal abuse tom is your man. if you just need fittings order them online and save yourself the hassle. read more

This place has always been helpful, and is a good place to get parts and advice when in a bind. I like Tom's reply to Big M's review- having been into tuning for a decade now, I can relate. There are good shops/vendors, and bad. The good ones that are well known for being good do not need to take the approach so many customers are now brain washed with, "the customer is always right and needs to have a red carpet rolled out". It never fails that when the race alignment shop, tuner, fabricator etc out there that are renowned for their skill/trade, they can take a different business model approach- of not dealing with the customers that give off even the slightest vibe of being in denial about a process, part requirement or are trying to be dishonest/scamming. So to me, Tom's reply takes my review of the shop from about a 4 (good parts, but sometimes it seems like they could juuuust have that little bit more) to a 5. It takes guts to post that, and more so it takes being one of those well respected vendors with an iron clad rep in the business to be able to do that. Tuners/fabricators/parts makers, we are not Burger King or Wallmart, very very different business models, nor are we that "we can do anything" shop down the road that makes your car worse off than better-- but hey, they always smile at you right? read more

Great service, needed a hose made and I'm very happy with the final product. Staff was helpful (name was Mike I believe). I had a good idea of what I needed and he helped decide what would work (don't show up expecting them to figure everything out for you). I returned after the fitting didn't clear my outlet port, turns out I had been given incorrect info from the manufacturer. He ordered the adapter I needed and gave me a call as soon as it was ready.
