This is without a doubt the worst dentist I have been to. While his staff is very good, he is not a very skilled dentist. I was talked into replacing my upper teeth. Since then four have fallen out. $6000 to get them replaced because they caused severe gum inflammation. Very friendly but he really does not know what he is doing. I am a big fan of Dr. Cho and his team. I found this office over the summer when I needed an emergency crown. They squeezed me in, did a thorough review, and have the technology to do a same day crown. Yesterday I went back for a cleaning and assessment. Rita the hygienist is amazing, performed the most comprehensive exam I've ever had, not just for my teeth but health overall. The cleaning was comparably thorough. Dr. Cho and his staff provided excellent routine dental care, with great attention to detail and a friendly, outgoing and comfortable demeanor during my four years as a patient. When I decided to proceed with cosmetic procedures, he was my natural first choice. It was a mistake that I regret every time I look in the mirror. First - while almost all of his staff are competent, I had the misfortune of being alone with an apparently insufficiently trained dental assistant who did not know how much material to apply during the impression procedure, and did not know that the patient should not be in a reclining position when the material is applied. I nearly choked to death. When the experienced assistant took over and performed the procedure, she instructed the first assistant as to her error. No one apologized. My confidence began to erode and I should have ended the entire process at that point. Instead, I carried on. The next issue concerned the important process of choosing the correct color. I made my choice, with the advice of the staff as well as the lab technician. The color appeared correct during the final procedure and Dr. Cho's role in the process i.e., placing the veneers and crowns, was done perfectly. WIthin one week, the veneers and crowns appeared yellow in daylight and do not match the color of my lower teeth which are now much whiter than my top row teeth. Dr. Cho dismissed this concern and told me I must have picked the wrong color and my lower teeth weren't visible when I smiled so that issue was dismissed as well. As for the technician who created the crowns and veneers - he had retired. Advice from a consumer looking for a better smile? Choose a color in natural light, make sure the technician uses quality material, and yes, you do want your veneers and/or crowns on your top teeth to look natural and capable of a near-match with the color of your bottom teeth. Ask about the dental assistant's training before subjecting yourself to plaster impressions. And consider choosing another dentist for cosmetic procedures. read more

Just moved to Santa Fe, and noticed an issue with a tooth. Called Dr. Cho and they could not give me an emergency appointment for four days. I had an abcess on a tooth but hey sure see you in four days when it has to be extracted and you make more money for the extraction....not. read more

Seems friendly and to listen, at first...don't be fooled. Admittedly, fit me in on short notice. I had been told previously I needed a tooth extracted and had been having trouble getting other dentists in area to do anything but take more x-rays and not actually follow up on fixing anything...and since I was looking for a TMJ specialist, I figured maybe I would get lucky to find someone that understands it and takes emergencies. He questioned as to why I thought I had tmj and treated me like I was suspect. Talked me into just deadening tooth with what he later referred to as bleach. That it was worth trying to save with a future root canal. I had emphasized that I have multiple chemical sensitivities and am allergic to iodine. The irrigant leaked all over the rest of my mouth and down my throat...burning the inside of my mouth and throat. I cannot help but wonder if Iodine were not in it...or if not what else it might be. He used my chest as an instrument tray. I had to knock the stuff off my chest and went to sink to throw up. He patched tooth up telling assistant to just stuff it with cloth? then to cover like a filling. After done he said tooth could not be saved and to cancel future appointments. I was sick afterwards, I think I must have been in some kind of shock. I took antihistamines and called poison control the day after. This is a thing that happens apparently and I was lucky I was doing better is pretty much what they told me. It will take a couple weeks to likely feel better. They were not wrong. I believe he and staff ignored the signs of my having a reaction to the irrigant. It was hard to get anyone to work on tooth or extract following the procedure, which I see someone else mentioned, seemed aggressive... I feel there may be a not step on the toes of other dentists work mentality or the like here? I think a bad call was made and he did not follow proper protocols of chemicals, nor being able to adequately keep solution in the dam. As for a nice place...noooo maybe outside and front desk. But the water stained ceiling with old calendar flowers barely hanging off of it creeped me out more than calmed me...an old hang in there kitty with tacks would have been less tacky. After focusing my attention on hunting for access to extraction and while searching for a decent local dentist, I finally got the crumbling mummy tooth out, out of town. I decided to write when finally healed from the delayed extraction , asked for refund. The staff called me and tried to cover for him...like leaky dams are normal. That I did not follow up. BS. I wrote again to ask what chemicals were used, so as to never be heaving with a burning throat at a dentist in future. No word back. Santa Fe seriously needs a dentist overhaul. read more

Been with Dr. Cho and his staff since 2011. They are top notch, do a great job and the office environment is friendly and relaxed. I've had a variety of procedures performed there and there have never been any post visit problems. My recently deceased wife was one of his patients and never had anything but good things to say. They do enough on line schedule and verification work to make it easier to stay in touch. Dr. Cho is very bright, talented and has an excellent sense of humor. Dr Cho is absolutely incompetent! 3 weeks after my appointment for 4 fillings, I am in more pain then when I went in; the work will have to be redone and they are unwilling to refund me for the botched operation. Ive never seen such an unprofessional practice. From using untrained nurses, to joking around while working, banging his tools inside my mouth and admitting to making a mistake while doing the surgery. I have submitted a complaint with the state Dental Board and I urge anybody to do the same to make sure that this grifter can no longer practice. read more

I am writing this review for my mom after she had a terrible experience with Dr Cho's office. She went in for a root canal and a mistake was made by Dr Cho and left my mom with major complications and the need for more dental work to be done. She proceeded to lose the tooth, have an infection for weeks, and had bruising from her face all the way down her neck. Initially Dr Cho was remorseful and agreed to cover the cost of the added dental work but shortly after he changed his tune and now only agreeing to paying $1500 out of a $5,000 dollar procedure. Again she would not need this procedure if it was not for his mistake. His office has not been receptive with us at all to get this resolved. At this point we have no choice but to pursue legal action to get the cost of the dental procedure covered. read more

My wife and I had not needed a dentist's services since arriving in Santa Fe four years ago (I know, too long!). When my wife experienced some pain, I used Yelp to find a good dentist. Boy am I glad that I found Dr. Cho! A good dentist does well. An outstanding dentist surrounds himself with good staff. Dr. Cho's staff (and Dr. Cho) are outstanding! Prompt, courteous, careful. I cannot recommend him and his staff strongly enough. Needless to say, he's become our regular dentist, and I've recommended him (and his staff) to others. read more

Yikes! Wish I'd had a better experience than other reviewers. I found Cho to be aggressive, pushy, and ultimately sloppy. He did a hasty filling that another dentist later tut-tutted. Billing was confusing and misleading. Worst of all, when swapping bad-dentist stories with a co-worker, we discovered we'd both had trauma with Dr. Cho. I've heard similar things about this office around the community, and am taking the time to write this review to protect others. I told Dr. Cho that I read great reviews on Yelp about him and that if he did a bad job I would give him a bad review. Obviously everything went very well! 5 stars all the way. Dr. Cho is friendly and upfront, his staff is friendly and caring, and the premises are well maintained. Oh, right, the dentist stuff. Went to Dr Cho for the first time last week to have him take a look at a cracked filling. Sure enough, it's crown-time for me- Less 50% from insurance, total bill estimate is $750- about same price as San Jose- Dr Cho was pleasant and thorough, respectful and on time. All good traits- so far so good! He was referred to us from Karen Ho DDS in San Jose. 5/17/10 Edit- halfway through the crown experience and reporting in: This is a Good Dentist! he was thorough with the pain meds, always a consideration for me 'cause my body processes them quicker than normal and no one ever believes me until I'm writhing in pain- but Dr Cho understood and took appropriate action. Yay ! I have the temp tooth in right now and fits fine and doesn't hurt. I will be back next week to get the permanent tooth in, I'm not worried as this has been a good experience. 6/3 edit - Well my nerve endings betrayed me, so I ended up having to get a root canal- fortunately it happened before the perm. crown was put on, and Dr Cho's office fit me in last-minute so I wouldn't be in pain. $500 was the price on this half of the work, so total bill has been about $1200. YIKES, but at least Dr Cho does great work. read more

I had gone to another, corporately owned dental office and was told, to my horror, that I needed a root canal. I was not impressed by the staff, how I was treated, or the amount of the cost estimate I was given, and went to see Dr. Cho for a second opinion at the recommendation of a good friend who has used him for many years. I got an appointment within a week of calling, and upon entering the office I was greeted warmly. Since I was able to do the intake paperwork ahead of time on the computer they had all my information ready to go and I only waited a few minutes before being called by the technician. He was very friendly and personable, and it was only a few moments after that I got to meet Dr. Cho. First impression is that he's kind of goofy but when he starts the exam he is so thorough in his explanations I am immediately comfortable. He tells me I do, unfortunately, need a root canal but is able to get me scheduled for the same day to come back and have it done, at about half what the other office had told me. When I went back later that day I had worked myself into being terrified but the entire staff was so patient and comforting, and Liz even held my hand during the shots, because I was so scared. Also awesome was that they made the crown in house while they were doing the root canal itself, so I left with a permanent crown and not a temporary one! It was a long process, but it was overall a good experience and I know where I'll be going for my regular dental care from now on so I hopefully don't have to do that again! read more

This dentist was initially very charming but when it came to putting my crown on he manhandled me, cutting off my air flow, was curt and rude, told sexist jokes, wanted to debate gun laws (while he had his hands in my mouth), kept letting his mask slip off of his nose AND put the crown on wrong and didn't tell me that he'd have to redo it until he was done. They didn't offer to refund for the crown that I now have to have replaced either. Horrible! Run in the other direction. read more

I had very painful toothache and needed to see a dentist immediately. I didn't have a regular dentist in Santa Fe so I started calling around. Every dentist office I called was either closed (don't get a toothache on Wednesday in Santa Fe folks!!!) or they couldn't see me until days later - even though I told them I was in real pain. I then called Dr. Cho after seeing great reviews on Yelp (and he's walking distance from my house!). His office is also closed on Wednesday's but when I called, the message advised me to call his mobile if it's an emergency. I called his mobile and he called me back within minutes. Dr. Cho agreed to meet me at his practice a short while later and take care of the pain. Dr. Cho performed an x-ray and then an extraction of the evil tooth and I was out the door in no time - toothache free. Although I had a large tooth pulled out, the procedure didn't hurt and he made me feel very comfortable through the 'ordeal'! I cannot thank Dr. Cho enough for agreeing to see me on his day off. The thought of spending another evening with that toothache was worrying to say the least. He totally came through. He's a really nice guy too, which helps to keep you relaxed. Dr. Cho is now my regular dentist and I would recommend him to anyone in Santa Fe. Thanks again Dr. Cho! read more

Without a doubt THE best dentist that I have ever been to -- in fact, the visit was fun (great sense of humor and the best laugh, ever), pleasurable, intelligent, but serious, detailed and very focused when it came to the matter in hand of fixing (actually replacing) the chipped veneer on my front tooth. Apart from being one of THE nicest and genuine guys around, and that includes his wonderful staff who obviously loves working there, he has THE best State-Of-The-Art facility, probably in New Mexico. I came in pretty down with this chipped tooth, and he said he could give me a new procedure -- even better than the old veneer (which it is) in a few hours because he had invested in the best digital equipment. And it turned out to be THE best procedure that I've ever had. He even took me into the lab and showed me this fantastic equipment that was digitally "honing" my new tooth. Believe me, I can't wait to go back for a cleaning, and to tell all my friends, far and wide to sign up! PS... And not to forget, the music is customized (choice) for each patient. read more

Dentist Theodore David Cho is my new dentist. I am impressed by his enthusiasm for his work -- the time he takes to analyze and discuss a problem with his patients (overheard while waiting in my chair, a kindly and lengthy discussion about options a patient faced for extensive dental issue); he greets his patients with a smile and good cheer and takes his time. He saw me promptly for what might have been a problem and conducted a test, took X-rays, took the time to discuss my concern. I like the dental hygienist's work also, slow, precise and well done. This is a clock-work dental office--nothing katywompo here. (Dr. Cho is the first dentist I've met who ever used that great old-fashioned expression for something not quite in alignment). read more

I did not care for Dr. Cho's services. I went to him for some cavity filiings, which he did a horrible job of, they were poking out in strange places and fell out 9 months later. Recommended that I have a strangely placed tooth removed because it had a bad cavity and that I get an implant immediately put in, but after two consultations with two different oral surgeons I was told that there is absolutely no cavity and that it was completely unneccesary. The worst part is that I have a severe dental phobia (due to a bad oral surgery experience) and just asked him to tell me what he was doing before he did it, which he never did, making me feel extreme anxiety and fear, I wasn't asking that much, considering that he IS a dentist and must deal with similar patients on a daily basis. I would not recommend him, between the shoddy work, the trying to get me to get expensive procedures that aren't necessary, and his horrid bedside manner. read more

I actually highly admire a dental technologist (or assistant) in this clinic with a good technique and warm smiling and detail explaination for the procedure. But right after Dr. Cho fill my teeth cavity, my filling teeth were very painful and the severe pain lasted 1 month; I felt the rough operation when he was doing the procedure. 3 month later, that side still feels pain when I eat. At the very beginning, I introduced my colleague to this clinic, on the first time visit, my colleague was so happy with my recommendation, since the procedure was performed by that dental technologist (or assistant) who I mentioned at the beginning and did very well, but then the nightmare came to him of next procedure performed by Dr. Cho, his teeth got very painful. And both my colleague and I think that their charge is too high. I was so sorry to introduce this clinic to my colleague. read more

He is knowledgeable, confident, honest, carrying, he is fun to converse with and most of all he does amazing work, for ex., when I saw other dentist while getting my clean up and check up, they all ask: 'who this this work'? It's great work! Seven years ago I moved to WA state, and I make special trips to Santa Fe once a year to see him for my dental work. It's worth it, and I love his office staff! read more

This dentist was the worst. After rushing me through the novacaine and staff saying that there were other patients waiting, he proceeded to drill until I smelled burnt tissue. He slammed a tool in my mouth and had to tell me that my teeth were not hurt. My two cavitie site had significant pain that he could not find a reason why (still 2 months later and can't chew on those molars). He told me it was in my head! I've had major dental work in 3 states and find Dr. Cho a complete egomaniac with a complete lack of compassion for his clients and staff. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Boyfriend had tooth emergency with lots of pain after hours...called a few dentists..few had emergency numbers...he did...we called and he called us back within 20 minutes. He called in anti biotics and and we set up to see him in the a.m. Gotta love that. If all goes well...we will ask if he will receive 2 new patients. read more

I went to Theodore Cho due to his great reviews. I had not been to a dentist in years and just wanted a check up I take great care of my teeth. He told me I had 4 cavities (one for each tooth farthest back) and said AFTER insurance it would be $800 to fill the cavities. I asked for a second opinion and he would not send my x-rays or any other information to any other dentists after multiple attempts. I finally saw another dentist and got new x-rays etc on my parents insurance same year he told me I didn't need anything done, I had no cavities and to keep brushing he explained how there was no signs of root rot or anything else and explained that if there was how it would show up and what the signs would be which I agreed I had none. Theodore Cho is just in it for the money to pay for his yaht. Don't reccommend him unless you want pretend work done and have to pay a real bill. read more
