This place is fantastic. Love the decor. It is very homey and traditional Greek. The small candle-lit tables and comfortable reclining chairs add to the atmosphere. Menu is very extensive with lots of choose from. Music they play is also Greek I assume. Food is decent. Extensive wine list. They are actually open past 9pm but probably only during the Summer. I came here twice in 3 days. First visit I had the chicken souvalaki and some special phyllo dessert that took 8 minutes to prepare. Second night I had a Greek salad and a calamari. The calamari is a good deal as the portion was generous and the pieces were big. Every meal comes with bread and olive oil with olives. This tends to change as it was different both times I was here (different kind of olives). I definitely recommend this place, it you are ever in town! read more

Best Valentine's Day meal I've ever had. Everything here tasted fresh, earthy, and made with love. First of all, an ambience to transport your imagination. I felt like I had walked into a classic movie on arriving in this place. The snazzy dressed maitre'd/owner looked -- and talked -- like an anti-hero out of a Fellini film. Tons of olive branches, old photos, artfully arranged knick knacks, children's drawings... My spouse and I settled into a bunch of comfy embroidered pillows next to a roaring fire. Just the thing for a romantic winter evening. Oh yeah the food! We stuffed ourself silly. - Savory breadcrust and oregano appetizer - Tasty avgolemono soup - Moussaka with silky bechamel sauce and potatoes - RABBIT STEW OMG. Such an amazing rich sauce. So tender. Heaven in a bowl. - House wine that set everything off quite well The offerings tasted much more complex and creative than what you'd get at a regular Greek restaurant, but thankfully NOT pretentious. Somewhat pricey but the portions and quality made our dinner absolutely worth it. Side note...: Theo's waitresses are unfairly gorgeous. I have been coming to Theos for over 20 years and I still love this place! In fact I've noticed a new energy, a more vibrant energy. We had so much fun the other night with the belly dancer and even the new owner was up Greek dancing. My favourite is still the Theos Platter and I love the Greek salad. You must finish your night off with a famous Theos coffee called Shannon's Cannon. Wow, I've been to a lot of greek restaurants and this place is in the upper echelon. Easy 5 stars from me. Theo's was packed at 5:30 and for good reason. We ordered Dolmathes, Rosemary Ribs, and Rosemary Half Chicken along with a half liter of Sawmill Creek's mixed red. The wine was about as good as your average mixed red happens to be but it complemented the meals well. Our Dolmathes appetizer was out fast and quickly gobbled. The Half Chicken had one of the most delicious sauces I'd ever had with Chicken. A sweet tantalizing full bodied taste that had me dipping deeper and deeper into the plate to soak up every last ounce. Every bite including skin was delicious as it had a powerful taste! The vegetables were fresh, however, they appeared to be buttered which I am not a fan of. For Dessert we gobbled down their Tiramisu and home made ice cream (One of which was dairy free!). Great but it's hard to do Tiramisu wrong unless you dry it out. Overall, it's great to have that wonderful greek restaurant goodness on our road trip. DEE-LISH! read more

Acceptable food in an area where it seems to be hard to find acceptable food. Not sure what gives... there's produce growing like crazy around the area... meat production as well (I see the cows... I'm sure there's chicken and such around too)... I had lamb souvlaki... almost everyone else at the table had the rabbit (we couldn't all have rabbit... they were almost out). The lamb was... ok. Not the best I've had... but far from the worst. From a Vancouver comparison... think Stepho's... not Kalamata. the rabbit... DAMN that was a tasty sauce. If you've never tried rabbit in your life... my description of the taste / flavour / texture is... beefy chicken. The sauce is flavoured with some sort of cinnamon or more likely cardoman... and it was great great great. I also had a beet salad which was ok (quite large.. definitely good for sharing). I may go back if in the area and hankering for greek... but I may try one of the other places in Penticton first (unless I really wanted rabbit). read more

Our last visit here was a few years ago. We went here last Sat night during the Labour Day weekend. PROS - Nice ambience, lots of seating, great for groups and romantic date night, food was good CONS - Although our appetizers (taramasalata & sauteed kalamari) came right away, the entrees we ordered (chicken souvlaki & roasted rosemary chicken) came an hour later. When we asked one of the servers to follow up our orders, she rudely said to us "there are a lot of people upstairs who need to be served to!" and then left. Our server came to us and apparently that rude server told her that we need our food to go (which we never said to her). Having read the reviews on Yelp when we decided to make a quick stop in Penticton for lunch I had high expectations for this place. We were greeted nicely by the waiter and told we could pick any where we like to sit so we decided to sit on the patio which was covered by vines holding grapes, how very wine-country! Our staff was kind enough to bring us the lunch menu even though it was past 3pm. I decided sole filet and my friend picked chicken souvlaki on a pita. Each dish is accompanied by rice, salad or grilled vegetables and tzatziki sauce. The portions are quite generous for lunch but the food was just average. My fish was a bit smelly but cooked properly and the tartar sauce was a lot more on the sweet side than I'm used to. Overall the service was good but the food just average and a bit overpriced for the quality. read more

Walking into Theo's is like entering a mature garden or a virgin forest, except there's the comfort smells of a mediterranean diet - roast lamb, calamari, fresh pita bread - all swirled together in a painting of rich aromas and textures. Operating for the past 33 years, you get the feeling that this place is a part of Penticton history; being out of season, it was hopping with locals of every age. We settled into a delicious bottle of local Naramata Pinot Noir and sampled several appetizers before being joined by the owner Nikos, who eased into our conversations like an old friend. The food was so amazing that we went back 2 nights later for a full dinner and treated ourselves to slow-roasted lamb that was cooked and spiced to perfection. Finished the meal off with some locally made grappa from Okanagan Spirits (Vernon, BC) and chatted with local filmmaker Sandy Wilson (My American Cousin)... quite the hot spot and a must-visit for anybody visiting Penticton. read more

Greek food has never been a favorite of mine. After tonight's dinner at Theo's I am wondering if I just never had a decent Greek meal! First off the service was amazing! Our waitress was super friendly and took excellent care of us. Our appetizer was amazing. We ordered the trio dip with pita. The pita was fresh, warm and tasted amazing. I know it's only pita but I have never had anything that compared. The trio dip consisted of tzatziki, hummus, and something seafood based that I forget the name of. All 3 were great; however, the tzatziki was the most flavorful I have ever tasted. For the main course I had the lamb souvlaki. The lamb was cooked just as ordered and the flavor was amazing! The pilaf was cooked just right. The meal also came with a half boiled potato and carrots. Both met my expectations. After a long day of work it was really nice to sit done and have an amazing dinner! read more

We went there for dinner tonight, limited menu. My friend had the lamb wasn't very good. I had Spanakopita it was ok, the artichoke salad tasted like it had no dressing will never go there again, and it was super expensive. Waste of money. Just went and had a Teen burger and onion rings. Pretty sad when you pay almost $30 for dinner and I didn't even have a drink. There were so many stars we thought this place had to be good. What a disappointment. OMG the idiot owner is so rude, I read a previous review and he's just nasty. No one asked how our meal was probably cause they knew it was bad. They do have a big booze menu. My husband, daughter and I went to Theo's for New Year's Eve. I had booked the reservation online and then called to asked to be seated upstairs. When we arrived we were placed upstairs which was nice but as soon as the server came to our table she asked if we knew about the $12/pp cover charge which we should have been told about previously. I said that I wasn't told about it but didn't make a big deal of it. She got the owner to come and talk to us and he said in irritation that he needed to cover the $2000 charge for the band and that other restaurants increase their menu price on New Year's Eve. We said we were fine with the cover charge but hadn't been told about it. Interesting, as I've lived in Penticton for many years and always go out for dinner on New Year's I haven't been charged extra. We aren't in Vancouver and I didn't feel the need to speak to the restaurant owner. That aside we then ordered appetizers and my daughter asked for rice cakes with hers but they never arrived. The poor server was working both upstairs and downstairs which was ridiculous. She's a terrific server and managed to eventually get cucumber pieces as an alternative. We also ordered salads as an entre and my daughter forgot to add chicken to hers so went downstairs to find the server. The order was placed but unfortuately the chicken didn't come with her salad which we expected. My husband and I waited for awhile but then we started to eat our meals because our daughter insisted. When the chicken finally came my daughter added it to her salad only to find that the salad order wasn't correct. While we were waiting for the chicken the server gave us a free dessert which was really nice. When the server returned we were frustrated with the super long wait and told her we would take the food to go but we needed a salad for our daughter. Then the haughty owner came back and asked precisely what our daughter wanted as she had a few modifications due to dietary restrictions. He made a dramatic deal of taking a pen and paper out because he wanted to ensure he got the order right. He said that "he would get all the kitchen staff to stop everything they were doing to make her salad the way she wanted even though there were 300 guests in the restaurant". My daughter had tears in her eyes as she relayed the order and it was awful. We frequented Theo's often in the past and the server knew us. Overall from beginning to end our experience was not typical of the Theo's legacy from the abnoxiously loud music to terrible management. Even though we ended up with a free meal, my daughter's humiliation isn't worth going back. We appreicate that this was a hectic evening however, our New Year's Eve was ruined over this and we know that if Theo and his family were a part of this night, none of this would've happened. I don't normally write reviews but after telling some people about what happened I felt it was important to pass our experience onto others. read more

Maybe other food on their menu is much better, but if you cannot get a descent Souvlaki in a greek restaurant then you don't deserve more than 2 stars - after all it's food that matters the most. Food was luke warm, meat was chewy and their prices are well above average. All in all, if you've never eaten greek food outside of Penticton and you're starving with no time to look for some other place, than you may try your luck here. Have supported Theo's since 1993. It has been a standout of quality food and service in Penticton. Unfortunately I will be taking a break from Theo's. In 2019 there was an ownership change and the quality of food has suffered. The chicken souvlakia the past two times has been very dry as have the infamous potatoes. The staff remain courteous but the food quality has definitely declined since Theo is no longer there. We will be back again but will try other Greek restaurants in penny such as Mykonos. read more

We ate at Theos last night - group of 6 and it was great, as always. Happy to see that they now have air conditioning. We shared a hot platter for two, saganaki, tyropita, erektika and beet salad to start (maybe should have been all that we ordered!!). Everything was great. Add an extra couple pitas with this type of order so you have enough to share for dips. I had a soda but the rest of the party had cocktails and wine. For entrees we had the seafood salad, sole, chicken livers and rabbit. The rabbit is always by far my favourite, and it did not disappoint. Chicken livers were a bit heavy and a little overdone in my estimation. Perhaps not their best dish. Overall friendly service. Best tiramisu in Penticton from what I hear. Will definitely return. We went to Theo's after yelping the best Indian restaurant (Lachi) only to have them turn us away when we came in the door at 215 (15 mins before lunch closing). We were soooo lucky that happened! Theo's was wonderful!! The food was fresh and delicious, perfectly seasoned, and not over salted. The restaurant itself is really lovely inside, and it truly felt likewe were in Greece. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Overall it was the best meal we've had in quite a while. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, reasonable prices = 5 stars! read more

My husband and I were absolutely thrilled with this place. And so was the lady walking out of the restaurant as we were on our way in... she was borderline awkward in sharing her enthusiasm (she had the seafood salata). Well, we get the hype!! The restaurant also has a really lovely aesthetic, like a Greek island patio. We came to really late in the afternoon (3 pm) and were happy to see them open. We shared the Orekteka, an appy sharing plate for two with a fantastic sampling of: Houmous with kalamata olives Taramasalata: We equate it to the Philly smoke salmon creamed cheese on steroids... soon delicious) Seafood Salata: This was a smaller portion of what the other customer had (calamari rings in olive oil.... a real treat...) Dolmathes (1): Here, it's done in a beautiful way; they use the grape leaves from their own porch. Really deep flavour with the ground beef and rice, and they put augolemono sauce on top. Feta Cheese Cucumbers Pita Bread: They make it thick and hearty! As we finished gorging on the appys, the Hot Platter for Two came out: Kalamari: Really light but tasty breading. They had a heaping of it! Chicken Livers: They make them tasty! Dolmathes (2): We loved it so much in the Orekteka, we didn't mind having more! Spinach pie (2): This is the REAL DEAL here. You step off the side walk and enter a beautiful Mediterranean home. Terra cotta tile floors, white washed walls, exposed timber frame, a 2 story central area, plants growing everywhere, homey pictures on the walls and a gentleman host (2nd generation .) The food is outstanding Greek specialties. I love that they make Greek food but don't throw in a few Italian or Lebanese recipes to 'round out the whole Mediterranean theme.' This is Greek through and through. I am a huge fan of lamb so I always convince my husband (easily) that we have to come back for dinner a few times in a row so that I can have the lamb, then the moussaka , then the seafood.... I have always had excellent service, we never feel rushed and we feel like family with the owner and his great staff. Save room for coffee and desserts. read more

They had a scantily clad belly dancer performing in among the tables. After her performance the owner came over and stuffed cash in her bikini. Like I said, went there with my two little girls. This is a premier Greek restaurant. The style is old world charm with big old wood beams, a giant fireplace and intimate candlelight. Service was impeccable, friendly and personal. For those who know the Greek restaurant in Rutland (Kelowna), The Olympia Pizzaria And Greek Taverna, and love it, will be quite at home here. Great for date nights. Theo's Platter for Two, serves up a nice selection of Greek classics with an excellent included Greek salad (for two) and (an even better) bread starter. The lamb is the best I've ever had. It was not even a little bit gamey - one of the weaknesses of the meat. The beef souvlaki, to die for, succulent, tender and wonderfully flavourful. The cellar is of good size and variety, containing mostly local excellence. If you know and love Okanagan (particularly Naramata) wines at all, you will find something that will suit you. There are four beer taps serving some of the excellent local beers, making the beer selection far better than most restaurants, never mind a Greek restaurant. The baklava is also the best I've ever had, edging my other (Rutland) fave. And only by a little. The Greek Coffee is a little better in Rutland, but not by much. Overall, there is little to choose between the two establishments, other than location, relative to where you live: or at least are at that moment. I have to agree the atmosphere is fabulous but we where very disappointed about the food, my lamb souvlaki was super dry, the greek potatoes looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for a while, hard skin had formed on top. Waitress came towards end of the meal when literally waved over, never asked for a refill or now meal was. Seemed she had some regulars/friends sitting in the corner by the bar. They came in well after us but their food AND drinks came immediately, while we waited & waited. For the prices they charged I've certainly been to better. It was an unfortunate choice. I've never left a restaurant still hungry after $125 meal. read more
