So overall the food is not that bad. But other factors relegated this place into the three star zone. They have all the standard dim sum fare. Ha gow has lots of filling but the dough is both too thick and too wimpy at the same time. Siu mai were very large and tasty. Chow fun tasted like what I always remember. It's not bad food at all. This restaurant is my family's go-to for family dinner - I love this place! There is a parking lot right outside the restaurant and there are plenty of tables inside. The food came out pretty fast after we ordered. Since their portions are so large, I recommend ordering family-style and sharing! My favorite dish is the Seafood & Fish Maw Soup. This time, we also ordered other dishes such as the Seafood Fried Rice and the Pepper Salted Squid, but were surprised when all the dishes tasted a little more bland than they usually do, which was disappointing... normally, their food has such rich flavors! A fellow Yelper said this is owned by the same people as the old Jin Wah in Beaverton. This seems like the case as we recognized one of the servers, and the food seemed the same. We wandered in on a Sunday. They have dim sum with limited offerings--just one steam cart and one dry cart, but you can also order additional dishes, which most tables were doing. The skin on the ha gow was on the thick side, but the tofu skin rolls were good. We ordered the salt and pepper squid, which I still think they do the best job with. First, the big negative: one of the sketchiest parking lots in the city. I kept checking on my car and walked members of our party to theirs. Once you can get beyond that then this is a very good Chinese-Vietnamese offering. Growing up in Portland, this restaurant has been a staple but I haven't visited for the past couple of years until recently. The restaurant is spacious inside, with lots of seating so that it's perfect for big parties. The staff the whole time was very quick and nice. When I went, we ordered a number of dishes to share family-style. One thing I really appreciate about this spot is that there's a nice blend of Vietnamese-Chinese food and it offers a large variety of dishes that aren't typically offered at Portland restaurants. All of their dishes were pretty good, but I wouldn't say that quality was the same across all dishes. Some were saltier than they should be and others were more bland than I would expect--it just depends on your order. We came in for dinner for a group of 6 on a Saturday night right at 5pm. There were maybe a few tables but not yet super busy (as it did later while we were dining). They seated us immediately, gave us water, and left us sitting for about 15 mins. No menus. No one came to check on us. There were maybe two other big tables that they were tending to. I went to the front to ask for menus, the guy seemed shocked and apologetic that menus weren't distributed to us yet. Otherwise, staff were friendly, refilled waters and tea throughout dinner. For the food... the sweet & sour pork spare ribs were delicious, lightly breaded, and tender, however, that was probably the only thing that was really enjoyable. I do plan on calling the oregon department to report this restaurant. If you like tofu, this restaurant has really good dishes! Best pepper salted tofu I've ever had anywhere, both the regular and the J-tofu (which is silken tofu). The Jade tofu dish was excellent as well. The green beans are great. Portions are enough to share with 3-4 people. Eventually I'm going to try everything on their vegetarian menu! Brought my partner D here for lunch, we each tried one dimsum, I got the chicken feet and he got the stuffed bean curd. They actually were both quite tasty and bigger than Good World's dim sum. I got the seafood transparent noodle soup and D got the duck noodle soup. Turns out the duck noodle soup was a cold shredded duck salad with a hot vermicelli noodle soup! It was huge and really interesting flavors. My seafood ns was just as expected and it was a clear broth that I've added some white pepper to enhance the flavor. The staff speak Cantonese even though they're Vietnamese and provided really good customer service. And my wife had order a fresh coconut and curry chicken. The coconut well is from WinCo nextdoor lol but it works i guess. And the chicken was more or less decent, I had no complaints but neither anything special to say. It wasn't good enough to make me want to finish either plate. My issues is with the cost and quality of the food. 17 bucks for chicken with cashew with no rice or anything else and the food was so bland and worse, hardly any chicken but tons of celery. We also ordered the salt and pepper squid which was good but not like it used to be. This place has potential but needs to get its recipes dialed in and for 17 bucks there should be way more chicken in the dish.
