Fish in szechuan sauce. Looked prettier before i started to eat it.
    Dan R.

Tony said he wanted noodles so we were gong to go to Kenny's noodles. Then he saw another place that interested him, but when I checked on Google they were closed most of the week. So back to Kenny's. Google said they were open. Sign on door saying on vacation this week. Closest Asian place was China Wind, that I'd gone to 10 or more years ago, and it was pretty mediocre Chinese American, but cheap and filling lunch specials. Things Change! No lunch special but a full menu with a number of interesting items. I got the fried fish in Szechuan sauce. Came with bright, nearly raw orange peppers, onion and bits of hot peppers. Tip--stir the food around as the sauce sinks/ Tony got a gigantic mound of curried "yard long noodles" which i don't think these were as they were quite thin and a little dry (stirring helped here too.) Very friendly service. Fairly plain decor.

My family and I came in late at night for dinner. We got combination G, the salt and pepper squid and the house special noodles. First off, the place looks a little rundown, but I learned quickly not to judge a place by its exterior. The squid was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. So good that I came back the next day and reordered it. The fried rice and noodles had a nice wok hei flavor. 10/10 would visit again when I'm in Portland

Sweet & Sour Chicken Dinner Special

Looks somewhat run down from the outside (it could use some sprucing up on the exterior, maybe a paint job) but the inside is decent enough. It's not extensively decorated like some restaurants can be but clean. I got the sweet & sour chicken dinner special for $16.95. The portion size is huge - at least 3 meals for me. My meal was yummy. The dinner specials (there's nine options) typically come with the meat choice, fried rice, 3 pieces BBQ pork, 2 (little) fried shrimps, egg roll, and side of soup. Jasmine tea on the house. The other selections on the menu are pretty vast. They have a lot of options here. You are sure to find something interesting. I recommend this place. Perhaps it's not as popular as other Cinese restaurants in the area, but definately worth going to. There was a decent amount of people on a Friday night but not super crowded which is another plus in my opinion. Bonus = open until 11 pm, if you happen to need a late night place.

ok so theres like this meme going around abt how on yelp if u wanna find the good chinese food, go w the one that has 3 1/2 stars on yelp... anyways, this is one lf those legit 3 1/2 chinese food spots... went here during the lunar new year and like wow... havent had cantonese cuisine this good in a long time. both the appetizer soup and the fried egg tofu dish were like... last meal b4 the electric chair worthy... also ordered the steamed fish and like am low key sad that i didnt get to eat more b4 it was suddenly all gone... rly its all abt the food. yea the interior is kind of dive-y and i cant speak for how they do their crowd pleaser dishes... but like, the stuff we ordered was done legit and reflected immense care on a special holiday lets see... other good chinese restaurants in portland: taste of sichuan in beaverton/sichuan chef in johns landing for sichuan cuisine; theres a shanghainese restaurant in downtown that does a killer hong shao rou; hong kong cafe is decent for dim sum; golden horse in old town was the bomb back in the day and i hear its still p good... portland has less goin on than other major cities but that doesnt mean there arent those hidden spots out there... idk id take these spots any day over din tai fung (im more of a sheng jian bao over xiao long bao person) and like w/e hipster chinese joints popping up in gentrified portland (unless yr goin on a date with someone whose fav band is alvvays) anyways tl;dr, good if u order the right stuff

Every dish we ordered was off-the-charts delicious. We had: * Garlic dry green beans * Szechuan Dan Dan noodles * Beef dry pot * Pork soup dumplings I wouldn't change a single thing--everything was perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, and served fresh and hot. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, great for a relaxed night out. If you're even thinking about trying this place, stop thinking and just go. Duck House is now officially at the top of my dining list!

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

We rolled…read morethrough Portland and stopped for a few plates, and everything punched way above a typical highway stop. The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

The place was full of hungry locals and tourists but was uncustomarily quiet and calm. From the hostess that seated us, to the waitress and servers, all staff and management were extremely polite, positive and helpful. We were starving. So we ordered 3 entrees and side of Dry-fried String beans. The Green Beans were cooked perfectly and the serving size was generous! One of our new favorites is the Mongolian Chicken. Is not a spicy Chinese food dish but the moist chicken and seasonings produced a yummy & comfort food level dish! As usual, the lightly battered & deveined Butterfly prepared Salt & Pepper Shrimp was mouthwatering, with every bite. As the last entree to be served. The ten Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings were fresh and flavorful. Needless to say, with only 2 patrons eating lunch with 3 heaping entrees plus Dry-fried String beans and white rice - we took home 2 more meals worth of Chinese food leftovers. Typically at most Chinese restaurants, especially fried dishes, you'll see a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. Their service is always fast and friendly. There is a gentleman in glasses that is always happy to serve and answer your questions. He is always happy to pack your food for you to go if you have leftovers as well, which is a lovely gesture. They have very cute decorations inside, from lucky cats with fortune cookies in their mouths, or a painted wall with a Panda cooking delicious food. I'd steer clear from their soup dishes, most of them lack flavor. I highly recommend their Chopped Pepper Fish and their Jade Tofu items though. Very flavorful and not very heavy! Plenty of parking is available which is lovely for eating in Portland, do not let this spot be missed if you've never tried it!
