Living d block away I was her everyday growing up for a hoagie, penny candy, playing the juke box or playing the video games that once had a place here. A family owned place in its entire existence, the Base always made you feel like you were family as well. The food here is made today as it has been since I was a kid. No changes you ask? When you put out quality food for so many years why would you need to. The cold cut which is my go to tastes the same ever time you get one for as long as you can remember. Nothing fancy about it just quality meats on a great tasting roll. The inside hasn't changed much over the years and that is perfect. A lot of places remodel many times to keep up to current times but keeping that old school look makes Third Base exactly what locals know it to be or remember it as. read more

The lettuce is crisp, the tomatoes and flavorful (when all the fast food joints have mushy nothingness), the chopped up onions and peppers give some zing zing ziiiiiing baby!!, the roll is fresh and tasty with softness on the inside and a light crispness on the outside... let's get to the main event, the cold cuts are delicious and high quality. This is the kind of place you wish existed around the corner of where you lived. Great food, fresh ingredients, quick and extremely friendly service. The prices are ridiculously cheap. If you're in Hazleton you can't miss this place. Besides, this place has been around for at least 5 decades. I got the cold cut hoagie one day and a double cheeseburger with bacon (greasy and abundant) the next day. The ambiance is fantastic, it's an old 1950's style deli, they made our coke with syrup and a spoon just like everyone did when I was a kid, it's just so very nostalgic! The food was very good, but I have to say for the price of the sub it wasn't very big. I do understand that prices of everything have skyrocketed, but this still just seems a bit excessive... but that really didn't affect anything other than my wallet, and otherwise it was a fantastic throwback to my hometown deli in Marietta Georgia back in the late 50's early 70's. I have to say that the very very sweet lady that waited on us was so fast and efficient, yet still had that bit of fun 1950's charisma that goes along with a deli/diner of this era. If it was just a hair less expensive I would've given 5 stars without a doubt. We will definitely be back when we visit again! read more

Simple, straight forward, delicious. The hoagies are famous, burgers delicious, and the atmosphere causes you to put the cell phone away and just enjoy life. Walk-in, sit down on a stool at the counter, pick an item from the board hung on the wall, tell the staff what you want, walk over and grab your own beverage from the cooler and bag of chips from the stand, sit down and dig in. Stopped in this Wednesday morning up in the area visit relatives from Philly. Always wanted to stop here and finally had the chance. David and the family were super nice and told me the history of the place, about Joe and the area. The breakfast and coffee was excellent and the price very reasonable. Very friendly owners. Hours are not the best and the hoagies could be bigger. Still a town favorite.

I used to absolutely love 3rd base. However even after covid restrictions were lifted they remain on a call in order non sense. Good luck getting a hold of them. My dad and I waited over 30 minutes non stop calling right in front of the place and no answer. They were open though. A couple people pulled up and got some stuff. Even if you love this place you are better off going to subway. At least you will be served. Goodbye 3rd base. I refuse to do business with you anymore. read more

My husband and I were on our way to Buffalo and decided to stop in Hazleton for lunch, checked on Yelp and found this terrific old fashioned luncheonette, counter space only (3 circular) low seats but we made it, David cooking in a small flat grill, his wife taking the orders and moving so fast with a smile and friendly face. We ordered the western hoagie and I ask for bacon to be added, then my husband said the same, and two other men about to order saw our sandwiches and ordered them too. They were soooooo good, freshly made and you can see David enjoys what he is doing and the food is made with love, it comes thru. Coffee fresh and every refill gets a fresh cup. We ended buying a lot of little bags of candy they have in a cabinet. Prices unbelievable and food a delight. Now I want to go to Buffalo via Hazleton so we can eat there again. read more

I have never written a five star review, and especially not for a joint where two lunches cost $10, but this is the real deal. The people are so friendly, and the food is just very very good. They have antipasto salad that looks quite unassuming that more than rivals what you would get in the best Italian restaurants in New York or Chicago, and it tips the scale at $4.95! When we were ready to leave and asked Dave for the check, we learned they don't take credit cards. There is a PNC bank two short blocks away, so no big deal, but one of the diners, who was related to Dave and Joe, offered to pay for our lunch so that we would do the same at the next place we stopped! On principal, I wouldn't do this because, of course, the next place would have been much more expensive so it wasn't a good deal for me :-). But they are all wonderful people, and the place is just so low key and down home, and the food is A+ read more

It would be easy to say "I don't know how they do it?", but truth is simple. They use top grade everything including the bread from Senapes and always make every sandwich/hoagie the same, for years and years. For example the ordinary sounding Cold Cut is as good as any I've ever had anywhere. Ditto, everything else on their menu. Prices are low and food quality is A+ One of my favorite subs from here is their chicken cheese steak, it comes overflowing with chicken, cheese, peppers, and onions off the bun & always served with a fork in it!
