This place was satisfying in the way that PJ's Seafood Grille was not. It can be crowded, especially when you take into account the fact that this appears to be the only breakfast place open on the island. My party of five shared corned beef hash, sausage gravy biscuits, eggs on toast, and other brunch fare. I would legitimately slap a child across the face for another taste of those sausage gravy biscuits. The servers were incredibly friendly, and cheerfully overlooked some ill-advised words spoken (shouted) at an ill-advised volume. Apparently saying things like "WHAT'S UP, MOTHERFUCKERS" is not family-friendly. If you're suffering from a hangover, this is a great place to re-learn how to speak like a human being again. read more

I had freshly made corned beef hash with my eggs (could have used a little more peppers and onions) and freshly made blueberry preserves for my fresh toast. My wife had fresh Greek yogurt with honey. Stopped by for brunch over the weekend and it was excellent. I had the 3rd Street Benedict (poached eggs, chorizo, chipotle hollandaise, and cornbread) and it was very good. There was no wait (on a Saturday around 12:30p) and we sat outside on the patio, which is really quaint and relaxing. My only complaint is that they didn't have bloody mary's (they could make a non-alcoholic version with rice wine) or any other typical brunch cocktail drinks. We have come here both for breakfast and dinner so I will comment on both aspects. Just a few notes on the restaurant: reservations are a must, especially during vacation times and the outdoor patio area is lovely to sit at during warmer weather! Their breakfast menu was simple, though what seemed to be based on slightly fresher ingredients than other breakfast places nearby. The service was quick and extremely friendly, and we were even offered a to-go cup filled with the beverage we were each drinking, which was a nice touch. The orange juice was very fresh and my husband enjoyed it immensely. The Boca breakfast is the tradition breakfast of eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries and toast. The bacon was thick, the home fries were delicious potato wedges and the eggs weren't rubbery, which are all key ingredients to a great breakfast to me! However, one of the group ordered the eggs benedict and was quite disappointed in the sauce remarking that it seemed like it was directly from a can, rather than being made from the fresh ingredients that so many of the other dishes contained. All in all, though, a decent breakfast place. For dinner, the service was similar. It was friendly and fairly quick--especially when you assume that dinners are served on "island time" as we affectionately refer to it. However, by far and large the food was forgettable. The caprese salad was fresh, but didn't have quite enough balsamic to give it a little more flavor. The lobster bisque had a decent broth, but for such a large bowl, the two pieces of lobster claw that was the soup didn't quite fit. I had a prawn dish with homemade pasta, tomatoes, and a light tomato sauce. The noodles were wonderful, but the rest of the ingredients were just OK. My husband had the spinach ravioli with the tomato sauce and again, said that they weren't bad, but weren't phenomenal. My mother had the petite filet which was cooked well, and sat on a bed of mushroom risotto. She didn't enjoy the risotto, but the rest of our table thought it was delicious. My father ordered the veal chop and again said it was OK, but not wonderful. However, after a lot of OK food, we ordered dessert. Wow! Could we have started with this and then just eaten everything on that menu for dinner? It was out of this world wonderful! Truly, it must be the best dessert on the island! We each ordered something and then shared. Our dishes included their homemade key lime pie, flourless chocolate cake, sticky toffee bread, and the pineapple dish. The key lime pie was light and fluffy, with a delicious crust--absolutely worth the order. The chocolate cake was rich, as to be expected, and chocolate lover's dream. The sticky toffee bread was possibly the table favorite. The square piece of toffee bread, almost like a bread pudding, was placed in a round bowl and it swam in a brown sugar and butter sauce that was so good that it had to be sinful. There was a part of all of us that thought we might just be able to spoon drink the sauce! The pineapple dish was a pineapple slice that had been caramelized and sat in a carmel type sauce with a scoop of coconut gelato on top. It was fresh, light, but definitely sweet! We're in Boca Grande a lot, having a beach house here, so we've been on the roller coaster ride of Third St Cafe. We've had great meals here and some not good at all. It seems to have changed ownership/chefs multiple times in the last several years. We came last night with some trepidation, having read some recent poor reviews. Whew! "It's back"! In fact last night was the first night of a new menu under Chef Larry. Our waitress, Jodi, had him come out to talk to us- he candidly addressed the poor reviews, which he had read too- and told us about some of the many changes he was making. The food lived up to his promises. To start I had a wonderful beet salad and my husband had the heirloom tomato salad- then I had the ricotta spinach ravioli in a sage browned butter sauce and my husband had the diver scallop entree- which thankfully is back on the menu. Also back is their sticky toffee pudding, a crowd favorite- now with a gingerbread twist. I hope Chef Larry sticks around because we'll be back! read more

personally i'm not quite sure why this establishment has such great ratings. Went to this hole in the wall when everything was closed after memorial day and I am less than impressed. Frankly, I felt the servers treated my party of 10 quite different from the other patrons present because we are visually much younger looking. My dinner companions and I had to ask for silverware and napkins while everyone else was catered to. Probably took 30 minutes for us to even have somebody take our order. Very weak drinks according to my party. Now to the food. I was indulging in my crab sandwich and then tasted the most foul thing i've ever had. This did NOT even taste like crab. Extremely odd coloring was consistent in all of our sandwiches (5 of us got the same thing). Vomit worthy. Fries were cold. Also bugs were swarming us. Could be best to move the tables away from the greenery. This was a 3 hour ordeal. Seasoning is something this restaurant lacks in my eyes. Certainly will not be returning as well as my guests. Overall, very much overpriced here for a less than mediocre experience. read more

I have always had great food at this quaint little restaurant tucked in the middle of downtown Boca Grande. Yesterday I ordered a breakfast egg sandwich to grab and go and was less than impressed. It was all bread and had sausage links split in half (instead of maybe a patty) laying inside but mostly hanging out over the sides. Excellent choice on island for good food in a charming setting. Ask to be seated in the lovely garden if the weather permits. The service was quick and cheerful and the food, for the most part delicious. The best dish of the evening was the lemon chicken which was juicy with great chicken flavour. The lemon sauce had a delightful Mediterranean bite without overpowering the delicate meat. The toffee dessert and key lime pie were outstanding. read more

Well.....maybe breakfast is better....but for dinner I was definitely very disappointed, they are only open a few months a year and the prices reflect this lack of being open all year. For dinner I chose to have the tuna tartare app and the kale salad with grilled salmon on top, my appetizer was extremely overpriced for the one to two ounces of tuna that came out on the plate at $17, the grilled salmon salad was good but cost $30, yes the most expensive salad I have ever had and it was not the best at all. My sister had the $30 prime steak which was so chewy it was like flank steak, and my other sister had the salad with grilled chicken added and for $25 it was also 'ok' but nothing for the price. So they got two stars for the warm bread, the decent ambience and the fact that they had decent service. I would absolutely NOT recommend going here for dinner but I will try the breakfast and hope for a better experience with my food. I own properties on the island and will not be recommending my guest to experience this extremely over priced dining. read more

Had dinner last night with friends and the meal was good but the service was subpar. We all had a salad and the grilled grouper which was cooked beautifully. We ordered 2 bottles of the red Zin and the first bottle was served before dinner was ordered but the second was late in being served until we were almost finished with the main course. We have had a second home in BG for 10 years and tonight was the first time we have tried 3rd street for dinner (PJ's, Temp, and Pink are our go-to's) First, we had a dinner reservation for 8 pm, we were seated at 8:40. We ordered our food immediately - the kitchen was so backed up that it took us 2 hours to get served, and everyone at our table was served cold food. The risotto could have been the worst meal we have ever paid for. I recommend staying clear of this place. read more

My friend and I both had a great lunch at the cafe yesterday. I had the Roasted veggies in a pita pocket. It was fabulous. The eggplant, mushrooms and other veggies were perfectly roasted. I believe there was hummus in the pocket as well as a few spring greens with a cucumber yogurt dressing. I can't wait to return, there were many items on the lunch menu that I wanted to try. This place is amazing and a MUST if you visit Boca Grande, Fl. We have eaten there 4 times in 10 days and look forward to returning in a day from now. Lunch or dinner, it's the best on the island hands down. The chief is from New York, studied at the CIA, but is not there year round so I hear. Food was not bad, but not good considering the price. Worst aspect was the service. Young servers with little experience or tact. Terribly overpriced for the overall execution. Many items we were served seemed pre-made (Middle Eastern plate especially.) Most of these problems seemed to be based on bad management, very poorly trained servers and little quality control in the kitchen. read more

We split the heirloom tomato salad-good not great. Seared scallops from the appetizer menu- excellent! Spinach, ricotta ravioli main w sage butter sauce was also excellent as was the key lime pie. We came here because the menu looked unique. The restaurant exceeded our expectations. Every dish was fantastic and the portion sizes were huge!! The calamari was incredible - one of the best I have ever had - light and crispy with a lemony flavour, the shrimp ceviche came with king sized prawns. The tuna tacos were phenomenal with just a touch of wasabi. The middle eastern salad had this feta cheese that was to die for. Coffee was great especially the latte and dessert. The biscuit with the coffee was a nice touch. The homemade dessert was a fantastic end to an outstanding dining experience. I highly recommend that you walk the 2 blocks away from the main strip especially if you are a foodie!!!! The service was excellent too!!!! Had dinner 4/7. We were greeted quickly and served a glass of wine. Took 20 minutes to place our order. After we ordered it took 30 minutes to get our salad and after our salad was delivered it took another 30 minutes for the food. Server was very friendly but not efficient and there was no management monitoring the dining room. The food was ok, but not hot coming out of the kitchen. The place was busy and it was very clear they can not handle a busy restaurant. My advice is if you want to try this restaurant go in the off season when business will be slower. I think that is the pace of which 3rd street can produce service and food. I will not hurry back anytime soon as the meal was expensive and there was nothing done to compensate us for the long wait for our food. It would have been very easy to buy us a glass of wine and thank us for our patience. Not so, full amount charged. In areas like Boca Grande where it is very busy for a couple months it appears this restaurant is more worried about their money than customers having great experiences. read more

I was looking for a nice little restaurant to grab some breakfast and relax after exploring the Island. This place looked cute and it was busy. The food was decent but the service was not great. it was hard to nail down the waiter when it was time to order, get more coffee and to pay for my check. And when I did get coffee he brought cream but never brought any sweetener even when asked. There was a manager (maybe even the owner) who did step up and help from time to time. But I will say most of the time she was on match.com. I think if she working the floor more the waiters would be more responsive. read more

They messed up our bill and when I asked about it the guy just picked it up and went off in a huff to change it.
