It took me a very long time to learn to love this place. I don't know why but for the weirdest reasons I was never comfortable hanging out inside. I would just snag my coffee or latte and boogie. That being said, I have finally started hanging on site to sip my go-go juice in the mornings. What I have discovered is a multitude of cool folks pass through there from all around. Mainly educators from the Transylvania campus and surrounding businesses. Even some locals who live nearby come through no matter what time of the morning. What does that mean? Well it means you're never going to have the same coffee experience twice. So resist doing what I used to do, drink your coffee in their oddly decorated facility and bounce around the menu a bit. read more

Best coffee shop around, period. Plus they have a cool gift shop. Let's start at the beginning, with the outside entrance. From the outside, it's very colorful, with ten tons of artwork, quotes, and quasi-graffiti, quasi-murals, trees, and picnic benches to sit on. Lots of parking. Inside, always colorful, bright, cheerful. The music is funky, friendly, loud enough to set an atmosphere, not too loud to disrupt conversation. The staff is friendly and helpful, can't complain here. You might run into the owner Pat, she's uber-cool, she's the woman with the cool clothes and tattoos running around making sure people have their food and drinks and making sure her coffee shop is in order, but still taking time to chat for a minute with customers. The culture: all sorts of people hang out here, from lawyers and doctors, to street artists and musicians. Live shows get hosted here from time-to-time. Hang out, say hi to people, read a book, get into a conversation, you'll make new friends you never would have met elsewhere here. This is my single favorite coffee shop in Lexington. If you just want to stop in for a cup of coffee and read and study (for students), or catch a sandwich and some neat, found-nowhere-else gifts (for tourists), or just want a casual spot to meet some friends before venturing onward, this is your spot. Food and coffee is always great. But please have a more consistent procedure for online pickups. I live around the corner and I've been told to either "go ahead and grab" my order or "check with us before you grab". Today I was reprimanded and told to "Make sure you check next time before you grab" when the items I grabbed clearly had my name on them (I spell my name differently than most with the same name). I've had issues with this every time I online order and I can take my business elsewhere. I understand with COVID you don't want people touching other's orders, and I appreciate that, but for those of us who did mobile order - please make the process easier so we don't get scolded for grabbing our own order. read more

Truly love this place. Quirky, bright, eclectic, with a variety of rooms to settle into. They have a great selection of enticing food for all tastes and dietary requirements. They have all kinds of cool merchandise that would make good gifts. Sketchbooks, notepads, cards, buttons and more. Don't forget to come in the backside so that you can check out the wall that has lots of neat events posted. If you're looking for a place to meet a coffee date, work or study this is a good spot. For years, I've known Third Street Stuff to be a specialty goods store, specialty being eccentric and artsy. Liberals flocked here. Little did I know they served coffee and other typical pastries that you see at a coffee shop. I'm pretty sure from the other pictures you can tell how the coffee shop looks (very hippie and eccentric). I'm going to dive right into their offerings. I ordered a limited time specialty called their Level Up. I wish I took a picture of what it included, but it was very delicious. A hot mocha latte drizzled with chocolate on top with some other flavor in the coffee itself. My GF ordered a vegan torte, which was also delicious as well. Not sure if they actually make it there or if a local bakery provides it, but nonetheless it was tasty. There's also a nice selection of classic board games to play if you and your friends plan on hanging out for a while. Will definitely come back when I need good coffee in Lexington. read more

You know hipsters who walk around looking like they are trying to not look like they're trying to look cool? Of course you don't. They don't do that stuff. They're just being themselves and the world loves them for it. Or so they think. Walk into this place and you'll feel the same thing without feeling like they are trying to not make you feel like that. Stuff on the walls, chairs and tables and even a little gift shop. *Gasp* They've sold out and are selling mainstream sodas in a very clean looking cooler. If they were truly cool, everything would have been handmade from someone on Etsy in small batches, not by some fat cats who light their candles with Benjamins. Instead, it should be fat cats who light their incense with Benjamins. After you get over the color sensory explosion and are able to see things outside the visible spectrum of humans, you realize that none of the employees have a uniform. Can this be? Conforming in their non-conformity? But it is like an M Night Shyamalan movie where you find out all expectations have been shattered and left with a bad taste in your mouth and a tingling in your nether regions. And I don't mean the good kind. They all wear hats. And I don't mean like ball caps or even a Mr. Planter's top hat, which would be an obvious choice for a hipster until they all find out that they had the same idea and make a mad rush to the nearest boutique to find a replacement. Like the ironic kinds that aren't ironic anymore because they ALL wear the same kind of beanie. You know those sheep farmers in New Zealand? Yeah. Hipsters support their lifestyle choices. Now, to the real meat and potatoes of this review. I entered with my entourage and we order our food and drinks. Mr. Cash Register is not the best of moods, which is fine. The three of us have worked customer service before and know the trials and tribulations of GETTING PAID and having to deal with homo sapiens. The agony. The horror. He might as well have been wearing a Geordi La Forge visor because no matter how hard we tried, could not make eye contact. When my associate asked for an itemized list of the receipt, the outrage was as thinly veiled as a Sport's Illustrated bikini model's ankles. My cohorts ordered their drinks and food and I ordered a club. Here's some background on their menu. The official name of the item is the 3rd Street Club. Nothing else on the menu, including descriptions, has the word 'club'. If you typed it all up in Microsoft Word and hit CTRL + F (Command + F for you Mac enthusiasts and probable hipsters) and typed in 'club', there is only one highlighted instance of the word. This, unfortunately threw him off. If you are familiar with the Lord of the Ring movies, whenever Frodo puts on the Ring, the Eye of Sauron immediately looks towards him. Replace the Eye of Sauron with LeVar Burton's head and visor and you would have known terror and anger the likes of which you have not seen since the movie, The Ring. Reading Rainbow this was not. On the other hand, my club sandwich was delicious. Even the basic Lay's potato chips that came with it were like it was freshly picked off a potato tree. The sandwich was well crafted like it was on an Arby's commercial and they were piling on the roast beef in an even and visually appetizing way. Everything was nice and centered. All the ingredients were fresh and made me think of days gone by before the accident. Oh, God. The accident... Poor Charlie... While this review may contain a little hyperbole, there is one thing that our group could agree on: We will not be bringing our talents back to 3rd Street again. You gotta turn that frown upside down and at least look in my general direction. Have some courtesy and at least lie to our faces and say that it would be your pleasure to take our money in exchange for goods and/or services like a good 'Murrrcan or member of society that engages in modern business practices and economics. Although it's the closest coffee shop to my neighborhood, I hadn't been here in years. I used to go occasionally, but stopped going because of unfriendly and unprofessional staff. I went back the other day and what an improvement! The staff was nice, the coffee tasted better than I remembered, and I really enjoyed the happy hour half price drinks (5:00pm - 7:00pm maybe??). There's also a lot more space. They took out the shop of trinkets in the front of the building and added more seating. I've only been a few times since, and even though it's right by Transy's campus it was not very crowded. It's seems like a quiet place to go and relax with a good cup of coffee. read more

I've been to Third St Stuff before and like their funky little store. Their baked goods are pretty good, too. However, their hipster baristas could take a lesson in customer service. We went in this morning for a bagel. We waited 5 minutes (even though no one else was in front of us) to be acknowledged while the two baristas there chatted with their friends. They did everything they could to avoid eye contact. Finally, one of them gave us a cool welcome and told us that we'd have to speak to the other one to place an order. We decided to take our business elsewhere rather than wait for these two to get it together. read more

The first time I walked into Third St Stuff the guy behind the counter asked "You're not from around here, are you?" It was clear that I was out of my element in a place that felt simultaneously too cool and not cool enough for me. Since that first visit it's slowly grown on me. True it doesn't have the pretentious hipster vibe typically I look for in coffee shops, but it's colorful hippie dippie vibe is pretty neat. And the coffee and food is pretty darn good too. They're not coffee purists and I like that I can order something unusual and girly without the side-eye from the barista. It's not my all time favorite coffee shop, but for good food and a cup full of sugary goodness it's a great stop. read more

Basically, I squatted here for about 4 hours and used this as a defacto office. Third St Stuff/Coffee has great vibes, a super friendly staff, and amazing coffee/foodstuffs. I got a Cafe Au Lait at first, then an iced coffee and Cajun Turkey Sandwich later. I never thought a turkey sandwich could be so well-executed. I'm a documented immigrant in this country. Worked hard all my life, paid my taxes and never took a dime from the tax payers. I noticed the naive signs in this coffee shop "undocumented, asylum, welcome, here to stay" etc. I would like to ask the people who put these signs to brainwash their clients with a naive liberal indoctrination, how many undocumented asylum seekers do you personally host in your house or apartment, on your expense? How many undocumented immigrants are welcome in your home? Will you personally adopt a few and pay for their meals and needs? Will you personally take them to the hospital and pay their bills to make sure they didn't bring with them viruses and diseases that are well spreading in their home land? Will you personally take the time, on your expense, to educate these undocumented immigrants with the local language (English) and skills (such as Math), since most of them are illiterate in their own language and will not be productive to society and therefore will reduce the average IQ of the nation? People who put such naive signs are so generous with other people's money and safety, but when it comes to their own homes, I still haven't seen a single one who took personal financial responsibility to take care of those they claim they want to help so much. Isn't that hypocrisy? Other than that, the Wi-Fi here is too slow to get anything done, but I enjoyed my coffee and the non-political art on the walls. read more
