It's been a few years since my last review of Crossroads Deli, but my rating remains high. Their matzo ball soup is one of the best versions available in the Twin Cities. Today I tried their Roast Beef on Weck, which is carved roast beef on a type of roll called a Weck (a Kaiser-style roll topped with coarse salt and caraway seeds.). The restaurant was busy, and this is not a trendy place! I'd be surprised if there was anyone in the restaurant who was not of Medicare age (which also describes me; I'm not being ageist, just truthful). This is something that is available for lunch, during the week (not on weekends). Previously, I wanted to order this before. It was at the beginning of the lunch hour, so unfortunately the end pieces were cooked well-done. I asked if they would cut from the center, which is much more rare, but they wouldn't do that. This time, we came later and I could see that the roast beef was gloriously rare, which is what I like. The sandwich was quite enjoyable because it was juicy and flavorful. It comes with a side of cole slaw which is vinegar based (which I liked, but isn't traditional in the Midwest). It's difficult to find good, rare roast been in the Twin Cities, so this was another good find. My wife had the matzo ball soup, which remains high quality. The beef on weck sandwich (with coleslaw) was nearly $20, which is a bit on the expensive side. The service is spotty. It depends upon who is your waitstaff person (I knew it would be slow based on our previous experience with this person). read more

I have been coming to Crossroads Deli for over 25 years. September 2024, the brothers ( Scott and Stu) sold the business to a corporation which owns approximately 5-6 other restaurants. I immediately started to worry. Unfortunately my worries have slowly " come true" ...and with an extremely upset heart, Crossroads has changed. Scott and Stu had dedication and sheer love of cooking and baking with the BEST of ingredients and exquisite rare perfect use of spices. Their flavors in everything they touched were some of the VERY BEST I have experienced nationally and in my home state of NY where my father taught Biochemistry in the Bronx at Einstein Med School (1955-1980) and where my intense passion for Delicatessen cuisine originated. Coming almost daily to Crossroads truly made my day! I adored EVERYTHING they created. Even shipped a large lemon coconut cake to mom's beloved 90 year old boss at Scarsdale Medical Center 8 years ago! Today: Their rye bread with caraway seeds was identical to Grossinger's. Now almost zero flavor. The broasted chicken if served hot fresh out of the cooker is still excellent. Some of the original spices gone. The lemon coconut cake has zero real lemon flavor just deep yellow coloring, Their pastrami and corned beef also lost 1/3 to 1/2 of their original flavor plus the size of the sandwiches 1/3-1/2 the original size. The new main dishes are almost tasteless. Their original recipes for matzo ball soup, etc are still good - - vary 8-10 rating. They no longer use as much/ perhaps any butter in their coffee cake " breads" which used to be a 10. Many cookies and tiny pastries in the same display case are still good. Compared to many other restaurants today they are now just " an ok". Gone are the days when Crossroads Deli was " TRULY SPECTACULAR "...... read more

Kevins Kombo was a delicious sandwich. hefty, juicy, great flavor. Spendy at $27 with tip and chips were just Dutch crunch but sandwich left a great impression and I'd come back. Came right before lunch time on a Thursday, quick enough with friendly server. read more

Oh my goodness! Great Hot Pastrami sandwich that is HUGE-easily two meals! With my second half I'll add sauerkraut and Swiss and grill it again! My server, Toukey, was friendly and on top of keeping me not wanting for anything. Nice place to eat and take home some treats from the deli/bakery. Can't beat the cozy vibes. read more

Came here Sunday. The place wasnt overly busy before noon but it started to pick up. Server very friendly and attentive and the ambiance was nice. Food was very very good. 2 of our party had the fish sandwich and the filet was huge. They liked it a lot. I ordered a fried bologna sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich rocked but the potato salad was bland as bland can be. They have a nice deli and baked breads. We will be back again soon! read more

The perfect place for nostalgia! I'm originally from the North Shore Suburbs of Chicago, where I can find a Deli everywhere - ever since moving here I've been wanting to find the perfect spot and this is it! My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy morning to grab some breakfast, and try their matzoh ball soup. All of it was delicious! The soup was warm and flavorful, the matzoh ball a little dense for my taste but everyone has their preferences. We got a Veggie omelet and the breakfast sammy. We both loved our food and was served a large plate! Only note was that both dishes needed salt, but we added that ourselves. My favorite part of this spot is the deli - since it was right before Passover I was able to get some KforP treats that were delicious. Highly recommend their Passover brownies - like fudge! We also tried a bagel and a B&W Cookie from the counter. The bagel is NY style with a hard skin and a chewy inside. The cookie was my favorite, like the ones I always got as a kid! Disappointing visit! First I arrived around 1:45 pm and waited about 8 minutes for a hostess to show up, then another 10 minutes for waiter to arrive at the table. Way overrated pastrami. There is no way this is imported from out east as the menu states, unless maybe they mean Alabama. Although a decent quantity, this so called pastrami looked more like turkey pastrami, or ham! Very pale white in color, overly fatty, not pleasing to the eye. Not worth the overpriced $18+; fries(which were decent and crispy) an extra $2! One pickle slice came with the sandwich. No side of cole slaw, bread, beets.. nothing! The coffee was mediocre, nothing special. Besides the overpriced sandwich the ultimate insult is the 4% charge/scam for paying with a credit or debit card; the ultimate rip-off! Menu prices have already skyrocketed so why charge us extra? And then, for those not good at math, they sneak in tax on the tip calculation! So, look over your bill carefully. I probably won't be back, especially for "midwestern version" of pastrami! read more

I pretty much just come for the tomato soup! Not much else that catches my eye. The one unique item I like is the cabbage rolls, but I don't like the soup they come in, but delicious if you ask for them to be served without the soup and just with the mashed potatoes. read more

I'm missing pastrami grinders from California so this is my first stop in finding the best possible substitute in the Twin Cities. This is is 6 on a scale from 1-10 compared to what I was hoping for. This has been one of my wife's favorite places that we haven't been to in many years because we live so far away. For the sandwich to get a 10 from me it needs to be served on a hoagie/sub bun with yellow wax peppers on the side. Mustard, shredded lettuce and dill pickles never hurt either. The pastrami itself was most with just the right amount of fat. The next time I'll probably just buy the pastrami at their deli and DIY the sandwich at. home. read more

Carrot cake, as always, was superb but the frosting is way below standard. Carrot cake needs a true cream cheese frosting! The frosting on the cake we had was, white, think and just sweet. Very disappointed-we drove a long way to get the cake and everyone just peeled the frosting off. Crossroads used to be better... way better, but that said, it is still good, though it is tiresome to be pressured to tip even the bakery staff for handing you a black-and-white cookie... I recommend the matzo ball soup and strawberry chicken salad. They used to give free bread, pickles, and beets back in the good old days, now they are added to the table charges. If you enjoy overpaying for a sandwich and then being charged extra fees because you prefer to use a credit/debit card-then You'll love this place! $21 for a sandwich tells me this business is making plenty of money and then they pass the credit card fee on to the consumer (which is annoyingly becoming a new tend) but yet still expect us to tip your servers. Been craving a good deli sandwich for months being a MN transplant. FINALLY I've found it!!! This place has it all. Delicious Dr. Brown soda, cookies, banana bread, all kinds of assorted bakery stuff, really. And the Kevin Kombo is SO GOOD! It's the perfect sandwich as someone who loves a deli but is rather picky on toppings. My friend got the Reuben, which looked fantastic! Prices also aren't astronomical for a deli. I will be coming back here when the craving hits again (will be soon). We only carried out, but the check out man was lovely and helpful. Will be dining in next time to see the vibes. read more

My family has been coming here for 25 years. The Bakery has been a regular weekly stop for me. I understand they recently sold and the new owners planned to keep the same recipes. They are not the same. The ginger cookie - the taste of the ginger is much milder than before. The carrot cake which was my favorite in the entire country, the frosting has changed. It's not cream cheese frosting. It was a very grainy basic sugar frosting. Sad. read more

One word: delicious! We went on a Sunday at 11ish for an early lunch and they weren't very busy (it was freezing though, so nothing was busy!). My companion ordered the corned beef hash and said it was the best he had ever had, it was served with two poached eggs over the top and was not crazy salty (like the canned variety). I had the matzo ball soup- the ball was ok, but the broth, chicken, carrots, onions, and celery were soooo yummy!! While I'm a transplant from the east coast, the Crossroads gives me that cozy, warm feeling like placed in Tidewater where so many old establishments always made me feel good. !! We haven't eaten here in years and decided to give it another try. The ambience is a typical suburban vibe....but the food! Oh wow! The short ribs are tender, served in a large bowl with the most delicious broth (like a sweeter version of a French onion soup) and creamy mashed potatoes. You can get a half or full sized portion. Met some friends here for our first time to Crossroads. The dining hall decor and furniture was definitely dated. The food was pretty good. We split Kevins combo, a pastrami and corned beef sandwich served on rye bread. I enjoyed it along with their "battered fries" which were basically crispy fries. I didn't trust getting a cocktail here so just went with a coke. We got some cookies to go from the bakery. Lemon cookie lacked the lemon. This place is ultimate comfort food!!! Such a yummy variety of homemade soups, salads and sandwiches. You can't go wrong with any selection of soups or salad but our go-tos are the Wild Rice Chicken Mish-Mash, Scott's Famous Matzo Ball Soup, Scott's Famous Strawberry Chicken Salad, and Asian Chicken Salad. Tomato soup was good. Naan was not the right choice for a sandwich as it is too thick and took away from the rest of the chicken Brie sandwich, so I left it. The chicken was very good. This was the first time I've eaten here. For me Crossroads is a mix between a family style restaurant and a deli. It's not a pure deli like Cecil's in St. Paul, nor does it have the menu, deli counter or bakery selections range like Cecils. The food was good, not great, and somewhat overcooked. I had stuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes in a slightly sweet beet and cabbage borscht sauce. (See picture) I imagined the cabbage rolls would have been a bit firmer. Rather this was sorry of a stewy version of an old favorite, not quite like I remember having in my youth. Also, our server must not have been having a good day - not very friendly. Too bad. My friend had the reuben, which was served open face and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. Not exactly how he or I would prefer our reubens.
