I went to my 1st appointment with Shanni after finding her salon here on YELP and left the salon very happy and pleased. Here is why: 1) I respect any woman who books all of her own appointments herself, washes and blowdries your hair herself, and then styles your hair. There was no shampoo assistant in other words. This is a very hardworking lady! 2) Shanni was warm, friendly, and professional without being 'over the top". She's a normal, chill woman earning a living. 3) Shanni has 1 stylists chair in her salon where YOU the client sit, while Shanni styles your hair. You can watch the tv she has on. Having the opportunity to sit one on one with her made me feel very comfortable. When you go to most salons you will see everyone in there getting their hair done. Shanni puts ALL of her FOCUS and ATTENTION on YOU during your time with her. I was AMAZED by this. 4) Shanni took her time braiding my hair for the weave install. This stylist took HOURS on my hair, and not once did she rush or burn me when using the flat iron. 5) Shanni provided me with a complimentary bottle of water upon request. 6) Her tone when speaking to me was very respectful and never dismissive. 7) My hair was done perfectly. My own husband could tell how pleased I was by the look on my face. I have had horrific experiences with other stylists. Shanni was truly a breath of fresh air! 8) Her skill level was top tier! I arrived at the salon about 15 minutes early. Shani wasn't quite ready for me because the appointment before me arrived late which through the schedule off. That's was fine I had no where to be after my appointment. Shani was very attentive to my hair needs. She even spoke to my former stylist in another State to consult on my hair care needs, as I'd just moved into the area. I was immediately sold right then and there. Her salon is very nice with Tiffany blue and crystal accents throughout the establishment. I also appreciate the security of the building as you will need to be buzzed into the salon. Well let me tell you, first I knew I would like this place because when I called to make my appointment Shantah literally asked me 20 questions about my hair and the products i use - this has NEVER happened! She was so focused on my hair and my hair goals, not on selling me on her or her products. I was lucky that she had an appointment that weekend, and after going, I'm screaming at the top of the mountain how great she is. She walked me through how to take better care of my hair and made product recommendations based on what she has seen success with and what would work best for my hair types. I have been coming to Shanni for over two years now and couldn't be happier with the health and versatility of my hair. With her I've done partial and full weaves, straight and curly styles, color and cuts. She even created a custom designed wig that is styled the same as my own hair. Recently I did a Keratin treatment and I've been able to wear my hair straight for longer periods with no flat iron. Sure there have been times I've had to wait a little when she finishes another customer but nothing extreme and nothing you wouldn't experience at any salon. Let me start off by saying that I'm a picky person so when I find something I like I stick with it. I'm an active duty service member with the Army and my hair has to be pull back, up and off my shoulders every single day so its hard to have a nice hair style that makes it through the day let alone the week with putting my hat on and off. I am so use to just getting braids and calling it a day for three months straight and then repeating the cycle. I was nervous because I had never had a sew in before, but Ms. Shantah called me back after I hung up and assured me that I would love it. I didn't have to go to a beauty supply store for anything because she had is all there in her shop. I get there and she has her own shop set up in her basement. It is professional and honestly looks better than some of the shops I've been to. I left there feeling sexy and looking like a woman. My husband loved it. OH my god I don't even know what to say!! I was happy to find Shantah, but soon I wasn't so happy! I called her and asked her if she can do my hair. First she said yes and we set a date. She was suppose to come over my house I called her several times to confirm my appointment never heard from her ,she never showed up. I left her a voice mail asking her if she was coming or not and till this day I haven't heard from her!! I visited this salon for the first time on my birthday to get a full sewn in weave with a closure. I called ahead of my appointment to ask some questions since this would be my first time getting this service done to my hair. Shantah was very professional and answered all my questions during the phonecall. The day of my appointment I used the yelp deal, pay $200 for up to $230 worth of service. Overall, I had a good experience at SO Beautiful. The salon was very well decorated and is in the basement of her home, which made me feel at home while still keeping a professional salon look. Shantah offered me coffee,water, & snacks. I also was able to catch up on Scandal and Some other shows while getting my hair done. Prior to starting my hair she asked questions about my current haircare regimen and also asked if I was tender-headed, which I appreciated bc I am.
