If you're in Freeport. Go here. When I mentioned this place to some locals they all gushed over it. The food was very good (not health food mind you). Onion rings were the best I've ever had. The onion doesn't all come out in a string on the first bite. Magic. And the batter is different and better. The pretzel buns were perfectly warm and buttery. The deep fried corn was a good idea, but it was cold in the middle so I didn't eat it. Everyone enjoyed their meal. There wasn't a good drink/beer selection but I didn't expect one. I was in town with my immediate family for a visitation and funeral. We live about 100 miles away. At the visitation, someone local recommended this place to us. He said they have great ribs. We were hungry, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated and served promptly. The owner was there, and told us that the ribs are fresh meat, and that he guaranteed that they would be the best we'd ever had. I got the pulled pork sandwich, my parents got the ribs, and my sister got a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Everything was DELICIOUS. My parents (who are in their 60's) agreed that the ribs were quite probably the best ribs they have ever had--lots of very tender meat that was falling off the bones, with very tasty sauce (just the right balance of sweet and spicy). Both my and my sister's sandwiches also had very generous servings of tender meat. I asked for extra barbecue sauce with my pulled pork, but I am a sauce fiend. I got onion rings, which were yummy and HUGE, maybe the biggest I've ever had. I was also impressed by the cole slaw, which was nice and creamy. We were too full to get the famous fried Oreos for dessert! I am definitely going to come back the next time I'm in town, but I still might not have room for dessert! It's too bad that the best ribs I've had are 100 miles away from home, and I discovered them during a sad time. But the food here provided us with a welcome bit of happiness. My wife and I were just passing through Freeport and found this restaurant. The mushroom Swiss burger was really tasty, the smoked brisket sandwich was delicious. The pretzel buns were pretty special for both sandwiches. We both had sweet potato fries , which came with a house made dipping sauce that was exceptional. The food is still excellent, but I was very disappointed that they no longer carry a Reisling they introduced me to one my first visit after it opened and I fell in love with it. It is called Wente Reisling. I know this sounds sad, but I don't feel much like going there because of that. The Chicken Salad is still to die for, but sometimes I would just visit for a nice glass of Wente wine out and about downtown. I know it can be purchased and drank at home, but is also a great dinner wine when you like to go out. Perhaps it disappeared with the new management. read more

I came in yesterday. Had salmon tacos! They were so good, until I had to come today to see if it was a fluke. So, I got the ribs. 5 bones, and I could only finish 3! I had to ask the waitress were they beef or pork ribs, because they were soooo big! They're tender and delicious! My waitress saw me struggling and wanted to give me a box to go. I refused!!! Slow take out service at lunch time. When I placed order was told to give them just 15 minutes, but they actually needed 40, had a 30 minute wait after I got there. And, did not seem extremely busy. I've been here a few times, the food is always great and the prices are reasonable. The service, although pleasant, is always slow. On more than one occasion I've had to ask the server for something multiple times, and have waited quite a while to get the check. Are you kidding? Why have I not been here before? So on a recommendation some friends and I went to this restaurant. We WILL be back. It was fabulous. For an appetizer we had the fried green beans and they were delicious. I have had some where they were soggy and tasteless - these were not the case. Crunchy, flavorful and a nice basketful for the money. We watched another table get a gigantic order of nachos - which we were told was the HALF order. I think we'll try those next time. I had the pulled pork on a pretzel bun. Pretzel buns can get stale/chewy fast but this was the right combo of a little chewy and a little soft. The amount of pork was enough to fill me sandwich alone and the sauce was different than I'm used to but good. The fries were crisp and yummy and you got a good amount. One friend got a burger and said it was cooked to perfection and the other got salmon and said it was also great. After we had stuffed ourselves to popping, the waitress came around and said because we'd never been there before we could try the deep fried oreos on the house. I'm not sure where I fit those in but they were worth the slight too-full tummyache. If I had one complaint, I would said that it took an awful long time to get the food. They weren't terribly busy so it seemed like it took longer than necessary to get the food. Tasting the food made the wait worth it but if you were trying to get somewhere afterwards, I could see it being a hassle to be waiting. read more

We went here today for the first time. We arrived at 12:40 and was seated immediately. I was really exited about this place as we are in Freeport often an have tired of our normal stops. I like the old building and they have done a nice job keeping within the character of it. We ordered onion rings and three main courses. The onion rings arrived fairly quickly and were very good. The main courses(sandwiches) arrived at 1:55, a very long wait and were just ok. We ordered a quesadilla, a bubba burger and a Philly. The Philly sandwich had a lot of meat, however it really lacked flavor and was somewhat dry and I ordered it medium rare. The bubba burger was probably the best item we ordered. My daughter equated the quesadilla to the one she had a taco bell a couple of weeks ago. Overall this was disappointing, however I will give them another try as we go to Freeport very often as we love the Lindo movie theater. Fried Oreos? Count me in! Cute little place, wonderful, personal service. Was disappointed in the lack of very many options for vegetarians, i feel they could do better. However they were open to making accommodations and we enjoyed our meal. As others have mentioned, they give free fried Oreos to first time customers which is a nice touch. I'd come back to try some of their burgers which they do sub for Morningstar garden burgers (the worst kind unfortunately). The personalities here won me over though so I'll give it a go! read more

My second time here (both on Valentine's Day) and although the restaurant itself has great ambiance, vintage appeal and is likely the only casual dining restaurant in Freeport that's not a chain, the service was terrible and they just do not know how to cook a steak. Valentine's Day was busy but there were still plenty of open tables. We waited 20 minutes to receive our drinks, and getting refills took just as long. I don't mind waiting a while to get our meal (which we did), but check on your tables so they're not sitting there with no food and nothing to drink (which we did). If they were short staffed, then perhaps this guy who was roaming among the tables (perhaps the owner?) should get trained on how to actually help customers instead of just asking us how we're doing but can't actually do anything (he kept saying that "they don't trust me with that".) After waiting drink-less for a long time, the food came and my husband's steak was well done (who does that?!?!) except for the couple of raw parts. They took part of the steak off our check, which we also had to wait for forever. Of course, Roaming Owner Guy couldn't help us with that either because again, "They don't trust me with that." Next time we'll drive the extra 10 minutes to Pearl City to go to Brew and Chew. read more

I'm starting this with a 4 Star review and may amend it the next time we eat here. I sampled the ribs and they were excellent. Not the best I've ever had, but very, very good. I ended up with the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. It said it was thinly sliced sirloin on a pretzel bun. What I didn't realize is that it is a hamburger bun. That was my first turnoff. When I opened the bun, it was sliced about 3/8" thick, which I think is way too thick for meat on a Philly. The steak was excellent, minus a few spots of gristle/fat. The owner is a very nice man and spoke to us a couple times during our meal. They brought us out the Deep Fried Oreos at the end of the meal and the boys loved them. All in all, great food. I'd recommend tweaking that Philly a bit though. I left disappointed by that, but the rest of the food was excellent and the prices were great! Oh, the music was too loud also. It was playing quite loudly and we felt like we had to shout over it to carry on a conversation. read more

Pretzel burger was well worth the wait. They recently expanded to the next building with a hallway to connect. I really like the look and feel of the place. I've been eating here since it opened at least once a month and never been disappointed. The ribs are some of the best around. If you really want to fill up go for the Monte Cristo which is awesome but definitely not something if your trying to watch what you eat. It's listed as a 6 oz burger, though they do have a full pound burger on the menu that is apparently stuffed with onions, cream cheese, and cooked up for you. Second time back and I wasn't disappointed. Both times had the 1/2 rack rib dinner w/fries and fried corn on the cob. lt's a large portion for being called a 1/2 slab and probably the most reasonably priced rib dinner I've had in the area!
